I went to Car-X in Waukegan because I was referred from my dealer, and they did not disappoint. I was able to set an appointment days in advance. I was greeted when I walked through the door. The waiting room is nice and they have a tv to watch shows. The guys assessed my vehicle and physical showed me everything that needed to be done. Very transparent. They were able to handle all of my service request, such as a cracked exhaust, change tire sensors, oil change, and new tires for front wheels, which I was able to save myself a trip to my dealer for maintenance. They were fair with their pricing. My estimate pick up was supposed to be same day, but there was a delay in getting a part, which I understands happens. I liked that I was kept informed and was able to get my vehicle the next morning. The gentleman at the front, I think his name is Hector, not sure if he was the manager, he knows his stuff, he was professional, and he handles all his customers concerns well. Terrible experience all the way around. They have now changed their name but it's the same cast of characters. I've brought my car in a couple times for repairs. I had to bring my car in a day after they repaired it because there was smoke coming from the hood due to an oil leak that they did not repair correctly. I called them and they corrected their mistake no problem. Several months later I took it in for another problem, they allegedly fixed it $1000 later. The car was still running awful to the point of catastrophe and had to bring it in several more times but they were unable to correct the problem. I had to take it somewhere else (another $600) to figure out what my car needed and repair it. It turns out the timing belt was a tooth off and not the engine mount as Shaq stated. I went back to what is now Car Fix (and write this review on Google as well under Car Fix) and let Hector know what happened. He did not offer any refund and in fact tried to charge me an extra $400 for changing spark plugs that I didn't ask for. They replaced and charged me for an engine or trans mount I didn't need. This place is a joke and I'll keep posting these reviews until someone finally looks into this scam Hector is running. read more

I recently got a muffler delete from here. It was an 07 subaru Impreza that was super quiet and I didn't want that. I called the dude helping me was very helpful and even though I just called for questions and an estimation he convinced me to head over there so I did he took my key and then later explain what they had to do to it and showed me too. The only bad thing was the wait time, He told me 2 and a half hours but when I got there later they were barely getting started on it but after an hour and a half they had it ready and so the dude on the phone who I didnt get the name of took me to go hear it and I was %100 worth the wait and I left satisfied and happy. read more

I was traveling so I dropped the car off on Monday came back Friday and my car was fixed (minor issues) and I was only charged for an hour of investigating. I came to this place per recommendation of a friend. I was pretty excited about it too. I've heard that this is an honest down to earth kind of shop and so I took my car on over. I originally went in just wanting to get an oil change and wheel alignment. When I dropped it off, I was told it would just be a couple hours max and so I went on to do my daily chores waiting to hear back. After about 3 hours, I called in, thinking it was strange that I didn't receive a call. Ron who picked up, told me that he was just about to call me, to tell me that my oil change was done, but the wheel alignment machine was out of commission so they'll try to get it back in order and that he'll call me back in 2 hours. 3 hours from that point, I decided to just have someone drop me off at the shop. This was near 5pm so I didn't want my car stuck there. As I walked in Ron told me that he was just ready to call me again, and that he had some bad news for me. According to the mechanics, they couldn't really get my wheel alignment right and it was because of my struts and sway bar link was near dead and that my car "wouldn't last more than 3 days" according to Ron. That scared me, and it scared me good. Before then I've never had any issues with it, but I trusted him cause well I don't know diddly-squat about cars and I was told to trust in Ron and Car-X. So I asked how much it would all cost. He told me that well I'd need to change out all four of my struts, and also my front break pads and calibers. He quoted me, ~$1000 for the whole thing. I don't quite have that money to drop, but he assured me again, that he'd be "surprised if it lasted more than 3 days" the way it was. He also told me that he'd throw in the oil change if I repaired the parts with him. So that was nice. He also took me to my car and showed me the things I needed to replace. I did my best to understand what he was saying and even looked up when I got home, but didn't really see the signs he was talking about and pointing to, but I still trusted him I had to move that day so I took it back and was told to bring it back in the morning tomorrow and he'll take care of it. I came back the next day at the time he said, and unfortunately, he said it was a busy day, but they'll get it done. I waited for at least 45 minutes in the office waiting for a quote. He said he had to wait till his warehouse opened. I couldn't wait much longer so I told him I had to go, and he assured me he will call me before anything it done. 1 hour passed, 2 hour passed. I still didn't get a call. So I ended up borrowing someone's car to get there and talk to him in person. As I walked in, Ron said that he had been trying to call me, but must have the wrong number on file. Then on top of that, he said that we had talked before, so he knew that I'd be okay with them starting on my car. That was a HUGE red flag for me. Even without me giving the okay, they had already to start the work. Then he pulled up the cost and was showing me how it would've cost ~1500 but he can give me a bunch of discounts here and there, to bring it down to the $1000 he promised. How the only problem was, that didn't even include the rear two struts that he had quoted me for. Now that hurt. They had already started, and I didn't even give the okay. I was told I got a really good deal and told me that all the parts were sold "at cost" and so it's really only the labor that they are making money from. I ate it all up, and was even told that I could get a rebate on top of the price I was charged, which turned out to be ~$1130 for the two front struts, sway bar links, and breaks/calibers. I looked up the parts - the shop charged me more than cost. At this point, I had been promised things and had them broken, told that I would get my break flushed, and battery cleaned, etc, all on the house, but ended up having to ask him about it before he told me that he can do some of it today, and the rest I can come the next day to have them done. I was pretty fed up because it was all by mouth, and nothing was written so all I could do was nod like an idiot and believe he'd keep his promises to me. I came back again the next day (day 3 for those counting) to get the rebate as he told me that his system was down the day before and couldn't give it to me when I got my car back. I had also told him that my car was still veering to the right, the first reason I brought it in. He told me that I'd have to come back another day and get it done if I wanted. I didn't even bring up the fact that he said he would help me clean up my battery and show me how to prevent acid build up. I left that day without a rebate since Ron said his system was down. I ended up getting it a few days later. All in all, this place seems like the average place that will try to get you to do more than you need and quote you prices that they can't keep because of some issue or that they simply forgot to put in something. I was referred by a friend who spoke very highly of this place and told me to ask for ron. when I arrived I asked if ron was available and was informed he no longer works there. my experience went down hill from there to make a long story short I got a quote from the young man and said I would think about it went to another shop and was quoted two hundred dollers less and I didn't need half of what car x said I needed. I came here because I got a groupon for a Oil change, tire roation, and new wiper blades for 20 bucks or something. I noticed my blades were like shredding and groupon shined down on me with a place to do it for me that wasnt in the middle of chicago. So i called this moring got an appointment for 9 and went on over. They guy was nice and he took my info and had =Regis and Kelly on. Which I apperciate because I hate when people have like this old house or some other show that I know most people dont watch. Not that Regis and Kelly is super awesome but I find for 9am tv it can be entertaining. Anywho oh yea and I got to get out of work for this. In about 20 30 mins they were done but he said my tires were good in the front and shouldnt be rotated....Ok then. I started to think maybe they should do somthing else then but couldnt think of what. Plus Im no car expert. So i took my keys back and tested my new blades with excitement. Great customer service! I was actually sitting next door at the Vasquez auto repair and the wait was an hour or so to have my car checked out. So i looked up and seen CarX and decided to see if they would be able to look at my car and tell me whats wrong. Needless to say in the next hour my car was done and i was on my way, had i stayed at vasquez i would have just only had my car seen, im sure it would have been another hour for the service!
