I have going to Carl's for years. I have all kinds of foot problems this is the place that tries to solve them. They make orthotics from a cast so there is never a fit problem. Sales people go down into their storage room and usually come back with a minimum of 3 pair to try on. They are very knowledgeable and you can trust their opinion. I Will never recommend this place nor return. Smh. Waste of 2 trips. First trip we arrive 20 minutes before closing, as a walk in. Older Lady at counter says oooh we need an appointment because there is insurance paperwork etc that they need time to do, and not enough time. So we ask to see shoes, sales lady was helpful. So we scheduled appointment to come back to get those shoes. We come back there, was seated, sales lady takes insurance info, comes back literally not even 5 minutes later and says insurance won't cover another pair yet. They could've saved us a trip and just looked at insurance info the first time we were there since it didn't even take 5 minutes to do so. Thennnn, we waited, and was gonna buy the shoe cash, but sales lady never returned. She was in back of store sitting n chit chatting. While waiting, we found shoes online wayyyy CHEAPER $70 LESS. Will order online. This is a popular store and just had higher expectations of customer service. read more

I live in the Chicago suburbs, and wanted to buy comfort slippers for my MIL in PA. I found a slipper here, but needed to find a store closer to her that carried them, in case she needed to exchange them. The distributor told me that Carl's Shoes carried the style. Since it was the week before Christmas, calling the store, ordering, took a bit of perseverance. The woman I spoke with was great, patient, professional, helpful. A couple of other employees that answered the phone were definitely more brisk, curt, less service-oriented. Again, could be the time of year...hopefully! My 22 month old son was having some trouble with his feet that I wanted to get a shoes for him and properly measured. I was referred to Carl's. I drove 45 minutes to be treated completely awful. I went in The morning in hoping I could be in and out. I was helped by a sales clerk named Megan. I really thought at first this could be a nice experience but my son was scared and was crying. The other sales clerks and Megan made me completely embarrassed. Instead of being a bit more understanding, I was pushed out. Also, the comments I received were mortifying by customers and the sales. It was a real struggle but They really should be a shame of themselves with the customer service. I was rushed out of there and completely treated awful. Paid 115.00 for two pairs of shoes. I had a wonderful experience at this store the other day. I made an appointment for my one year old baby to get fitted for some shoes. The staff was so kind and helpful and clearly very experienced with children. My baby was giving them a hard time while trying on shoes but they were so patient with him. I bought two pairs of shoes! My husband needed shoes and custom insoles as prescribed by his podiatrist so we went to Carl's. He picked two pairs of shoes and his insoles were molded. Well, my husband kept insisting that they were too big and his podiatrist agreed. Our Doctor told us to go a half size smaller. That did not go over well at Carl's. The shoe salesman said to us, does your doctor fit shoes? And also at one point he said to get our doctor on the phone and he would straighten him out. But, when I picked up my phone he backtracked on that statement. Now we get to the insole issues...They were WRONG! My husband said he could feel where they needed to have a cutout larger. The insole guy said that he had to make the cutout larger. I put it up to my husbands foot and the area was about a half inch off from where is should be. I suggested coloring the area in question and then placing her foot on the insole to see the difference..After arguing with us he finally agreed to let me try. Well the placement did show how much he was off the mark. He argued again finally throwing our prescriptions back at us and telling us to get out. So salesman 1 was demeaning to us and our Doctor. Insole guy was rude, did not know what he was doing at all and another bearded salesman was in the background making comments the whole time. Yes, I heard you!!! The only person not there that day was the owner...I bet they don't get away with this when he is there!!! The only person that was nice was the girl at the counter. My doctor referred me here for diabetic shoes. My sister drove me all the way there from Ocean City, and the staff here couldn't have been more rude. The salesman literally threw my insurance card and prescription right onto my lap and ran away mumbling something incoherent. The place was busy and I called him out, but my sister and I decided to leave. What a waste! This place isn't worth it. I've never been treated so rudely in a retail setting. My husband has dropped feet and wears braces on his legs and walks using a walker. The last pair of shoes he bought did not fit right and he needed shoes that he could safely wear. Carl's was recommended to us and I can't praise them enough! They took him, without an appointment, found a perfect shoe for him and adjusted the fit with pads. My family has been going to Carl shoe's since I was a child. Now, I take my children there. Yesterday we went for back to school shoes for my kids. To my surprise I found out that my son's arch collapsed. They had their Pedorthists come and speak with me. They educated me in everything about this and then told me what to do. Simple review. Went in to get the heels of my pumps repaired--the rubber tip on the bottom. Was concerned cause the rubber tip was beige (not black) and the leather was scraped near the bottom. They replaced it with beige rubber heel thingies and the back/bottom of my pumps looked brand new again!! Great service too!! Simple, quick, organized. read more

My Grandma used to take me here as a little girl so naturally I wanted to take my boys here. First time going back the salesman made fun the the shoes my boys were currently wearing....whatever no big deal let me give this place a second chance. Went back for some stride rite event and stood for 15 min before anyone asked me for help. I actually had to ask one of the three ladies just standing behind the counter if I'm supposed to take a number. Plus she didn't even really know what was going on for the "event". I think they do a good job with kids and appreciate the reminders when it's time to bring the little ones in for a new fitting. However -- the selection is quite limited, the prices are marked up over other stores, and they always try to convince me to buy shoes that are too big! Love this little shoe place . I went in to get some pretty expensive boots I have fixed . I had been using them with a broken heel and was ready to put them in the good will pile only after a few uses once the back heel broke .Im so glad I googled shoe repair shops and that I came across Carls. I was referred to Jeffrey (pedorthitist) at Carls by my orthopedic physician. This was after yrs of orthotics at podiatrists offices and pharmacies that could not alleviate my pain. Cons:. You DO have to make an appointment on Saturdays and on most days there are significant wait times. The selection of shoes is somewhat limited. The prices for shoes is generally higher than most retail stores. Pros: hands down the most knowledgeable staff for orthotics and fittings that I have found. After years of expensive orthotics that never alleviated my pain, Carl's was able to quickly identify and alleviate the issue. I would highly recommend for anyone with orthotic issues or diabetic footwear needs. read more

I have been a customer of Carl's Shoes since 1986. Carl Barone is excellent and the products are excellent as well. However, the customer service leaves much to be desired. For the prices paid for Carl's products and repair services it would seem only fitting to expect good customer service from all of Carl's employees. Unfortunately, customers with orthopedic or diabetic shoe requirements do not have many choices for shoes and shoe repair services. A recent visit to Carl's for shoe repairs left me with the same impression and opinion as I had from an earlier visit. Products are great but customer service is significantly lacking. If you are lucky enough to get Carl himself as your salesperson, your experience will be great. If you get anyone else you will be happy with the products but probably not the customer service. read more

Beings I have bad feet and always have. I decided to try Carl's shoes in Moorestown, N.J. because of its great name. What a mistake that was. The salesman was friendly. He measured my feet but did not have my width size at the time. He informed me to straighten out this problem I needed to go to a higher length size 11 instead of 10. This way the width would fit.. I did not believe this for one single minute ! Thats the typical shoe salesman, you never say that, never ! You will be tripping down a flight of stairs in no time. .. Plus my experience with these kinds of shoe stores. It is very very hard to get your money back once you purchase and leave theses kind of shoe stores. This once happened to me. Its no joke trust me. I spent at the time over $125.00 dollars for a pair of what was suppose to be a good support walking shoe. after 2 hours or so my feet and shins were killing me.Knowing it was the shoe causing this. i went back wanting my money back fully refunded. They would not give it back. Only after being very loud and nasty about it sad to say. They refunded my entire purchase. All these mom and pop stores no matter what item they sell. Are all the same. I have been buying shoes at Carl's since before 2009, and I keep going back. I have difficulty finding shoes that fit and are comfortable, and while Carl's selection is relatively small, I always find shoes there that fit me. The sales people who have served me have been uniformly helpful, with a degree of expertise in fitting shoes that is not equalled anywhere else I have gone recently. On each visit they measure your feet and help you put on and lace up the shoes you are trying. They don't just hand you a box of shoes and walk away. They will adjust shoes for you so they fit properly by applying little inserts or wedges. Their prices are high, but they do have sales a few times a year. They also give you a "Club Card". When you have bought 10 pairs of shoes you get your 11th pair free based on the average price of the previous 10 pairs; the card can be used by the whole family. There is convenient free parking behind the store. My only gripe is that their web site has very little information about the styles of shoes they have in the store at any given time. But I know which brands I like that fit me and are comfortable, and they always carry a good selection of those brands. In addition to shoes, they also sell socks, shoe care supplies and the like. You will not find high fashion shoes here nor anything with a high heel, but the shoes you get will be comfortable and will serve you well for a long time. What's not to like? read more
