First time ever seeing a race, have no other experience to compare it to but we went on the free admission night and I had a blast! People were really friendly and they just had a great time. I felt pretty safe and parking wasn't too bad. Everyone had good attitude and good atmosphere. Kids were playing ball in the grass, it was easy to get seats no drama. I enjoyed being able to see if I would like racing maybe I will go back again. read more

The owner of this track is letting it decay. It has become an eye sore and a dump. Current owner refuses to put in any money to make it competitive with other short tracks in the region. He needs to be pressured to sell the track to someone who can afford to keep it up and provide the remodeling it desperately needs. If he refuses to sell it, all of NASCAR should call for a complete boycott of the track. read more

Hickory Motor Speedway is a super duper fun way to spend your Saturday. It is located only an hour from Asheville and is a refreshing experience seeing that it is such a different vibe and energy than that anything you will experience in Asheville. Hickory Motor Speedway calls themselves the birthplace of the NASCAR stars and is a speedway racing track for cars. This is a smaller track but fits thousands of people in the stands. The events here are really raw fun, high energy, and exciting! Most of the races are different types of car racing and a couple times a year they do the Tour of Destruction with bus races, demolition derby, monster trucks, etc. This is a excellent time to come and tailgate beforehand, drink a bunch of cheap beer and get wild. Good old-fashioned family fun redneck style. It has a lot of history and it's exciting. Don't expect a state of the art pristine racetrack. It's old which gives it character. Some of the great racers got their start here. They offer a variety of racing on the weekends. Pricing does vary per event. The Tour of Destruction is by far my personal favorite. Buy tickets in advance for that one. They had car races with another car chained behind them. Car races with boats and campers behind them. Schoolbus racing. Just everyting. Enjoyed the visit and the racing. Since our closest track in Langley we were unsure what we would find at Hickory but were really surprised with the decent parking and overall good attitude of the fans. The racing was good but not super competitive except as expected in the Truck Series. It was a fun night. read more

I have heard about this place for so long and finally went to a race. It's reminds me of the good old days of racing, it's a throwback. Could use some updates but that's also what's makes its great! Not a bad drive from Charlotte and worth the drive for good short track racing. read more
