Perhaps... no? I mean, we ended up staying here because it was near Luray Caverns and conveniently located on the main road. However, if I could have a choice, I might've just rolled on by.... First of all, it's a motel, so I'm going to try to be fair here. I just am disappointed with the cleanliness of the hotel. We checked in and there were food crumbs scattered across the floor--- one of the crumbs even resembling a roach but I was too afraid to pick it up. The desk chair and desk were really sticky. The room itself, though listed as non-smoking, clearly had a smoker inside it before us... we had to keep the windows open at first! I gave an extra star because the internet was surprisingly more stable here than other hotels and also the shower head water pressure is pretty strong--- soo at least you'll feel clean/better about your stay? After staying at Hiltons for the entire trip we stopped here on a whim while traveling home from visiting Graceland. Requested connecting rooms and got them. Owners are super friendly. Awesome "retro" motel. Huge, clean rooms. 70's styled bathrooms. We loved our stay here and will definitely stay again in the future! read more

This motel looks pretty nice though dated on the outside if you are able to not notice the boarded up house across the street. Check in went smoothly and the man in the office seemed helpful. You have to initial that you will be charged for smoking or pets or something else which I can't recall. Then you get an actual key to your room. On the plus side, the room was well furnished. The bathroom was decent sized, the tub was small but adequate for a shower. There was a fridge with a small freezer which worked great; I did not use the microwave above the fridge. There was a list of restaurants nearby on the back of the entry door, many of them had closed or moved away, which shows the property was part of a bygone era. On the negative side, The switch by the door operated one recessed light at the other end of the room making the it seem gloomy. The flooring consisted of black and gray carpet tiles that I decided was to camouflage dirt. The bedspread was orange, perfect for fall but I got the feeling it was there year round and rarely laundered. I opened the drawer on the nightstand and saw a cockroach on his back flailing his legs. I met others during my stay in various stages of life. All that made me look forward to a shower. I turned on the water and pulled up on the diverter valve on the faucet and BOOM! The faucet shot off the little nub of pipe sticking out of the wall and water spewed out of the pipe. I had to leave around 7am and there was no one in the office but there was a mailbox outside labeled "key drop" so I left the key and a note about the shower and the bugs. I was not contacted by anyone from the motel, which shows me they just don't care. If I had smoked in the room (I'm a non smoker) I would have been charged $150 but I should have received $150 from the Cardinal Inn for the poor condition of the room. I hate to leave such a bad review of this business and I wouldn't if they contacted me and apologized and said they would take care of the problems I experienced - but they did not. read more

First thing first - we arrived and at the check-in the guy gave us the suite, so that was super cool of them to do. There's a lot of dining in a walking distance from the inn and three gas stations. The price of our room for two nights was super affordable. The room was very large and clean. Very nice spot between the caverns and Blue Ridge. Would definitely recommend. Just don't go to the Chinese restaurant that is recommended there, it's really bad. Also, could use a bit more lighting in the room. During nighttime there wasn't enough light from the three bulbs. During the day - there's sufficient light coming from the outside. read more

We stayed at the Cardinal Inn in June, 2018. I found the room to be adequate. A small room for sure, but clean, without odors, and possessing a fridge, microwave and TV. Free WiFI too. Bathroom is small, containing a shower only(no tub), and again clean. On my inspection(I always check this), no evidence of bugs at the headboard or between the mattress and box springs. The mattresses were just the right firmness for me and slept great. If they ever update, a different carpet would be welcome. read more

DON'T STAY HERE. I made a reservation (five months in advance) and upon reading some sketchy reviews elsewhere, decided to cancel three months in advance. Keep in mind, the cancellation policy was 24 hours, so I did this in AMPLE time. Well, they "couldn't find" my reservation and kept telling me to go online, which I did, but my reservation number was not recognized by the system. I called them on three separate occasions, after they told me to "try and call back", to no avail. I finally told the gentleman that he would not be allowed to bill my card when I didn't show up, to which he said, "yes I will." So I called my credit card company, warned them, and called Cardinal Inn to tell them that I had done so and that I would be calling the Better Business Bureau. All of a sudden, they found my reservation and cancelled it! Very interesting, don't you think? There are a dozen other places to stay in and around Luray. Just make sure it's not the Cardinal Inn. read more

My husband and I stayed here for one night on our way home from TN to NJ. We were a little sceptical after reading some reviews but we're very presently surprised by how attentive the owner was and how clean our room was. The bathrooms we're outdated but functional. As someone going through a bathroom renovation I understand that those tiles can only be taken out if you ripe everything out its time consuming and costly . Old and shabby place, not well maintained at all! Rooms are shabby and cables are hanging out of the ceiling. At night I heard critters run around inside the walls. This place is falling apart and needs a complete overhaul. Right now as it is, it is bad and overpriced. Bathroom was clean, but also very very old. I can't recommend. read more

I would give it NO stars if I could!! This place is the shittest hotel I have ever been in. All the rooms smell horribly of cigarettes even though it is "smoke free". We came in town for a wedding and this was just a awful experience. The rooms are dirty and the ceilings are falling in. The wi if is free of you stay outside of your sketchy as hell room. They moved us from one room to another and it was actually worse. It was just so disgusting!!!! The owner seems like the only person working there and he is a lying asshole. Crooked / Charged me twice ... Do not recommend you stay in the CARDINAL INN ( Luray ). The Indian gentleman at the front desk insisted that my Orbitz reservation was to hold the room only. Wi-Fi absolutely did not work and the wall sparked through the night. When asked about the double booking in the morning the same man twisted the story and offered no refund. Wanted to stay at a place between Massanutten and Old Rag mountain and figured this place would fit the bill. The place was no frills and a bit dated but the owner was friendly and we had no problems getting our room and didn't have any issues with the billing like some other Yelpers have had. We arrived a few hours early and the gentlemen at the check-in let us come in early (has never happened to us before!). The rooms are really nice and I LOVED the bathroom was kept in the retro style. It is what it is for the lowest price close to the Thorton Gap park entrance. I checked in fairly late and the guy at the front desk was nice and I got my room right away. It is a bit worn down but I didn't see any bugs in the room and other than the shower it was clean, had temperature control and password protected wifi access. Starting with five stars for what I expected for the price, I had to remove some stars because there was hair in the shower which grosses me out no matter the rate. read more

I am currently staying in another Hotel in the Luray, area. We saw The Cardinal Inn few days ago and went there but there was nobody in the lobby. We called several times and nobody was answering the phone, we called at different times. Finally today, we went to the Cardinal Inn to see if finally somebody was there to check people and finally there was a woman at the front desk , when she was told we were trying to contact the hotel her only answer was " Well, you got us" which is considered very rude and uneducated. I will not stay in a hotel where the staff has bad attitudes and is not available if there is problem in the hotel. There are other hotels in the area with much better staff and better location and also good price. Make sure you have cash in hand, a lot of places don't have ATM's including supermarkets, and some local dinners don't accept debit cards or checks, but the home cooking food is good. I don't want to give a star to the Cardinal Inn because of the bad attitudes of the person working at the front desk, the answer of that woman says the kind of treatment you will get. read more
