We found this little Italian place on Yelp while we were searching around at Short Hills. The waiters, hostess and the food was amazing. I definitely recommend Fettucine Casa Mia and Tiramisu. The seafood pasta was sooo far the best I have ever eaten! The only bad thing about this place was the smell, from the moment we entered, the place had a toilet smell and I couldnt get used to the smell, I just tried to focus on my food which was beyond wonderful :) maybe the smell was just for that day, I dont know about that.. They serve a nice basket of bread and what looked like fried zucchini chips or something like that with brouchetta when you sit down. The entree we ordered-- fish was excellent. Everyone liked what they had. It's byob so that makes this a great choice. You get value at this place and it's fairly easy to park in lot a Ross the street and walk across. Definitely would go back. I loved everything about this restaurant. The ambiance was lovely. Subdued , laidback yet tasteful done. The tables are spaced well apart. It is quiet and comfortable. The staff were absolutely gems. They were so very pleasant and eager to serve. When asked any question nothing was ever a problem. Special orders were no problem. Very accommodating. Visited with a group of 12 before a showing at the Paper Mill Playhouse. Everyone was very impressed with Cara Mia's top notch food, attentive service and romantic ambiance. When I say top notch food, I mean it. Ingredients are of superb quality. I honestly wouldnt be surprised if they sun-dry their own tomatoes and pickle their own capers; it's that good! I was able to try a couple of salads, stuffed portabella appetizer, and my entree of pumpkin cheese ravioli. While all were great, my favorite dish by far was my sister's porcini mushroom ravioli. I was too scared to get it myself because I dont usually enjoy creamy sauces, but it was absolutely spectacular! Bursting with flavor but not too heavy. Highly recommended! Only real downside is lack of bathroom space - there's only one single-person loo and the line can get long. This inconvenience is offput by the fact that Cara Mia is BYO with a liquor store located just a couple doors down, and a there's also a few different parking options, including a municipal lot across the street. All around, a great pick for a nice fancy dinner before the show. We started our stay at home date night with amazing garlic shrimp and each had the most delectable entrees of red snapper livornese and penne vodka. Flavor and preparation were on point, and the serving size was immense. After cleaning up our plates with the tastiest bread, we indulged in dessert. I chose this restaurant based on reviews, but cannot go past 2 star. The Spiedeno appetizer was ordered with the sauce on the side; it arrived drenched in sauce. The solution from the rocket scientists in the kitchen was to scrape the sauce only to reveal a room temperature disaster. The gnocchi bolognese was very nice; very ample and tasty portion. When I asked for the left overs to be wrapped, the waitress delivered what I thought was a package right side up to the table.......wrong.....she presented it upside down, and after a few hours in the car; it seeped from the container, through the bag and into the seat of my car; which left a mess. I'm extremely impressed with this restaurant! I found a $50 worth of food and drink deal on Groupon for only $16 and made a reservation. The lady who answered the phone was incredibly polite and professional - as was all the service from beginning to end in the restaurant, which is refreshing. The parking is great; there was a space right in front of the restaurant that was free at 6:30pm on a Sunday. The decoration is beautiful; it has a genuine Italian feel to it. It was busy but the tables were spaced nicely. We loved the breads with olive oil and the zucchini chips. We ordered the carbonara and the fettucine Cara Mia. Food was fine. The experience was soured, however, by seating service. We had a 5:30 pm reservation for two. When we got there, they were busy and we were asked to wait. There was, however, an empty table for four. A bit annoying to wait for what turned out to be 20 minutes in the doorway while that table sat. As we waited, another table for four became available. Still, no table for us. Finally, we were given a table for two in the far corner. Not terrible, but not great. Those two tables for four remained empty for all the time we waited (20 minutes) and probably another ten after we were seated. What was annoying is a woman came in by herself and was immediately seated at the table for four. Her partner came in 20 minutes later. Then, a couple came in and were also immediately seated at the other empty table for four. So these tables were not being held for parties of four. We have been to Cara Mia - Millburn, NJ several times over the past few years, for lunch & dinner. A nice romantic place, perfect for couples! Plenty of metered parking right across the street & some right in front! We went this snowy evening for dinner and had the Chicken Française (Francese) $21.95 & a Double portion of the Fried Calamari Appetizer (as an entree for $25.90). The Calamari was incredibly tender on the inside and crispy on the outside, the way it is supposed to be! The food was very flavorful, of good quality and were fair portions. (at least ours were) The couple seated next to us ordered 2 entrees, one was the Chicken Parmesan, which seemed much bigger than my chicken dish, for the same price. However, we felt the prices were a bit high for the portion size, even for Millburn, NJ center (proper). Although we had a reservation, confirmed it within 24 hours & arrived a little early, we had to stand with other guests and wait several minutes in the incredibly tight & crowded entranceway, for a table to be cleared & set, even though there were clearly other tables already clean & set. This was really uncomfortable as the restaurant is relatively small, several of the tables & seats are a bit too close together & it was so busy, the owners & staff had to keep excusing themselves or we had to keep moving so they could squeeze around everybody standing waiting to be seated. Even though the restaurant was nearly filled to capacity, when our waiter Eventually came over to take our order, our meals came out correct & rather quickly! Although we were told our waiter was new, that he was just called in to work as a favor, he Never checked on us at all during our entire meal! He Never asked us how our meal was or if we needed anything else. He did however fill our water glasses when they were 90% empty. As the owners knew this, They should have at Least stopped by our table to say hello & check on us or someone, anyone, should have checked on us. The ambiance, service and food are all very impressive. The inside has a cozy Italian feel to it. Between the art work and white linen table cloths, I could have easily been in Italy, though the 60s American music probably needed to be substituted for some Andrea Bocelli for the full effect. Our server was prompt, attentive and had one hell of a memory. She whipped off the nightly specials without reading from any cheat sheet and took our order without writing anything down. That's how I used to do it in my waiting days (at least for smaller parties), so I give major props to the service! As for the food, the portabello mushroom soup special was nice and rich, yet not too heavy. Perfect consistency. The meatball appetizer was good, but appeared to be missing fennel. Maybe it's a preference thing, but I prefer that in mine. Either way, it was nice of them to split the two meatballs. The gnocchi bolognese sure tasted homemade to me, and like most gnocchis, was nice and filling. The herb crusted salmon had a lot going on, but was tasty nevertheless. Overall, the portions here are very generous so if you leave hungry you best go get your stomach checked. My only regret is I didn't get to try dessert, but I'll be back. Went back, this time with Groupon. We had bought it and couldn't use it before it expired. We had a death in the family and my wife was out of town taking care of family for awhile. I had called the restaurant and the owner was very gracious in giving us more time. He also was kind enough in expressing condolences. Shortly after that, Groupon on its own extended the expiration date. As we payed the bill, the manager, without missing a prompt, also expressed condolences which was unexpected and a nice touch. Now, my review. You can see from the above that the people who manage this place are thoughtful. The service is beyond outstanding as it was the last time we were here. Similarly, the food is better than outstanding. The entrees we ordered were halibut which was a special and snapper off the menu. We also shared a salad. Everything was super good. This is a BYO (which we forgot). It's not a very big place and parking is still a pain but it's well worth going to for a great meal and great service and very hosts. read more

The place was pretty crowded but it really was no excuse for the level of service we received. It seemed like we were waiting forever every step of the way. For appetizers we ordered some clams in what smelled to be some delicious broth but unfortunately the restaurant ran out of bread. How do you run out of bread? It was 7 o'clock and you ran out of bread. The server told us the specials in one of them was a veal chop which I had my taste buds set on. Bbut it's course they ran out of it. So second choice was pork chops. So we waited and waited ad waited some more. Finally, dinner was served. Now im no gourmet chef, but i do know that there has to be some juice in a pork chop, but these were dead. All in all i dont think i would go back.
