My first time at the Big E. My reason for being there was to join in the birthday celebration for my middle grandson. All I can say is WOW! So impressive! The birthday party proceeded perfectly well. All Big E staff did their jobs with care and perfection! They were all attentive to the needs of the host and seemed to really want to make this a memorable event for the birthday boy and his friends. There's eight movie screens, a full sized bowling alley, climbing and jumping activities to help keep the kids energy levels manageable. In better weather outside there's also a rather large and impressive miniature golf area. I can't believe that I've missed out on this fun place to take children to. read more

No oil on the bowling lanes. If you are a bowler with good bowling balls and skills, your ball will hook way too much. We asked the staff about the oiling and they said they oil them every two weeks. They should also mention that they have the string pins on their website. read more

Every time my husband and I have gone to 'The Big E' in Gaffney, SC, we have thoroughly enjoyed our time there! My husband used to bowl in a league on Tuesday nights. Everyone was (and is) so friendly and helpful there. These days we go there to watch a movie. It's always a unique experience. When our grandchildren come to visit us from Philadelphia we plan to take them there. It will be a lot of fun for ALL of us!!! read more

While visiting family, my husband and adult children decided to go bowling at The Big E. We all had a great time. The bowling alley was a little small, but they had lanes open when we arrived. They type your name in when you pay, so there is no technology to deal with. The big E also has a nice arcade, movie theater, bumper cars, mini golf and a play land. It could provide a full days fun. We only bowled for an hour. That plus 5 shoe rentals were $50 which I feel was a fair price. It's a great place for a family outing! read more

A fun time with my 2 yr old Grandson. He enjoyed the climbing area (for 5 yr olds and under) and all the arcade games. Make sure your little one wears socks to play in the play area. There is outdoor rope course and putt putt but it was just too hot the day we were there to do either. They have pizza- popcorn and movie concessions available to purchase. With over $200 worth of food the asked us to move lanes not once but twice because they overbooked the lanes. My company hosts a work party here every year and I've always had a blast! As an adult, playing all the nostalgic games is so fun. I like the gigantic Pac Man and Galaga. The bumper cars are small but surprisingly joyous! Classics remind me of my childhood days at Chuck-E-Cheese. The outdoor ropes course is really fun, I loved flying through the air! There's a mini golf course, bowling, and laser tag too. The movie theatre has always been good sound and good video. The staff let's us set up early and is super helpful with food and prep. Uh, why is this place SO LOUD? I understand there are a hundred kids running around but I guess the walls just push the loud screams back at you. If you're hoping to relax while you let your kids run around it's not going to happen. The play area itself is pretty fantastic for kids though. Lots of slides and tunnels for kids to run around and keep busy. I really like that there is only one small area for kids to enter and leave so you don't have to worry much about them. There's a staff member nearby to keep and eye on kids and make sure everyone is wearing their wrist band. The arcade area is pretty big with different types of games. My only issue is that the kids eventually leave the play area and want to play the arcade games. I would rather spend more money on kids running around instead of playing in the arcade, but then again that's just me. They use a card system to load tokens and to also count tickets for rewards instead of paper ones. The food is pretty limited to standard fast food with absolutely no healthy choices. Not a single vegetable or fruit to be found. It's frustrating when you have a child that's a picky eater and there's only pizza and fries to eat. The movie theater is good with comfortable seating and various times for the different movies. It's pretty standard with what most theaters are like. If you're planning on having your child's birthday party here know that you don't get a private room. They have several picnic style tables to sit at and have them reserved for a party. We were visiting the area from Myrtle Beach for my son's birthday. He wanted to spend it with his cousin instead of a large party so we took them to Big E on a rainy afternoon. We knew the bowling and Laser Tag were down so that was expected. My nephew is 50" tall and my son is about 55", almost one inch over the height requirement for the play area. I understand that rules are rules and I wouldn't even complain about the height issue except there is clearly a sign that says exceptions are if you are in a pre-approved group. How does one being in a pre-approved group as opposed to an individual change any height issues? You'd think maybe they'd reconsider less than an inch when they still have people coming in knowing that 2 of their activities are closed. I went here with my friends last night. We checked the website and it said open until 12am, which was perfect, because I needed to be home by 12am. We showed up to play a game of mini golf. The little course was really nice and we highly enjoyed our game and had a great time. At about 11:30 we were trying to hurry because we didn't want to be inconvenient and we wanted to make sure we were done before they closed. We finished and at 11:45 we went to go inside and give them our clubs, but all the doors were locked and there were no employees in sight. No one had given us any instructions on what to do with them and we didn't want to leave them outside, so we had to bang on the doors until a random person let us in. Again, no employees anywhere. The Big E offers many different entertainment activities for the family. My wife and I watched a matinee movie on a Saturday afternoon. You enter the Big E through the arcade--which is crazy loud and raucous with people running around at such a time. That's all good and well, even though it was too much for my anxiety at first for a few moments. The problem for me was at the service counter straight in and to the back. Four employees were standing around behind the counter complaining about customers, and they looked troubled that we wanted to interrupt them for tickets. We got two adult tickets, a soda and a medium popcorn for $19.50. The popcorn was free because of a coupon we got for signing up for the Big E email newsletter. The employees accepted our coupon, but they all looked at it and us like we were crazy. A company should inform its employees of discounts available to paying customers if some marketing wiz is going to dream up the offers to begin with. The movie theater seats were comfortable. The movie was a good experience. The Pepsi and Cheerwine were good! The popcorn was all right. The bathrooms--the whole place in general--was clean. We'll be back when the time calls for it. I prefer it to the mainstream chain theaters in places like Shelby, Gastonia and Charlotte. read more

Quick update: I just went back and my time playing arcade games and grabbing a quick bite at the snack bar here was pretty good, but far from perfect. This place has been expanding and quite a lot since it was open as The Big E. When it was Starmax, the selection of games was much better, but the staff was not very friendly. The arcade has the newest games out, and they run on swiping cards. Recently added were The Walking Dead arcade game and Cruis'n Blast. Being a fan of zombie games since playing House of the Dead, I was absolutely pumped to play The Waking Dead. It just might be one of the most fun arcade shooters I've played in a long time. Cruis'n Blast was not bad, but I'm not a fan of that series -- I think SEGA and Namco make better racing games. It was a bit too easy to win 1st place. The rest of the games are popular, common stuff and plenty of ticket redemption games. The tickets are also loaded to your card. Great for kids. For adults like me? Not so exciting. I have also tried their chicken tender basket from the snack bar. It's not bad for the $7 price range. Finding a seat to sit is pain on the weekends though, as the place is absolutely slam packed! I have not tried the pizza yet, but I will edit this review after doing so. It looked delicious. :) The only two complaints I'd issue was that some games were out of order, and they are pretty expensive to play at $1 to $1.50. I've seen these games cheaper in places like Mr. Gatti's and even Chuck E. Cheese. Other attractions The Big E has offers are the movie theater, laser tag, a rope climbing playground, bowling and miniature golf. It's a good place for parents to take their kids, but for adults like me who are more into classic arcade games, I would steer clear and wait for the Tilt Arcade Bar to open in downtown Greenville. read more

A movie, popcorn and drinks for my family cost me $55 dollars. We order one large popcorn to share between us. I needed a couple empty cups so I could put popcorn in them for my children. It's kinda hard to share one bag of popcorn with 5 people during a movie. I offered to pay for the empty cups and was told no! Really sad that I spent over 50 bucks and can't get 2 empty cups, especially when I offered to pay for them. Movie theaters in Spartanburg will give me extra cups and at no additional charge. The Big E flat out refused. My family and I will hit 85 and see all our movies in Spartanburg from now on. read more

Movie times are always wrong. You can always expect your movie to start about 15 or 20 minutes after the advertised start time! Got here at 130 for an advertised 145 movie but they said it starts at 2. Well, it's 215 and the movie screen is still blank! You definitely don't have to rush or worry about being late! read more

The Big "E" is a large Entertainment complex located in Gaffney. I first heard of their children's summer movie program from other parents. During the summer, Monday through Saturday, they offer a movie at 9:30 AM for only $1. The movies in the program are popular second run kids and family movies. Popcorn and soft drinks at these showings costs $2. There's much more to this place though. Big "E" has a first run movie theatre, a bowling alley, laser tag, bumper cars and a play land. The dollars you spend can add up quickly, so pick and choose what you plan on doing. Their bowling prices seemed high. The play land alone, per child was $4.50. My kids thought this place was awesome because everything was under one roof. Chuck E Cheese on steroids plus movie theater. read more

This place has been totally turned around and remodeled under new management. The staff is well trained and friendly and the addition of the mini golf is great for kids year round. I am glad to see this place thriving in a town where there is not much else to do on a weekend night. read more

The Big E itself is a fun place for kids, teenagers and families to play however the staff (as of July 2016) is TERRIBLE. They were dishonest- not giving us the correct amount of wristbands and game cards that we had paid for, they were lazy - not putting in food orders, and they were completely unhelpful in many instances- for example we needed a broom to retrieve a child's shoe and you would have thought we had asked for the contents of the cash register. The worst offenders of the employees was Melissa. I may try to go here again in the future but I will wait a year and hope the management hires employees that actually do their jobs. read more

Considering carmike cinema in Shelby is 12 bucks per person to see a movie during matinee no thanks look elsewhere. This little gem is awesome in my opinion. 6 dollars for movie and I have 3 kids above the child discount so I was pleased. My 13 year old nephew was visiting from Texas and I wanted to find a fun place where he could go and just have a good time. A friend and her two kids went with us and even though they were all different ages, they had a wonderful time. They mainly stuck with the things for the older kids like bowling and laser tag but they also enjoyed many of the arcade games and the bumper cars. The place is exceptionally clean and the staff is very nice and helpful. This would be a great place to have a younger child's birthday party. The area for the younger children is separated from the bowling and laser tag areas. This was my first visit and I would recommend it to anyone looking to have fun with their kids. read more

If I could give this place zero stars, I would! My husband and I seen the memorial day ad they have on facebook and decided to take our 3 kids to play on the playground. It came with an $8 game card if you paid the $12 combo for playground and arcade. You could also choose bowling or putt putt but with our smallest being 4 yrs we decided on the playground. We drive from Roebuck to Gaffney for them to tell us that our oldest who is 12 is too tall for the huge play area they have and our youngest is too small so she would have to be accompanied by an adult. My husband had on a knee brace and absolutely cant get inside they play area with her. I ask them if my 12 year old can help her and they said no because she isn't her guardian. Mind you.....my oldest is bigger than me and is very capable of helping her out! I told them that is ridiculous, not fair and that we wouldnt have drove this far if we already knew that! No where in the playground ad on facebook did it say that you have to be under 48 inches to play or over a certain height to play! We definitely will NOT be coming back ever! Also, the worker (whose name I didn't catch), was rude about the whole height situation. I told her to ask a manager so she did. This is probably my favorite place on Earth. There are so many things to do. Laser tag, a play place for kids, an arcade area, bumper cars, and bowling! You can buy your own bowling shoes or rent. From the arcade machines, you get tickets which you can turn in for prizes! On the outside you have an obstacle course above you and down below, there is mini golf! 100% safe. They even have a movie theater where you can watch new releases! They have delicious food and you can even host birthday parties there. Great (and only) place to take your family in Gaffney for these types of activities. Bowling, arcades, giant kid's playland that could eat the average McDonald's playland for a afternoon snack. Small version of bumper cars and very nice movie theater. Movie prices are very good. The best in the area. You can order some food too there like chicken fingers and pizza (they used to allow you to bring it right into the movie with you to eat but not sure if they still do) They have cosmic bowling in the evenings and the bowling alley is fairly new and in nice condition. They have laser tag - but I've never been. Outside they have mini golf. I think it was a full 18 holes when we played so you feel like you get your money's worth. (very fun and a couple unexpected twists in the course) There is a large rope/ adult obstacle course with a safari theme. It's a bit too pricey for my taste so I've never done it, it looks fun though. Overall a very fun place to go, a great place to send the kids and dad to stretch their legs and have some fun while you go and browse the outlet mall next door. Good prices, the staff is very nice there and on weekend nights they always have police officers walking around the whole place when it is a bit more crowded. I always appreciated that they do that.
