I've used CarMax before as they buy vehicles outright and I've found that their offers are comparable to dealers that offer you a trade in. All of my experiences here have been good. With this in mind, my daughter is thinking of selling her vehicle and we set up an appointment with CarMax. We did the online appointment process and it was so easy. When we arrived a person was expecting us. They asked a few questions, took the keys to have the vehicle looked at, offered us water bottles and offered to show us some vehicles on the lot. We decided to walk the lot by ourselves and then hung out in the waiting area. They have a nice setup with a monitor by the waiting area to show whose vehicle is currently being looked at and what order your vehicle is in. Looking over the vehicle took about 20 mins then they provided an offer. It was lower than my daughter was expecting so she declined. They did let us know the offer is good for 7 days. Overall the experience was easy and seamless. Every employee we came into contact with was friendly and helpful. In my past experiences when I did sell them a car, that process is easy too. You bring your title and all of your key sets. They take your vehicle, cut you a check and it's done. It is really that easy - no gimmicks! read more

I'm satisfied with the car and the price, but that's about it. The customer service was horrendous. They requested paperwork to get the title and registration processed. I talked to a lady on the phone about how to give it to them, and I gave it to them that way. But they didn't process it. Then, I went down there to fix the issue and get new temp tags since they never sent for mine. I asked the lady that helped me 2 or 3 times if there was anything else she needed to get my plates processed. She said that she had everything. The next day I get a call that they had already sent the request out as registration only and that the paperwork was in the store, indicating that I needed to come pick it up after being in the store less than 24 hours before. I go there the following week to get the registration and vehicle safety inspection paperwork, and they said they had mailed out the paperwork a couple days ago. Thanks for telling me! Hopefully, I get my reimbursement for the plates they were supposed to give me in the coming days. A bunch of wasted time! I could nitpick further, but I painted the picture. read more

BEWARE !!! I did my shopping online, and the purchase process was straight forward AS LONG AS you don't make any requests. They offer to deliver the vehicle, but this store has a 60 mile deliver area and if you live outside that, too bad. I live 90 miles away, their suggestion was I could take an UBER. Really?? Take an UBER 90 miles? I can get other CARMAX dealerships to ship cars across the country but they won't deliver a care 90 miles?????? So I ended up having to trade-in a car I was going to give to charity. Then, since I was transferring license plates I told the "sales rep" Andrew, I wanted the registration and titling done the next business day (May 1st) and if they could not do it to just give me the paperwork and I would do it myself. Andrew said they normally wait a week but I would get it done as I requested. TWO WEEKS later and still no title or registration. Called the Business Office and they were not planning to do the registration for ANOTHER WEEK! THREE WEEKS after I bought the vehicle. It is such a STUPID thing to lie about. read more

I saw a vehicle I was interested in online. It gave me the option to request a test drive. So I did. Hadn't heard anything but I went to the dealership anyway today around 5:30pm. There was a guy with long hair. Asked me what I was looking for. I described it. He asked if I put it on hold. I said no. He said they didn't have what I was looking for. I said I requested to drive it earlier. He said it's on hold as if I knew that was the same. We went further. He asked why I was looking for a car. I said the flood claimed my car. He asked how far along I was on the insurance process...that was a bit invasive but I told him I was waiting for the check...he said oh so you don't have a check in hand and asked when I was expecting it. That was way too intrusive. There's a better way. You lost me and my sale. I tested the car, loved it but I was taking my business elsewhere. read more

This place is horrible, I bought an 18 Audi A5 from this place in 12/21. There auto check claimed it had only been in a minor accident. I recently went to go trade it and found the car was in 3 accidents before I bought. In which because of the accidents I could not get what the car was worth and had to carry over $12,000 in equity!.. and I refuse!.. they stated it was the auto check fault and not theirs!. No is your FAULT CARMAX IT IS YOUR JOB TO DO YOUR DUDILIGENCE AND ENSURE THERE WERE NO additional ACCIDENTS on this CAR!..NOT THE AUTO CHECK Company!.. you chose them they didn't choose you! You should have checked other platforms to verify this especially since it came from out of town CARMAX. They deceived me!...I am hard working customer and should have to carry over additional $12,000 because they fail to DO THEIR JOB! I now believe they use auto check because it does not show all the recent accidents. I bought this car in 21, it was in accident in 19,20, 21 months before I bought it. I never thought I would be able to say this about buying a car, but this was a seriously fantastic experience. Who knew that was even possible! I went in on a Friday night with an interest in checking out a couple of SUVs. I worked with Brandon, letting him know my price range and some of my must-have's. He worked amazingly well with us. He never seemed annoyed if I asked stupid questions, and made sure I felt comfortable the entire time, unlike my last car buying experience where I felt rushed and taken advantage of. After taking a few test drives, I found a couple I was interested in and decided to have them gi ahead and appraise my car. They explained EVERY step of the process and gave me my quote which was totally reasonable given the issues the discovered. I even had the issues they reported checked out afterwards, and it was all valid. The appraisal is good for 7 days, but mine didn't change even though I came back in after that time frame. So...I found a 2011 ford escape limited online at the independence location and asked that they transfer it. They got it in a couple of days and I instantly knew it was my new car. The business office was amazing at helping us get the title...an out of state co-signer coukd have made things unbearable but they helped every step of the way. My sales person even came in on his day off to close the deal. It was just great. and the business office does all of the licensing at the dmv too, so you don't have to worry about any if that! I cannot express how great this potentially stressful experience ended up being. It was fun, even, and I absolutely love my car. THANKS CARMAX!!! read more

When the car I requested did arrive they couldn't sale it to me because they had shipped it without the title. The prices are slightly high and they won't negotiate. They only wanted to give me 2k for my trade In with other dealerships offered double that. Carmax is amazing! They make the car shopping/buying process enjoyable. I never thought I would say that but it's true! My boyfriend was looking for a small SUV to replace his truck. I suggested we check out Carmax because he didn't know what make/model he was looking for, and this place has pretty much everything there is as far as cars go. If the specific store you're at doesn't have what you want, you can search nationwide and if you find one you like, you can transfer it to your location (for a small fee-depends on how far away it is;the farther away the car is, the more it costs to transfer). We worked with Dave as our salesperson. He was super awesome about everything. He was very low pressure and answered any questions we had. Eventually my boyfriend decided on an Escape. Dave worked with him to find one in his price range. When he found the one he wanted, Dave personally made sure it was transferred the same day so my bf could look at it. My boyfriend also traded in his truck. Jillian was the buyer we worked with, and she was very professional about the whole process. She explained everything from start to finish. The appraisal process took about 20-30 minutes to complete. While you're waiting, there are screens in the appraisal area that list each customer's name who is getting a vehicle appraised, as well as the status of the appraisal so you know the status of the process the whole time. The offer made on the truck was decent (more than another dealer would give for it!) and it is good for a whole week! When it came time to do the paperwork, it was probably the fastest and easiest I've ever seen auto loan/title paperwork completed. The finance guy explained everything clearly and it was done in maybe 10 minutes. That was it! My boyfriend loves his new vehicle and is a very satisfied customer. I highly recommend Carmax to anyone who is looking for a new/preowned vehicle. They take the hassle and stress out of purchasing a vehicle or trading in one. I waited the store for 3 1/2 hours and 15 minutes before we got the car they couldn't find the title. We had to disappoint my son and leave without a car. After waiting for 10 days more they couldn't find the title for the second car we wanted. Then they offered a car of one year older to replace it. CarMax had been a great experience for my daughter and her purchase of a Mercedes and so I decided to give it a try. It was a great experience all the way through from my very helpful and friendly experience with the sales rep Terrence Nathaniel, to the appraisal and final sales papers. Even customer service came through when they were needed with a minor observation I had made after the sale! This whole experience does NOT compare to the typical car dealer approach. The car was found on their web site and shipped from a CarMax in Alabama to St. Louis and while it took about two weeks, that is when they originally promised it by. Best of all is the shopping experience. All cars are priced and feature a list of all options and accessories on the car. The cars are unlocked and you are invited to check them all out without a salesperson tagging along. Of course if you want a salesperson to join you, he or she will be there and they most likely bring you an ice cold bottle of water while you shop! Great Experience!!! read more

This is the 2nd time I have used Carmax for my auto purchase. The staff is very friendly and the no haggle price is just that. The total experience from start to finish was 30 minutes at the most. That was for all of the paperwork plus they do the dmv paperwork for you which saves that hassle. I got my car appraised, and that was an easy and smooth experience. "Ryan" was friendly and helpful during the appraisal, and I got a great offer. Unfortunately, everything after that was nothing short of a shit show. "Dave" was distrusting and completely devalued me as a customer. Why I was treated less fairly than others is beyond me to understand. They did buy my car, however, after 4 trips to their location. They gave me a better offer than other shops, hence why I went through this nightmare to get it done. Though I'm glad they bought my car, I felt the employees were incredibly demeaning in how they treated me. I also witnessed employees standing around in a group chatting and laughing, playing with their lanyards by the entrance, and yet were too "busy" to tend to customers. I am SO relieved it's all done and that I never have to return. If you have the choice, go to the CarMax in south St. Louis instead. Beware of "Dave" at this location. read more

The person i spoke with was very helpful and friendly and listened to what i was looking for to buy. When the family and i went to the location, we walked we were greated by several people. We found the person i spoke with and went from there. We were there for a few hours going over every option to see what would work better for me. If you have an older vehicle to trade, don't waste your time going to Carmax. I was replacing my car and had a great deal worked out at the dealership on the new one. I have purchased many cars over the years and have over 35 years of experience in the automotive industry. I know car dealers are notorious for low ball trade in offers so I wanted to go to Carmax to see what they would give me before closing the deal. I understood up front that the vehicle I was trading is older with higher mileage and was likely to be sent for auction because of that but it was still in good shape with almost brand new tires, many new parts and was in good mechanical and cosmetic condition. The actual appraisal process at Carmax went well, took less than a half hour and was very friendly and professional. However, when reviewing the appraisal and the Carmax offer, I was not only disappointed but actually felt my intelligence was being insulted. The offer from the new car dealer was close to 3 times what Carmax wanted to give me. I am glad I wasn't desperate or stupid enough to accept the Carmax offer but wonder how many unfortunate people are and I also wonder how these people are able to sleep at night. Take my advice: If you have an older vehicle to trade, either bite the bullet and trade it to your dealer or try to sell it yourself. DO NOT waste your time with Carmax. read more

I gave them five stars, but there were four things I was disappointed with. 1) The vehicle came with two keys and only one remote ($45.300 out the door 2014 Tahoe). 2)We receive 2 conflicting statements on whether we would be able to purchase a extended warranty at a latter date. 3)The tire pressure indicator indicated that the left rear tire was low. They tested the left rear tire only and said it was fine and reset the sensor. We drove 310 miles back to Chicago only to find out that it was actually the left front tire that had a rim leak and the tire was repaired and the sensors reset to register the correct tires. 4) The owners manual was missing but they told us that we could order one and they would reimburse us for it, but until I receive it I have to try and figure out the controls. The vehicle the Tahoe is replacing is a 1994 Blazer and technology has change some since then. The salesman (Cory) in St. Peters and (Andy) in Chicago were great. The people doing the paper work in St. Peters were also a delight to deal with. read more
