My fashion knowledge in general is sub-par, to say the least. All I knew for sure was that it was my wedding, and I had to look my absolute peak. Suffice it to say, there are a lot of shop owners who would've seen a rube like me as easy pickings. The Tuxedo Shop of New York is NOT one of those places. Nancy had obviously dealt with a million guys like me before. I gave her a (general) idea of how I wanted to look, and she pretty much went from there. I got measured, and she picked out a 3-piece tux, bowtie, suspenders and shoes. Way less money than I thought a tux rental would be. She was super nice and seemed generally-interested in engaging in conversation and hearing my wife and I's story. A week before the wedding, I came back to pick up the tux. There was a guy in the back (I forgot his name) who had me try everything on. He was kinda quiet; didn't really ask how anything felt. We discovered the sleeves were a little long, so he told us to wait 15 minutes while he made some alterations. It turned into more like 45 minutes. And he didn't even have me try on the altered suit. I kinda just trusted his judgement. Thankfully, everything worked out in the end. Suit fit great, wedding was great, and everything was returned without incident. So all in all, I would definitely return.

Per appointment you can try on 3 dresses. The women will help dress you and show you how to put on the rings and the dresses itself. The dress selection is wide and they offer such beautiful dresses. You have the option to rent or buy the dress. We opted to rent her dress because where were we going to store this afterward?! With the rental, it came with the a bouquet, a tiara and the rings for under the dress. You also have the things for 5 days. Thank you for such a wonderful experience and making my daughter's birthday as memorable as it was. Your dresses made her feel and look like a princess.

A&M Couture in Greenpoint has horrible customer service toward African Americans. I came in looking…read morefor a blue dress for my daughter's Sweet 16. When we first walked in, one of the girls pointed me to the blue dresses and never came back. The next thing I know, she's helping a Spanish family and completely ignored us. Thankfully, another young lady with glasses stepped in and was extremely sweet and helpful. If it wasn't for her, I would've left. I rented the dress that same day and paid $600. The day I came to pick up the dress, the lady behind the counter asked my best friend (who is 36) if she was the one trying on the dress because she "looked too big and old." How disrespectful and unprofessional. Then they gave me a bouquet with missing rhinestones. I didn't make a big deal about it, but I did ask them to note it, and I never once asked for a discount. They were rushing us out of the store and had already zipped the dress before we could fully look at everything. When we asked one of the workers -- the same girl who ignored me the first day -- to unzip the dress so we could compare the tiara and bouquet, she sucked her teeth and said something to her coworker in Spanish. I stayed quiet because I refused to let anyone ruin my daughter's special day. When I returned the dress, they spent forever inspecting the dress, tiara, and bouquet while speaking to each other in Spanish the entire time. Then they claimed there were two holes in the dress and took $40 from my deposit for "alterations" on tulle material that costs almost nothing to fix. I took my remaining $160 and left. I would never recommend this place to African Americans. The environment felt unwelcoming, disrespectful, and discriminatory from beginning to end.

A tip - work on the attitude, you should not be screaming at your customers especially if these are paying. You yelled at a person in front of me and then me. You yelled at me for not knowing where the basket goes and then for a bag you even forgot to charge. I bought over $35 in items and I told her I would need a bag which I was ok paying for it. She forgot to add the bag - I guess because she was talking to her employee. Unfortunately, I had no cash and she said she was not going to charge my credit card as the minimum was $10 and her ripped plastic bag was 50 cents. Not even 5 cents - it was 50. While she put all my 13 items in the bag she kept yelling at me. I'm sure she did not become poor for not charging me for the bag. I like to support small businesses but I will definitely not support this place anymore. One more tip - respect is earned. You never know if someone is having a hard day. Clients are also earned. Don't drive your clients to other stores where they are respected and treated kindly.
