First let me start by saying I just purchased from CarMax in Vancouver a year ago and was super happy. My husband wanted a truck so I pre did everything online and came in to purchase a dodge ram. We got there and when they went to get it it had mold in the cab. We asked if there were any other 4x4 trucks and the sales rep said no. I went to my phone while being over with kids in the kids corner and found a Chevy Silverado the sales rep just said didn't have 4x4 and told my husband it did have it. At this point I was a little irritated I had to drive over all the was from Ridgefield wa and this sales rep had no interest in helping find something. My husband test drove and loved so we purchased. 2 days after purchasing we had to have it towed cause the battery was unresponsive. Ugh. Ended up having to buy a new battery but hey all good. We received the transfer papers and check to take to register. They told us it may be a few dollars off (me thinking a few is $20ish) no it was $482 !!!! Spoke to James the sales manager and they said well sorry but it's estimated. Nothing they can do. Yea we can return it but my husband likes it. Our financing is already in place. Have been car shopping for a few months now decided to give them a try. After all the generic car suggestions for Altima's I found a Mazda that I wanted to get. Reserved the car to be shipped to this location and set up an appointment to continue with the process since my phone was going to die and I wasn't home to charge it. The following day I waited for my appointment call to continue the process of purchasing the car and it never received it. I then called in to continue the process for the purchase of the car I RESERVED only to find out that the Carmax employees cancelled my reservation and sold the car to someone else. My wife and I came into Carmax this afternoon on a whim. We had been discussing getting her a new car and decided, what the hell, let's go for it. We had been eyeing this particular Kia Optima on Carmaxs website for a couple weeks. So we go in, there was a bit of a wait, which was surprising considering how empty the store was. We waited close to an hour for a free sales consultant. Either way, it was worth it because our sales consultant, Chris, was awesome. Let me mention that my wife and I both used to work at Carmax so we get the fact that usually Sundays have less staff on hand. Chris was very helpful and friendly. While the buyers appraised our vehicle, we took the Optima on a test drive. By the time we got back, the appraisal was just wrapping up (props to the buyers for being quick!). Chris walked us through the details however he was conscientious about the fact that both of us worked there and didn't need the extra long version. We both appreciated that. The appraisal came back way higher than we had expected. We signed paperwork and drove off the lot very quickly after all of that was taken care of. I needed a 3rd row SUV for my family but we were having a really hard time finding one in our price range that we liked with low miles. We decided to check the Portland carmax and we found our vehicle! I was able to get the financing all setup through phone and sent all my documents over via email, so that when I made the trip to Portland all I had to do was do my test drive then sign the paperwork! Melissa was an awesome sales rep and I HIGHLY recommend her! Even the finance manager was cool, and they didn't try to sell me any crazy add-ons or anything. My car is a 2013 Subaru forester that has a new engine block, and a recently replaced catalytic converter (which was a weld job so it makes a little noise when revved). I was looking to just sell them my car if they gave me an offer close to decent but after arriving at 1230 and waiting for an hour to receive my offer they lowballed me at 1k less than the website offered; 3k less than what a Subaru shop offered because of "engine noise". It might have helped if they had an actual mechanic look at my car but they didn't seem interested in doing right by the customer unless it would result in a sale (just observing what I heard with their customer service and other people they were helping with newer cars that came after me yet were seen before me). If it helps someone in a similar situation that's just looking to sell a car but have a mechanic look at it so they can see how well you've taken care of it I'd look elsewhere read more

We had a great experience using Carmax to sell our old vehicle and buying a newer replacement. They gave a good price for the "trade-in". The guy I was working with Naveen was very helpful and responsive. The only negative we ran i to is I found the specific truck I wanted at another Carmax out of state. It was a hard to find 2018 Dodge Durango RT in red. Good price for only having 13.5k miles on it too. The two things that were a bit irritating is I had to pay $700 to have it shipped local. If I decided I didn't want it because say it smelled or whatever, I was still out the $700. The second and most irritating thing was the time it took to ship the truck. I was told 21 days... which is a long time when your ready to buy it that day. We were in the middle of moving and going on a trip. So timing was critical. Long story short, it took 25 days to get which barely worked with our schedule. One thing that would have helped improve the experience is if that had a better tracking system like UPS/FedEx tracking live tracking. It was "shipped" status for weeks and had no idea when it was going to show up. read more

My friend sold her truck to CarMax last night, so I went to give her a ride home. I thought since we were there, I'd get an appraisal on my truck just for the heck of it. It's a 2003 Ranger that I bought brand new in October of '03. Jerry took my info and said if my truck was gone, don't worry because it's just out on a quick test run. My friend and I perused the cars for sale and kept checking to see if my truck was back. It seemed to be taking awhile, so we went to Jerry. He proceeds to tell me he didn't think the guy knew how to drive a stick! Omg, so my truck that I take really good care of and just put a new clutch in is out with some kid probably grinding its gears and stalling it all over the place? Wonderful. The kid thankfully makes it back and I get the appraisal offer. I immediately notice "prior paintwork" listed on hood, driver front door, driver fender and passenger fender. WHAT?! This truck has never been wrecked. I backed into something a few years ago and put a baseball-sized dent on the rear corner behind the bumper and had it repaired, but that is the only spot ever damaged. I questioned him and the kid says "Oh, I rubbed the front fender and it felt rough, so I assumed it had been repainted." Eff me. It's Spring - pollen and rain season. My truck is dirty, and NOW he's rubbing his hands all over it! Greaaaat. He also mentioned he was surprised that it's so shiny. Wow. Amazing what waxing your vehicle will do to extend paint life, even when it's red. Ever heard of wax, kid? All I will say in closing is that I'm really sorry I put my poor truck through that experience. I feel like I owe it dinner and flowers. read more

She finally noticed me and started helping me. I gave her a little attitude cause of how long I was waiting and she multiplied it by 10 and threw it back, every question I asked I got a short and crappy answer that didn't really answer my question. Terrible experience for my second time using Carmax... My wife said she was hoping Sarah would've been there to help us like last time, we talked about our 3 dog for like 5 minutes and she was a joy. I took my 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited L that only has 1,000 miles on it to be appraised thinking to possibly trade it for a Tesla. (Looking for more of a commuter car) my jeep is rare has captain seats and interior camera. (I looked and can't find this edition anywhere In this area. I was distracted and accidentally gave my purchase order for the vin number reference. When I got my offer from car max they offered me 2,000 less then what I owe which is not even close to the value of the vehicle as I placed a large down payment on this vehicle. I was browsing the lot while I waited and they had a 2018 for sale asking the same price they just offered me for my rare vehicle. I Kelly blue booked it myself and Kelly says it's worth $15,000 more. Kelly said it is $58,000 and they offered $43,000. This is the second bad experience I have had now and will be spreading the word to family and friends what a horrible company this is. I think (hope) we got a good car. Pros: big inventory. Good website with thorough car info. Cons: the buying experience was no different than a creepy, greasy used car dealership. Switch and bait on the trade-in for our car, we had to check and recheck and recheck again on the paperwork... they'd get our hone address wrong, they'd have a typo on the name. Overall, a lack of transparency and seemingly deliberate "mistakes" that dragged the buying and financing process out over 3 days and hours and hours spent "clarifying" issues... they wore us down and we just wanted to take the car home and take a shower to wash the experience off. And there were still mistakes in the paperwork we brought home. Advice to others: come prepared for an exhausting experience. read more

Carfax checked out good but the car had right front fender repair very visible mat finish, shop manager admitted he could tell it was repaired from ten feet away.... they did not offer to fix it told take it or return it, car had 2200 miles more than listed. the underside of car packed with clay and sand, engine bay very dirty, air filter needed to be replaced. Staff very kind except shop manager I think he did not like being called out. Bought it for 4k below market and fixed it myself. read more

I have never thought it improtant to write a review, until now. My boyfriend and I purchase a car through carmax earlier in june. To my knowledge and understanding the car was completely up to date, which is not the case.They are NOT required to completely fix everything, but only to make it up to par. If the carmax representatives would have explained this straight from the beginning, it would have saved me a lot of wasted time and stress, and I would not have purchased the car. On another note i would never recommend taking any car to get serviced through carmax. The service manager (Will) does not want to help in any way, but only arugue with you and insult your intelegence. The day after getting the car, my boyfriend checked the oil, which had NO OIL IN THE VEHICLE. He had to go buy oil and fill it up. He then called carmax, explained the situation and their response was that the car recieved an oil change in January and the best they could do was look at it. So we decided to send the car to honda to have to check and make sure nothing else was wrong with the car. Honda said that the only other thing wrong was the brakes. They explained the front breaks were at 50% percent and would need to be changed in the near future. HONDA DID NOT TRY TO SELL US BREAK, AS THEY KNEW WE WOULD TAKE IT BACK TO CARMAX TO BE FIXED (or so we thought!). Now to us this was an issue that we wanted solved. We then called carmax and told them we wanted it to be fixed, Now at this time WILL could have explain the carmax poilicy that they are not required to put new break on the car before selling it, but no... He instead said, "honda was just trying to sell you new breaks, but we will look at them". My boyfriend took the car in and they told him the breaks were more then fine. I called later that day to speak with Will to explain my frustration with them. He told me they would not change the breaks. I proceeded to say that I felt unsatisfied with their service because we never got any of our problems taken care of. Which was the oil and the breaks. Then he asked me what were my boyfriend qualifications to determine that there was no oil in the vehicle!!!!! I was completly taken aback.. i repsonded with "it does not take a rocket scientist to take the dipstick out, run it through your fingers, and realise THERE IS NO OIL ON YOUR HAND!" I later spoke with another manager and they best they car do for me is let me give the car back and get rid of my loan. Its funny they would rather do that then just change the breaks.. I will never purchase a car through carmax again and if you would like to avoid headaches, stress, and be spoken to with respect I would encourage you to take your business else where. read more

Do not give them your phone number! They will not stop calling you, even after you tell them to stop. I wanted to text drive two separate cars on separate days because of my schedule. I've begged each salesman to stop calling and I'd call them when I decide what I wanted. But still, I get calls every three days. I honestly don't know what I've been doing with my life before taking my car related business to Carmax. I had sold a car to Carmax (a different location) once before and recalled how I liked the experience, so decided to return to them when I needed to buy another used car years later. Well, this was no different and I was so pleasantly surprised with how easy this was. I saw a car online that I liked, they reserved it/took it off the website the day before so I could test drive it. Between test driving, applying for financing, and getting my old car appraised and sold, I would say I was there for 4 hours. That may sound like a long time, but try doing all that at a sleazy used car dealership. You will literally be there all day. Everything with Carmax runs like a well-oiled machine and every single staff member was professional and nice and seemed to genuinely be in a good mood. No gross sales tactics. No macho dude BS. Their financing department approved me right away (which is a big deal as a self-employed person because I always have to jump through more hoops than most people), I got the best interest rate I think I've ever gotten on a loan in my life, and Eric the "sales"man was seriously so helpful and knowledgable. I'm never dealing with anyone but Carmax ever again. read more

This was my second vehicle I purchased from carmax, so I entrusted them to be honest about the vehicle history/report. Come to find out 5 months later as I'm trying to trade my Mercedes in at Mercedes of Beaverton there's an accident on the record!! All they could offer me was an appraisal for the vehicle which will be less than market value of what I paid because of the accident I'm now aware of on the record. I bought a 2017 Toyota RAV4 from CarMax of Beaverton, OR in early September 2019. My purchase experience was easy and I appreciate the no haggle pricing policy. I knew exactly what car I wanted, which was located in Phoenix. I paid to have it shipped up to Beaverton, and my salesman James kept me updated about progress along the way. The car arrived a few days before anticipated. Once it arrived and I had made the purchase, I discovered a shuddering noise/issue within the first day. I live an hour and a half from Carmax, so they allowed me/paid for me to diagnose it at my local Toyota dealership so that I didn't have to drive 3hrs roundtrip back to CarMax. After 2 appointments at my local dealership, it was diagnosed that the external transmission cooler was leaking coolant into the transmission, and that both the transmission cooler and the transmission would need to be replaced. I took my vehicle back into Carmax, and they took my car to Aamco for repair. Christine, my Carmax Service Center contact, kept in regular (almost daily) contact with me for the 2 weeks that it took to replace the transmission and transmission cooler. She continually reassured me that it was still covered under the 4,000 mile/90 Day warranty and that I wouldn't pay a thing. Carmax paid the $5,100 repair...no questions at all, and on my way out the door after picking up my car Christine said, "Make sure you check everything else before the 90 day warranty is up!". I highly recommend CarMax Beaverton! I was thoroughly impressed with how they took care of me and truly lived up to their warranty with no question whatsoever and a positive upbeat attitude the whole time! Heaven, my sales person was very easy going, matched our personality very well and did not push the extended warranty so hard like some do. Facility was super clean, great spot for my kid to play while mom and I too lol turns test driving the car. Washed it and filled it with gas before I left the dealership. Felt what I thought was a misfire, carmax paid for my local jeep dealership to do a diagnostic, just needed a computer reset. Wife bought an Audi Q5 over a month ago. When it comes to paperwork, they DO NOT show the customer their inspection sheet when the vehicle arrives, we found a large star in the line of sight. They finally replaced it. When we picked it up,, a mechanic left a tool in the engine bay (Safelite), Rear brakes were worn, tires were at 4/32nds, their policy is they replace tire(s) at 4/32nds or less, they refused to replace the tires, 2nd day of owing it, there was a huge puddle of oil on our driveway, had it towed to Carmax, they said they installed the wrong oil plug and washer. They replaced it and same thing happened again. So we took it to Audi Of Beaverton, they did a full inspection, texted me a full documentation and video of the inspection and found a leaky power steering pump, carmax refused to replaced it. Now We've only driven the car for one day. After two weeks at the Audi dealer, carmax FINALLY agreed to replace the power steering pump. BE VERY CAUTIOUS BUYING A CAR AT CARMAX. Great experience for getting a quote when selling my car. I only had to wait a couple minutes before being helped when I showed up for my appointment. Calvin was great. He explained everything to me very clearly and I got to observe the inspection of my car, which was very thorough. The woman who inspected my car was knowledgeable and had no problem answering my questions and explaining what she was doing and looking for. They gave me some good information on my car, told me approximately what they would sell it for, and then gave me a great offer. It was $1,500 more than what a Subaru dealership had offered me, and they never even looked under the hood or did an inspection like CarMax did. The whole process took about 30-45 minutes, just like they said it would. I didn't feel pressured to sell the car on the spot and Calvin kindly followed up with me within the week to see if I had come to a decision. (Quotes last for a week.) Ultimately, I have not sold my car to CarMax but it was a really great way to gauge how much I could sell it for if selling to a private party does not work out. I was helped out by Kim; nice individual but I got low balled by a lot. Carmax was the first place I took my 2012 Mustang w/39k miles. I was very much looking forward to doing business with them since they are so highly advertised. I looked at their inventory to see the average price for Mustangs. Carmax has a 2004 Mustang listed for $10,995 on their website with 80k miles. WoW, what a mark-up. I still went in and hoped for the best. I had kelly blue book and average price is at $16.5 to $17.2K I was offered $12,500. Their is nothing wrong with my Mustang; Clean title, new rims & tires, premium package, HID lights, oil changed every 5k miles. They said that price was fair. If I had accept their offer- Carmax turns around a resells it at low price of $16k that KBB suggested. That's a $3,500 profit. read more

This has been a amazing experience. I filled the application online and with in 5 minutes I had an answer. I came into check out what kind of car I wanted with my family. The next day I test drove the car I wanted and the paperwork took about 20 minutes. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop but it never did. It was so easy. If I am getting a car from a dealership I will always use CarMax. This is the second car we have purchase from them. Went here to purchase a car, found the one we wanted only to find out it would not start. :/ While they were trying to get it to start, they ran our credit to figure out financing. The "very good" interest rate they got us was 8.25%?!? They gave us a song and dance about the three day return period and the option to pay off in full if we found the loan cheaper somewhere else (a credit union). After a four hour car purchasing extravaganza why would I want to spend time securing another loan?!?
