"Oh Carol, don't let him steal your heart away I'm gonna learn to dance if it takes me all night and day" (Chuck Berry) We had the pleasure of being introduced to Carol Widman's product line while visiting Fargo, and we were very impressed with the outstanding chocolates and candy they produce. No wonder they are in their fourth generation of candy makers. We had a small bag of "Chippers", which simply out is rippled potato chips drenched in a thick blanket of milk chocolate. What a sinfully great combination! We also had a one-pound Assorted Chocolate Gift Box that came packaged in a gold gift box. It was an eclectic mix of milk, dark, and white chocolate creams, jellies, solid chocolates, and nut clusters with a few Jordan Almonds tossed in for good measure. The chocolate was high quality, and we really enjoyed them. read more

Stopped by for a quick pickup to bring home before the holidays, noticed that the product I wanted was only kept behind the counter so I got in line to be helped. Store was quite busy with I would say about 10-12 people, I get to the counter and ask for a box of "Chippers" which I was then told the price of and realized maybe I should get a second box being the price was lower than what I was expecting/allowing to spend. The woman behind the counter then told me if I was wanting a second box I would have to go to the end and get back in line. I initially thought she may have been joking, but was being quite serious, and I again reassured, "get back in line for a second box of chippers that you just pulled out from a box behind the counter?" to which she replied "Yes." I replied with "No I don't want to do all of that I'll just take the one then." Which was no issue at all, slight confusion on my part but I respected the rules that were in place. What I then had an issue with was in reply to my comment about just taking the one box, the employee then said something under her breath and chuckled along with another coworker all while swiping my card for payment. At this point I was embarrassed and didn't want to continue at all with how I felt at the moment. Kind of a "Oh I came in here to get my family in on what I hear is amazing chocolate, just to get laughed at amongst employees behind the counter" moment. Honestly nothing crazy, but leaving the store after that small occurrence made me not want the product altogether, linking it to a bad experience with the employees. Great products and all but the experience left a bad taste in my mouth and a feeling of regret for stopping in altogether. read more

First time here. I heard about Carol Widman candy and the chippers, which are chocolate covered potato chips. I also sampled the white chocolate covered sunflower seed bark. It was nice to get free samples. I thanked the cashier. I also bought 2 chocolate covered bison, because of NDSU. Arrived after the football game and 30 minutes before closing at 5:00. read more

Applied for a job online and was driving by and decided to stop in to see the inside of the store. I walked around for a few minutes then decided to buy some sugar free candy. There was another woman there and the person behind the counter asked her if she wanted a free sample. She never even acknowledged me. I waited for 10 minutes and nobody said a word to me. No way would I work for a company that doesn't have a clue how to treat their customers. I turned around and left. read more

The 1st time I had a Chipper, a chocolate covered potato chip, I was in 5th grade. A classmate brought them for the kids to try. Of course, I thought, "yuck!" But, no, I have had an entanglement with Chippers since that day. Today, on the way through Fargo we had to stop and get a lb of Chippers. On our way out of the store my husband discovered they had chocolate covered olives. The very helpful sales associate asked if he wanted to try one. Does a bear do his business in the woods?! When he left the store the olive went in his mouth and he went back in the store to get more chocolate covered olives! So now we have a Chipper and olive obsession in our family. read more

Wow! Oh before I forget Wow! Chocolate wonderland. Willie would have lost his wonka had he been in Widman's. Really chipper's delicate delicacy scrumptious delight. No Tatar hater here. Makes lays saying a reality cheeks smiling tongue delighted ecstasy. Savor the flavor do not be ashamed of your behavior! Sharing is tough with what ever you opened up. Carmel apples and suckers are the best. Fill a sack get home to your nest. Now if you have it in you anything here is a great gift. And they ship. Directly to the ones you love. The toughest part right from the start Is walking by all they have got. Try it once you will shop here a lot. It is a fargo destination spot. read more

Chippers, huh? More like cow chippers. These assumedly ruffles-branded chips are inundated with far-too-much cheap, oily chocolate, leaving the customer with a mouth full of dollar-store fair, with a hidden chip inside for structure. I couldn't taste the chip at all - who could? If you're going to do this, make your own chip, make your own chocolate, keep it balanced, and viola, something cool. This tasted to me like dollar-store candy, and the interior of the store was definitely something out of Napoleon Dynamite. I think I remember pink carpet? Who made the carpet? The devil? Rip it up, people buy more when the room doesn't look like a place that moonlights as a crystal figurine museum. Put some wood down, or something like wood. Paint the walls. Spruce it up. I drove specifically to Carol Widman's for these chippers, and I regretted it immediately. I'd skip this if I had to do it over. The concept is interesting, but it's not the highest of quality. I guess, though, that if you're the kind of monster that buys deep fried chips triple covered in chocolate, you're not looking to tie the blue ribbon of confectionery around anyone's neck anytime soon. Keep doing it the way you have presumably since 1981 - it works! read more

Nice flavors different candies but my go to the chippers crunchy chips and soft chocolate.Quick and easy nice staff and workers.

I have a soft spot for this candy store. Disclosure - - I used to talk with the proprietors all the time, and fixed their internet issue once, and we swapped Chinese food with them for candy ;D There's all kinds of great tidbits here, and they are crazy busy... chippers (the original potato chip in chocolate) and chippers (the pickle chips in chocolate) are both great, and the dark chocolate versions of marshmallows or peanut clusters are awesome. I've seen the operation - very busy at holidays, especially around Valentine's, you'll have to scrounge fast if you want to order. They'll ship things, too. Gummy bears and drop candies are good here, too. They also have great little tins for candy - or storing things. I have a few from my days. Prices are pretty normal for a candy store (slightly expensive, in other words), but cheaper than when I buy things at Reading Terminal or at Godiva. read more

If I could give ZERO stars I would. Based completely on absolutely poor customer service. It was 10 minutes to closing time the day before Mother's Day. I called to tell them I was just a couple minutes away. We arrived at 5:01pm, running up to the door they closed their blinds and locked the door. With customers still inside making final purchases, we tried calling and they stopped answering their phone. We knocked on the window a few times, and finally at 5:04pm a very rude woman opened the door telling us they were closed and could not let us in. We told her we just called a few minutes ago, but she didn't care. Fortunately there is another candy store just a block away call Sweet Dreams confections. Locally owned with very friendly people. They have "chippers" (chocolate covered potato chips) as well, along with some amazing truffles. Do yourself a favor, and avoid Carol Widman's Candy Store. read more

Excellent Chippers and other delightful confections. Laura H was very insightful and a delight to work with! You can tell she really cares about her customers. I hope everyone gets the pleasure of working with her! They also make delicious unique combinations; like fritos and chocolate together! I would absolutely check them out! read more

I came in here soley for the "CHIPPERS"(chocolate covered potato chips)! I knew I loved them, so wanted to get a bunch before I headed back to Colorado. Little did I know....they come in other flavors---strawberry, peanut butter, white chocolate, butterscotch. Chocolate was still the best. They were $18 for 1/2 lb. Which was pricey but not as much as Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, and it's a local place. read more

I don't live in Fargo, nor have I been to this shop myself, but I was given Chippers from here as a gift and oh my goodness they're amazing! In the chipper, the taste of the chip itself is not very noticeable because there's so much chocolate surrounding it, but the chip adds a little saltiness and adds a little texture too. The chocolate covering the chip is extremely high quality and delicious. I would eat just plain chocolate from here if it all tastes like that! I shared some of the Chippers I got with my family and now we all joke that we need to take a trip to Fargo solely to get more. So delicious! read more

We went to Carol Widman's for a treat for my boys and birthday treats for a family members birthday at exactly 1855 and the open sign was on. I got to the door after shuffling my nine month old daughter and two young boys out of the car and they shut the light off. The door was open so we walked in. I had five staff members standing there glaring at us without a single word. I get that you are anxious and don't want to deal with customers five minutes before close but not even a simple "sorry, we are closed" is absolutely rude. I even said "hello" and they didn't say anything back. Never have I felt so unwelcome and uncomfortable. My seven year old even remarked "it's like they don't know how to speak". We walked out because I was beyond frustrated and felt pushed out. I really hope their manager steps up to the plate and weeds out staff because we really want to love this place. read more

I don't live in Fargo ND but I can tell you this much their CHIPPERS are amazing ! A friend of mine sent me a box .The box was wrapped and boxed beautifully but it was what was inside that made it a perfect gift. I thank my friend and Carol Widman's for this wonderful treat! read more

Came for the chippers on a trip. They let you sample and they were good, but I had ordered a pound of sugar free dark chocolate, but it tasted like mint chocolate like a peppermint patty flavor when I brought it home to my family. Would be ok, but I hate minty chocolate. Either it was next to something minty, was given the wrong chippers, or their sugar free dark chocolate flavor was off. read more
