It's in a very beautiful location and with the selection on this little half circle, Carette is the best place to be. pros: location, fancy people watching, lovely ambiance, free wifi (ask for a number and they give you a card), yummy desserts (not known for pastries like croissants but their little cakes and flan YUM!!!! Nothing like walking out and seeing the Eiffel Tower right in front of you! cons: it's pricey if you're on a budget... and even if you're not on a budget! for a place that is supposed to be fancy, i didn't like getting my coffee served in a tea pot, that was odd. On a recent visit to paris we were hindered ever so slightly by heavy and persistent October rainfall. When you're in paris, you just have to make the most of the weather, whatever it is, and it's certainly made a lot easier by outside terraces, covered awnings and big outdoor heaters which keep you warm as you watch the rain fall on the pavement. We stopped by this place on a rainy, rainy Saturday in October and managed to grab a seat for 6 outside on the terrace. Of course, being on place des Vosges, it is even more covered than most Parisian terraces, but the outdoor heaters kept us really warm too. I understand that the real estate cost of having an establishment in this square must be mighty high so was prepared for high, high prices - and the prices here are most definitely that. I noticed an option on the menu for hot drink plus your choice of nibble, such as a French brioche, or pain a chocolat. It wasn't easily noticeable or well advertised, but for 8 euros it was a steal compared to the rest of the menu! Our waiters were very nice and friendly and were only too happy to provide us with English menus to help make the ordering process easier for us. I am all for integrating into local cultures when travelling, I really am. I don't want to go where the tourists go, I want to go where the locals are, but sometimes when faced with a language barrier, it's good to have the comfort of little things like English language menus! (although to be honest, I'm quite happy to point and choose too...sometimes that's the most fun thing to do!) Anyway... the café latte I received was really lovely and plentiful, and the French brioche that I ordered was light and delicious and just the trick for a mid-afternoon break. Everyone else around the table was happy with their choice - my dad with his apple turnover especially (although he ordered this a la carte, so the size and cost was definitely a lot more!) A decent stop off point if you want a break whilst checking out place des Vosges, although I would imagine most of the places here are comparable. read more

I will say Carette is pretty pricey and pretty schmancy. However, in this location it feels right -- it's right on Place des Vosges, after all; this place was built with swanky in mind and the pristine preservation of the area still commands dignified behavior, and what's more dignified than sitting down for a cup of tea with a few macaron? Not much. I quite enjoyed sitting outside in the beauty of this petit cafe, watching the world float by and soaking up the French sunshine. The fact that they have free wifi for customers made my husband happy, and it didn't hurt that they have every possible flavor of macaron under the sun, either. After sampling several excellent breakfast cafes in the area , my family stumbled upon Carette when checking out another restaurant kitty corner to Carrette. The morning sun was too intense there so we moved to Carette. Upon surveying the menu, we were initially concerned with the prices. As it turns out, we were completely satisfied with the value once we placed our first fork into the delicate presentation of scrambled eggs with cheese and ham. This is what all eggs should taste like! At least 4-5 eggs we estimated in a portion fit for two, we will be splitting dishes on our next visit! I also order a side of roasted baby potatoes.... Perfection with the eggs and we split them with the five in our party and still didn't finish them. All of the little things were perfect - Prompt, friendly and continuous service, free WIFI codes, incredible coffee and pastries. They seem to specialize in pastries of artisan quality - (definitely Instagram worthy!) but we only had your basic Croissants and Brioche as starters... We will have to come back and try them! The neighborhood is also worth noting for loads of upscale galleries, shops, museums and discoveries...and the park across the street has lots of shade if it's hot out. All and all a great little jewel of a place if you can manage the cost. It's Paris after all - we came a long way to experience a special vibe and this is the type of place you can just soak it in. Sweet cafe that is nearly 100 years old, and is located next to one of the nicest small parks in Paris! Very french interior, and french menu. I ventured here for dessert and hot chocolate. We had the caramel, vanilla, and chocolate macarons, and the hot chocolate. The hot chocolate was creamy and abundant (I couldn't finish the whole carafe). My friend had two madelines, and he liked them! I would recommend coming here if you want to swing by the Place des Vosges or Maison Victor Hugo. I love the ambience of Carette, which is elegant and authentically Parisian...I truly don't feel like Carette is too touristic, as many other cafes are in Paris. The food is utterly divine.
