Within 4 months I had to replace: Oil Pan Oil Pan Gasket 6 months later I had to take vehicle back to repair shop to be told it needed. Front Brakes Back Brakes Front Rotors Back Rotors Thermostat Radiator New Water Pump A/C Flush Valve Cover Gasket Axle Shaft Seals Motor Mounts 2 weeks later Check engine light came on and was told it needed. Spark Plugs and Wires In only 11 months and only 18,000 miles driven all of this needs to be done to the vehicle. You cannot convince me that they did not sell me a lemon. They have now had my car for a week and I have asked to speak with a manager every day and was told Mark the manager would call me back. Each day I called to speak with him I never receive a call back. Today I called again and was told he is aware of the situation and would call me and still no call back. Yes they have me in a rental. But, for the last 52 days my car has been at someones repair shop for 37 of those days. I am paying a car note for a car I am not even driving. I tried carmax years ago and left them alone because their cars are just bad. I thought I would give them another chance but I see nothing has changed. I wasted money shipping a car to Maryland because the shipping fee is not refundable and I had to walk away from this car. The imperfections that were listed online did not even cover half of the cars imperfections. Multiple spots of damage to the exterior, ripped and torn leather inside the vehicle. Car was dusty inside and had stains. It looked like they bought the car from a guy down the street and ran it through a gas station car wash and slapped a for sale sign on it. The only thing the car had going for itself was low mileage for the year which I have to question if that was accurate because of the condition of the vehicle. I'm really disappointed that my experience wasn't as seamless as others who I know brought their car from Carmax Brandywine. I had issues from the time I came in. What I thought would be an express pick up wasn't the case since none of the paperwork was brought to the business center by my sales associate. The employees at the business desk wasn't even aware that I was picking up my car and proceeded to ask me if I was there for a test drive. The car wasn't cleaned for me nor were the keys brought up. I then had to wait for the paperwork to start, wait for the DC sales tax to be re-confirmed and wait for the car to be washed and brought to the front. All steps that should've been completed for an express pick-up. After finally signing the required paperwork I discovered that the tread on 3 out of 4 tires were peeling off. After notifying the business associate I was working with, I was told she could simply cancel the entire the transaction and refund me the down payment. Confused by her statement she then offered to contact the service manager. Once the service manager comes I was then told that the peeling was simply a cosmetic issue and that the tires had passed state inspection. I then say I don't feel comfortable driving off the lot because of the condition of the tires he assured me that an order would be place a set for a new set of tires. I was told that the order would go in the next day and that would be able to pick up the car that Wednesday, (two days later from today). After finally getting put into a loner car I was able to leave 2 hours after showing up for what I thought would be an express pick up. The following morning I received a voicemail from the service department stating that they received the tire order but could not move forward since there were no service appointments available for the day. Feeling very annoyed and again confused, I called the service department back and stated I was told by the service manager that everything would be taken care of by him and that I can expect to pick my vehicle up on Wednesday. After apologizing he said he would call me back after speaking to the service manager. However, I never received a call back from him. After allowing a day to pass I call the service department to inquire about a status update since I never received a call back. I was told that the tires still haven't come in and that the car should be ready by Friday. Friday comes and goes and I do not receive any follow up communication from Carmax. I again take the initiative to follow up only to find out that the service center is not open on weekends and must call back Monday. Monday will make a week of not having the car that I brought and was supposed to pick up. I am beyond frustrated and disappointed with my car buying experience at Carmax Brandywine. Specifically around the lack of communication with me regarding the status of my vehicle but also internally. If I truly didn't have love the car I brought I would cancel the entire transaction and ask for my down payment back. read more

Although my purchase started off rocky, it ended well. Took my car in for service after noticing an issue within the 90 day return period. Service advisor Deanna was very honest and straightforward about the issue being one that would result in the car being "bought back". It took a couple of weeks and a little frustration but managers Chris and Eric gave a verbal promise to "make me whole" and stood on that. Sales manager Michael and salesman Deandre were very professional and helpful in closing out the buy back and getting me into a beautiful new replacement. I made an appointment, went in, and they told me it could not be sold the same day due to they closed in an hour... they have to do an inspection of the vehicle that takes about an hour and then additional time for paperwork of selling the vehicle to them. On 12/02/2023 my children were driving my GREY 2018 Mercedes Benz. When they were pulled over by the police guns drawn, they were pulled out of the car. The reason for the stop was they ran my license plate, and the car registration states the car is BROWN. Ok well after they DECIDE TO search the car found the registration and insurance THE VIN NUMBERS MATCHED THE REGISTRATION. The explanation given to them is the car could have been stolen and painted. I will deal with the police later. My children weren't harmed physically but mentally they were traumatized. They called me, I got a ride and picked them and my vehicle up. My experience at CarMax in Bradywine was a VERY STRESSFUL EXPERIENCE!!! First off, I opted for the pre-qualification feature and applied online. After I searched and found a vehicle I submitted our application online. My husband applied for the vehicle to be delivered (secured financing at our credit union ahead of time) and scheduled the delivery of the vehicle, or so we thought! While waiting a week for the vehicle to be transferred (waiting for our vehicle to be delivered to store), I spoke to several different people from CarMax all part of my "Car Buying Experience". My "Car Buying Experience" was a complete confusing and utter nightmare! My paperwork was denied SEVERAL times due to a sensitive 3rd party system that couldn't read my drivers license (which I uploaded about 8 times). Next I would apply and submit all documents only to be later informed (SEVERAL DAYS LATER...) that I didn't need to fill them out! Finally I would learn that due to an error with our Credit Union not writing both names on the check, I would NOT be allowed to participate in the purchase or sale of the vehicle with CarMax (wasn't explained this for nearly a week after receiving check from credit union which they had in possession for several days). The funny thing is, if I didn't have to be there (and if someone would have explained that to me), my sons would not've had to come and I would not have had to deal with 90 minutes of children hitting and punching me! If that wasn't bad enough, I later learned that because there was a problem with my license (system couldn't read it as it is old) I wouldn't be eligible for the home delivery option (another let down). I would continue to get frustrated and disappointed! While speaking to management I stated that if an Express Pickup was booked (what was offered in place of home delivery) we would only be there for 30 minutes (45 MAX) as we have 2 special needs children that accompanied us. It was also ensured it would be faster because my husband already signed documents online prior to going! This woman (a manager) ASSURED ME that the process was simple, easy, and QUICK and would take all of 30 minutes! We were there TRIPLE THE TIME! As i expected my son out of frustration started to get violent and banged his knee repeatedly as hard as he could into his skull. My youngest son who is also special needs too began to get violent. ALL OF WHICH I WAS TRYING TO AVOID AS MELT DOWNS ARE DIFFICULT TO COME OUT OF (several grueling hours)!!! After driving off nearly 2 hours later, I noticed there was trash in the vehicle and also the floor in the back seat was not even vacuumed. We continued to find personal belonging (combs, hair accessories, etc.) inside. To be promised and guaranteed this "CAR BUYING EXPERIENCE" was a joke! I spoke to nearly 10 people during this time (not by choice)! I would receive text messages from multiple people asking me for the same thing. I would be requested (from sales) NOT TO CALL and check on my vehicle status ("It will confuse them"...she said.). What about the customer?!? I was sure CONFUSED! I was hopeful they were noting and updating the account so I did not have to explain over and over again where we were in the process. And, how did THEY NOT KNOW where I was in the process? Completely ridiculous! Unfortunately that didn't happen and I received 3 phone calls back to back all while trying to get my kids through their swim lessons. The 3 phone calls back to back were the SAME situation and none of them knew it happened! No notes, no updates among team members, nada! Just chaos!!! CarMax do not PROMISE customers things that cannot be DELIVERED! Do not empathize with my situation and promise me something that was critical for my families wellbeing, and then dismiss and disregard that promise. This was a manager who said this!!! CarMax has a lot of work to do. If we as potential customers are going to have to talk to several people and departments, then employees need to do their job also and note the account when the customer calls or when an employee speaks with the customer. I am CERTAIN there is a policy to this effect but obviously that isn't being followed either! So I say this, CarMax may have some nice vehicles, but be prepared to deal with a process that is anything but USER FRIENDLY! Mentally prepare for it! You'll thank me later! I can't say enough good things about this CarMax, and the sales rep I worked with, Kenny Jackson. I basically knew what car I wanted when I first called, but Kenny made the process pain free. He was incredibly responsive through phone and text, and kept me updated as the car I wanted was shipped down from Boston, brought to Md for inspection, and was eventually available for me to take home! I had a two part process, buying the new car and selling my old car. My old car was titled in my dad's name, and so Kenny and the entire team were super helpful in what I needed to do to sell a car on behalf of my dad, since he is out of state. We had a few hiccups along the way, but people were willing to work with me to make sure everything was able to get done pain free. I enjoyed my experience here with my nephew who was shopping for his first car. Before going to carmax we visited another dealer in Waldorf that said a lot of stuff that didn't sit right with me. Carmax is only good if you have bad credit because the simple fact that they work with so many banks and sometimes those banks don't even require paystub's for you to get a loan on a car but the thing about it is the banks that they work with the provide loans to people with poor credit are predatory in their lending practices because they give very outrageous interest rates like 26% Which is horrible. Also, do not expect to get a bargain on a car if you go to Carmax only go to Carmax if your credit is bad and you really need a car and you don't have a lot of money for down payment because they can get you in a car for a couple of thousand dollars or even $1000, I suggest if your credit is decent if you have a good history and paystub to go and buy brand new car from the dealership that selling the cars from that company and if you purchase a brand new car, then you can get a lower interest rate interest rates are always lower on Brand new cars versus used cars for some reason read more

I purchased a red 4D Sport Utility 2019 QX60 INFINITY, VIN # 5N1DLOMM4KC512749, from Carmax in Brandywine, MD August 19, 2022 that was transported from Carmax in White Marsh, MD. It had a musty smell like wet cats. I asked the salesman, "What's that smell?" The salesman said, "I don't know." Silly me. It was really hot outside so I thought the musty smell was from the car being closed in the heat and just needed to air-out so I drove off Carmax parking lot after paying for my car. August 20, 2022, I took the car to a friend of mine at an auto shop inquiring about a new air filter to eliminate the damp musty smell. The reliable friend looked and smelled the inside of the car then proceeded to lift the hood to check the engine and immediately said, "take the car back!!" He said in his opinion, the car has signs of WATER DAMAGE!! I was stunned! During my time with the car, I observed the following: 1. Overwhelming wet musty foul smell from carpet and vents. 2. Existing foul musty smelling water to the physical touch underneath front passenger seat floor mat (VIN rubber flap). 3. The look of rusty water stain residue leaking from left and right side of the cars front console. 4. Air-conditioning unit in car smelled like wet musty cats when I turned it on. The smell was blowing in my face and I was inhaling this foul smell! I began to feel sick. August 21, 2022, I returned the car to Carmax. I informed them of my dissatisfaction with Carmax and salesman selling me this FOUL damaged car that was supposed to be inspected by their company. I requested a refund. I am giving this place two stars because I have dealt with two different salesman who were good at listening to my needs and putting me In car based on what I told them. I wish I could think of their names now ...I will go back and look them up because they were great. CarMax- I was on the sales floor looking at car a Nissan 2016, got in the car to start it up and...the car is no operational on the sales floor. I eventually brought used car Kia 2016 ...within a week and half check engine light is on ( power train issue). The car is still within warranty so I took it back to CarMax. Worst decision ever! They have the worst service. I am the owner of a Toyota and I take that car to the dealership for all service issues. I'm use to dropping the car off, being updated by the sales associates as my car is being worked on, and they are accommodating if I need to be shuttle to work or am in need of a loaner vehicle. I got none of the above from CarMax. If I wanted to see how my car was doing I had to call. I was shuttle to work by a woman who made it clear that she had other things to do then drop me off. I dropped my car off at 8:30am at 4:53pm they informed me that the car in fact has an issue they are going to give the vehicle back to me to let me drive it while they wait on the part to come. I ultimately think that there should be a purpose for making an appointment. I checked on my car after dropping it off at 8:30am at 11:00 and my car was exactly where I left it. The shuttle driver gets off at 6pm it's currently 5pm and my only other option to get my car is to allow the associate to pick me up in my vehicle and I would be responsible for dropping her back off at work in rush hour traffic and I live in the other direction. I asked to speak to a manager and was put on hold for a few minutes just to be told by the sales associate that a manager was not in the office and asked me to share my concerns with her. I was looking into a car for at least a month. When I finally decided on one, I had to speak to numerous people and start the process over and over again. I had four different versions of what CareMax does and does not do. When you ask about it, they say they will call you back and they do not. Maryland law says they are retain trade-ins for 10 days (I checked with a local dealer). They transferred my old car in two days. With them doing so, one item I forgot to get out that my father, who has passed on left me, unobtainable. When I asked, they would not provide me with its current location and did not offer no advice. I had to wait an additional 20 minutes for my car because they prepped the wrong car. I had to remind my salesman to remove CarMax from the car, which he did himself. Only for them to put CarMax tag brackets on it. Three days later, I called to report an an issue and they told me it will take two days. One day to diagnose the problem and the second day to repair the issue. Two work days lost. So far my car is great. However the quick and easy online process they claim is so quick and easy was not at all quick or easy. I talked to a total of three people two were very nice one gave me a very hard time. His name was Yaneth. Every single document I submitted online he rejected. How the hell do you reject someone's references? He asked me for so much unnecessary information, I.e. bank statements, even though I had already submitted my paystubs. I felt like I was applying for a house loan instead of a car loan. Because of him my credit got ran twice through every single bank. And guess what the same results came back both times. I was so upset with him I wanted to say forget it. Then a nice gentleman named Christian called me. Thank goodness because I was ready to throw in the towel. I is the pre approval online the other day decided to call them today spoke with Ora first and she was SO HELPFUL, she then turned me over to Demetrius that I spoke with the day I did the application online and he was SO PROFESSIONAL, KNOWLEDGEABLE, and HELPFUL OMG!!! We were on the phone and me on my iPad while he gives me the stock number so I can look at the car just to make sure he found me me the features I was looking for. After finding what I wanted he did what he needed to do and came back to the phone to let me know there was no money down required YES!! Because my car is in another state he explained that it will be delivered at this CarMax in 7 days...I am fine with that. Overall DEMETRIUS AND ORA was AWESOME!! I was in the market to buy a new used car. I was looking to trade my car and get a 2019 Infiniti QX60 While I was on the phone with the CarMax customer service he took all my information and I told him I would be trading my car my car as well. He told me that I had 3 offers from 3 banks. I went online to check the status of the car and it was sold. I called another customer service person and they ran my credit again, we secured another car and I had it shipped from NC and I waited 6 days. Once it was in Brandywine I had to wait another 3 days. Once they finally texted me that the car was ready to test drive I logged on to the website and things changed. I called customer service again they ran my credit a 2nd time and again 3 offers from 3 banks. We go to Brandywine to test drive the car. Love it. Go inside to talk numbers they tell me something totally different than what was told to me. TOTALLY WASTE OF TIME. Run don't use them. read more
