The birthday party proceeded perfectly well. All Big E staff did their jobs with care and perfection! They were all attentive to the needs of the host and seemed to really want to make this a memorable event for the birthday boy and his friends. There's eight movie screens, a full sized bowling alley, climbing and jumping activities to help keep the kids energy levels manageable. In better weather outside there's also a rather large and impressive miniature golf area. I can't believe that I've missed out on this fun place to take children to.

The museum has street parking in the front and a small lot in the back. Admission to the museum is free but they do take donations. The exhibits seem to rotate here and while I was there they had Moonshine & Motorsports. So I got to learn about NASCAR and moonshine. The museum is laid out well and the exhibits have a lot of artifacts and storyboards to tell the stories. While the rotating exhibits and building were wonderful, I wanted to learn more about Kings Mountain.

Huge granite steps out front, rich woodwork inside, copper light fixtures, a safe, the postmaster's office. Saw a toy and train exhibition today. A large model train set filled the main room rounding the track through a winter scene. Cases with antique toys were around the periphery. There is a gift shop with pottery, paintings, cards and other assorted gifts. Not quite sure what they display in this small museum during the year. Yes, the exhibit was small, but it was fun, free and close to home. Donations can be made if you wish. If the weather permits, check out the old cabin that they relocated to the rear of the property.

Great time at our first Oyster roast at the Windy Hill Orchard & Cidery! Oysters were steamed by…read moreSaltwater Markets and they did a great job of bringing fresh hot oysters out every half hour to all of the tables. Each standing table also had an empty tray to discard shells. Ample supplies were on hand - shuckers, gloves, paper towels, hot sauces, cocktail sauce, and saltines. Beverages were available for purchase - a selection of ciders and wine, soft drinks and bottled water. Many of their regular menu options are not served in the winter, but we find that to be a good reason to go back during peak season. All service was self service - walk up to the bar or walk over to find any oyster shucking supplies you may need. Souvenir glasses were also available. The staff who checked us in on arrival were kind enough to suggest we take those after our feast to avoid having to keep track of a pint glass while focused on our oyster shucking. A couple of fire pit spots were available and there were picnic tables under a covered shelter set up in the event that inclement weather moved in. It is truly a Windy hill - it's always windy when we are here and this event was no different. Live music was on hand - a solo artist with guitar whose name I didn't catch, but he was very talented and did a great job. He played mostly cover music from under the covered shelter area. Parking does involve a walk if you're not one of the very first to arrive. That walk is down a gravel path a little ways up the hill and not a great fit for wheel chairs or those who with mobility challenges. It would not be hard to drop someone off though near the front, then go park down the street and around the corner.
