We had my firm's Christmas party here. Everything was perfect, food, service and atmosphere. We were treated like royalty, like we were the only diners at the restaurant. We ordered a variety of food, which was all prepared to perfection, from tenderloin medallions to pasta with Sunday sauce. Our waitress, Liz did an amazing job. No drink glasses were left empty and she served with us a big smile at all times. She treated us like we were guests in her home. We are new to the area and wanted to scope out some local spots for dinner. Overall, the Atmosphere is very nice. Our server was extremely nice and accommodating. She made great recommendations for our drinks. However, the portions are very small for the price. Only Two meatballs come as the appetizer. Their red sauce is very good though. I ordered a salad for my meal with grilled chicken. And for $20, it came on a tiny little plate. It was delicious, but not enough. The chicken was also extremely oily and salty I was not able to eat it. My partner got a special which was a bunch of seafood. He said the pasta was rubbery and the lobster was dry and looked like it was missing a good chunk of meat from it since it was cut open before coming to the table. And it just looked over cooked. Maybe we caught them on a bad night. But I don't think we'll be eager to come back here. read more

Carbone's Kitchen is my favorite out of all of the Carbone's restaurants. I like the atmosphere, and the food is always so yummy!! Tonight my husband and I had the Sunday 4-course family style dinner. It was a choice between 2 apps, 2 salads, 2 chicken dishes, penne with meatballs, and tiramisu, all served family style for $24 per person. We chose the eggplant fries, Caesar salad, and chicken Marsala. We loved all of it!! The best part was that we had almost half left over to bring home for another night. The service was quick and friendly. We got 2 rounds of bread without even requesting it. Carbone's is the best Italian around, and we always leave satisfied. Five stars without question!! read more

I had the 3 course special- Cesar salad, chicken parmigiana entire, and a scoop of caramel ice cream for desert. The best part about the meal was that it was authentic. My daughter in law made reservations a couple of weeks ago for my son's birthday, she mentioned it was for six adults and two children and will be needing two high chairs. When we got the host/maitre d made a smart comment are you going to need a high chair? She said two please, he proceeded to say oh this looks like a Chunky Cheese! It was rude. Honestly it look more like a senior restaurant. The food and service was mediocre. You probably could get a better burger at McDonald's, the pasta was not al dente. The kids chicken tenders and fries were better than all our entrees because it came frozen and thrown in the deep fryer. The service was awful. We cleared are own table, like you do at a buffet , the staff was not attentive. Quality of food was disappointing! I came here for a work lunch. The space is huge, and the seats are comfortable. This is definitely a great spot for a power lunch, family meal, or catch up with a friend. The prices are definitely reasonable. There are lots of options on the menu. I went for a half pizza - nice option - and half salad, but I wasn't blown away. It was probably my own mistake. Grilled chicken pizza and half house salad were ok. It seems like the pastas are definitely the thing to try next time, as they were fresh and had many different varieties. My colleagues, who had the chicken parm, said it was very good. It sounds like I need to come back and try their food again! read more

Don't sleep on the family style takeout options - they're such a treat! About a month ago, my husband and I swung by Carbone's Kitchen to take advantage of their curbside pickup. We ordered rigatoni bolognese with fresh ricotta which serves 2 and comes with Caesar salad and warm crusty garlic bread. The pasta was incredible, Caesar dressing DELICIOUS and if you want your car to smell like a dream, go for the garlic bread alone. For $29, it was a great deal. Taking a quick look at their menu, I see they've expanded the takeout options quite a bit over the last month and there's really something for everyone. Woodfired specialty pizzas, simply prepared proteins, grinders, burgers, desserts - they're all there. Highly recommend paying them a visit. read more

Excellent business lunch catering for a meeting I hosted!! Paul and crew took care of me when I needed sandwiches and salads for 12 people. They hooked me up! We chose from crispy chicken, chicken parm, italian combo, turkey wrap, wedge salad, harvest salad and house salad. They were all delish (my guests raved!) there were leftovers and everyone left full and happy. I've dined in here before as well. Carbone's Kitchen is one of my favorite place for dining in as well as for Happy Hour. The staff's are very welcoming and friendly, the ambience is neat and classy, the food is great and a full bar where you can pretty much get any drink. My coworkers and I come here often for the HH. They have a great appitezer menu during the happy hour and trust me, you can never make a bad choice; they are all so good. The waitress at the bar who took our order during one of the HH visits (i don't know her name, sorry) made us a drink based on what we said we like (Grey Goose Pear vodka, St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur with a splash of seltzer water) was so good and refreshing. Since that visit, whenever we've gone back, she always knew what we'd like. This goes a long way on how much they know their guests. One of the best Italian restaurants around and they have some great authentic options to choose from. Hands down this is one of my favorite place to go and I highly recommend Carbone's. read more

My friends and I came here for lunch on a Tuesday. We were greeted nicely and tended to quickly by the staff who were very welcoming. My friends have previously eaten here and it was my first time. I would definitely go back again. Our waitress was very helpful in creating an order that accommodated my gluten free friends needs, as well as mine being so I prefer Alfredo over marina (marinara was only on the lunch menu). The food was delicious and the service was great. Except for when the waitress seemed a little annoyed when we asked for more bread, a to go box and when we asked questions about some menu options. Carbones has a very romantic ambiance and a welcoming atmosphere. It is great for a date night or even casual lunches like ours . It was very well priced. If you want to go and don't know what to try, Definitely try the fettuccine Alfredo! read more

Brought my niece and husband here for dinner last night and it did not disappoint. Friendly and attentive staff and wonderfully prepared dishes. The salmon was cooked as ordered and delicious, the scallops risotto and gnocchi were also very good and the portobello mushroom dish tasted as lovely as it looked. We will be back soon. read more

We went here Thursday night for happy hour. we arrived around 3:00 PM and started with drinks. Over the next 3 hours we had 6 happy hour dishes and 3 rounds of drinks plus dessert. A few minutes after our check arrived we were approached by a man who asked if we had enjoyed ourselves and we saId that we had. He proceeded to tell us he had reservations waiting for our booth in the bar area. I turned around to see if all the booths were full and there were two empty booths. So......why were we being asked to leave. We had spent $160.00 and it was pretty insulting to be asked to leave. We are in our 70's and not rowdy young people. The food was excellent, the drinks were excellent, but this event put a real damper on the whole evening. I have never in my life been asked to leave a restaurant before. I will pass this on to friends. It was a disapppointing end to an otherwise very nice evening. read more

The ubiquitous acquiescence to our baser instances, the childish reversion to tribalism, the horrifying twin spectacles of self-loathing juvenile puppet-masters and elderly self-loathing sycophants colluding across the Capitol District to drive the USA back to a time when Mexico was bigger, richer, better-educated and more cosmopolitan than us... if time travel were possible I'd be torn between going backwards to the days when small-holding farms meant abundant game birds across New England and a trip three generations into the future to learn where my great-great grandchildren have gone to escape the decline of this once-proud nation. Don't blame the orange monster for all this, he's a symptom not the cause. We need to look in the mirror to understand the mess we're getting ourselves into. And that is why the food and take-out service at Carbone's in Bloomfield is so nourishing to body and soul. Anything they make with polenta is sublime, my son swears by the rigatoni bolognese, and their thin-crust pizza scratches the itch started decades ago by forni al legno in Liguria and Campania. Like Verdile's in Troy NY, it goes beyond soul-food status to must-have survival equipment: finding any spot of joy in this dark time is cause for celebration, to paraphrase a close friend and connoisseur of all eateries in the greater Hartford region. Disclaimer, I've never eaten-in there, but plan to do just that soon as two weeks past my second vaccine have elapsed. May I suggest that you emulate me and first do take-out, then once it's safe get in there for a sit-down meal and throw some love back in their direction. In between the half-empty strip mall stores and slightly seedy liquor store, adjacent to the potholed parking lot, on the backside of an already-nondescript commercial center... you will find your little bit of joy. read more

Was really excited to try this place since I've heard great things and have been looking for a go-to Italian restaurant in Bloomfield. A few friends and I went here for dinner last night. For starters, I will say I loved the ambience of the restaurant. It was dimly lit with comfortable booths and a calm atmosphere. We were sat immediately, but it wasn't too crowded for a Tuesday evening. We placed our drink and food orders. Pizza/chicken parm and a few appetizers. I will say this is the first Italian restaurant I've been to where we had to ask for bread/olive oil to get us started, which I found a little annoying given the prices. We started off with Caesar salads and Arancini, both of which were delicious. The two pizzas come out for dinner and I sat patiently waiting for my chicken parm. About 10 minutes goes by, and it still hasn't been brought out. I asked our server and he forgot to put it in in the first place. My friends were basically finished by the time I got my meal. And when it came out, it was with the wrong kind of pasta. He did take it off the bill, which was the right thing to do, but it was still a frustrating first experience. We have been thinking about trying Carbone's Kitchen for awhile but it was always so crowded we couldn't get in. We finally went and were very disappointed. The first thing you should know is that this a family restaurant. If you are looking for a quiet place where you can hear the person you are with talking, this is not the place. The acoustics are poor and the multiple patrons with crying infants made it difficult to have a conversation. They brought us warm bread with a sun-dried tomato - anchovy dip while we waiting for our meal. I found this unusual given the potential for allergic reaction to anchovies. Coincidentally when our waitress described the nightly specials we told her that I was allergic to seafood and would pass on the specials both of which were seafood. Had our waitress not remembered our comments about my allergy and told us there were anchovies in the dip, my husband may have been running out to the car for my epee pen. Our waitress brought us olive oil for our bread. We both ordered the chicken parmigiana and were disappointed. The chicken cutlets were a little over done and were only partially covered with sauce which made them dry. I don't like my chicken parmigiana smothered in sauce but I do want the cutlet moist and not dry. The side of pasta that came with the chicken parmigiana was also sparsely covered with sauce no matter how well I mixed the penne in the bowl. The best part of our dining experience at Carbone's Kitchen was our waitress, Gabby. She was attentive, very pleasant and knew her wine list. Despite Gabby's excellent service we will not be returning to this restaurant. It is not the Carbone's I remember from Hartford's South End. read more

My son was in the mood for pasta and it's difficult with gluten and dairy allergies. The lovely server worked with the chef to recommend a dish that he absolutely loved to celebrate his 30th birthday. I had the tuna special and have to say it was Michelin worthy. The "beef caesar salad" should clarify that they meant a minuscule pile of roast beef, instead of "pepper-crusted beef tenderloin" like the description says on the menu. Extremely dissatisfied. When the manager is too embarrassed to come over and apologize because it takes 20 min to get bar service and another 45 and still no food....... I used to come here for happy hour and dinner but no more. What happened? Even our bar seat neighbors were dying it was unacceptable. We saw a glass break behind the bar and the solution was to cover it up with a cloth napkin........only got to taste the beef carpaccio which was good. Everything you would expext from the Carbones family of restaurants. Ate there on Thu 10/25/18 for dinner. Ive been to Carbones Prime numerous times and have reviewed them. So when my "out of town/state" boss asked me to atrange a group dinner for our team it was an easy decision as our "off site" all day meeting was close by Carbones Kitchen. First, the easy stuff. Its easy to find, accessible, has plenty of parking! Check! Big double door, welcoming appearance, beautiful decor, spacious with separate dining areas that are roomy but comfortable and intimate for a couple or a small group like ours and could even accomodate a large group. The atmospheres is done well in dark woods giving a sense that it has been around longer than it has. Kinda staunch yet still casual and very comfortable. We met up at 4:30 and there were very few people there. Within 30 minutes the bar and restaurant filled up steadily. There was a nice buzz of sound and conversation as the pace picked up. Now for service. Very Nice to say that we were not rushed. Our waiter (Italian Accent I think) added to the experience and was very good. Not over the top or too formal but just casual and on point. Let us sit and talk for a while. Snuck in and asked about cocktails, quietly and unobtrusively delivered them all. Water glasses filled the entire time without ever interrupting our business discussion. Swept in and took orders, then delivered food with a well thought out pace. This is NOT a fast food chain .45 min experience but one more reminiscent of a dining experience you might find in Europe. Finally the food. Amazing! Portions are perfectly designed. A slight twist on classic favorities like carbonara. The artisinal cheese plate was very similar to the one I get at Prime and I was glad to see that because I mentioned in their review that is prob the best cheese plate in the state. Nice to see it here too! We all had different dishes and everyone was delicous and well prepared. My Boss asked for two "half-portions" dinners because she couldnt decide and wanted to try both. No Problem the waiter said. Done! All in all, great expereince, amazing food, comfortable environment, a must stop for any time. I will be stopping back for HH and to sit at the beautiful bar. Looked like a good crowd enjoying themselves in there all night I noticed as I peeked over throughout dinner. I will definitely be going there more and more! I am not posting any pictures for two reasons. First, this was a work dinner so snapping pics pf my colleagues food would have been awkward and they may not have wanted to have been reviewed. After watching the Godfather on a lazy Sunday, Italian food was a must for dinner! Looking for something a little different than our usual West Hartford choices, we went to Carbone's. First note: get the garlic ciabatta bread, people! It wa crispy and not too cheesy. The beer and wine choices were aplenty and it was nice to have some Avery's soda options for my son. My husband went with the traditional Linguini and Meatballs. Pasta, sauce and meatballs were delicious. The meatballs were giant! I hemmed and hawed on whether to get a salad with scallops or a simply grilled salmon, but in the end I decided on the Chicken Passaro. This was the right choice and gluten free! The white balsamic reduction tasted very much like a marsala sauce to me. It was so delicious! The sauce had dried cherries, cranberries, port. They easily accommodated my request to replace polenta with the roasted sweet potato. And they do offer a kids menu so that they can have smaller portions of pasta for about half the price (chicken or pizza also available). Speaking of pizza, the table next to us ordered one and it looked so good. Thin, crispy, a little burnt on the edge. We will be back to try it! On the disappointing side, nobody told us the bottles of wine are half price on Sundays. I was just on their website and found out! The waiter should have shared that, especially considering I ordered 2 glasses. I could have had a bottle for that price and taken the rest home. read more

I attended a Gnocchi making Yelp event at the restaurant some months ago and was completely impressed with the flavor and quality of the appetizers that were served that evening and vowed I would return. As I write this, I am contemplating my next visit which might very well be this Sunday to experience there three course $23.95 pasta special assuming they will be open on Memorial Day. read more

Carbone's Kitchen's Sunday Night Supper is the best deal in town--in the whole Windsor, Farmington, Simsbury area, even. (I've heard that Wintonbury plaza got its name from a combination of those three town names). For $24 a person, you get arancini, salad, three entrees (meatballs, penne, and chicken marsala), and tiramisu served family style. It's a lot of food--and it's all good. The arancini, meatballs, and tiramisu were probably the highlights. My only suggestion to the kitchen would be to provide a bigger serving of kale--I would even be happy to have smaller servings of the other dishes. As a plus, any number of people in a party can order the Sunday supper; it does not have to be a unanimous choice. Carbone's has been a Hartford institution for decades. Although the restaurant opened in 1938, the architecture screams mid-century downtown. Carbone's Kitchen is symbolic of all the changes of lifestyle that have happened. Downtown Hartford pretty much empties outside of the work week. Strip malls (like Wintonbury plaza) in the suburbs are much more convenient. At the same time, some things stay the same: Carbone's Kitchen's still serves the dishes that people have enjoyed for Italian Sunday suppers for generations. read more

The server was attentive and the food was delicious. My partner got the pizza and I got the Eggplant parm- the portion size I would say would be good enough for two! I couldn't finish it all. Tonight we stopped in for a quick late Sunday dinner. We sampled three starters: Eggplant Fries, Calamari & the Cesar salad. The Eggplant fries were perfectly cooked, crisp & golden brown. The calamari was fresh & delicious however we missed having tentacles as we were only served the rings, rather disappointing. Also we ordered the small but we were given the large (I think our server didn't understand us & I should of clarified). The Cesar as always was just perfect. For dinner we split a meatball hero, the meatballs were tender, flavorful & literally melt in my mouth. I could of done without the fries too heavy of a side & not fresh cut. I have been to Carbone's Kitchen quite a few times since it has opened and have always enjoyed my meal and experience. They have an extensive wine list and a variety of deserts which is what I always look for in a restaurant. Usually I go for the happy hour they have which features 1/2 off their bar menu and great drink specials. This week I sat in the bar and was surprised by a pre-fix menu that had 3 courses for $23.99 (this included my yummy desert). In addition to the 3 courses, there was a small side salad served and the portions in each course were larger than most typical pre-fix menus in CT. I felt this was a great deal. With a name like Carbone's, you have certain expectations. Unfortunately, they just weren't met on a recent visit. First off, although the name "kitchen" suggests a lack of formality, there were no formal kids menu. No problem: The kitchen has lots of dishes they can prepare. What wasn't said is that your "kids meal" of spaghetti and meatball is $15 or so, plus another few bucks for a drink. So, you're basically saving a buck or two off a regular price meal. To be fair, it was a big portion, but how many 9 year olds are going to eat an adult sized portion and why should I pay nearly $20 for them to eat when we could go to a chain Italian place? Other frustrations abound: Our waiter didn't mention that there were specials. He forgot to bring bread until we asked another waiter. Water refills lacked for a while when our waiter disappeared for a bit. As for the food, it should be a step up from Bertucci's at these prices. But the pepperoni flatbread had a crust that was chewy (and not in a good way), and the pork belly with pasta just felt like chewy tasteless chunks too. That said, the meal wasn't a complete failure. House wine for $6 a glass is a good bargain. Delicious bread. Very good calamari. And the spaghetti with meatball was pretty good. But this place should be better with a name like Carbone's. There are plenty of places to eat in the area. If it wants to compete with them, it needs to step up its game. read more

I heard about this place from a Yelp friend who knows the area well. We needed a light meal on our way back to the Hartford airport after a very busy and food laden weekend. The location worked pretty well, a little farther off the highway than I usually do while traveling, but located in a nice little town and clearly meant for the local residents. It is family owned and a delightful environment and menu. I would love an opportunity to eat here again to explore a wonderful Italian full meal. I had a small pizza, the Paulo, with gorgonzola, grilled peaches, prosciutto, topped in the center with a small balsamic dressed arugula salad. I though it was an excellent blend of flavors and textures and the only comment I would add is that I would have liked the crust to have been a little more tender, with some char and blisters from the oven. I also wish I could have taken the unfinished half with me but no such luck as I was traveling. Such a waste of a really good pizza. My husband had the ravioli marinara which he loved. Simple and classic. The wait staff was professional, friendly and efficient knowing we were on a tight schedule. So was the hostess who spoke with us on arrival and departure. We ate in the bar which was beautiful and comfortable. The main dining room had several large family groups enjoying a lively time at their Sunday night supper. read more
