Went in to pick up a used barbell and was greeted by a friendly face at the reception area, Gina the owner. As we were walking to where the barbell was, I was a bit (well actually a lot) in awe, having only been to the big box gyms in NYC which doesn't have the space The Pit does. Walking back to the front, she explained that the gym was a bit quiet because a lot of members was recouping from a USPA powerlifting event they just hosted and preparing for another powerlifting event the following week. After leaving the barbell in the front, she showed me the other side of the gym, the equipment area...beauty at it's rawest form, all the right equipment all without the need for fancy technology. She introduced me to a couple of members (who was competing the following weekend) and the Cryoden NJ owner, Karen, who is also a Masters 2 powerlifter and just competed in the USPA event. I will write a review on Cryoden, once I get my first session in. Gina unknowingly sold me a membership even without having to even sell me a membership. I guess I can use the home gym for my early morning/late night workouts and go to The Pit during the weekends. Gina, Karen and I talked a bit more and I asked about their rates, which basically had my jaw drop to the floor. I had told them the reason for to build out my own home gym, which was because of my hours with home life, work, the commute and how I prefer to get my workouts in early morning and said maybe I'll join just to go in on the weekends because of my hours. Their response...the gym is open 24 hrs. Ding Ding Ding!!! SOLD Join the gym when I got home without even having using a day pass to try it out. Finally got to get a workout in this past weekend and the atmosphere was absolutely AMAZING! Since I haven't been to a gym for about 3 months, I walked in feeling small and weak looking at all the people/members there who looks big, buff and/ or athletic (guys and girls), but I walked out feeling like an equal. There is definitely no shortness of camaraderie and friendliness there. Those in the neighborhood should definitely drop by.

The general workout area is clean & huge. It can be a little intimidating. But they have great group fitness rooms such as a spin studio that's tiered. There is another workout area that's smaller and less intimidating. I give kudos to the idea of allowing local businesses advertise on the TV panels in various areas. The juice bar is good too with various protein drinks. They have pickleball courts that double as basket ball courts. Hopefully they will expand a little more and add the pool. Then it would be a well rounded health & wellness center of the 21st century.

Their slogan is "Always clean. Never crowded." and I have never heard of a slogan for a business to hold more true. The place is immaculate! The floors and all of the equipment are spotless! You could eat off the floors in this place. They have everything you need and it doesn't feel like your typical small gym where people are pushing you or have you on a regime. You can workout at your own pace or take part in a class, whatever fits your needs. There has never been more than two other people in there working out at the same time as me so you just feel like you can let loose and breath freely. Amenities are great as well, shower rooms, bathroom and lockers are always super clean and tidy. Definitely recommend checking out the garage if you want to switch up your average gym routine!

I cancelled my membership, in person, mere hours after the first of the month deadline. The…read moreAtlantic Club "wellness coordinator" said this wouldn't be a problem, so I joined another gym. I got stuck paying two gym fees at the same time because Atlantic Club lied about giving me a few hours grace. I would not have joined another gym if the rep had been honest in the first place. When I saw the charge on my credit card, I called the gym. According to the membership rep, no one should have told me that the computer system could be changed. There was one person who had authority to change the computer system and that was Kevin McHugh-COO of Genesis Health System. I have emailed Kevin McHugh four times and only once did he get back to me to tell me he would get back to me. The Atlantic Club passes the buck and hopes you forget that you've paid them any money. I have not forgotten. I have tried in good faith to discuss this with them. They have my money; they no longer wish to speak with me. Consider this before you give them your credit card number.

Both are not only very good at what they do and how they create their workouts, but are very warm and welcoming. I also love that their classes seem to be frequented by people of all ages and workout capabilities.

My trainer Melanie has kept in touch training on Zoom free of charge. Today, I went to the Forest Hills site where I participate and was given a welcome back bag and so this is the new look for working out in the parking lot with masks and the parking spots are at least 7'x 10 so we are socially distanced correctly. Nice selection of equipment, free weights, cardio, racks, dumbbells, and machines. The facility itself is not overly huge, but it is packed with enough equipment to get in a great workout. Also offers all types of classes - yoga, boot camp, zumba, pilates, etc. Decent hours. Located right across the street from the Ocean Place resort. Everything is sparkling clean and well maintained including the locker room. There is also a staff of top-notch trainers on hand and helpful employees. Nice cafe area too to grab a protein smoothie after your workout. The normal daily pass for visitors is a bit steep though at $20 a day, and when I asked they offered a multi day pass deal if doing a 2 or 3 day weekend here they said no, only a weekly pass. As with everything in this tourist village where prices are inflated the same goes here. Just surprised they don't work out special rate deals for those staying at Ocean Place next door. It's a missed opportunity. Overall, had a good workout, and the beach location was a plus, along with the free pass from Yelp made it even better.

I've been a day one member at Life Time Fitness Middletown, joining when the doors first opened --…read moreback when the gym didn't even have its liquor license or reliable electricity. That's why it's frustrating to see the direction things have gone less than a year later. For a gym of this size and caliber, the sauna and steam room are shockingly small. They feel like an afterthought compared to the massive footprint of the rest of the facility, and it's disappointing considering how much members are paying. What stings even more is being hit with a $75 per member increase in under a year. As someone who supported the gym from day one, it feels like loyalty isn't valued -- instead, members are left to absorb constant price hikes. Life Time has the potential to be the premier club in the area, but issues like these make it hard to justify the cost.

I have spent the last couple of months trying to cancel this membership but they will not allow me to do it online even though they allowed me to sign up online. I had never even stepped foot into the gym which is why I wanted to cancel. But I had to go there in person just to cancel and whenever I went there on multiple occasions , the manager was never present for me to be able to cancel the membership. Once I finally came face to face with a manager , they wanted an additional eighty dollars to cancel the membership. I finally had to tell my bank that it wasn't an authorized charge. Never would I sign up for a planet fitness membership again. They were deeply unprofessional, unhelpful, and unsympathetic. The ad is misleading in the fact that they want you to come in person and require a manager be present to cancel a membership is ridiculous. And to Naz the manager at this planet fitness- FUCK YOU
