wish I would have looked at yelp prior to buying here. 10,000$ vehicle. check oil level alarm started going off on the way home after 40 miles, got it home with alarm going on and off. Found out vehicle had 6 quarts of oil in a 4.5 qt case and they changed oil and filter in their "certified" shop. changed oil, vvt pressure and oil pressure switch. car is still throwing check oil level codes. Hopefully this just needs the 09-012 software update for this issue. Never buy a car here, go down to Rudy Luther as they include a 30 day some mile warranty on their used cars. Great service and sales but I had to book an appointment for a tire rotation a month out. They must be pretty short staffed.

I dealt with a sales guy named Stephen, a sales manager named Emily, and the General Manager named Carrie. Sales guy was absolutely clueless on how to sell a car and went sideways from day one. I was dealing with a specialty vehicle that the dealership wasn't sure they would even get one allocated. Was told no deposit required until it gets allocated, then they would call and request $500. Well...they did get one allocated about 4 months later...I Never notified when the car was allocated, and never called and asked for a deposit. When I asked why I asked why I wasn't called, I didn't get an explanation. Was then told I was required to trade in my current car on all "new hybrid" purchases to "keep inventory up on the lot" to even be considered. Brought my car in, and was insulted with an offer of $2500. I took my keys and left. Contacted General Manager Carrie and was basically blown off. She said I never put down a deposit on the vehicle...which is true... CAUSE NOBODY EVER ASKED ME FOR ONE! No apology, no phone call, nothing but excuses. I went to Maplewood Toyota and talked to Rick, but he couldn't get me the car allocated. Luckily I got one allocated from Brookdale. No trade in requirements, no markups, no bullshit. I did end up trading mine in to Brookdale...for $7000, over double that Carlson insulted me with. I am in town spending time with my grandparents. The 12 volt battery on their Prius died. I got it started and called these guys. It was a Friday afternoon. I first talked with Lance, in service, who said they were busy but they could sneak us in. We headed that way. Once there, I talked with James, who got us all set up and going for a new battery. I went to get my oil change and they ended up breaking my SUV oil pan drain plug! They went and over tightened my oil pan plug to the point where it stripped the screw plug and ended up causing a major leak! They tried to trap me into buying a new oil pan for $300 from them! My car never leaked and Maplewood Toyota (who carlson Toyota is blaming now) has never told me or informed me of any problem with my plug before! How convenient... the service supervisor or whatever at Carlson lies thru his teeth and tries to fix the wrong doings of his unskilled untrained mechanics/technicians by blaming other Toyota service techs and charging you! The owner lady (Paige Carlson) only came and offered me her last name like that is gonna fix my issue!! She is scared of all the bad reviews she has gotten! And let me tell you- one star is too much for her and her company! My car is now parked in my driveway waiting to be serviced! The oil that came out of it is pitch black! I really have no qualms with this dealership at this time. We had hit and miss situations and I believe it's not the dealership but the individual employees to blame if there is any. Anyhow. I was required to reschedule my oil change because I was 10 minutes late (ran into an accident on freeway). So I unhappily reschedule. You bet I'm a little early for the new appointment only to see it's been now 25 minutes past the start of my appointment and my vehicle is still waiting. I asked dude if they're running behind, and he replied, no, they're running pretty much on time. This is a car I bought from this dealer. When it was completed, I was informed I would need to pay $84 for the oil change despite the person who received the car confirming there was no charge for today's service. When I challenged the cost and said don't do the service then the employee told me it had been done i needed to pay for it. I was then directed to a manger who greeted me by saying "why don't you want to pay for the oil change?" Then he told his employee to bring the car back in and put the old oil back in. He asked me how I felt about that and I said OK. Then he told me he would explain my rights to me and that he could charge me up to $100 each time I bring my car to them. He was condescending and bullying to me. After he scolded me, he told me they would cover it this time...I refused to let them. I would rather they receive this money from me, since it is the last time I will ever do business with them. I encourage people to avoid this dealer. This is a revised review in light of their response to the critical feedback I left the first time. I've written some harsh Yelp reviews, but I've never had a business respond to my concerns so satisfactorily or so thoroughly. I think most people will have a very good experience at Carlson Toyota. The facility is large and clean, and it's tended to by people who are genuinely kind and down-to-earth. I came to this location, despite its isolation from my normal hangouts, because I knew I wanted a Toyota (very high reputation for quality and reliability) and I wanted to use the Costco Auto Program. As a Costco member, this program allows you to go with their previously-negotiated prices at specific dealerships. Carlson Toyota is the only Toyota dealer in the Twin Cities that works with the Costco Auto Program. Despite that benefit, my sales experience was not unaggressive, but I came away with basically the car I was hoping for, and it was a pretty painless process. I wound up being a little confused about which features I was going to end up with, so I think that part could have been better clarified for me. Toyota's designs appear to be highly focused on safety features, and my salesman took pride in that. I find that comforting, especially as someone who drives a lot in a metro area filled with people who seem to have been taught at an early age that the only speed limit is their imagination. The issue I had which inspired my original review is resolved. One important thing to note about it is that the issue seems to be a consequence of new under-the-hood design changes to this car. So it was a defect that they hadn't seen before and from what I gather would have been difficult to figure out. They seemed to find it gratifying to have solved it and gained knowledge that will benefit future customers. But the main reason that I'm upgrading my rating of Carlson Toyota so significantly is that they bent over backwards to improve my experience. They made every effort to minimize any inconvenience to me, including delivering a loaner vehicle for me at work, and filling the tank when they were done with it (it was at less than a quarter tank). Because I bought the car new a month earlier and dealt with this odd defect the whole time, they clearly wanted to give me a true sense of "now you truly have a brand new flawless car", because they cleaned it as if they were delivering a new car, and even buffed out some small scratches that I'd incurred. That stuff was all well above my expectations. I really can't imagine a better response to my problem. I will happily continue to have its maintenance done at Carlson Toyota and I think I can stand by my recommendation of their service department. read more

Having scheduled maintenance is great here. Asking about an issue is a headache. We brought the fiancés car in for some scheduled maintenance. Upon our arrival some indicator lights came on. She explained to the technician what was going on. She was told she would have to schedule someone to look at it another time. I understand that they are on a schedule but customer service should be a priority. Especially since the car was purchased from here brand new. The facility it very clean. Lots of seating along with complimentary beverages and snacks. The waiting area is fairly quiet. Several TV's to chose from. They also provide charging stations for your cell phone. They do provide a car washing too but appears to sprayed down by a hose and not dried. Side note as I approached the entrance, on crutches, 2 employees watched me struggle with the doors. Unbelievable horrible service from a employee named Will at this dealership, I had schedule to get a oil change, unforunately due to work conflict I wasnt able to make this schedule so I had my wife take my 2018 Camry xse in for the appointment. She was inform by service personel that my 2018 Camry didnt need a oil change yet, but Will suggest that a tire rotation was needed. After waiting for 1 1/2 hours to get this service completed, wife then had a SURPRISE for the ages... the Camry was driven and parked out side from the service bay by workers, the right side mirror was missing its cover with the side lights dingling. My wife noticed it and went back into the service area and spoke with Will. This unprofessional worker Will instead of apologizing for the damage that his workers caused, instead placed the blame on a customer, who came into carlson Toyota in good faith to get services performed on their car. My wife then contacted myself via facetime and had me speak with this UNPROFESSIONAL employee Name Will. This Unprofessional worker Will instead of apologizing for the damages caused by his worker teammates to me, actually had the nerve to placed the blame on me saying that my car mirror was already damage. I got a call from Carlson toyota that there is a recall on my Rav4 on the battery, they told me it need to be check. It should only take about 15 minutes. I schedule the appointment on Monday 3/4/2024 at 8 am. I got there at 7:48 am and guess what I didn't get my car back until 9:38. I saw my car park out in the lot at 8:50 am already but I didn't get any call or text. At 9 Am, I went ask the cash lady to check on it's my car ready because I have to go to work. The lady told me, it's not ready I should be patient and wait until I being call. By 9:30, I went outside to check on my car to see if somone is working on or not. I saw no one out there, so I came back and the service guys call me that he is still document my car information. What a liar, he been sitting there all those time doing nothing. Was interested in a used 2016 Honda Fit they had. Was curious about a few condition things and called since the dealership was an hour and a half away from me. Annika Froiland had answered my call, I wanted to make sure it wasnt smoked in and no major dents or dings. She said she has not been in this particular car yet, she sent me a video of the car and pointed out things like minor dings and while she was on the inside of the car you could see the gas gauge flashing(she stated that it needed gas). A few days later I decided to go to the dealership for a test drive, they knew I was coming and had the car heated up. I ended up buying the car. The day after I purchased the vehicle, I noticed that the gas gauge was not working, and once the car was heated up for over a half hour or so the gas gauge would start working. This continued to happen a few days, my wife had called the dealership and was told that they werent interested in helping since I didnt purchase the warranty. Im assuming they knew about the issue, I looked back at the video Annika sent me, I noticed that the gas gauge was just flashing and didnt show anything about the fuel being low. Whomever started the car should of noticed that the gas gauge was not working. I Later received a call from a manger, Ryan Townsend, he said he would check with the service dept and get back to me the next day. I did not hear from him from over a week and ended up doing research and fixing the issue myself, had to take apart most of the dash and remove the instrument panel and resolder it. I then did not receive the plates for the car, and the temp plates had expired. I emailed Ryan to see if he knew how long it took and to make sure they had the correct address they provided to the DMV, when I was purchasing the car they kept asking me if an address that I havent lived at for over 15 years was my address, not even sure how they got that address. Ryan emailed me saying hed look into it. I have not heard back from him. Had I known of the gas gauge issue, I would have not purchased it. read more

BEWARE! The service department damaged one of my tires during regular tire rotation and the remedy they offered me was for me to buy a set of 4 tires. Did not offer to cover the price of the one they damaged. The only other option offered was to replace the damaged tire with a new one but they basically warned me that if they do that, it will cause damage to my dive train due to uneven tire tread - so basically the message was "I am screwed" because of their mistake. From going in for a $30 tire rotation to having to spend $1000 on all 4 tires. Service manager was so rude when I was explaining my situation - threatened to have me pay for service that I did not intend to have, just because I refused to be conned into paying for unnecessary service in order to cover for their mistake. Basically, if you are not vigilant or able to advocate for yourself, they will con you into pay for any errors they make through predatory sales. My story, we purchased a vehicle from Carlson toyota, a previously owned vehicle with an extended warranty. Within two weeks of our purchase, it needed a minor repair (easy fix). I called to make an appointment, I was told by the service advisor to take my vehicle to another dealership that is better at diagnosing my issue (not Toyota), I politely reminded him that we had just purchased the car from them. Shortly after, I received a call from Jill, she told me that someone from the service department would be calling me or the used car manager would be, I received no such call. Jill had told me that if I needed any more help, to call her, which I did, again no return call. I drove to the dealership and again I was told by the service advisor to take my car to another dealership (their competitor ) after some discussion they did reluctantly take care of the issue, problem solved. Now it's been two months, I have not received my extended warranty paperwork, I have left two messages for Jill for help and again no return calls. Oh, by the way, the service advisor told me that he didn't even know Jill. I have called Toyota, my extended warranty has not been entered in the system yet?????? This was my first time visiting this repair shop and I will definitely be back. I needed my alignment done and I wanted my brakes checked too. But most importantly, I eanwan to make sure my car would be in the best possible shape for the upcoming crummy-weather months. I loved the ease of being able to schedule my appointment on their website. I chose an available date and time that worked for me and was able to select the services I wanted done. Super easy and convenient! I was quoted prices for the services I wanted done, gave the guy my keys, and took a seat in the waiting area until my partner came to pick me up. I got a call a couple hours later letting me know what they found and asking for my okay to perform the services they felt my car needed. At that time they also mentioned services that were recommended based on the mileage, and I asked that those be performed as well after being quoted a total price for it all. Three hours later I got another call letting me know my car was ready to be picked up. When I arrived I saw my car waiting for me, and I was super happy to see they'd cleaned the exterior! I was planning a trip to a car wash this weekend, so this was a well-timed and greatly appreciated surprise! The total cost for repairs was $40 less than I was quoted (again, nice surprise), and the ladies at the cashier desk were super friendly - we chatted a bit about the upcoming holidays as I was checking out. I have struggled to find a dedicated auto repair place for my car, as I've had one disappointing experience after another. I purchased a new Tacoma and love the truck. But I did not know that even before i bought the truck there had been a Technical Service Bulletin issued stating that the Day-Time-Running lights would melt the headlight assembly. Unknown to me was that this problem was a widely know issue affecting thousand of truck over many years. I was never informed of this defect and re-designed replacement parts were not installed before I purchased the truck. As I'm retired I drive very little and so I did not discover this problem till the warranty had expired. It took some research on the web to discover the Technical Service Bulletin on my own. I was never notified of the TSB. Carlson said they would now not cover the issue. I did offer that if they just gave me the parts I could easily handle the installation myself so no technician labor time involved. They did suggest that i contact Toyota Corporation, which proved fruitless after talking to three different agents. They suggested the dealer was responsible. At this point I am wondering if my melting lights will eventually cause a fire or an electrical problem. The retail cost of the assemblies is far more than I can afford but I'm guessing for Toyota its about $20 dollars worth of plastic. Toyota did notify me of a frame corrosion issue with the truck and they did efficiently take care of that issue free of charge. This issue was also after the warranty had expired. Do yourself a favor and buy from any other dealer! I never write reveiws but I felt flat out lied to and stolen from so I wanted to tell my story. I purchased a new 4runner and traded in my car at Carlson Toyota. I agreed to pay what they were asking, because of course they wouldn't budge, and we agreed on a trade in value for my car. I signed a purchase agreement and gave them $500 to seal the deal. It took two months or so for my new car to show up. In that time I spoke with my salesman 3 times (one was even him calling me to confirm the sale and trade in price which was what we agreed on) and received several text updates with status of the new vehicle. At no point in these many conversations did they mention any price change. Then I show up to take delivery and sign paperwork and they say "Man used car prices really took a dip and we need to lower our trade offer $5000". Not a typo $5000. Somehow my car lost a quarter of it's value in two months? I doubt it. But of course they have me hostage at that popint and they can't lose. Either I don't take the deal and they sell the new car the next day because inventory ios so low. Or I take it in the shorts because I don't want to start the nightmare car buying process over again. I don't think this is a mistake because they waited until delivery day, and I was in front of them to ambush me. Total old school, car salseman "take advantage at any cost" practice is going on over there at Carlson Toyota. After the paperwork was signed my salesman had another sucker on the hook so to pour salt in my wounds nobody even did the whole new car tutorial walkthrough. They threw the plates on and said "see ya later". Also when I got home the tire pressure was at about double what it should be so they never really took the effort to go over it before delivery. We have owned Toyota's for the past 30 years. Was on a road trip driving through Minnisota and experienced an electrical issue with our Toyota. Stopped at the closest Toyota Dealership, Carlson Toyota. Waited 15 minutes to speak to a customer service representative. Was told that they could not look at it for days. No consideration for our predicament, not even a suggestion on where we could go. Fortunately, found and AWESOME Toyota Dealership down the road that took us in and fixed the issue in less than 10 minutes at no charge. Worst experience ever with Toyota Dealership. My catalytic converter was stolen in the parking lot, when I was waiting for repairs on my display dashboard. Got a call from a Carlson Toyota rep saying they weren't going to repair it for free, and could give me a quote. The parking lot doesn't have cameras so we can't find out who did it. Either way don't take you car here if you want the repairs to take 5 days, and have your catylitic converter stolen in the parking lot :) if you also want the service managers to talk to your chest this is the place for you. They will treat you like you don't know what's wrong with your car garunteed the service managers are terrible perverts who will not only try to molest you but also your car. read more
