Similar to Kauai, I live in a state that banks big on tourism. Similar to Kauai, New Mexico is a place that doesn't sell out (define that as you may) and has a lot of cultural soul, historic pride and sly personality, as opposed to our neighboring southwestern states. Thus, the Locals know that our desert island is simply authentic. While the average tourist brings home a suitcase of dreamcatchers (most likely made in China) and moccasins (made in Minnesota), the best goods are produced by local artists. While I won't say By The Sea is a purveyor of strictly local finds, if you spend some time digging, you'll dig what you find around here. Shirts and hats are simply cooler than anything I'd seen anywhere else. I can't define cool, it just is, you'll know it when you see it. High quality products produced in America. Funny jabs and smart, proud merch. Just go. My wife got a baseball cap that looks straight outta the 80's, and I'm not ashamed to note that I remember that decade.

I drove to Kapa'a, Madison encouraged me to try it on for fit. It fit perfectly and these two women were so helpful and friendly! Great service, cute shirt.

I've noticed that a particular Reebok dry fit shirt seems to sell for $9.99 for any size, and have learned that it's great to take on trips (easy to hand wash, easy to rinse, quick drying). So noticed that they sold them here too and bought one. Also saw that a comparable Hurley shirt was around the same price, so got one of them too. Both will go into my trip clothing rotation. What's funny is that because the sales tax here is quite a bit lower than where we live (4.5% vs 10.5%), meant it was cheaper to buy it here than in Long Beach. And because of its proximity to the cruise port, there was a lot of new luggage on sale, with a lot of variety.

This location had a satisfactory selection of clothing, shoes, home goods, perfumes, electronics, snacks, luggage, and more. Inventory at Ross can sometimes be hit or miss, but this location definitely met expectations. I enjoyed browsing for cost-effective items to bring home. I successfully found a great handful of cute dresses/outfits (especially from the clearance rack), a couple of bottles of perfume, and shoes. A couple of areas were slightly disorganized, with merchandise on the floor, and the store was fairly busy with a bit of a wait. The staff members were friendly and helpful while working to ensure quick efficiency with the movement of the line. Overall, this Ross is worth stopping by for wonderfully affordable finds while in Līhuʻe.

The clothing prices are fairly expensive, but the quality of the fabric for both the Tori Richards and Pineapples pieces is very good. Great pricing on sterling silver jewelry, although I cannot speak to the value on the local pearls. The clothing had a nice range of sizes, although was somewhat lacking in women's size medium for some styles. I visited the shop three times over the course of a week-long stay nearby (my indecisive husband was picking out a shirt), and I did not experience the poor service highlighted in other reviews. Each time, the clerk welcomed us and was ready to answer any questions.
