I initially discovered The Mad Tatter while searching for a piercer to assist with a challenging piece of jewelry, but it seemed like the right place for my first tattoo--an Alice in Wonderland design I'd been wanting of for over a decade. And it was a wonderful decision. Isaac, the owner and artist, brought my vision to life in ways I couldn't have imagined. The consultation was smooth, creative, and collaborative. He listened carefully, offered thoughtful suggestions, and designed a piece that beautifully captured what Alice means to me. I left the consultation feeling confident that this was the place for me. On tattoo day, despite my nerves, the entire staff made me feel at ease. Isaac was patient and encouraging, making the process as comfortable as possible. Having my best friend and brother with me was helpful, but the overall environment was just right. The tattoo took about three hours, including a few small breaks, and my brother even got a couple of piercings while we were there. It was quite the experience! Even after the tattoo was completed, the customer service was excellent. When I noticed a minor issue with the bandage after leaving, the shop promptly had me return and resolved it--no questions asked. Throughout the healing process, they were just a phone call away, always happy to answer any questions I had as a first-timer. Reflecting on my first tattoo, I realize I went a bit bigger than planned, but I have no regrets. The size, placement, and intricate details all came together perfectly for me. The Mad Tatter is now my preferred shop for both tattoos and piercings, and I highly recommend them. I even have a few projects in mind. In fact, I've already sent friends their way, and one is currently working on a major piercing project with the Rabbit McPiercer! Had some previous work done here and wasn't really pleased. The artist tried to do some fine…read morecoloring and cut my skin. Didnt realize it until it started to heal and scab over. When I went back they told me tht was normal. Both of my arms are sleeved as is a portion of my back and this is not normal. They offered to fix it but I passed. Tht person has since left and some of the other tats I've seen look pretty good. All about giving them another chance but you sure hate to hear the artist go OOPS! Always check out their work before you commit to yourself and ask if you can watch them doing some work. Usually up to the current customer but at least ask. It's too late once it's done.

In July of this year we went for a girls day and it was decided that we wanted to find a shop that…read morecould do a couple walk in tattoos. We ended up at Squid Ink LLC in Shawnee. The shop was great and the other artist/owner we talked to and were originally going to be tattooed by was so amazing. While we were waiting another artist there named Blaine Stapp came to the front and was extremely pushy and pressured us to just let him do the tattoo before his next client showed up. He was saying we would be there until midnight waiting etc. He was then pressuring us about what we were wanting and having us change our minds so that it would be something he could do in the hour he had before the next client showed up. I had the gut feeling we should have walked and definitely would have been far better off if I had listened. During the tattoo he had multiple remarks that were honestly extremely rude and uncomfortable for our group as brand new clients who had never met him before. He carried himself is an extremely unprofessional way the whole time. When I asked him how long he had been tattooing he let me now how many years he had legally been tattooing but that it had been longer than that. His topic of conversation also eventually made it to his ex wife and complaining about her and the new boyfriend. I'm sorry but all around as an artist taking a walk in that has the potential to turn into a repeat client he messed up in his conduct alone. He did my friend first and she did say he was the heaviest handed tattoo artist she has had. Her tattoo now also has had fall out issues. In my over five years of being regularly tattooed I have never had a piece heal this poorly. Here we are over a month later and it still had some scabbing until just very recently, is extremely scarred, has lost so much pigment, and things have blurred together badly. The general consensus is it was over worked. He tattooed us with no glide. Multiple times throughout the process you could hear my skin ripping and popping. This was done on my upper arm where I have stretch marks and slightly thinner skin. I think he took no care for the type of skin he was working on and rushed it terribly. His next client showed up before he had finished my piece as well only pushing the rush even more. I reached out and spoke to the owner of the shop and he was extremely kind about this and said that this was all out the ordinary for Blaine. He let me know that all of the artist rent their space from him and they are an individual business he is not directly involved in and that I would need to contact Blaine directly. I did just that. I made it clear I would not accept touch ups from him from the very start, considering how this turned out and the negative experience I don't think it's unjustified for me to not trust him. I asked for a refund and he told me he does not issue refunds and offered to do a touch up even though I had already made it clear that was not something I was interested in. I let him know my disappointment in the situation and did mention that I would be leaving reviews. He has now since blocked me. I have had the piece looked at by multiple artist now and it's bad. I have to give this scaring plenty of time to settle before I even want to start trying to touch it up. It's a patchy, hazy, scared mess of a tattoo.
