On 8/15/2020 at 5pm I received poor service and racial profiling from a young Caucasian man with blonde hair at the Brandywine, MD location. This sales associate repeatedly askEd me if I seriously was planning on buying a car I wanted to test drive. Each time I stated yes, but today I'm only test driving to compare my final options. He eventually gave me a valid reason why I couldn't test drive it, but he seemed like he was grasping for excuses. I have been to multiple other dealerships and each time received respectful service even if it was only planning on test driving that day. It appeared he was acting on an assumption that a black woman couldn't afford a USED 2017 Mercedes Benz. Keep in mind I'm a doctor. So I purchased a car in December thinking I found what I wanted. The process from start to finish has been a nightmare. I called about a certain car only to be told by the sales person that they would check on it and call me back ha never happened. However, I called again this time I spoke with tommmy he started off with the regular car salesmen antics assuring me he could help me. I was told after I schedule to come in and see the car that I had to pay 200.00 transfer fee hours after I was told the car would be sent to MD. Not only did the car not arrive when the salesman told it would but he never keep me informed until I started calling him daily. Once the vehicle arrived I test drove it and it had a few minor things wrong with it. The salesman told me I could take the car home and bring it back for service I decided to leave it. Tommy signed me out a loaner car that was not registered and then asked me to drive back to dealership after I had already gotten home. I was so frustrated I drove my car home as is only to find out it had more problems than I thought. After talking to Ms. Ashley on the phone she told me to come back that she would take care of the situation. Tommy never called me to see if I was satisfied with the car I went up to the store and spoke with Ms. Ashley a sales manager who has been assisting me with the process. I placed a car on hold while out of the area and the sold it WITHOUT telling me. I got email confirmation that the car was held, a contact person, and a time/date to come in and test drive (knew we were going to buy) and they sold it without telling me. I called Rommell (my contact person) on a Thursday to confirm my Saturday appt. This was the earliest that I was able to talk to them given my location. Customer service was horrible, he said the car was sold because they tried to reach out to me unsuccessfully and - he HUNG UP ON ME. I live in Pennsylvania. I was going to drive to MD for the car - thank goodness I called or I would have gone that entire way without knowing the car was gone! Car buyer's beware! Do not purchase Carmax extended warranty and ensure all parts of your preowned vehicle are all in good condition! Upon receiving approval, I was so excited to drive from NYC to Carmax Brandywine Maryland location to purchased my 2013 Infiniti JX35, during March 2019. Kenneth Jackson was the lead sales personnel that assisted me throughout my transaction. Unfortunately, during the day of pickup Mr. Jackson was not working. Therefore, he had his colleague Andre to finalize my purchase. During the moments of inspection and test drive I questioned a minor knocking and the rust on the wheel hub. Andre, assure me that the noise was normal and the rust on the wheel hub were due to inclement weather and not to stress the appearance, all parts were in good condition. Issue number one: September 2019 my vehicle completely shut down after six months of purchase. I was left stranded at WaWa! I contacted Maxcare, to report a claim. They did not provide excellent assistance. My car was taken to a repair facility and I was informed that my vehicle battery needed to be replaced due to corrosion. CarMax sold me a vehicle with a bad battery!! Maxcare refused to pay for my new battery. I contacted CarMax to update them of the situation and I did not win that reimbursement battle. Issue number two: the same minor knocking sound gradually increase badly. October 2020, I took my vehicle to a Carmax approved repair facility. I was informed that my vehicle wheel bearing hubs front and rear were in terrible condition! The mechanic, then explained to me that despite my car mileage my vehicle was sold to me with bad wheel bearing hubs. Due to my lack of knowledge, and the representative's greedy goal of sale, the lives of my children and I have been endangered since the moment I drove my vehicle off of the lot! It was further explained by the mechanic that due to the horrible condition of the wheel bearing hubs, it caused additional damage to the brake pads and rotors. He told me, had I continued to drive my vehicle in that condition and hitting any hard bump would have resulted in a horrific accident! The wheel bearing hubs, brakes, and rotors all needed to be replaced, as well as wheel alignment. The extended warranty (Maxcare) received a work invoice from the approved repair facility and they denied all finding except the wheel bearing hubs. Meaning I was responsible with paying the mentioned above parts! I contacted my warranty company multiple times to question the denials. I spoke to representatives Michel, Kevin, and Supervisor Mr. O. Holland. Day one: Representative Michel inform that I could, conduct a three way call with the repair facility and have them resubmit their findings to an Adjuster. Day two:Representative Kevin was extremely rude and I immediately requested to speak to his supervisor Mr. Holland. Mr. Holland, explained my warranty contract states brakes, rotors, and wheel alignments are not covered. During our conversation I explained to him that the noise, and rusted wheel hubs was reported on the date of sale. He stated, I needed to contact the Carmax in Brandywine, Maryland where I initial purchased my vehicle and good luck with arguing your claim. Yes, he welcome for me to submit a claim to CarMax, however warned I would be waisting my time, due to high mileage placed on vehicle since date of purchase. Bottom line what's the point of purchasing the CarMax extended warranty! Mileage was not the factor, I am still within my allowed mileage limit. Had it not been for the negligence of the Brandywine, Maryland Carmax facility for selling a tainted vehicle, I would not have had this issue! This situation makes me never want to conduct business with Carmax every again! My partner and I have been scouring the web for an LR4, a good candidate was located at a relatively close CarMax dealership, so we paid the $99 for a transfer fee and were told it would be up to two weeks before the car arrived at the Brandywine location. This was on 8/7/20. (One key stipulation when looking at British cars from the NE was rust on the undercarriage/frame. We were assured that CarMax does not purchase or sell vehicles with rust on the undercarriage or frame). Two weeks rolled by and we still hadn't received a call from the store to setup an appointment to see/test drive etc. luckily throughout this process we had the pleasure of working with Caleb, a CarMax customer experience specialist not located at the Brandywine location. At the two week point we reached out to Caleb and the Brandywine store. The store had no idea what the status of the car was. Caleb learned that the title hadn't been sent with the car, so we had to wait longer for that to happen. Once they received the title, we still weren't contacted by Brandywine and we had to again intimate calls and contact with Caleb to find out what was going on. After several calls by ourselves and Caleb nobody at Brandywine seemed to know the status of the car. So finally we contacted the general manager at this location (Sharita, she can be reached at extension x3000 if anyone is brave enough to purchase from this store). She got to the bottom of the problem learning that an inspection had been performed upon arrival, but the servicing department had failed to properly update their system. So in essence the car was just sitting there. Finally Sharita contacted us and set up an appointment for viewing. When we arrived for a scheduled appointment the vehicle wasn't even washed and ready, and the associate couldn't find the vehicle. Now on to issues with the vehicle, which frankly I'd expect to find at a sleazy dealership hoping to find a clueless buyer. The frame, lower control arms, exhaust manifold, running boards, cv joints, and brake rotors all had rust on them. The exhaust manifold was even starting to degrade from it already. The car was filthy, dirt and sand were present all over the interior. There was oxidation inside the car on the passenger headrest metal supports. The leather was ripped in several locations. There were two error codes, one related to low fuel pressure and another I don't recall. Additionally, in the last 13 days there were other error codes cleared which couldn't be retrieved by my basic OBDII reader. There was some sort of significant air leak from the rear right after we stopped the test drive, but the sound stopped after a short while so I don't believe it was the tire. Leading me to suspect it may have been an issue with the air suspension on that side (a very costly repair for lander rovers). So, buyer beware. Especially if you are looking at the 2016 Land Rover LR4 HSE LUX that has been there since early August 2020 (dark blue exterior/tan interior). Btw, for someone willing to deal with the issues, this is one of the unicorn models with the HD package. Good luck, and probably avoid this location. So I came for an oil change (my appointment was at 8am) where I was instructed to "walk over to Target until my car is finished being service". It is now 9:38am and my vehicle was just taken back. We are unable to sit inside where they have ample amount of space to sit and social distance. I came back from Target at 9am and I do not understand why my vehicle isn't finished and I explained to the associated that I wasn't walking back to Target so they told me it was see adjacent to the service department. This is where all the car's pull in and sit to be checked in for service. So we are inhaling all different types of car fumes. The seat that he gave me was filthy and he didn't even bother to clean it. When I spoke to the associate about the inside seating she explained to me " that the reason they aren't using the seating because they would not have time to clean after each customer. I work in the hospital as a Radiologic Technologist I have to clean after every patient and now due to COVID19 when I have down time at work I do temperature checks and clean after each patient sitting in our waiting area along with the 20-30 plus exams I perform a day. I brought a car on Friday, October 13. I called on Monday October 16, ten times and no one ever picked up the phone. October 17, i finally had to call all over the building before i was transferred to the service dept and someone finally picked up the phone. I scheduled an appointment because i kept hearing a clicking noise coming from my tire and some other things that needed to be done to the car. They told me to come in on November 1 for service. On Friday morning October 20 around 6am half way to my doctors appt the noise begin to get louder. I called car max around 1030 same situation it took forever for someone to answer. I finally was able to get a hold of someone around 2. I informed the service dept of the loud noise and that i needed to drop the car off immediately. As we are headed to car max around 330. The tire flew off on Branch Ave in the middle of rush hour traffic. we broke down in the middle of the beltway holding traffic up for hours. We get picked up by AAA get to car max and they tell us to drop the car off at the end of the parking lot along with all the other broke down cars and cars that been in accidents. I ask for a manger because how are we going to put the car down on the pavement with three tires without messing up the bumper. I ask the service manager they walk me outside questioning me on how did the screws break on the tire . Good question sir, IDK! They ask if i had it parked somewhere. Yeah at work on a private garage. At home on my garage. I've been to the grocery store but nothing was wrong with the tire. They then tell me a story about another customer and how it was the customer fault. Before reaching my limit of no coming back. I ask What does that have to do with my situation and whats next. they stated that they didn't have any loaners and enterprise was closed. We would have to catch an uber and they would call us on Monday, October 23 to let us know whats going on. They did provide a rental car but i could not pick it up until Monday after 230. On Monday i did not receive a call with any updates and it's now Tuesday and still no call. I am so disappointed because i thought this was replicable business. They are very unprofessional and we could have gone in there with the worst attitude. We nearly almost killed ourselves and everyone around us. My son who has a junk and hauling business obtained financing through his business banker and was sent to Carmax because they are identified as one of BOA preferred dealers. Initially everything was fine however after 30 days of having the vehicle he received a threatening call saying his financing did not go through and he needed to return the vehicle asap (odd because he was approved through BOA) and if he did not the truck would be reported stolen. He went to the dealership as instructed and the attempt was made to make him re-apply using their financing. He declined because he wanted to use his bank financing and he wanted the truck in his business name. He left the dealership and the next Morning called the bank and was informed Carmax neglected to send purchase order and now the previous application expired. He did another application sent over the approval letter with bank instructions and was called again by the managers saying they did not care and want the vehicle back with no further explanation. This time I went back to the dealership with him and we were totally disrespected. I asked for his down payment so we could return the truck and go else where to purchase another vehicle due to the treatment. I was told either corporate would need to send me check or if we did not return the vehicle that day we would get nothing. I explained how could he purchase another work vehicle without having his down payment returned. We still have not returned the vehicle because they refused to make his business whole by returning his funds to purchase another vehicle. He has been approved the entire time through a legitimate banking institute (bank of America) but instead of owning their mistake of failing to submit paperwork to bank at time of purchase and when it was submitted they submitted in his personal name and not his business and BOA rejected it due to that not being the name on the application. When the mistake was caught he tried to rectify it but instead they would rather slam a young black qualified entrepreneur trying to do the right thing in life and earn a honest living rather than owning the mistake and making right by it and or return his funds. read more

I bought a car from carmax on Thursday, engine light came on saturday. Brought my car in on monday night to be serviced tuesday morning. tuesday afternoon I was called saying the engine light was on because the oil filter was loose and the oil was leaking so they did an oil change. I purchased a 2015 Audi from this location less than 90 days ago. I was told the car had two recalls. After recently moving to Virginia, I took my car to the Audi dealer for state inspection. I was shocked to learn that my car failed the inspection because of a cracked light and even more to find out that my brakes we're almost metal on metal. The estimated cost of repair is over $1,000. I contacted the local Carmax and the earliest service date they could give me was in 11 days with no option for a loaner. I bought a used car from CarMax in Brandywine, MD a month ago and I'm not able to refinance through a federal credit union without taking out a big signature loan out. Reason being is that 98k miles 2014 Hyundai does not book online for 14k$ price according to NADA report it's only worth 8k$ and Santander Consumer's high interest rates of 24% for my above 700 credit score. Santander Consumer will constantly act like they don't know what a 10 or 15 day pay off letter entails which means more waiting on them getting it right after constant repeating myself to different agents throughout every week since the purchase of initiating a refinance with another institution. Terrible customer service. Agent stated that they don't change the rate with no explanation to justify that statement. Bottom Line: Trade-in appraisal was $1,000 less than the lowest Kelly Blue Book (KBB) value (for a car that's in fair condition). It was a waste of time coming here for the appraisal. There were pro's and cons to my visit. Pros: Facility was well maintained; Appriasal process was smooth and structured. Rick was fantastic to work with. Outstanding customer support from Rick. I enjoyed our conversation and felt that I could trust him. If I ever recommend CarMax, it'll be to go see Rick. Cons: The only reason I didn't give CarMax a higher rating is because I'm of the opinion there appraisal was insulting low for a car as well maintained as mine (and low mileage). Went here to look for a car. When we walked in no one was in the front. So we just casually walked around then someone walked up and asked if we needed help(why of course we do!) lol. We told the sales person what we were looking for and she was like, "hmm I don't know if we have that car' if we do it would be outside." (Duh, right?) we went on a hunt for this car out side and finally found one. It wasn't the year I wanted so I asked to see a different car. This time she says, well let me look in the computer to see if we have it and where it is. What? You mean to tell me you have the ability to do that and we've just walked 900 acres of cars???? Total con artist. I took a Mercedes Benz that is in good shape. They offered me 1/6 th of the blue book value. What's most interesting is they told me my transmission was slipping. ABSOLUTELY NOT! In fact, I looked at the exact mileage on the car before they took it into the bay for the "appraisal". It appears they didn't even drive the car. In addition, I know my vehicle and the service records, which I have, and NEVER has anyone claimed I had a transmission issue. Did I mention the vehicle has low mileage, 3,100 miles per year driven? We saw a vehicle online and went through the process of having the vehicle shipped to Brandywine. When it finally arrived, the vehicle has to go through inspection before its ready for the customer. No one called to let us know that the vehicle was ready to view and test drive. I had to call to see if it was ready. So afterwards, we decided that we wanted the vehicle and that the we needed to redo the purchase order to send to the bank to process. To make a long story short, they shipped the vehicle to someone else without following up with us. As of today were ready to purchase and pick up and we already added insurance Ion the vehicle. I dont understand how you ship off a vehicle that already had a purchase order in place.No one made contact from the online sales nor instore sales. I had an 11am appointment and was immediately met by Ora Riveramedina the associate assigned to my appointment. Ora could not have been nicer as she explained the the covid 19 protocols. As we waited for our appraisal, Ora offered us beverages and made us feel comfortable with what was our first time selling a vehicle to CarMax. I purchased a car from Carmax in Brandywine. After a couple weeks of having the car. A wrench light came on. And the vehicle began to jerk. The vehicle then cut off. I took it back to brandywine. I was told to make an appointment. AN APPOINTMENT THAT WAS 2 WEEKS LATER. I told the guy, I just got this car. No wonder carmax gives you 5 days to return it and not a month. He then allowed me to come in earlier in the week. But it was still 2 weeks. I don't understand why no one couldn't of looked at my car then. Since it had a been a few weeks since I received the vehicle. I continued to have problems. Finally brought it to carmax. They said. It hasn't been cutting off. (Basically calling me a liar) That the reason the car jerks is because I am putting cheap gas in it. (I haven't, I always use bp gas/Ultimate. They told me the wrench light comes on when I need an oil change. I'm like but there's an oil change indicator to let me know. Why would a wrench light come on? I HAD TO PAY, for them to look at the vehicle, I paid for an oil change, and I received a free car wash. Something I didn't want. I continue to have problems with the car. The same issues. Then the vehicle started to overheat and smoke came from the hood. So I took it to another mechanic. I was quoted 1598.67 bill to fix the problem. A problem carmax couldn't fix. Do not buy cars from here. Carmax buys cars from people. But I don't think they fix them to somewhat like new. After a couple weeks of having the vehicle. I needed to put the third row seat down. I flipped up the seats. And there were stains in the carpet. I couldn't get out. There were spiders down by the gas/brake pedal. I kept getting bit. While driving. Till my son sprayed bug spray under the driver chair and up under the steering column. A beetle and spider were laying on the dash board and floor of my vehicle the next morning dead. Bad experience. NEVER AGAIN. Worst, horrible, experience. I told the finance company to come and get the vehicle. Why pay for the lemon note and the repairs. Too much of a hassle. read more

This was the worst experience buying a car I have ever had. I asked about the car before it was shipped. I was assured there was no damage to the interior or exterior. The car arrived with significant scratches to the dash and back seats, a pull in the interior, the moulding on the driver's door was off, and the plate over the engine was off. There were stains on the seats and "grime" on the dash, visors, and ceiling. None of this was shown in the pictures. I was told the car was cleaned before I arrived to test drive, as I was concerned due to COVID. I was texted and called a total of 9 times to confirm I was coming and it was confirmed that the car was ready for the test drive and cleaned. When I arrived, the car could not be found and it was not cleaned. I took off work to come and had to wait, causing me to have to take off more work. The tires needed to be balanced. I was told it would be done the next day and the car would be detailed. There was no call the next day. I had to call three different times to find out what was going on. I was told the car was detailed and the tires were balanced. I returned to buy the car and, again, the car couldn't be found. Once located, it hadn't been cleaned at all. I was assured the tires were balanced. The contract had to be written three times because of errors made. I lost two days of work due to this. Never again. read more

They assured me a car was mine, all they had to do was make one repair. They said they would call and let me know when I could pick it up. I made contact the next day to show my continued interest in the car and they said they had sold it. They had assured me several times I was the only one looking at said car and that it would be mine after the repair was made. read more
