It's also right next to the lawn where outdoor concerts are held, which adds a nice atmosphere. There's also a ton of staff, they're always nearby for everything and anything you need. I did think it was a little odd that drinks were served in red solo cups, which took away from the overall dining vibe. We started with the burrata - it was decent, nothing particularly memorable. Wasn't the best, wasn't the worst. For my entrée, I ordered the mushroom pasta. It was okay, but I personally would have liked more depth of mushroom flavor. For dessert, we tried the tiramisu, which was tasty but extremely pricey for the portion size. While I enjoyed parts of the meal, the value wasn't quite there for me. I may come back in the future, but I'm not rushing back anytime soon.

A second visit to the beautiful and historic National in central Telluride (sharing back-space with…read morethe Last Dollar Saloon) - it's upscale and cozy at once, hospitality top-tier from hello to friendly send-off. I found myself perplexed by menu choices, spanning Moroccan, Italian, and Israeli-inspired dishes - all pairing well with a finely curated wine list, but lacking cohesion. That said, certain shared plates may be paired with salad, cold bar, and highlighted (seafood; their specialty) entrees to find a through line, but I recommend dining in larger groups for a better experience. In my case, while the tartare was fresh, flavors were not unique (excess of aioli), and house-made pasta was cooked perfectly but sauce was thin and lacking depth. Carrying a whole star for the meal was an absolutely exceptional Rucola salad delicately dressed in fine EVOO, pickled grapes, shaved pecorino, and roasted almonds - an archetype if there ever was one. Kyle & Ian took good care of details (even with unexpected feedback), and teamwork (with hands-on management) keeps the place running smoothly even when the house is packed.

Outdoor, inside and banquet dining booths are all seating arrangements available in this quaint and minimalist setting. Happy hour selections are available along with small plates or hearty servings. Reservations were required due to the Film Festival crowds. The menu is divided into crudo, small shares, from the field and mains. We started with the fried green tomatoes with crab escabeche, lemon-caper aioli, green olive, pimenton oil and pickled celery. A delicious flavor with a hint of sour and beautifully crisp fried tomatoes. The shaved fennel and grape salad contained spinach, whipped goat cheese, grapefruit slices, almonds and a honey vinegarette. The flavor was a bit bland and needed more fennel. The roasted cauliflower with smoked paprika, pistachio dukkah, lemon and green olive tampanade. The pistachio dukkah and olive tampanade was unique and refreshing. Our final selection was the prawn skillet with garlic, pimenton delicious la vera, guindilla peppers, sherry reduction and toast points. A simple but delightful dish with an incredible sauce. Again, more toasted points for the sauces would of been perfect, but still a memorable dish. Even though we had an early seating, the restaurant was fairly busy. The fried green tomatoes, prawn skillet and roasted cauliflower were delightful and flavor packed. Side Work provides an unique option to the busy Telluride dining scene. Off the beaten path of Main Street, they hold their own. Coupling the different selections and size with good flavors warrants Side Work being on the Telluride good haunts. Please give Side Work, a new addition to Telluride food scene, a chance with your dining dollars.
