the food is always amazing and fresh every time we come, today we came in for lunch and the woman with the green eyes was so nice to us i think she noticed my girlfriend is pregnant and she waved our meal:) would recommend this place to anyone looking for something tasty that's also priced right! read more

Horrible experience with cashier Crystal.. Came in to find a line at the meat department with no one working it, decided to ask the cashier if it was closed or if there would be a wait, Crystal proceeds to rudely state the worker is on break and that if I was not aware they deserve breaks as well.. I was stunned at her response, I was not expecting her to respond so rudely and defensively, I simply wanted to know if there was a wait time or if the dept had closed already.. I am a service worker as well and I absolutely understand entitlement, I never came to her aggressively she clearly took my question personal.. Her response, tone and attitude were way out of line, I asked for a manager to find no one available, i decide to leave and have my daughter come in instead.. my daughter heard Crystal laughing at the situation with her coworkers, proudly stating she already fought with a customer thanks to the worker that decided to take a break in the middle of a rush, so he should never say she doesn't love him, as well as stating "if that lady calls just tell her to call Thursday and keep giving her the runaround". Completely disappointed in this service.. Crystal needs some serious customer service training and an education. read more

I honestly wouldn't recommend this place. After paying for our food, I went back to ask for salsa and was charged extra. That's when we noticed three dead flies on the takeout containers, which was absolutely disgusting and raised serious concerns about cleanliness. We spent almost $60 on a 32oz pozole, 1lb of cooked carne asada, 1/2lb of chicharrón, and 32oz side of rice. For that price, we expected much better quality, but everything was bland and flavorless, we didn't finish our food because it tasted like it had been sitting for hours. The posole had so many bones, I couldn't take a bite without biting into a small bone. The carne asada was mostly chewy. Nothing came with tortillas, salsa, or cilantro and onion. Everything had to be purchased separately, including $1 for two small salsa cups and $2 for a small side of cilantro and onion. Between the cleanliness concerns, extra charges for basic sides, and disappointing food, it was absolutely not worth almost $60. We won't be returning, and I wouldn't recommend this place. read more

If you want to find a hidden gem for some awesome Mexican food while in Maricopa AZ, you have to check this place out. It is a traditional Mexican bodega and meat market better known as a carniceria. Everyone there is so friendly and they have all of your hard to find Mexican brand goods. The best thing is that they have a full kitchen that serves everything from tacos, burritos, nachos and even menudo on certain days. Fresh hand made tortillas that you can purchase and take home to cook when needed as well. My go to there is the mixta burrito which is a mix of pastor (pork) and carne asada. The burrito is huge and also has beans and rice inside combined with cilantro and onions. Their fresh homemade salsas are to die for! Grab an ice cold refresco from the fridge to wash it down (soda pop for all the gringos). read more

If this meal was just bad, I wouldn't bother writing a review, but it was extraordinarily awful. I don't think we got everything we ordered because it was all mushed around. But that's okay because I wouldn't want us to even think about eating more of it than we did. These people clearly don't know the meaning of the word "crisp." And I don't know how you cook meat to kill it that completely. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll kiss $30 bucks goodbye. Just wrote this in hopes that someone else will read it and be spared that experience. read more

Delicious homemade food. Love the Tortillas here and am trying the tamales. Service was excellent. Always someone who speaks English but many workers only speak Spanish. Small business crowded space with a lot of choices. Great local small business to pick up some delicious food. read more

I have been waiting for them to open. I finally decided to give their carne asada a try. Very difficult to find parking. They have a small fresh produce area next to their refrigerators. There are a lot of typical Hispanic products... hot sauces Amor and Tapatío, soda Jaritos and a good variety of flour tortillas. There is a great selection of salsas to buy. They make the corn tortillas on site. The meat counter had some nice selections of meat and chicken. They make the carne asada preparada once you request it. Sonora offers hot food to go tacos, burritos, quesadillas and sides too. I was fortunate enough, not to get charged the $13.99 a lb everyone has been complaining about. I bought fresh corn tortillas and a barbacoa taco, along with my carne asada preparada. However, I pulled out my food to make dinner and their were hairs in my freshly made corn tortillas.... Disgusting. I threw everything out. I'm gagging just thinking about it. read more

Google Maps failed--it will help to know this in at the back right of a convenience store and so take away only. That being said, my pollo asado tacos with refried beans and rice add on were very flavorful, mildly spicy and would order again if in the area. The woman behind the counter was very sweet and patient with my limited Spanish. They sell what I think are small tubs of their fresh guac in the refrigerated section. Really good and recommended. read more

I love an "ethnic" grocer where I can find products that are not widely available at chain stores in the US and I had a lot of fun browsing the aisles at Carniceria Sonora. I tried lots of items over a few visits with the highlights being the al pastor, the chicharron, and the homemade tortillas, which were what brought me there in the first place. Now, I am not an Arizonan so this is perhaps not the most informed review, but those tortillas were bomb, in my humble opinion. Tender yet toothsome and so so flavorful. The tortillas, al pastor, and grilled onion cooked on the flat top made for a super quick, super satisfying dinner. Service was friendly and helpful. On one occasion we struggled with a language barrier and the woman working the hot case was exceedingly patient as we worked toward understanding one another. On another occasion, the man behind the butcher counter hooked us up with "the juice" for our flap steak. Did I know what he was talking about when he asked if we wanted "the juice" ?Nope. But it turned out to be a punchy marinade that amped up our meal, so we were glad we went for it. There's nothing fancy about Carniceria Sonora but I think they've made excellent use of what was once a gas station convenience store to bring Sonoran flavor to Maricopa. read more

Most everything could be improved. Moved to the area 5 months ago and decided to give them a try for breakfast. My Wife and I had carne asada bowls. The carne asada was honestly like beef jerky but without flavor. Hard to even chew because it was completely dried out. Volume was okay but far from fit for human consumption. We both struggled to eat 1/3 and threw the rest away. Daughter had a couple of bites and threw it up. Beware!! Not good! read more

Wow, where do I start? Food? Butcher? Service? How about all of the above.... I am so happy and excited they are now in Maricopa. I work in Phoenix next to their location on 48th St and Southern and have been going here for years! Now they have one in my backyard in Maricopa. I have been here 3 times since opening day. There was a line out the door and they were still able to move the lines fast and efficient. I brought home their marinated chicken, slapped it on the grill and wow, felt like I was on a beach in Cabo. Defiantly authentic Mexican food and market. Food is good, but the girl who took our order was not nice and was clearly not happy with her job. It took more than 5 minutes to put together a combo order of 3 tacos. By the time I got home to eat my food, it tasted good but was already cold. read more

Visited on the second Saturday they were open and fully expected low stock because I know how Maricopa loves new stores/ restaurants. It's very small with a sampling of most categories you would expect in a grocery store with limited space. The fresh tortillas are excellent as was the rice and beans. They weren't serving other hot food except soup and I didn't get any. I asked about other hot food options and they said they hadn't finalized what their menu will be yet. Really hoping it is similar to their Tempe location. Service was friendly and I have high hopes for what they will do here once the "shiny new toy" rush dies down and they settle in. The other large opportunity other than in stock was pricing. Tons of items with no price at all. read more

Wow! Wow! Wow! Finally a Mexican Meat Market that not only offer fresh cut meats, but also serves hot food! Not just hot food, but authentic Mexican and Salvadoran comfort food! We are always in search of authentic cuisine. We tried the pupusas, carnitas, and posóle so far. The pupusas were the best I had anywhere. We had the pork and refried beans pupusas and it had more meat in it than any place I tried. They were so flavorful by themselves, but of course I added the pickled slaw and salsa. We wanted to try the spinach and cheese Pupusas, but they were all out at the time. I hope they'll serve squash, beans, and cheese pupusas. It's a favorite among Salvadorans. The posóle was some of the best I had if not THE best. It was even better than the Posolería I tried in Phoenix a few months ago, which was my favorite at the time. The red chile pork broth had tons of flavor. The carnitas was moist and flavorful. They sell it by the pound. My wife said the corn tortillas, which are house made were the best she tried and now will be the only tortillas she'll buy. They sell those by the bag and the guy who makes them is constantly feeding the machine with masa. So needless to say, they're fresh! They also serve other hot soups such as Caldo de Res or something similar and people were ordering containers of it like hot cakes. They serve different meats on the line also. I noticed ribs on the hot line today. Yesterday was carne asada. They grill whole marinated chicken also. We'll try that next time because it looked like they were marinated in Mexican spices and the color looked mouthwatering. This is definitely our new favorite place in Maricopa! read more

The service was awful and my tortillas were cold. I will not be visiting a second time.

Went there today to look for pig feet and the kid behind the meat counter was disgusting rude to me!! He didn't even acknowledge me at first because I am Asian than finally I spoke up again to asked for his help. He snapped at me and told me basically what the hell am I doing in a Hispanic grocery store and NO, I don't have what you are looking for! I was petrified and got out of the store as fast as I can. Customer service here is only for Latino, so it seems. I was definitely NOT welcome there. Sadly. read more

Best carne asada tacos in town. Lots of meat! The people working the counter are always friendly.

So, although the food is good the customer service from the females is awful. The men are so much better at dealing with the customers. I don't think the women should be working with the customers at all. My husband and I were going every night and now we just go about every 2 or 3 weeks now, whenever I get a craving. Otherwise, their rudeness is just not worth it. Stuck up, snotty and general unhelpful will lose you customers in the end, this needs to be addressed. read more

I went in today with my younger brother. I ordered pozole for pickup from doordash and when we went in there we just got death stares like we didn't belong there just because were white. I go home excited to eat because I have loved pozole since i was a child. Most of my family is Mexican. Open it up and very greasy and the meat.. all fat. My mother told me I definitely received menudo. Sorry but I didn't ask for cow stomach. If your out of pozole cool call me let me know and I'll get my money back but seriously.. waste of my money. Decided to make my own pozole because of how upset I was. read more
