Enjoyed shopping at CarMax! My Saleslady Tricia met us at the door. She was pleasant, knowledgeable and very helpful. The car I was looking for was not at that location. I had another vehicle in mind, but before we looked I told her what I wanted it to have. As I mentioned the options she checked them off. When I finished they had one on site. It had everything I wanted, when I began looking at it, I asked Tricia for a comparison as to the my original choice. Like size, power and a few other thing, Tricia answered all of my questions knowledgeably. We took a test drive and she could tell I still had questions on my mind. She suggested going home to think about it and research it a bit more, I was a bit shocked, a car sales person actually telling me to think about in and not to leave without signing, We returned the next day to buy the vehicle. Tricia did one final inspection of the car and found 2 problems I had missed and filed a work order for repairs. I would recommend giving CarMax a chance for your next purchase. read more

These people are scam artists of the highest order and I truly hate this company this dealership specifically for their malfeasance. I had one of the worst experiences imaginable with CarMax. They sold me a Hyundai Sonata Hybrid that ended up having a failing hybrid battery about 6 months after I bought it. The repair cost was at minimum 4k - 6k. Instead of helping resolve the issue or standing behind the vehicle they sold me, I was left completely on my own dealing with a major mechanical failure. Because of the repair costs, fell behind financially, eventually lost the car, and even lost my job because I no longer had reliable transportation. Which of course culminated into me losing my apartment as well. Thankfully in the last year l've managed to turn my life around but am now stuck with a 13k default on my credit report. Which will probably force me to have to take on ridiculous rates if I want a car in the future. CarMax acts like they care about customers until something goes wrong. Then you realize you're just another sale to them. Selling someone a vehicle with a failing hybrid battery and leaving them to deal with the consequences is unacceptable. I would never recommend CarMax to anyone after what happened to me, and hope anyone reading this deviates themselves from creating any kind of sales process with these monsters read more

I bought a 2021 Ford Ranger from CarMax and within 2 days, it had serious issues -- knocking in the steering, a leaking axle seal, broken fan clutch, and signs of transmission slipping. A certified mechanic confirmed everything. When I went to return the truck within the 7-day return window, CarMax told me my trade-in was already gone. But I saw it sitting on their back lot. When I pointed it out, they said I wasn't supposed to be back there -- supposedly for my safety. That's ironic, considering they sold me a clearly unsafe vehicle. They then told me they couldn't return my original car because it had been "marked for auction already." So not only did they give me a low trade-in offer, but they also couldn't even hold the car for 7 days in case something went wrong -- even though their return policy guarantees that window. They gave me the trade-in value back, but I didn't want the money -- I wanted my original car back, and they still had it. The ground manager, Frank, didn't care at all. They were all smiles when it came to selling me the truck, but as soon as I tried to return it due to serious defects, they treated me like I was a nuisance. No support, no ownership -- just excuses and cold indifference. Now I'm stuck with a rental out of pocket, trying to figure out my next move. To top it off, they tried to sell me another vehicle -- like I was just supposed to trust them again after all this. I'll never trust CarMax again. Don't believe their "125-point inspection" and don't expect them to care once they have your signature. You're on your own. read more

In February of 2023, we purchased a 2017 Volvo XC90 from CarMax. At the time, we were happy with our experience and appreciated how straightforward and easy the purchase was compared to a conventional dealership. Our new-to-us Volvo came with paperwork indicating that we were the third owners and that the car had no accidents or damage in its history. Fast forward to October of 2024. We've had a series of strange problems with the Volvo, and finally decided we don't want to deal with it anymore. While looking at other options at another dealership, we asked about the trade in value of our Volvo. They plugged our VIN into CarFax and tell us that our trade in value won't be great...because we are the 4th owners and the car has a record of "moderate to severe damage" in 2017. News to us! Just to confirm that we weren't misremembering, I dug through our original purchase paperwork, and sure enough, we have a document stating 2 previous owners and no damage/accidents. Based on other reviews, I see that this is not the first time that a buyer has received (best case) incorrect or (worst case) deliberately deceptive information about the car they are purchasing from CarMax. We bought a used car this past January. We are happy with the car, but unfortunately, we found out that they have no service information on their used cars! They do not have a Carfax on their cars or service history. We have not idea if or what has been done with our car and no owners manual either. Besides that, the whole purchasing process was very frustrating and took way to long and we were there all day! The sales gal had to re-do our paperwork at least four times! So we will not buy from Carmax again and it is very disappointing to have found this out after the fact. read more

I visited the honda dealer for a trade-in evaluation, they inspected my HR-V, which was in excellent condition, and provided me with a quote that fell significantly below my expectations. Interestingly, Carmax offered me a trade-in value that was 24% higher than what the dealer was offering. As a result, I decided to trade in my HR-V with Carmax and purchased a 2019 CR-V with relatively low mileage at a reasonable cost.
