It's actually possibly to get "Q" during the film festival, walk briskly over here, order, have your food prepared and packaged, and arrive back at the theater in time to get your seat and enjoy a "movie picnic". My falafel sandwich was large enough and filled with around 6-8 quarter-sized patties, lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers. I had requested tzaziki instead of tahini, which was verbally agreed upon, but not given. It was good, but not great.... and certainly better than another dinner of popcorn. read more

We hit this place for lunch after a brisk hike in mid-August. I was craving kebabs, and my son and husband were anxious to try some Middle Eastern fare. We had a delicious lunch in a beautiful setting on a lovely afternoon. The outdoor seating area was perfect for us as well as our friends' black lab. There were more people than seats available, too bad their patio is not a smidge larger. But our group of 8 adults +1 teen +1 pooch found 2 tables back-to-back as we arrived just ahead of the crowd. A bit pricey but we expected that in Telluride. The only downer: my son had purchased a sweatshirt as a memento from our trip out west, and-- being distracted by the awesomeness of his tasty grub-- he left it behind. Even while retracing his steps an hour after we finished our meal, no luck! Oh well. Whoever has it must have needed it more than he did. We have dined at Caravan before and it was not that terrible. But, with new staff it has gone down hill. The only person working could not get it together and it took a very, very long time to prepare three entrees. When we returned home our order was incorrect, the spanikopitas were burnt, the french fries were dry (over fried), the baklava was mainly honey goo with only a few layers of fillo dough on top and a few layers of fillo on the bottom, no layers in the middle? Substandard in my opinion. Not returning, go next door to La Cocina it is very expensive, but delicious everytime. read more

These people serve great food fantastic smoothies and serve the customer in more ways then ever expected. We visited for the cold smoothies on a warm day and while waiting on our food we accidentally left the souvenir shirt on a bench. We called the owner up and they were kind enough to mail that shirt to us just as part of the customer package. These folks know how to treat their customers to a great meal and a family type experience! Must stop for those visiting this beautiful area! read more

As a Telluride local I don't go out to eat a lot, I can walk home from anywhere in Town. When I do go out its most often one of 3 places and Caravan is one of them. Service is fast and friendly. If there is a new item, and they add them frequently, you can get a sample to taste. The price is very reasonable for a resort town, especially for the generous portions. I'm always stuffed when I leave, whether its just a sandwich or a platter. Those platters offer a lot of choices too. Yes, it's a good idea to grab cutlery as Mid-eastern food can drop some tasty morsels outside the wrapper. I like being able to eat out on the patio with the spectacular views and when the weather is dicey I can take it indoors to the great Mexican restaurant next door (same ownership and another favorite eatery). The owner goes out of his way to source ingredients locally and organically when possible. Another plus is that the owner is involved with many local non-profits and helps out by catering fundraising events. I don't know how to say Bon Apetite in any middle eastern language but I would if I could. My only wish is that he also opens a Tibet/Indian restaurant :) read more

Caravan tackily posts a sign at the register fishing for favorable reviews on restaurant and travel Web sites, so I hope the management doesn't mind this honest review of their milquetoast take on Middle Eastern cuisine. Diners order from a window of a cart off the sidewalk and are welcome to enjoy their food outside on the patio or inside two doors down at La Cocina de Luz, Caravan's older Mexican-American sibling. The inattentive yet pleasant young man behind the register asked to take my order, but I had to repeat the entire thing since he wasn't paying attention the first time around. I wanted to try the lentil soup, which was advertised on the sign outside and on the menu, but apparently there was none to be had. My chicken shawarma plate presented itself several minutes later, nearly correct--I had forgone the pita bread in favor of those fabulous Mary's gluten-free crackers, but they were sadly missing. Luckily, the situation was remedied immediately. While I appreciate that Middle Eastern-ish food is now available in San Miguel County, I wish I could be more enthusiastic about the grub Caravan is slinging. The measly portion of chicken ended up being underdone (gross!), the baba ganoush lacked both the punchy flavors and deep smokiness you expect, and the "Greek salad" was just the New Age-ey Mexican salad from next door with a different dressing. At Caravan, Telluride takes a hatchet to yet another world cuisine. If you decide to go, tie up your expectations and your big city tastebuds alongside one of the cute doggies on the sidewalk. read more

Surprised by the negative reviews - I spend summers out near Telluride, and probably stop here at least once a month for a falafal salad or wrap to go. It's not the drool-worthy Middle Eastern food you'd get in LA or DC, but the falafal and hummus are perfectly respectable, and the veggie sides and salads have always been fresh in my experience. It's also one of the quicker to-go options in town - I've never had to wait more than 15 minutes after placing my order (usually closer to 10 min), and you can sit in the patio area of Cocina de Luz while waiting. Like everything in Telluride, prices are more than you'd pay elsewhere, but the wraps are under $10 and pretty big (the side orders are more pricey and can add up). read more

of course it's not middle eastern food you'll find in NYC, but i still thought it was quite good! the vegetarian sampler (in which you get to choose 5 sides) was $13 and super filling, which i'd say is a good deal. the patio atmosphere is really nice as well. however, they did get my order wrong, which is why i had to bring it down a star. my plate was missing the spanikopita and baklava that i ordered, and instead came with an unappetizing veggie soup and another salad which was kind of disappointing because i was really looking forward to the baklava. if they were out of those things, i wish they had told me at the register or ahead of time so i could have picked something else. read more

Falafel, schwarma, shish kebab are all typically fast, inexpensive street food. Here it is too expensive for being very average and came out slowly. A tiny hot dog sized piece of lamb on a stick, a few small falafel, a small Greek side salad, and a piece of baklava were $20. It wasn't bad, but not worth the price and not something I'll return to. I want the old taco truck back in town :( read more

Service is not telling of Telluride. By far the WORST service with the most disrespectful burnette employee. After apologizing for "mis reading" the menu, she deliberately messed up the order twice. I have to say that I'm surprised to see negative reviews for this place! I stop by the Caravan for lunch a few times a week, and am never disappointed. Service is always friendly, portions are huge, and the food is consistently delicious. read more
