This experience felt extremely shady. Cardinal Camera sold me a Sony 400-800mm f/6.3-8 lens that turned out to be a bad copy. There were no scratches, dents, or any physical wear whatsoever -- the issue was purely optical, which you can only discover by actually using the lens. After informing them of the issue, I was told I would be charged a 15% restocking fee for returning it. That is unacceptable when the product itself is defective in performance. What makes this worse: this lens is not even listed on their website, the normal retail price is $3,298, yet they immediately accepted my $2,750 offer on greentoe without even counter offer. Combined with the restocking fee policy, this creates the strong impression that they knowingly move bad copies at a discount and then profit again by charging restocking fees when customers inevitably return them. This feels less like customer service and more like a business model designed to extract money from returns. Scam me this way and let's see what my credit card company says. read more

Ordered a Sony A7iv through their shop on Amazon as a birthday present yesterday. The package arrived and was missing the camera body, lens, filters, batteries, chargers... the person who responded was rude and said I am at home now. Well I was trying to celebrate a birthday. He eventually said he would find out where the camera was and never heard back from him. They made a profit and won't help in the situation. I have no proof they shipped the camera. I ordered Tamron lens for Sony E mount through Greentoe. The item was shipped and received within a day. But guess what it was a defective piece. Connected with Greentoe team through email. They looped in Kurt from cardinal cameras. even after sending multiple emails he didn't respond. I have manged to return the item and still haven't received the refund. I have filed a dispute with my credit card company. Cardinal cameras might have known well ahead of time about the defective nature of the lens and shipped it inspite of that. Stay away from Greentoe and Cardinal Cameras. Possible scam and fraud. read more

First, I've had a great experience with Cardinal. I've spent upwards of 25k with them over the past month and a half. All the gear has looked flawless and functioned properly. I had quite a few instances where I was quoted a price (where they could give me a discount) and my CC declined it due to suspicious fraud. A 13k lens is going to concern many good CC companies. It took a few days to resolve and the owner personally texted me that I can reach out in the future directly and they still honored the prices where allowed. Might some of these items have been opened previously?? Maybe, but where do you think all the gear goes that is sent back, no questions asked, to b/h or adora? If it's in brand new condition as deemed by Cardinal it's brand new to me. The return policy is 7 days now, brand new or potential decline or restocking fee if opened or outside the 7 days, when you buy something, know these policies. Even if you didn't touch it for a few weeks then found out it wasn't functional it's at Cardinals discretion as you are out of the window. Do I think that's a short window? Yes but I buy knowing the risks and play by their rules. If I don't like it I can go elsewhere. So far they have treated me excellent. The other reason I am leaving this review is due to the relatively low rating which I was surprised to see. It's a handful of 1 star reviews sprinkled in over the last decade. Why do the big NYC retailers have such higher ratings and so many more of them? They hound you through multiple emails to review them as an "entry" for a $300-500 sweepstakes. That's dishonest in my opinion because in general other than food establishments people usually hop on to review only negative experiences. A chance to win a $500 credit when I wasn't gonna leave a review? Hell yeah I'll take a minute to write a 5 star review. Cardinal wouldn't have multiple locations and a solid customer base if they were consistently "as bad" as the one star reviews on here make it seem. Again, know the retailer's policies, ask questions if you aren't sure, once you are out of any windows it's the manufacturer warranty. If you are using a third party platform, that's at your own risk and accept those risks. I'll continue shopping here with Kurt and his team as they have done right by me and when they can, they always beat my main go to in NYC. read more

I'd been looking for a camera that is super hard to find (Fujifilm X100VI), and everywhere near me either had it as out of stock or waitlisted, but refused to give me any kind of estimate as to when it might be available. Great spot with helpful staff - we got our film purchased + developed here (prints + digital) with zero issues and also got some great pointers along the way. 2024 Update: when we purchased our first camera as people new to cameras, Shane and Kurt helped us to pick the right camera body for us (a Canon EOS R10) while guiding us to the right lenses (full frame platform lenses) that would grow with us if we decided to upgrade in the future. Two years later, we were back to purchase a full frame camera body and Shane and Kurt helped us to understand the options and learn the new body. Their advice saved us a significant amount of money not having to sell our current lenses and buy all new ones. These are good people, whether you are an amateur or a long time professional. They have won a customer for life and will be giving referrals to them every chance I get. I went in with every intention of replacing my wife's camera which I thought was just old and breaking down. Shane walked me through the next generation of cameras and gave a few suggestions based on our needs. He said that before I buy anything he would like to look at my old camera. Shane immediately found the problem and fixed it, sold me a new memory card and sent me on my way. Honesty like that is unbelievably rare. There is NO chance I would ever buy a camera from anyone other than Cardinal, specifically Shane. I am still in disbelief that I went in with full intention of buying a new camera and Shane was compelled to do the right thing. I had nine hours of VHS tapes converted to digital and received only three hours in two DVDs and paid fifty dollars. I purchased a 'Clearclick' video to digital device and borrowed a VCR and saw that I had six more hours of video to be converted. I would not recommend Cardinal Camera for converting video tapes to digital. I'm sure they maybe good for other services related to cameras and equipment. read more

Based on all the negative reviews, I'm not sure if I've just been lucky but I've had nothing but great experiences purchasing items from Cardinal Camera via offers made on Greentoe.com. (1) Canon RP (purchased 2019) - received the item within 1.5 weeks of my offer. However they forgot to include the EF to RF mount adapter. I contacted them about it and they apologized and I received the mount adapter a week later. (2) Canon RF 15-35mm 2.8 (purchased Feb 2021) - got an amazing deal on this lens with my offer but was worried that it was too good of a deal and that I would get a grey market or used lens. Fortunately, I the lens arrived in 4 business days and it was brand new! Very happy with this purchase! Anyhow, just though I should share my positive experiences with Greentoe and Cardinal Camera since they helped me save a good chunk of money for awesome brand new gear. read more

One of the worst camera store experiences ever!! Please read full review before you visit this store. I wanted to give 5 star ratings for my initial visit to Cardinal Camera. everyone was so nice (when I was purchasing $13,000 lens). I worked with Shane and owner (Kurt). That day, I would have recommended this place to everyone. On the day of purchase, when I noticed box was re-sealed on bottom and I asked Kurt for assurance, He said not to worry and he will take care of it, if there are any issues. Things quickly changed when I tested my Canon RF 600 f4 lens and found out, it was having some problems. I took it back to the store and explained the situation. Took my own laptop and SD Card to show them what was the issue. Pictures were blurry and in video you can clearly see lens was having an issue with focus. Shane was very professional and helpful but owner came out and started screaming and yelling at me. He said he won't refund me or won't exchange. He did not even look at the pictures or video. I walked out of the store with my lens. I do not deserve to be treated like this after spending 13k!! Later that day, i got a text from Kurt (owner), he wanted to apologize for his earlier behavior. Then he told me, he was stuck with some emergency and will text me later. I have not heard back for two days so i finally texted him and he asked me to take this lens to Canon facility and have it checked. I asked, why do i need to go through that hassle when my lens was purchased from his store. I had proof of lens being defective which i demonstrated to his employee Shane. They had every opportunity to test this lens while i was in store. He kept on saying lens is not defective, how does he know if he hasn't tested it? (again, they had every opportunity to test when i went back to the store with lens) I am within my return timeframe but Kurt doesn't think so and tried to change return policy. On their website it clearly stated that return policy is 15 days as of 2-23-22 but he has now changed it as of 2-25-22 and told me 7 days. Then he tells me lens is used because it has been taken out of the box, but without taking it out and testing.... how am i supposed to know if lens was defective? I purchased a Sony A7 iii DSLR camera and have enjoyed just about every minute of using it. The staff at Cardinal Lansdale is super helpful, they sell at reasonable prices and have many sales tied into store activities with Manufacturer's. Cardinal Camera is no longer a viable option for photography gear. They never have anything in stock, and only carry the garbage gear anymore, and their service ranges from sub-par to rude. I'm a long term Nikon user. I Went in to get a Nikon D750, they didn't have it so instead they wasted my time trying to get me to buy a Sony Mirrorless, which doesn't work with any of my current gear. I declined and ordered it, they said two days but never called me, I had to go in and ask a second time till they finally ordered it. They never even apologized. A week later I went into get a Nikon 50mm f1.4 for a job I was doing, of course, they didn't have it and instead tried to sell me the inferior 50mm f1.8 which is not even close to the same. Two weeks later I went in to get the Sigma 85mm f1.4 Art lense and they didn't have it, instead they try to sell me the Sigma 135mm f1.8. Well I fell for the scam, I believed all the slick sales pitch he through at me. I spent 1399 for the lense, and it is not a very versatile lense so I bought the 85mm from amazon who sent it to me the next day. When I got back I tried to return the 135mm to exchange it for a new sigma 24-70mm f2.8 and he said he could only give me $800, because I was past the 15 day return policy. I explained I hadn't even used it, and there was no damage or wear, in my mind it is still a brand new lense. I paid $1399 and he offers $800 that is insane, it was a slap in the face. Then when I refused he got rude with me telling me why he doesn't owe me anything. I also tried to buy the Nikon 70mm-200mm f2.8 and they didn't have it, and tried to sell me a used model which I fell for. It isn't the lense I was looking for it is the old version. I'm done being swindled and treated rudely by Cardinal Camera, I am a good customer and I tried to support a local business. Amazon is cheaper, quicker and has a 90 day return policy and honestly they have never been rude to me. I am done with Cardinal, save yourself the headache and buy it online from a more reputable company. read more
