A visit to Carl's Damaged Pet Warehouse is an amazing way to spend your day! We spent over 2 hours here on a Saturday morning and could have stayed longer if it hadn't gotten so warm. We bought $45 worth of fruits and veggies at the grocery store before coming, and we may have overdone it, but I wouldn't have had it any other way. There is a list of preferred foods (see photos) for you to bring and since I fancy myself a professional now, let me tell you what the animals like in my experience. The cows loved our watermelons! They also took other melons and pumpkin as well as zucchini and bell peppers. In true goat fashion, the goats ate everything except celery and apple. As a matter of fact, The only ones who would eat our celery were the donkeys and none of the animals wanted the apples, which I was shocked about. Maybe They were too sour or I bought the wrong kind. Even the horses declined the apples, but they could not get enough of our carrots. The turtle enjoyed lettuce and tomatoes and the pigs really liked the fresh lettuce but not much else made it to the poor guys because everyone else would snatch it up as soon as it hit the ground. If you can only get a few things, carrots and zucchini were probably the best all-around options. I hope that helps. But, if you don't have any groceries or the means to purchase them, you won't be left out. There is a box where people can leave extra groceries (like we did) and lots of children eagerly grabbed up everything that we left to feed to the animals. There is also a box for donations and we made sure to put something in there as well. This is a totally free attraction that is provided by the kindness of one person. Anyone can come at any time and meet these adorable animals. There had to have been at least 50 people here during the time we spent, maybe more. You can come and feed the animals or just show them some love. I highly encourage any and everyone to visit. Time spent here is good for the soul; it definitely was for mine!

I loved visiting Carl's Damaged Pets when I lived in Gilbert. This is a private residence that has a rescue farm in their backyard. Carl is amazing to share it with the community for free, but accepts donations (I highly encourage donating to help support costs of the food and caring for the animals). Each animal is so special here. I especially enjoyed the highland cows and the donkey. Swing on by if you're in the area and enjoy these providing some food to these rescue animals!

Finally decided to stop by and feed these cute animals! It was pretty busy when I stopped yesterday afternoon and many people were there also feeding them. I saw two turkeys, a rooster, ducks, goats, donkeys, a piggy, and a bull. *Free, just follow the posted rules

I visited this place twice over the weekend, and it turned out to be exactly what my heart needed. I recently lost one of my closest friends, and I've been trying to find anything that helps me feel grounded again. Spending time here just feeding the donkeys, goats, and cows was genuinely therapeutic. We brought romaine lettuce, apples (their absolute favorite, no question), carrots, and celery. Watching them get excited over the apples honestly made me smile for the first time in a while. Even the simple sounds the little kicks on the gate, the snorts, the eager munching brought me down to earth. I took my partner with me, too, and seeing him laughing and feeding the animals made the whole experience even better. This place is calm, welcoming, and clearly run with real care. If you need a reset, some comfort, or just want to see animals lose their minds over apples, this place is a gem. Solid five stars. Thank you!

Free fun animal rescue!! I came here with my sister and stopped by the store and bought carrots, zucchini and lettuce. The animals loved them and it was so much fun to feed them. I would recommend coming here if you're an animal lover.

Very fun! Thank you, Carl, for allowing the public to enjoy seeing your cute animals - it was such a great experience. It's very much like a small petting zoo, where you can get up close with the animals and interact with them. Be sure to bring fruits and vegetables. There were a lot of animals, including cows, donkeys, pigs, a tortoise, goats, and more. If you search online, it shows what you can and cannot feed the animals, which is helpful. The animals really seemed to love the carrots! Parking was easy, and the whole visit felt relaxed and family-friendly.

My son loves coming here to feed the goats. He's not too sure about the big cow yet but we all enjoy it. They look so happy sun bathing in the mornings.

Come on over and enjoy a free feeding and petting zoo. BYOB fruits/veggies. I personally recommend at Superstition Ranch Market where the produce is cheaper then most places. You can pet the animals and feed them. Tortoises, bulls, goats, donkey, turkeys and chickens is what we saw. So awesome. Thank you Carl for allowing the public to help love on these guys.

I took my 3 year old grandson here, and for a quick 20 minute drive and the attention span of a 3 year old, the price of admission was perfect. (free) We brought a bag of carrots, which wasn't really enough for the amount of animals here. For being "damaged" one thing that isn't is their appetite. Some others brought lettuce and peppers. The sign there says no grapes, raisins or garlic. (Why you would give garlic to a farm animal that already has stinky breath is beyond me) Anyway, if you're looking for a quick little free fun experience for your kids, this is probably the place. There's also a donation box if you're feeling generous. Next time we come back, we'll bring more food.

So awesome!! Carl was so nice and gave us a bucket of food to give to the animals! This was an amazing experience and a beautiful property!

This place is something free and fun to do with the kids! The animals are friendly and it's nice location where you don't have to worry about cars. It's a self-guided petting farm and you need to brung your own food for the animals. They do have a small donation box towards the shaded back patio. I recommend donating to keep this free activity going! My daughter loved the interaction with the animals! Would definitely return :)

As we approached the building (you can't go in it), the smell hit us and I thought, oh no, I've made a huge mistake. I think I was just there on a bad day or something, because I didn't see many reviews mention the smell at all. What smell? Raw sewage, very sulphur- and trash-like. I mean, it STUNK. It was strongest at the top overlook, right next to the building. As we went down the staircase to the lower level, the smell began to dissipate and eventually, to my nose, disappeared altogether. On the lower level, we saw the waterfalls. You can walk under/behind two of them and there are "seats" made of stone blocks in front of the third. The water was flowing pretty hard the day we visited, so the seats and all the pavement was wet and there was a slight mist coming off the middle one. The overall place is like a mixture of industrial and environmental architechture. There are metal-looking columns holding up the upper deck, yet the waterfalls look like they were copied from Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater, and there are large stones/rocks embedded into the walls everywhere. It sits on the edge of a small park with a decent sized lot and there are hiking paths. We only came for the falls, so I can't speak to the hike, but the area looked fairly nice. I'd like to see it at night as it looks pretty cool in pictures I've seen. If you're looking for something a little different to do or show your visitors from out of town, this is a neat place to go. Hopefully, the smell is a one off, but even if not, hold your breath and go down the stairs..... 13/2026

While there have been different people, different roles, and even different buildings, one consistency has been the "Her Secret is Patience" sculpture in the park. In fact, almost 13 years ago, I even did a photo shoot under the sculpture. The sculpture is in the Civic Space Park, where there is a nice, grassy area, some tables, and chairs right next to the US Post Office and ASU Student Center. I have seen groups of students and even community members holding events in the park either in front of the Student Center entrance at the tables and chairs (gatherings by students or staff), on the grassy lawn area (community members playing soccer, frisbee, or having a picnic), or even on the south side of the walkway (though the lighting wasn't very good in the evening in that area). "Her Secret Is Patience" is a public art sculpture commission designed by artist Janet Echelman for the City of Phoenix. The sculpture consists of painted, galvanized steel, polyester twine netting, and colored lights. It is 145 feet tall and suspended as an aerial sculpture. It is monumental yet soft, fixed in place but constantly in motion. It dances gently in the air, choreographed by the flux of desert winds. During the day, the sculpture hovers high above heads, treetops, and buildings. The sculpture creates what the artist calls "shadow drawings," which she says are inspired by Phoenix's cloud shadows that captivated her from the first site visit. At night, the illumination changes color gradually through the seasons. The goal in selecting the colors is to provide residents some small climate relief through color, adding cool hues in summer, and warm tones in winter. The lighting design also changes what portion of the sculpture is illuminated, leaving parts obscured in mystery, much like the phases of the moon. I've heard students and staff at ASU discussing how the artist was supposedly inspired by monsoon cloud formations and the shadows they cast, in addition to forms found in desert flora. Now that I work only a short walk away from the sculpture, I see it almost every day at work!

This is one of the most eye-catching pieces of public art that I have had the pleasure of seeing…read more It is located in the Civic Space Park and is the work of artist Janet Echelman who made the piece in 2009. Echelman got the name of the piece from a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson. It is constructed of painted, galvanized steel, polyester twine netting, and an assortment of ground mounted colored lights that give the nets its color. The piece is not cheap though and costed $2.5 million. The massive piece starts at 38 feet off the ground and extends to 100 feet in the air. To give it more perspective, the piece's largest ring is about 100 feet wide. The piece is intended to resemble a cumulus clouds. However, I see a tornado or jelly fish when I looked at it. It was given the title of Best Public Art by the Phoenix New Times. The wonderful mix of blue, orange and purple just draws you in like a moth to a flame. It is cool to visit during the day, but is amazing at night. The color of the piece changes constantly with the seasons throughout the year. The piece is not without its critics. Many people question the cost of the piece and whether that money could have been used elsewhere. Additionally, the piece's nets and lighting has to be replaced every five years, which makes this piece a gift that keeps on costing. It is unknown how much this periodic maintenance costs the city. This piece has metered street parking located within a reasonable walking distance, as well as commercial parking lots. There is also a train stop right in front of the piece, if you are plan on taking public transportation to get there. I really like this piece. It is a marvel, but I too am a critic of the price tag and reassuring maintenance fee. This piece can rally become the face of the city and one of its iconic images. It is very picturesque and Instagramable. Anyway, as with most public art that I have visited and reviewed, this is not a long stop. I was there less than 10 minutes. So, you may want to consider making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip. You can start with Civic Space park, where the piece is located.
