I was craving a filet and saw the sign for best Latin Steak House, hidden behind hotel chain. The service was excellent! I did not have to ask for anything. The steak was good; I would have liked more seasoning. The steak was cooked as ordered. It's got a nice inside area, plenty of room for parties. I would suggest taking someone with you for company. Great food and top notch service. Cool blend of a modern and classic steakhouse. Came here with some locals who did the ordering of the appetizers for us all. Couldn't tell you the names of the dishes but they were all amazing. And filling! We still ordered steaks after the appetizers and those were great, too. I had the ribeye and most everyone else had the arrachera skirt steak. Everyone left full and happy. We had an older gentleman as our server. Seemed to have a lifetime of service experience as he was super on top of taking care of us. Kept the drinks flowing and accommodated all requests. Really liked the vibe of this place. While I'm usually in the Reno NV area, I happen to be in a place where I lived before .. Tubac AZ. 30 Miles North of Nogales AZ/Nogales Mexico. On the Arizona side lies this hidden gem. Who would think you would find such a great place in a Motel 6. But that is exactly where it is. Classifies itself as Caracu Latin Restaurant. I had one of the best steaks I've eaten in a restaurant in a very long time Medium rare ... was really medium rare. Dinner starts with a free appetizer of black eye peas ... I could inhale this stuff. Small black eye peas .. and I tasted, tomato, cilantro, onion, an exceptional olive oil and a splash of vinegar. It was so good we ordered a side to take home. For our entree we decided on Filet Mignon ... $35 for an 8 oz filet, perfectly cooked. On the plate was a small side salad, roasted rosemary potatoes, and a piece of garlic toast. Half that filet will be in tomorrow night's salad dinner at home. We shared a (wish I actually remembered the name) apple, cinnamon, cake with bourbon (?), a scoop of vanilla ice cream and drizzled with caramel sauce. Outstanding. Looking forward to going back and having a "appetizer dinner" .. really want to try their pulpo (octopus). Our waitress, Vivian, was a delight. If you're in town for the Tubac Festival of the Arts ... drive 20 minutes to exit 4 on Rt. 19. Get off at Mariposa .. make a wide left (there are 2 left lanes) and a quick right into the Safeway parking lot ... Caracu is to the left .. can't miss the sign. My friends and I wanted to enjoy some nice steaks on one of my last nights in Nogales. When we walked in, the restaurant smelled of Nag Champa incense and bathroom air freshener... not the smells that I was looking for. We sat down anyways and ordered our food. I ordered a sirloin cooked medium with a side of broccoli. When the food arrived, everything looked delicious. Although the steak was very well-seasoned and had a great flavor, it was overcooked. The side salad was nice and the new potatoes were crispy and also flavorful. The broccoli had been cooked to an inch of its existence, and therefore was a little chewy. My friends enjoyed their meals. We finished the evening with a piece of carrot cake which was moist and absolutely delicious. The servers were very friendly and attentive - they made the experience great. However, from beginning to end of the meal, my friends and I were all overwhelmed by the smells. As we exited the restaurant, we saw two air fresheners that were situated right behind us. Had it not been for the them, we would have had a much better time and meal. read more

This is one of those hidden gems I'm only down in Nogales for work, but I definitely will be coming back just for this. This is some of the best octopus and ceviche I've had the ceviche itself just melts in your mouth has amazing flavor profile the octopus came with all the fixings to make the best tacos, the service was fantastic and they even had live music playing. Our first visit here was to celebrate my birthday. Both of us had steaks cooked to perfection. The steak plates come with roasted baby potatoes perfectly seasoned, garlic bread and a small salad. I found Caracu here on Yelp and decided to try it due to the reviews. We went in about 5:15 for an early dinner because we had driven 6 hours we were hungry. What a great Classic Steakhouse atmosphere. The Ambiance was perfect, peaceful and the music appropriate. The service was attentive. We asked about the name Caracu- which means bone marrow. Evidently they are known for their bone marrow appetizer. Which had we know before ordering would have definitely ordered. As other reviews stated they serve a wonderful black-eyed-pea salsa with toasted bread rounds and several sauces including a house made ChimiChurri- excellent!! We both had the RibEye MR and they were perfectly seasoned and cooked. Accompanied with a few roasted small potatoes, a fresh lite salad and garlic bread to tie it all together. I couldn't finish my steak so I made a small sandwich with my bread for breakfast the next morning. We decided to share a piece of Carrot Cake for dessert and we could only rest about half of it. The only picture I took was of the carrot cake. It's on a 10" plate!! Everything about Caracu was amazing and we are planning to return on our way home in Dec. What a find! read more

Send back the rarest but came back still NOT Medium Rare. You would think a Latin Steakhouse would get this right? Had high hopes p, as we don't do red meat often....but disappointed. We were absolutely blown away by the food at Caracu! The four of us came to celebrate my husband's birthday, recommended by his sister who lives in Rio Rico. This restaurant is worth the drive from anywhere in Arizona! We started with the black eyed pea appetizer, full of flavor, a definite twist to a appetizer bowl. Next was Atun Mango ceviche, which was a tower of fresh tuna, topped with mango and diced avocado sitting in a ponzu sauce, topped with thinly sliced Serrano peppers. We all wanted to lick the plate, every item was fresh with spicy goodness. Our entrees were two beef filets, cooked to perfection, which came with small roasted potato halves, a small salad, and a delicious piece of garlic toast. My husband had Chamorro Adobado, a pork shank served with mashed potatoes and the last plate was a salmon filet, again served with a small salad and roasted potatoes. All of us were treated to three sauces, a tomato sauce with a kick, a chimichurri sauce filled with garlic, and a hot sauce that was too spicy for me. This was the best steak we've had in awhile. I had the Arrachera and it was delicious! The chimichuri sauce was a great compliment. My husband had the Ribeye and thoroughly enjoyed it. He had a bourbon sour which was excellent and I had a glass of the Bonanza Cabernet. Surprisingly good for the price. Beautiful Restuarant. Very Nice Serving Staff. My wife and I arrived at 6PM. Resturant began fill up rapidly. I ordered Aged Sirloin medium, the Chef cooked what looked like thin sliced New York Strip cooked to almost a Jerky texture in a sauce like worchestire sauce with little chili pepper to give it a bit of kick. Not Good and not what I ordered and they charged $45. The plate arrived to the table cold. Cold. I chewed through about a 3rd of the plate and stopped chewing.. Tired jaw.. Seriously, $45 Beef Jerky.... I also ordered a Wedge Salad. The Salad was Romain Heart with Bleu Cheese. The Salad was Good. My wife ordered a Ribeye medium. Her Ribeye was flavorless. $29 We shared our observations with the our Waitress (very nice lady) and she explained that the Shef cooked the wrong cut of meat. She apologized repeatedly.. She said the name of the plate was Secina, (Beef Jerky in English) new to the list of menu items as of the same day but was not yet listed on the menu. I guess the Chef wanted to see how the New Beef Jerky would go over with the customers. Whoops The Staff offered compensations for the error. Desert in a clear plastic box like what you might find at Safeway I figure, another wine for my wife, but not once did they mention removing the cost of the 45 dollar Beef Jerky from the bill. We paid the the bill $117.00 ticket My wife left a $10 tip for the Server. Not quite a 15% tip, but she did forget to mention the error when she put the Cold Jerky Plate in front of me.
