The place was lovely- The kitchen had everything, I definitely used the fireplace more than once, we loved reading in the living room, the bed and sheets were comfy, the bathroom was bright. The cottages (there are 4 to choose from) are well appointed with everything you need and lack exactly what you don't need in a place like this (phone, tv, or internet). The cottages are in Dyke, VA about 20 minutes from Skyline Drive so it's very easy access for hiking. It's about 45 minutes to Charlottesville where you can shop for groceries, go to dinner, or just hang out if you need to reconnect with the city. The cabins have jacuzzi's, full kitchens, grills, backyards with fire pits, indoor fireplaces and board games. They also have a salt water pool in the main house that you can use (and I recommend after a hike!). Personal touches make this place what it is: they've thought of everything. We also loved the fresh cookies that were dropped off at our house and Chuck and Stew always write us personal notes to welcome us to the house. Looking for privacy? The cabins are secluded and you enter them via a keypad on the door so you don't have to check in or out...just come and go as you wish. I highly recommend this place! And will be back in the fall.

We rode horses on the ranch, Francisca was the sweetest guide & really made the experience. Our dogs loved walking along the property watching the long horns, cows, & sheep. The sunrise was absolutely stunning from the rocking chairs on the porch. Cute cowboy aesthetic! Everything was clean & tidy. The extra paper towels, soaps, and trash bags came in handy. Such a sweet extra amenity. Celena & Susan were so kind and responsive. We met afew of the other staff along the property and they were all so sweet and courteous as well. The wedding venue looks amazing!! Can't wait to come back!! Thank you so much for having us!!

They were so accommodating to book a same day appointment for me and my date. We arrived like 30 minutes early so we got to sign the forms and walk around the ranch. The property is beautiful I wish we could have stayed in one of the cabins. My horse outlaw was the sweetest. This wasn't my first time riding but even if it was anyone could ride him. I enjoyed the trail ride throughly I wanted it to last another hour it was so peaceful! Between the instructor & my man we got great pictures and an unforgettable experience.

They refurbished the old lockhouses which were once occupied by lock keepers who worked 24 hours around the clock to open the locks for boats and small barges. Three lockhouses are available to rent, lockhouse 6 is the only one with running water , electricity and heat (a necessity for MD winters). Bring food to cook, blankets, and linens- the rest is there for you to enjoy. It was a wonderful experience. The house was immaculate, cozy and clean. It sleeps 8, with two bedrooms upstairs (two twin beds in each) and a comfy pull out sofa in the living room on the middle level. The bathroom (equipped with full shower/tub) was in the basement- the stone walls provided little insulation and became uncomfortably cold during trips down there and before and after showers. The Lockhouse provided all the amenities of home including coffee makers, pots, pans, dishes, cleaning supplies, refrigerator, stove, oven, etc. Maps, books, and photographs from the era decorated the house and the beautiful winter scenery of the Potomac River provided landscape. The Lockhouses can be rented as pit stops for bikers and hikers making their way down the C&O canal from Pittsburg. They can be rented for romantic getaways or surprise birthdays and bachelorette parties. Lockhouse 6 is only a stones throw from Georgetown on Clara Barton Parkway, so it's close to the city for a night (or two) out.

This B&B is located right in the heart of Harper's Ferry, giving walking access to stores, restaurants, and historic sights. I came across the same clip in a rail safety ad, which made me look up directions to Harpers Ferry from DC. The historic park/town is served by the very MARC trains that pass outside my DC window each afternoon. You can describe Harpers Ferry as *deceptively* close because it's a 90 minute train ride, with planes flying into Dulles close enough to make out the airline. Looking for hotels there, Stonehouse Bed & Breakfast was the first that came up, with great reviews. Chris was very helpful and responsive via text and email. I booked the Top Room, which was $170 for a night including taxes. The quaint B&B has three accessible floors, as the family naturally lives onsite. The first floor is the main entrance with the common/dining areas, and the patio overlooking Maryland Heights and the Potomac/Shenandoah Rivers. The second floor has more rooms, one with a full balcony. And the third floor is the Top Room, with windows overlooking each side of the vintage building. If you Google pictures of Harpers Ferry, Stonehouse is in nearly all of the shots, since the balconies are front and center of the skyline. The town itself is like a real life snow globe. But the B&B, the litany of museums, eateries and shoppes around it, as well as the train station directly across the street make it an overall ideal place to stay, be it for hiking, or for something else: A love of trains is what brought me to Stonehouse, so take note that rail traffic can be heavy in certain times of the day. But the light rumbles also helped put me to sleep in the already soft, cozy bed. A container of water was provided, and while glasses should have been cleaned of dust first, it was still a really nice touch. The room also had playing cards, ear plugs, plenty books and a whole lounge chair. Checkin was a simple set of instructions at the door with my name on it, with checkout simply being your absence at the appropriate time. In my case, I only booked an overnight stay, getting in at 8pm and leaving around 6:30am, with checkout/checkin being the traditional 11am/4pm. While I didn't stay for complementary breakfast, I did catch a stellar sunrise between the mountains, as well as nature footage from the neighboring park. All of that to say, I definitely look to return to Stonehouse B&B later this year.

The private hot tub and fire pit were awesome and we used both. We wanted a cozy getaway and that's definitely what we got. The only downsides were that the fire pit solo stove didn't have a lid to help it go out so we had to wait outside longer than we planned until it went out and there were a good amount of bugs (expected in the area the cabin is but it was still a lot). The views and our overall experience at the cabin was exactly what we were hoping for so we will definitely be back! We were near plenty of places in a nearby town for meals and groceries and our goal was to complete the Old Rag hike and we were close enough to do it! :)

We stayed in Cabin #8. The privacy is on point. The hottub and the swing, perfect! We did some grocery shopping to make our meals on site. They also had a small grill. The washer and dryer in the cabin made a huge difference because we went hiking a couple times and it was hot out! The only thing that threw me for a loop was their small pond. It looked amazing in photos but in person it was a small pond with rocks and gravel. But everything else was wonderful! You can go offsite to see beautiful waterfalls etc. There is a community rec center across the street with a large pool. We stopped in to see it. Staff there was informative and friendly. So if you wanted to hop out of the Hawksbill gate and go across the street you can enjoy the pool!
