So I flew out with my teenage children to Atlanta to pick us up our Toyota RAV 4 - and we were tired, and grumpy having missed our connection in Denver and had to sleep on the airport floor waiting on the next flight. Like a glass of cold water on a hot day of gardening, we met Lynnette and our day was set to be wonderful. We did quick check out - and I am sure she could tell we were in a mood because she made jokes and had us laughing in under ten minutes of being in her company. She was kind, had paperwork squared away, had the car cleaned and off we went. As a single woman I can't recommend Lynnette enough. I feel like men in the car buying business don't take women seriously and she did! She was wonderful. What made this worse is that once Adrien saw me in person, she couldn't even make eye contact, which spoke volumes. It was clear she knew she had handled the situation wrong, yet there was no accountability, no urgency, and no ownership of the problem--just avoidance. For a company with CarMax's reputation, this level of disorganization, lack of transparency, and poor customer care is unacceptable--especially when it involves people's money. I expected honesty and professionalism, and I received neither. Based on this experience, I do not recommend this dealership to anyone. We did everything ahead of time online and worked with Malcolm when we arrived. There were a couple of hiccups (I didn't have my title on hand for the trade in and was told by someone else that I needed it and couldn't trade in my car, but then Malcolm confirmed with me that I owned the vehicle outright and was able to get me a duplicate title for under $20). The process did take a while (we arrived 15-20 minutes late for a 1:30pm appt but didn't leave until around 6pm. There were a few issues we noticed with the car during the 20 minute test drive but Malcolm was able to put in some work requests before we left so that we could still leave with our new car and come back for free repairs. Overall, the process was way smoother than a regular dealership with haggling and unfair practices. It's only been a day but I would use CarMax again. read more

i've recently purchased a vehicle at this location and on their website they advertise that the vehicle comes with 2 keys. So when everything was signed over I had the associate make a work order for the missing key. 3 days go by and no communication as to when my key will be available to pick up. I come back to the location they said I needed to make an appointment. So I did then another day goes by im at my appointment. they then tell me after 1-1/2 hour that they have to order the parts for the key! Now if they needed to order it they should have done that and notified me prior! Then they tell me I would be notified 24 hours to schedule yet another appointment that won't be available till another week!!! Guess what no communication was made on thei behave to get this resolved. I've just called them and now they simply hang up on my calls. Car Max on Thornton Road i looked on line and found a Kia Sorrento 2017 went on February 23, 2026 test drove it got approved for it. I was on my lunch break for an hour. Was there for two hours put insurance on it left from break went back when I got off to get the truck check engine light on. February 24 I called at 10:30 AM. Got one of the Sales person on the phone. He told me he was gonna get back with me. That didn't happen four hours later I called back. No answer from the two sales people I got a text message from one of them. Just overall slow process with Carmax, Lithia Springs. Seems really disorganized. Found a truck, did all the financial stuff online, had it shipped from Augusta GA, express check out wasn't express at all, the place inside...the business office...full of associates, paper everywhere, and chaos to say the least. More associates than customers in the whole place and still slow, no joke. This was the first time I've used Carmax to buy a lightly used car. I've used Carvana many times and I can say Carvana is much, much better. Maybe not for everyone to get their car from a vending machine, but for me most definitely a better experience overall. Calling Carmax for help is not easy either. My goodness, it's almost comical. Impossible to get someone to really help on the phone and I've been "accidentally" cut off/hung up on multiple times. Call back, next associate doesn't have any information from the prior calls, so be prepared to start all over and over and over. The ONLY reason I didn't throw in the towel on this deal is because it is a really nice 2024 Tacoma... practically new with 391 miles on it and in mint condition. Hard to pass up. Oh, and then there is Malcom. The ONE and ONLY associate at the Lithia Springs GA location that was helpful in getting everything squared away and I haven't even met him in person - I appreciated every ounce of his help; he went above and beyond. Issues that their "130 point" inspection should have caught, but which clearly didn't happen. Bought the extended warranty, and have another cooling system issue that has rendered the car undrivable. Had it towed to Carmax service 5 days ago and can't get ANYONE to answer a phone or return a message to see if they even received the car. 10 vms and nothing. BEWARE: 0 STARS! We began an online transfer and purchase on a vehicle via Carmax. To avoid dealing with sales associates and spending the day in the dealership once the car arrived, we clicked the online "start purchase" button for the express checkout option. For the purchase, we paid the transfer fee, provided all of the application information, chose and accepted the finance options, uploaded documents, and a credit check was ran. The next step was for a sales consultant to contact us. I proceeded to check my Carmax account multiple times a day (for two weeks ) to ensure everything regarding tracking and the financing that we agreed to were still in place. These details were reflected every time within the account up until the time the sales consultant contacted us to complete the transaction. All of the sudden, the purchase and financing info had vanished! The sales consultant prepared another purchase application, we uploaded the documents again, and a SECOND credit check was ran. As a result of this, the financing and interest rates had changed from the original we had agreed to before the car was even shipped. Talk about a BAIT and SWITCH!! I spent a total of four hours on the phone with the sales consultant or on hold trying to contact the store manager to rectify this matter. I even called the corporate office and was re-routed to the store. Once I finally spoke to the manager, he said he would look into it and get back with me as soon as possible. He then had another sales associate reach out a day later who could, all of the sudden, access both purchasing requests with financing info. However, to purchase the vehicle we HAD to agree to the most recent terms. There was no apology or any attempt to provide us with the original financing terms. At this point, my husband and I walked away from the deal (while also losing our shipping costs). We did not even test drive the vehicle or see it in person. Money was not the issue. It was the principle of doing business with a company that uses this type of practice. We have used another online car company for our past three auto purchases and never had to deal with Bait and Switch tactics or sales associates. If I am buying a vehicle for my wife and children, I have a few nonnegotiable criteria, the most important of which is its accident history. Faced with the prospect of replacing our family's totaled vehicle in this very challenging market for used cars in early 2022, we went with CarMax -- knowing we'd pay more but believing we'd have peace of mind regarding the condition of the vehicle. The vehicle we found at the Lithia Springs CarMax, a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica with 50,000 miles, seemed to check out. We liked the model, the color, the features, and the mileage. We especially appreciated the assurance it had not been in an accident. While it cost more than we would have ever spent in a better market (where solid, clean, accident-free vehicles are not so hard to find or expensive), we decided to pay that premium cost because it was our best overall option for the money. After we purchased the minivan, we took it to a mechanic for a vehicle inspection. The mechanic immediately noted that it had clearly been wrecked. A rear panel on the passenger side was not original: Its borders were lined in a bad glue job, and its paint looked different from the rest of the car. We soon found more signs of damage in the same area. I specifically went to CarMax to avoid this very scenario. CarMax divulged no knowledge of damage, and there's no way they didn't know, given the way they inspect their vehicles and get them ready to sell. I am now the owner of a car that I obtained at a premium price because I expected it to be safe and free of accidents -- only to find out that I now have a damaged car that is not worth what I paid for it. This experience reeks of deception and has changed my perspective about CarMax. I am reaching out to CarMax to figure out a solution. Even if they offer to buy the car back, I cannot overemphasize how sick I am of this process. Searching for a car isn't fun, and it consumes all your time. Moreover, this is our family's only car. I paid $1500 to have a car transferred from California to Lithia Springs so that I could complete the purchase. I was told the transfer would take 3 weeks and the car would arrive today. I called every week to get an updated status and was given a delivery date of 11/4/21. Low and behold, I call today, 11/4 and no one wants to come to the phone. Then I get an email saying my $1500 transfer fee has been refunded to me. I call again and no one can come to the phone until I get irate. Then a sales manager gets on the line saying the car was sold and there is nothing they can do about it. Don't ever waste your time at CarMax, especially the Lithia Springs location. I was straight up lied to for 3 weeks while awaiting my vehicle. Now I'm back at square one in my vehicle search. I recommend you stear clear of this place when searching for a vehicle. So this review is strictly reviewing service. I did not buy my car from this location. I bought the extended warranty Max Care Warranty for my 2015 BMW x3. I called to schedule an appointment which was about 3 weeks out since I needed to wait on my car. When I arrived I was greet by Randi, who was my specialist the entirety of car service. My car was being serviced for a failed lock actuator and a check engine light on. About 2 hours after being in the waiting room (bring your blanket and snacks), Randi informed they would be keeping my car and I will be issued a rental under my warranty. Honestly, it was disappointing, but I was okay with it. Randi informed me they needed to order parts. She assured me the parts would come from BMW and the work would be preformed by CarMax. Fast forward about a week later. The parts come in a few days later than expected and the car is still showing a default code despite the work being completed. Randi was completely transparent about what was going on with my car and it was decided the car would be sent to the BMW dealership for further workup. After having my car transferred to BMW, it turns out, the car is throwing fault codes because of a recall. Needless to say Randi called every day for the first week it was with BMW to check on the status and ensure the transfer of the rental car was seamless. It is still with BMW, and has been for about 3 weeks, I have not received my car back yet. I will update the review once returned, to write about the status of the lock actuator - which I think is really the only thing CarMax would be responsible for. I was told by the salesman that he would put in a service order and it would be fixed by Tuesday.... Tuesday came and went and still heard nothing, another week past and I find out they lost the paperwork and their next available was the 17th another two weeks after they made the mistake and they were the one to put a dent in my car... I spoke with the service manager which didn't help at all, nasty condescending attitude! He reached out to town center to see if they had earlier appointments ( now I'm starting to believe he didn't actually do it) calls me back and says the Town Center location has an appointment on the 10th and somebody would reach out .. of course nobody reached out! I'm still without an appointment called several times since Tuesday and STILL haven't heard anything it's almost as if they don't want to fix it.
