We were trying to purchase a car for my sister-in-law and identified one at the Carmax located in Fort Worth. I made an online reservation to view the car. Unfortunately Carmax cancelled the reservation three times. Each time I had to call to have the reservation reinstated. Today, my sister-in-law drive from OKC to Fort Worth to see the car. I drove from Sugar Land Texas. Before Arriving at Carmax, I telephoned to advise I would be paying cash by wire transfer from my bank. After arriving at Carmax at 11:30 am today, my sister-in-law did a test drive and was ready to conclude the purchase. After a one hour wait, we were advised Carmax would not release the car if we paid my wire transfer. At 2:00 pm I arranged for my bank in Houston to issue a cashier's check at their Fort Worth branch. We were advised the local branch would be closing at 3:00 pm today. We returned to Carmax at 2:30 pm and handed them the cashier's check. They spent the next 20 minutes trying validate the check drawn on Merrill Lynch! Finally at 3:51 pm we were allowed to take delivery of the car. Only a 4 hour wait. This was my third purchase from Carmax and unfortunately my last. read more

Lazy employees. I had scheduled an online appointment for a car trade-in appraisal, but when I arrived, the lady refused to come out of her office. Instead, she asked us to take pictures of the car ourselves using the portal and send them for review. Why would I show up to this store to take pictures of my own car? Absolutely horrible experience at this place. I bought a used car in July 2025. Okay used, but nice. It was the best I could do with what I had at the time. And you expect CarMax to be reputable. Well, this car has had constant problems. I've spent nearly $8000 in repairs since then. I took it to the service department a couple of times while under warranty and they did not help much. It seems they *conveniently* didn't catch these thousands of dollars worth of problems while I could still fix it under warranty. Total deceptive practices - how did they not know it had a slew of internal problems when they sold me this hunk of junk - and the service department is a joke. They lie and trick you. We wanted to sell our car and received an offer on it and were told to bring it in. We brought it to the dealership and they "inspected" it and then came back and told us they thought they MAY have heard a noise in the engine and transmission and the offered us half of the original offer. The car has no mechanical issues. They give you an offer to try and low ball you and waste your time. I was getting phone calls from Managers etc. I was there at 1pm and out by 1:30pm driving my new car. After paying $100 to transfer a car here from Houston, Carmax, and talking on the phone through text messages and online for six days to prepare for an express pick up paying cash, I was met with frustration, disrespect, and anger from a Carmax employee, Asad. I showed up to Carmax for my appointment only to be told we don't see you in the system that's fine computers messed up first world problems. Then find me in the system on another from there he is not prepared to answer. Any of my questions has no knowledge of the car besides, that is a hybrid which I already knew. They pull the car around only for us to visibly see that it is not ready. It has no gas in my 20 minute test drive into a couple miles because I don't know how far it can go. . I take it from my short test drive and come back deciding that I am not getting my money with this horrible customer service despite liking the car. I tell the salesman and he asked me why so I told him and I even say this is not your fault because you weren't the salesman I should've had. Bought a Acura at this location. Lori Boggs was the sales person. Intially was greeted with a smile. She said she had a meeting. I felt that I was hurried and only test drove 2 cars as the 2nd one was so that only test drive one. Went she realized I was going to buy a car because I felt rushed and did not want to take much of her time. She all of a sudden was available and had someone else go to the meeting. I was upside down and that was expect no problem. I was not happy with the vehicle and called the next day. She said I was "freaking out" because of the upside down difference which was not the case at all. I knew what I was doing and how much I would be upside down before going this the Carmax. She referred to her time spent and was concerned about her comission. She also stay inside at her desk most of my time spent there. She did next to nothing other then going through the actual sale process. Eight months later I hate the vehicle. She said it was AWD and it is a Front wheel drive. She knew I only wanted an AWD. The transmission consistantly jumps while driving. The worst purchase of all vehicles I have purchased. Should have returned the vehicle and at least had a decent experience buying a vehicle with someone who did not put the pressure of having a meeting soon and was only concerned about there comission. Saul Gutierrez! Thank you. We weren't sure how to thank you for your awesome service and our experience while at CarMax. So we thought we would write you a nice review. We knew which vehicle we had wanted from our research and what was available. When we meet Saul, he was polite, courteous, exception, and tentative. Although there was no straws for the shake we had ordered during our test drive, he did provide us with spoons. Overall the test drive, payment process, finance, and checking out was amazing. Saul made us felt like he was a friend there with us making the purchase. Saul is from the Fort Worth location, ask for Saul Gutierrez. During the test drive we had noticed a light and Saul promptly got the technician team to fix it right away. After we made it home the light came on again. Unfortunately we went to the local CarMax location near us and was not helped as we would have liked. We were told to go see a local tire shop to get it fixed. Even though the vehicle was still in the 30 day warranty for a full refund. We contacted Saul and he promptly got us in contact with Christian Combs a Service Manager at CarMax at the Fort Worth location. Whatever you do, don't not shop at CarMax Arlington. I recently traded in a vehicle in, and accidentally left my designer sunglasses in the old vehicle. The picture is the picture the salesman sent me of my sunglasses, he said they would be at the business office for me. When I arrived to pick up my sunglasses, the business office explained they were not there. After speaking with the general manager, he said they were most likely thrown away or given away. He did not seem to care and did not offer any solution. It's disappointing after doing business with them, they stole my sunglasses. I don't recommend doing business with CarMax any more. HOLD OF ON BUYING FROM CARMAX. Our vehicle is paid off, but 1 extended temporary license & 3 months later, Carmax hasn't transferred the title to us or send permanent license plate. We have contacted local business offices by phone, emails, and central CarMax through FB. The answers we got have been repetitive and shady, basically telling us to go to tax offices ourselves during work hours, original seller needs to sign document/title, and tax offices are picky & changing rules often. They do not want to reveal the "new" tax office regulations or the missing unsigned documents. They did obtain the temporary license 30-d extension for us, but we had to "fight" for it by calling them multiple times in 3-d-period & talked to 7 local business staff. I just called their business office again 30 minutes ago & there was no answer in more than 5 minutes. My email requesting update on the process is still unanswered in more than 1 wk. Without a doubt the easiest and most painless car buying experience that I've ever had in my life, and a night & day experience from the last car that I bought in Fort Worth on 9/17/16 (won't go there, but read THAT review). As a result of the aforementioned experience, I decided once & for all that I was going to go to CarMax, and then Clay Cooley next. On 1/3/17, I decided to give CarMax first dibs in seeing what they could do for me. After walking in with a few Internet searches saved on my phone from CarMax's website, I was greeted by sales consultant Gary Kettering, who was seated at the front desk. He did a brief needs assessment, to which he identified a few vehicles that were within my price range as well as mileage criteria. After going through Gary's selections, we decided on three. Long story short, Gary retrieved all three vehicles in a reasonable amount of time given the massive car lot CarMax inventory. He & I test drove all three vehicles on a route that took us for a mile and a half on I-30 W and back, ultimately decided on a vehicle after becoming convinced that it was the one that I felt most comfortable with, as well as satisfying my criteria. While I chose to finance the vehicle (as well as not purchasing the service package), Gary was able to run my my application through CarMax's system in a matter of two minutes. I was fortunate enough that only CarMax wanted to do my financing in comparison to their other preferred lenders, yet it also helps that I have a very high FICO score (just saying). With financing already set, I had to retrieve the car that I was going to be trading in (I was driving my wife's at the time). After returning to the dealership close to closing hours, Gary got the deal done by allowing CarMax's in-house valuation expert complete a vehicle value estimate in a matter of twenty minutes. While I thought that the estimate was a couple hundred lower than my own Kelly Blue Book internet analysis, I didn't care at that point. I just wanted a used vehicle that wasn't too old, had considerably low mileage, a few buttons and whistles, and was good on fuel economy. The sedan I purchased fit all of those needs. After cleaning out my old, 2003 Pontiac and said farewell & thank you to it, Gary and a petite female from finance sat down at another desk and went over the paperwork. The paperwork portion was a decent amount to sign, unlike that of a real estate contract where you sign pretty much a ream of paper for your house. In signing the last document, Gary walked me out to my new purchase, where it was parked in the enclosed service area driveway with a large, yellow bow on the hood of the car. Talk about an incredibly nice, unexpected finishing touch! It was a very touching moment, and quite professional. Altogether, I greatly appreciated the entire car buying process here. It was easy, painless, and without any stress. The prices are what they are, which I found to be competitive and reasonable when you research other dealers with comparable inventory quality & quantity. And when it came to those "buyer beware" salesman tricks that some dealerships are known for? I just didn't see that displayed here. Gary was patient, relaxed, and one well-informed sales consultant that I appreciated and wished that I had over the last 10-12 cars that I've purchased over the last 25 years. I was fully planning on buy a car tonight. I had ordered it to be shipped from another state. Waited a week to get it. Notified it was in. I couldn't get there for a couple of days. It was not clean. Proceeded with the purchase. They evaluated my trade in. CarMax was selling cars of same make, model, with similar mileage for literally twice the price as my offer. The salesman, Rey, (a veteran) was great to work with but he was stuck with the decisions of his manager, Ken. I understand and appreciate their no haggle policy but they didn't offer a fair price of a trade in and was unwilling to reconsider even when I showed him CarMax own website selling the car for what would be double what their offer was for my car (which they agreed was in good condition). I have bought and sold probably 6 cars from CarMax over the past 10 years. I walked away tonight frustrated and cancelled my purchase. I WOULD GIVE THEM 0 STARS IF THAT WERE POSSIBLE! I purchased my car here last year, and that was the only time I received decent customer service. But that's to be expected when you're about to spend thousands of dollars on a car plus warranty. I spent an extra 35000 on a warranty with Carmax and the service department is beyond a joke and they have the worst customer service you will ever experience. The first time I went to carmax so they could fix my headlight they were unable to fix, but managed to leave a flashlight on my engine and it was there for a month, no telling what could have of the flashlight fell into the actual engine. And when I told Daniel Herra, (I assume he is head of services) all he did was laugh. I also took my jeep in LAST MONTH so they could fix a leak that I was able to detect. They still have my car right now as I type this review. The first 2 weeks they had my car they did absolutely NOTHING to it. Daniel claimed there was only 1 technician that was able to the work on the car and he kept missing work. And if that were the case they should have given me the option to get my car worked on somewhere else. Not to mention they didn't set me up with a loaner. And when I eventually called and talked to Daniel Herra and ask about a loaner he told me I should've had one the day I dropped the car off but he's the only that took my car keys and never mentioned a loaner. Also when we eventually talked about a loaner he told me to send a picture of my license and insurance so he could have a car ready for me and when I went up there he didn't have a car ready nor did he take the initiative to start the loaner process. I still don't have my Jeep, and after talking to serval people at carmax who told me I would have my car by last Friday I get a disappointing call on the same day my car should have been finished from Daniel Herra saying they needed to ship parts off and they couldn't ship it off until Monday for some reason. But why did they wait 4 weeks to send off parts, because they obviously had not been working on my car. Daniel Herra told me I only had 20 hours worth of work on my car and it shouldn't take long. I've bought new and used cars before but this was my first experience shopping at CarMax and these guys really impressed! I started off by looking at the inventory online and doing the pre-qualification for financing after business hours one evening and was given a call by Chris first thing the next morning. He was super friendly and helpful. He took the time to understand what I was looking for, what my financial situation looked like, and he worked very hard within my specs as well as giving me a few back up options on other suitable cars and finance options. He had a few other people he was working with through the day as well, but he was very attentive and excellent at calling back when he said he would or shooting me a text to let me know he hadn't forgotten about me and would call as soon as he could. In the end, he got me EXACTLY what I was looking for. Even better actually, because while we were running through finance approval, the car I was looking at wound up in a pending sale, but I mentioned another comparable car (with way fewer miles) that was at the Austin location. He was able to reserve it for me and as soon as we were done getting the loan approved, we had it shipped to this location. I was very happy with that part of the process as well. Chris told me that the car was guaranteed to be there by Friday (a week from when we had it shipped) but he'd let me know if it arrived sooner. He sent me emails through the whole process of that, like that the car was being prepped, that it was on the truck, and that it was actually in transit. And then I got a call Wednesday morning that it was already here. Again, the rest of the process was very smooth when I went down to pick up the vehicle. He took me for a test drive then we got into the paperwork part. They explained everything very well and I was happy to sign away. My vehicle did lose a hubcap in transit, but Chris put in a work order to get me a new one and I was able to go back down a few days later and was in and out of the shop within 20 minutes, with a brand new set of hubcaps at no cost to me. We followed up a few days later with a couple questions I had (mostly about the CarMax Owners app and some of the input questions there and how to get registered with the manufacturer for recall notices and little things like that) and to make sure I was happy with my purchase. My wife and I drove the truck, then returned to the sales person (Lori) to start the purchase process. Things sort of slowed down at this point and we didn't know why. We learned later from the general manager of this store that the truck didn't meet their (CarMax's) expectations for a used vehicle. They apologized profusely and promised to make the truck right for us. We finalized the purchase, then left it with them. When we picked up the truck several days later, it was in amazing shape and looked fantastic. The whole experience with CarMax was truly amazing. Lori was amazing to deal with. But my experience at this location this last time I did notice a lack of proficiency when it came to the cleanliness and technical service. I found a old nasty can if chewing tobacco under the seat. We have had the absolute worst experience buying here!! I have bought three cars at Car Max but this location has ended that for me. I have shared my experience with all my patients and I will continue to tell everyone that has ears how bad our experience was. I bought a Land Rover Discovery here about 2 months ago When purchasing I conveyed that we could not look at any SUVs that did not have navigation and Apple car play. I was sold my car assured it did even though I asked them to show me how to use it I was assured by the manager that evening that it had it. He showed me the features and the advertised post and it also said it did. I bought my car on a Saturday night and was told I could go to my bank within 3 days and transfer the loan so I could save on interest rates. I reported that it did not have the CarPlay or Naviigation to my salesperson on Sunday and went to switch over my loan on Monday after I spoke to the salesperson and she said they had to put it in cause they had advertised it as such. The car also had a check engine light on Thank goodness we had bought the extended warranty. Daniel the only person up there who has a clue into customer service helped us when we brought in the Land Rover for service and the navigation to be added and the Apple CarPlay. 45 days folks I have had loaners because CarMax sent it to Land Rover and would not pay the 6500 for the system that they advertised was already in the car! They said they would look for something after market but it just now arrived from Australia! I had to wait for extended periods of time when I switched my loan and felt like I was hostage complained to the manager he could have cared less!! We were there assure they were working on but when we went to the service and finance area there were two employees looking at TikToks. I have told multiple employees up there how terrible our experience has been not one soul has care just a half hearted oh. Never would I want anyone to feel this way about my service. I am a nurse and I can't imagine treating anyone how I have been treated here. I have had such a horrid experience that my hubby bought a new truck this week at Vandergriff! We purchased a 2015 Mercedes Benz C300 with only 13,325 miles. **Interest rates here are RIDICULOUS!** My husband got approved with the rates of 12%, 14%, and 16% and this is with his really good credit. Luckily we had already gone to your bank and he got approved with a very, very low interest rate. 1. We originally started working with Michael but when we went in to officially buy the car he was busy so he didn't want us to wait so we worked with Cindy (total sweetheart). 2. After driving away we noticed a couple of things wrong with the vehicle. *chip in windshield *navigation system not working *mileage reset message on dashboard *FOB (keys) are reading low battery on dashboard Order was submitted to fix and that we would get a call on Monday to schedule repairs. Wednesday came around AND NO call so we go visit the service department. The girl helping us out showed no concern to us, her concern was her phone and someone's Facebook she was looking at. We end up scheduling to come back on Thursday at 2:30pm (she wrote appointment on our repair request paper). Long story short, Thursday comes around and I drop off my husband at work early for our appointment and then when I show up she tells me our appointment is on Friday. She says this with a little smirk on her face. I'm ready to blow up at this point. I ask to speak to the manager Christian and tells me that since the navigation system isn't installed that they are going to pay for the navigation system. I tell him thank you, now I need help with these other issues and he tells me that there's no appointment for today that it's tomorrow. I show him the paperwork with the appointment time written by his receptionist or whoever she is. By this time, I've had enough. I tell him that this is very unprofessional, that mine and my husband's time is NOT being respected. We were originally supposed to get a call and we didn't and that I wasn't going to come back tomorrow and how was he going to help me today?! I worked here about 15 years ago and would never buy a car elsewhere. My car was suddenly a total loss, due to the weather in North Texas. I also opted for Max Care, their extended warranty until I could explore the warrant offered by my credit union. Turns out the CU was a better deal, so I cancelled the Max Care, no wino questions asked. Paperwork took about 20 mins and then I got to see MY new carM.
