a table full of mexican food
    Summer G.

Wow! This place is amazing!! So happy my husband and I decided to come here for dinner when visiting for the weekend. The place was pretty busy but we still got a spot right away. The ambiance is super cool, lots of wood carvings throughout - on the chairs, tables, walls, etc. The authenticity of the restaurant is real and so vibrant. Our waiter was very nice and pleasant. Went out of his way to ensure we were happy with everything- from food, to drinks to the cleanliness of everything. He was very nice and accommodating. The food was extremely good too. I decided on the shrimp, chicken and beef fajitas that also came with avocado, beans, rice, sour cream and salsa. It was a lot of food!! We enjoyed ourselves and will be back to eat here when we visit the city again.

Hard-cooked taquitos with no cheese. Asked for cheese in them. Disappointing.

Came in on a Sunday, moderately packed. Not too bad and was seated immediately. Drinks order placed and brought out in less than 5 minutes, which was good. I ordered three tacos in flour shells with no cilantro, and my wife ordered Taquitos with beef and cheese added in. What I received was three corn tortillas, lots of green herbs, and disappointment. What my wife received were three taquitos with no cheese in the middle, hard like they were double deep fried (prepped in bulk, then finish-fried since there was no cheese in the middle), and lots of pico when asked for no pico. If the staff were having a bad day, I get it. But to mess up on the entire order is not good. Three stars for ambiance and kindness. 0 stars for food quality. Better to head to Taco Bell.

Busy place! We arrived & the front of restaurant was bursting with people waiting to be seated. We decided to eat @ the bat, no wait. Watched several flights of margaritas being served. Full menu ordering from the bar. Food was hot & tasty, but could have used a bit more heat or an option of mild, medium or hot. We added hot sauce to the salsa. Prices reasonable.

"Salsa" without any heat at all.

Stopped in for lunch even though I know better than to have Mexican food outside of Texas. The chips were fine. The "salsa" was basically just tomato sauce. When I asked for something with heat, I was told they charge extra for that salsa. (I've been here before and they haven't charged for the HOT salsa). Decided on the tacos pollo asado but was really disappointed they were absolutely covered in cilantro. Cilantro is one of this ingredients people either love or hate. If the plate is going to be covered in cilantro, the menu should indicate that. The rice tasted fine as did the beans, although the beans appeared to be from a can. The disappointing part was when the waiter left the rice & beans on the table while the kitchen made fresh tacos without the cilantro. Cold beans & rice aren't my favorite. The salsa that came with the tacos, was good and had nice heat to it. Exactly what I wanted with my chips.

I stopped here with my wife for the first time while traveling through Iorn Mountain, and I'm really glad that we did; the environment, service, and food were excellent. Everything we tried was delicious, but I am going to have to recommend the Philly cheesesteak burrito! I have never seen a Philly cheesesteak burrito on the menu at a Mexican restaurant before, so I decided to give it a try, and it was fantastic. The cheese sauce that covered the burrito was some of the best I have ever had. They also have a really good peach margarita. If you happen to be in the area and you love Mexican food, I recommend that you stop here.

    Tres Maria's

Another wonderful meal at Carlos Cantina. Tonight I had the Tres Maria's. Three enchiladas, one cheese, chicken and beef. Each enchilada has its own sauce; verde, red, and cheese. The red sauce is the hero of this plate. One of the most flavorful red enchilada sauces I have had. The verde was mild, and if you have read any of my other reviews, you know I love the queso. The enchiladas are served with lettuce, tomato, sour cream, guacamole, and rice. The chicken enchilada was shredded. I would say this is authentic, but next time, I will ask for the other chicken. It is soooo good. The beef one was ground beef. I was expecting shredded, but this was ok. Overall very pleased with the food selection tonight. The oddest thing about tonight was that I felt rushed, which is usually not the case here. Food was very fast, and hot, but as soon as I seemed to be done, my server removed my plate. Again, not the norm for this restaurant. However, I can appreciate efficiency, so maybe he thought he is doing the right thing. I just like to linger when eating alone.

Food is okay. Website doesn't work, no online ordering, not even a full menu on yelp... it's like they don't want business.

Oh, man. No? Nobody? Just me? Damnit. The silver lining? A wonderful breakfast meal and cheap to boot! Since I realized I'm part idiot (and not the good part), I decided to eat breakfast at my accidental restaurant. Mostly because I was already sitting in the booth and did NOT want to admit defeat. And boy howdy, am I glad I did! I ordered the French toast, eggs, and bacon. Two toasts, two eggs, and about three bacons. And a breakfast Coke (which is normal coke, but in the morning). First off, the eggs. I only eat scrambled eggs because I'm a child. Salt and pepper, then into my mouth. I don't like creamy scrambled eggs and I don't like scrambled eggs that get that weird skin on them for cooking too long. These ones were perfect. I garbled them down. My trick is to heavily salt and pepper them THEN cut them up and mix them together to disperse the seasoning. Eggs 10/10 The French toast? Perfect. Good size slices, a ball of butter on top (thankfully enough to spread over all four triangles), and a ramekin of syrup. They were the perfect portions. The FT (French toast) had the best sponginess and fluffiness. French Toast (FT) 10/10 Finally. The bacon. Look. I am a huss for bacon. I'll do some shady sh** for some good bacon. But I ain't going back to prison. I always ALWAYS request my bacon be floppy. Some places call it limp. I call mine floppy. Because I'm a professional. A lot of places struggle on what floppy should look like. I've had floppy bacon I could put through a plate glass window. I've broken a piece of floppy bacon on a table edge and shanked somebody (see prior prison comment). But here? This place? Sweetie pie, I could tie my shoes with this bacon it's so floppy. I could lasso a baby calf with this floppy a** bacon. If you don't believe me, I attached a photo of what floppy bacon should look like. Professional Floppy Bacon 12/10. I would also like to mention the Coke this place served was top tier. It's like it's chilled prior to coming out the fountain dispenser. It just went down SO smooth. Drink some. Also. It's a medium-quiet place. Family friendly. Has that down home look and feel.

10/10 recommend. We were driving through the UP, headed back to Milwaukee and planned on getting…read morefast food but decided to stop here instead - and it was a good choice! A true diner in every capacity and the portion sizes were HUGE - enough to feed two people for every meal. The food was good as well and we experienced good service.
