The purchase process should have been a red flag. Had car transferred from Charlotte and had to call multiple times to check status. After sale, service is non-existent. Faxed in inspection certificate and insurance to process tags. No response. Left multiple messages to no avail. Only way to get response is to blast them on Twitter. Two months later still no tags so had to get extended temp tags and they waited until after expiration to send them so now risk getting ticket. Awful. Do not buy here. read more

I generally don't like to give bad ratings on first experiences but this experience was so awful that I couldn't resist. I purchased a vehicle at the CarMax in Laurel Md on 6/13/19, had to turn around and take it to the service station at the CarMax in Brandywine on 6/20/19 because the brakes started to grind. Now, I understand that with use card it will be some issues, however the issue at hand was the customer service. They didn't want to offer me a loaner due to the inability of my car issue, so I had to threaten give the car back since I was still in the 7 day window period to return. So I got a loaner and 3 days later my car was repaired. It needed back rotors, brakes pads and some minor fixes to the interior. So fast forward to today, July 2...I start to hear issues when I brake. I call CarMax. The gentleman "Marcus" who was the service rep before took my call, I explained the issues, he says well we don't have any appointments until next week, understandable, so I ask if I could get s loaner, he first says I can't get a loaner until they inspect the car next week, so I asked me did he really expect me to drive around with bad brakes with my 6 year old twins...I could hear him say "oh god" under his breath but refuse to address the disrespectful gesture. He then said I'm sure it's safe to drive until your appointment, I then said how could you say it's safe to drive without having a technician to test drive it first. I could tell from his tone that he was irritated, but then he says how soon could I get there to have someone test drive it. So I'm here as I type and the technician test drive it and heard the issue in the front, he ask me did I have time to wait because he was going to inspect it right away. I would like to state this fact, that "Marcus" is a black man, as I am a black woman. The technician was a white man. When I tell you that I'm so disappointed on this day, not that he should've treated me better because I am black, he should've treat me the same way the white guy did. read more

I am so done with this place! I brought my car in because my dashboard and temperature control lights were not coming on at night. So they told me I just need to replace the dimmer switch, nothing else was wrong with my vehicle! I get my car back from Seith (the technician) and my car now has the check engine light on and is having trouble starting! These were not problems I had before my vehicle was in their possession! I called the advisor who worked with me Raveen and she tells me I would have to pay AGAIN so they can figure out a problem THEY caused! Never again! The absolute worst! I'm convinced this is a ploy to get more money out of me by making other things go wrong! 2 days later Now my car won't start AT ALL! And I WILL NOT be bringing it back to Carmax to get fix nor to sell it or buy any more cars from here! read more

Once I handed over $15,000 for the car they were unable to complete the rest of the work I was paying them for. My experience has been terrible. I want nothing to do with this business in the future. The handling of my title transfer & vehicle registration by the Business Office has been completely unprofessional. You'd think that they file registrations in the District of Columbia on a daily basis and this wouldn't present a job they couldn't handle, but that's not the case. In the end, I will have to go to DMV to register my own vehicle after two months of waiting for CarMax to complete it. I tried calling to actually speak to a manager at the CarMax prior to posting this review and was left on hold for 25 minutes without ever speaking to anyone. The way ive been treated by CarMax and Derrick Coleman is an absolute joke. I found a dream car at a different store and got it shipped. Ive been run around and paid shipping but have yet to even see the car i paid for. I came in 6 days after delivery and wasnt even shown the car or anything. The sales rep acted like I couldn't get approved and since I owed so much on my previous car, he suggested that I voluntarily repossessed my car to the bank and pay the difference . I'm like you have to be kidding me . Even the test drive was a bad experience, he was on the phone and cursing . I left after he argued to me that I wouldn't get approved, meanwhile he put me down as having zero income . Purchased a car from Brandywine location and paid with a check from Navy Federal. Afterwards, Navy Federal sent me a car fax report showing the car had had front-end damage. Car Max does NOT use carfax but some other company, but I'm advisingk you to check Carfax too. Some things are on carfax, but not on the company that Car Max uses. I returned the car (you can do that within 30 days or 1500 miles, and it has taken me 15+ days to get the money returned to Navy Federal. In the meantime, I purchased another car and used Carmax financing, thinking I'd be able to get my Navy Federal loan back easily. NO! First, the business office there at the Brandywine location is awful! I'm currently waiting for the manager and/or business manager to return my call. I've given up, but not before taking on a new loan that will cost me more money and a bad feeling about the bad service that I received from two salespersons, two sales managers, several business office workers, the business office manager and assistant manager. Yes, I interacted with each of the above! Advice: Get a Carfax report before signing any paperwork. It really is a bad place to conduct business for something as a major as a car purcvhase. read more

Well I would recommend nobody to the carmax in brandywine well let me start I got my car a Chrysler 200 from carmax at the end of July and had to take it back up to carmax heard a knocking noise at the beginning of August and from there it was in and out the shop 6 time and they couldn't fix it so then I was calling the sevice rep and no one answered the phone I went up there and they told me to take it to the Chrysler deal they couldn't find out what was wrong with it so I did that then nov.2 I had to turn my rental car back in so I call the Chrysler dealer and ask if my car was ready they say ya but it's a 300.00 hold to be paid so I call carmax and I ask to speak to our customer repp and they say she dont work here nomore I'm like what but the Chrysler dealer said he talked to her on October 31 to tell her how much carmax had to pay for my car and she said ok so I call the dealer ship today at 11:00am and he said it wasnt paid so I call back down there and they dont answer the phone nobody call me to let me know that she was gone and nothing about my car I'm just getting my car back at 6:00pm I live in Waldorf and had to travel to Virginia it's very hard to get in touch with carmax sevice they dont not answer the phone there and when they do they say o she in a meeting or at lunch or with another customer and she will call u back but u dont get a call back u have to keep calling them this was the worst experience I ever had I will not get another car from brandywine carmax it stressed me out. read more

I have purchased many cars over the years, some high-end, mainly from dealers, and can say that my recent experience of buying a low-mileage BMW was among the very best I have ever had This was my first buying experience with CarMax (Brandywine MD location). Of course at CarMax the buyer needs to have done their homework on the vehicle of interest and to have an honest idea of what their trade-in is really worth. I was able to reserve the car in advance so that I knew it would be there on Saturday, and confirmed my intention to come in, and called my salesperson as suggested in advance. My used Equinox was appraised nearly $1K over the highest KBB value! It was in good shape, inside and out, and I made it a point to tidy it up a bit, but I was very pleasantly surprised. I mean it's an Chevy Equinox! Derrick was my salesperson who did a great job -- he knows his job, has great interpersonal skills, and doesn't rush the process (although I was in and out in 90 minutes). Many of the other salespeople on the floor were friendly and chatted a bit as I was going through the process. Kai in the Business Office was extremely efficient, professional, and knowledgeable. It couldn't have gone any better, in my opinion. On a related note, several years ago I was interested in getting an estimate of my car's worth, as I was considering buying another vehicle. Another CarMax came in a bit on the low side, but we are talking about a POS PT Cruiser, so I wasn't too surprised. I elected to trade the vehicle in instead -- and they offered me the exact same amount as the CarMax offer. I conclude that CarMax offers are pretty much on the mark, at least in my experience. read more

My initial review would've only contained a single star as I walked into the Carmax, walked through the lot, and exited the premises without being greeted by a single associate. ( There were at least three associates sitting at the entrance.) Against my better judgement, I returned the following day because there were a lot of vehicles in stock that fit my criteria. I bought a car here in November. Was helped immediately by Chris. He was very patient, helpful and honest. He ended up transferring a car from another dealer for me. The only criticism I have had nothing to do with his service. It was that took almost a week to move a car from Frederick to Waldorf, which seems excessive. They kept me informed of what was going on. The financing was super quick. When I needed to come in a day that Chris doesn't normally work, he came in to meet me to finish the purchase. We have purchased several cars from several different locations of Carmax, but this has been by far the best experience ever. We purchased a 2005 Mercedes SLK 55 AMG in March of 2014. Loved the car, but it had some issues which were all resolved in the first 30 days with the exception of a pesky driver side water leak. One year later, the trouble has been narrowed down to a frame issue. Uh oh, you say? Let me just tell you, they traded the car in for our original ticket price, refunded our taxes, gave us a refund of what was left on our Max care policy. They really owned their mistake and went above and beyond to make this right. Thank you to everyone who took care of us. I brought my first car from this place a little over a year ago and my car (which is currently at the mechanic for repairs NOW) has been up for repairs 6 different times! I drive rental cars more than I drive my own! The very first time my check engine light came on it was within days after driving off CarMax's lot!! They even sold me an extended warranty which is complete bs doesn't cover anything. The Sales person Stacy I think she moved to the business department. When I first came in to Carmax they advised that it will be an hour long wait before some could appraise my vehicle and a sales rep came over within a matter of 30 mins, appraised my vehicle in less than 10 mins and provided me with an offer. I did not turn in my vehicle the same day but when I did I went straight to the business center and had all my paperwork ready and turned in my car (tears) and they cut me a check within 15 mins. If I could I would give this place NO STARS! If you're smart you should purchase elsewhere. This place fixes vehicles just enough to get you to drive off the lot with. I purchased a car from them in January and I've been in a loaner car up until now which is March 2nd after only having the car for 2 weeks. Service department claimed to have never heard a sound that I had numerous videos of however the dealership immediately found the problem. The sales manager Brian was very nice until I left the store, he made sure to inform me over the phone that calling their corporate office would not help with my issue. He was certainly right because I now have costly needed maintenance that I will have to pay for in order to feel comfortable with the fact that I wont have to worry about my engine possibly being at risk. With their 30 day policy you can return and I guess they'll just put the car back on the lot for another Sucker to come buy. Please don't think buying from them will give you any sense of feeling secure in your purchase, it's no different at all then buying from a private seller. Let's just say this would be a 1 star if it weren't for the buying portion. I bought a 2013 Chevy Malibu from there in Jan 2016. Nikki, my sales associate was fantastic and very helpful in purchasing my first car. A month later that's when things went south. I was coming home one day when my car began to overheat and I had to pull over to let it cool down. Got home and checked under the hood...there was no coolant in the reservoir! I called Carmax and they said that they weren't able to get it in until the end of the month. Ok, fine. I took off from work to bring the car in and after FIVE hours of waiting, they still hadn't got to my car. Since I had other appts to make that day, I had to leave and pick another day. This time, my dad brings my car up...$250 and a new hose later, everything's all good right? NOPE!! By the end of the week, I had a puddle of coolant in my garage and it was still running hot. Took it to another shop, and they realized that I needed a new water pump..on a 3 year old car...okay, fine whatever...$700 later I figure my car is good to go right?!? NOPE!! Get in my car one afternoon and the A/C is blowing hot air. I take it to a trusted mechanic because I refuse to let Carmax service dept touch my car again. After checking everything, he sees that the AC compressor has gone bad. ANOTHER $600-$700. My car is only 4 years old. I've had it for a year and a half and it has less than 60k miles on it. I feel like I should NOT have these kinds of issues. To top it off, the car has depreciated so much that I'm stuck with a negative equity when I try to get a different car. As easy as the buying process was, I will never buy another car from this Carmax. read more

So I took off another Tuesday to go up and get the 2nd key fob now last week they blamed not having it on the hurricane which was still 2 days away from landfall, Today I go up check in sit thee for 15 minutes and yeap you guessed it was told sorry the key didnt arrive yet and that it had to come from Audi. Despite having plenty of warning from friends' experiences, I decided to bring my car in to the Brandywine location for an appraisal. I was not desperate to sell it, but did want to see a real world figure to base my asking price on. I was greeted nicely, and told it would be about 5-10 minutes once they put me in their system, which he did as we spoke. In the end, I had to wait over 45 minutes to get scheduled. With no end in sight, and with one approaching me the entire time to let me know how much longer it would be; I was seriously contemplating just leaving. Eventually they did appraise it, and the appraisal representative was very polite and thorough. She asked me questions, and answered mine. We went on a road test and all was well...until I sat down to get my "offer". I immediately noticed in my vehicle description on their screen that they were missing "sport package", "premium leather seats", and "14 way power memory seats" in their data. Anyone who knows BMWs will agree that at the very least "sport package" is a critical feature that affects desirability and value. On this particular car it upgrades your seats, suspension, wheels and tires, and brakes. I KNOW 100% that my car is equipped FROM THE FACTORY with all these options, based on BMW's VIN decoder, from the time I purchased my vehicle (dealership data), and from my ownership (I have eyes...). When I pointed out this small flaw to my salesman, he shrugged it off and said that's what their "software" came up with...? So I'm to believe CarMax is more knowledgeable than the manufacturer that built the car? In any case, we proceeded with the offer with my retorts brushed aside, and came to a wonderful figure that was $2500 BELOW ROUGH CONDITION trade in value according to Edmunds, Nada, and KBB. Now my car is nowhere near rough condition. The paint, interior, and powertrain are in A-/B+ condition, and for the 5 year age and mileage are above average; no accident history what so ever, clean CARFAX, and I'm the 3rd owner. If I listed it for sale locally for $2500 above the CarMax figure, it would be gone in 30 minutes or less. What a bargain. An Audi dealer offered me +$3000 over CarMax without even driving the car, and without me buying a car from them. There's a reference point! MORALS OF THE STORY are: *Do NOT lead them to believe that you are trading ONLY, without buying from them (as I suspect they thought I was desperate for cash and decided to play around) *PROOFREAD their description of your options/trim levels, etc so they don't pull the wool over your eyes like they tried with me *RESEARCH your car's value before accepting any offers Personally, I will never do business with them again, and will warn others as much as possible. I purchased a vehicle from this Carmax location on January 27, 2020, the purchase of the vehicle was smooth--the down fall was everything that transpired up until this point. Since February I have been having on going issues with my air, battery and Bluetooth in the vehicle. I've reached out to the store several times regarding these issues and they've had my car several times to rectify the complaints. They've proved every time that they are incapable of handling business properly, mechanically or customer wise. I've had five appointments so far, keep in mind these appointments are just the times I was able to get someone on the phone, I reached out for much more appointments than that and never received call backs. On March 1, I would've had an appointment regarding my bluetooth and change oil indicator that needed to be reset(per a customer service representative at the Laurel, Md location) but it was canceled, on March 22 I had an appointment for my bluetooth, battery and air-- nothing was repaired but the battery. April was a nightmare regarding appointment scheduling due to the pandemic, that whole time I was the one suffering. May I had appointments on May 5, 19 and the 27th each encounter was horrible and I called customer service on each occasion, I have to admit that Elise in the service department is a jewel and she really makes that store shine. The General manager Sharitta is an absolute nightmare-- always making promises that she will not keep. It took me an entire two weeks to even hear from her regarding my issues, she just kept pushing the problems off to Keith the service department manager, NO ONE in there knows anything about customer service. I honestly could go on and on... Marcus, in the service department.. he has no regard for customers, the experience with him was probably the worst.
