Don't go here if you can avoid it. We had a handsfree Bluetooth kit installed in our 2007 Murano and they had the car for almost 7 hrs. When we went to puck it up, it would not start. They jumped it and we drove it home but it didn't start the next morning. When we brought it back, they claimed that the car had check engine light on and a weak battery when we brought it in. Long story slightly less long...after being without the vehicle for the better part of a week, the Nissan dealer determined that they had connected something improperly causing a draw. We had to replace the battery that they killed as well. read more

I bought a Groupon for a car detailing from Car Toys. $89 dollars seemed like a good deal until I got there and had to pay extra for seats to be cleaned, and hatchback dirty spots to be cleaned. The front drivers floor mat was not cleaned at all and I had to shampoo it when I got home.I ended up paying over $200 for the detailing, so this was not a great deal at all. read more

Car Toys Boulder has been taking care of my car audio and accessories needs for years! I won't go anywhere else. Their timeframes are reasonable and they're always upfront on how long they'll need my vehicle. They call me through out any installation process and let me know if anything is running longer than they originally thought. I've been in the store when some customers have lost their cool and been downright rude but the staff remains professional. I'd suggest this business to anyone looking for quality audio, radar, navigation, remote start, fun car extras, all of which I've purchased from them! read more

Over the summer, I took my 1998 Crown Victoria in for a remote starter. They told me that there were none left in stock, but that they would have a fix. I accepted their offer and waited a good 3 hours for them to finish up installing the fix. I came outside to test out the new product, but I found out that they had destroyed my entire electrical system in my car. James the shop manager did not even offer to help getting my car towed to the dealership and said "Its an old crappy car, it was bound to die eventually". I have tried to contact corporate, but have gotten no response. I had to pay to get my car towed back home. So now I'm out $700 and don't have a car! read more

I have had great service here multiple times. I always ask for the full cost including all the extras. Installation is always going to cost a lot more then you expect, they add on shop cost, and extra parts, etc, etc, etc, just get the full cost up front. They have a lot of very low advertised prices, but in the end the make up for it on the cost of installation. You need to do some research before you go in, but in general I think then do a good job. There is not really a lot of other choices in the area. read more

Bait and switch. Terrible service. Advertised stereo for $100 installed. Went in to buy. Rep stated he did not know anything about ad but stated the cheapest for what we were looking for (as was in ad) would be $180. Two spots to the left was another stereo with the exact same specs for $120. Called attention to rep, he gave some poor apology. Was going to buy. Rep then sprung the extra costs of $45 wiring harness and $25 mounting kit to install. So the installation was really not included was it? Rep did not have reply to that. Then asked to make sure that steering wheel controls would be maintained. Rep stated that it would be another $100 for that. Walked out. So the advertised $100 stereo would have really been $340 had I let them handle it. Nice. Guess that's how they get people into their store and make their money. Never buy from them. read more

Terrible service, with several managers all contradicting one another's promises. They (tried to) install side mirror cameras, and totally messed it up. The cameras didn't work right and kept falling off. One manager admitted that they had never done it before, and promised a complete refund. Another manager then refused to refund the labor cost or the cost of one of the cameras that had fallen off! What a sleazy place. read more

I went in wanting a sony radio, but Doug took the time and really walked me through all the different radios and speakers. I do not know much about car audio and he really helped me pick what was right for my budget and what sounds the best. He also installed it. He was not a sales person, he was an installer. Yes, in years past service /attitude was a bit shoddy. My last experience this week was superb, however! I bought a super cheap radio to self install in an old 78 van. The installation crew was most helpful in advise on doing a new radio/old car retrofit. Going back this am to upgrade rear speakers to do justice to new Kenwood radio. read more

These guys installed a new bluetooth receiver for my truck. The bluetooth functions perfectly but they installed it wrong because every time I go on the highway the plastic starts buzzing very loudly. There is no way to stop it. I don't know exactly what went wrong but I have to listen to the buzzing plastic parts while i'm playing music. These guys don't have cheap installs either, so maybe they should figure out how to do that before they rake in undeserved cash. read more

Was told by corporate offices to bring my car back in to re-do the botched detailing "service" that was previously done. However, the store will not honor it. Absolutely unbelievable phone conversation with the assistant manager that lasted 20 minutes and went nowhere. He said they would only re-do what wasn't done the1st time. I explained what wasn't done was basically the whole car and I had photos to prove it and emails from the corporate office regarding the conversation for CarToys to make it right. For the 1st go round - had they vacuumed in between the seats (the places I can't reach with a car wash vacuum), I probably would have let all the other issues slide. But after seeing that they skipped the back seat vacuuming, the glovebox, wiping down the seats, smearing all over the window, splattering on dash and didn't wipe out the gauges...they did do a good job on the mats. Horrible crooks! I had an $800 radio, back up camera, and Blue tooth mic. installed 14 months ago. The wiring harness was loose so some of the functions worked intermittently. The equipment is fine, so I took it back for the re-connection of wires. However, when I got my car back everything was WORSE, some of my interment panel doesn't work! They never took the whole system out and rewired it as I asked. The night manager told me to buy a new system, when I asked her to have the job re-done! read more

Update: I did go back, they redid my detail job, and mostly did it right the second time. The manager also arranged for me to receive a refund for what I paid for the Groupon. (I forgot to mention to him the extra I paid for the pet hair removal.) It turns out that the place is now under new management. This new manager, Adan, does seem to care very much about the business. Perhaps things will change now. I will give them a second star for his kind effort. read more

Nice guys, but do not believe them when they tell you the install time. I had heard this advise from a friend, but thought my experience might be different. Not so. The day I purchased my car stereo, I came in early (9:30am) because the sales person assured me I could get it installed right away. After completing the purchase they said it would be done after 4pm. (Not right away.). So I came back another day. 2nd try. Called first then came in around 1p because I was assured it would be "4 hrs Max." Hung out with my 5 yr old in the shopping plaza all afternoon, came back at 7p (6hrs later) and the car had not moved. Apparently there was a miscommunication with the install techs. They finally did the install, which took 30 mins, and gave me a $40 partial refund on the installation. The refund was nice, but if you are planning to get work done here, better plan to leave your car all day--even if they tell you otherwise. read more

Do not get your vehicle detailed here! Apparently they have a new guy that isn't very detailed oriented. Took my vehicle here and it was gross. I won't get into the details! I picked my vehicle up at night and I thought it looked good but the next morning I noticed it was still pretty nasty. I returned to have them finish. The staff blamed the new guy but he wasn't there and I can only blame the business for not doing a better job. My vehicle was a little better but I ended up getting a partial refund. So now I will find a different place to go and will have to spend more money than what was refunded. I won't be returning to Car Toys! I arrived at 9:30 am for an interior car detailing and they tried to sell me on a $220 package which I initially agreed to and then as I was filling out paperwork I saw a notice for a $99 special deal that no one mentioned- it was a lot less thorough of course but all I needed. i opted for that package and we agreed that I could pick up my car by 3:30pm same day. The contract I signed clearly said 3:30 pm and I had to pick up my kid at 4pm nearby. I got there at 3:20pm and they said that they still had several hours to go on the job, that typically they don't have pick up until 5:30 or 6 and that nobody had communicated to the guys doing the work that it needed to be ready at 3:30. Frustrating. In the end the job looked great but the aggravation and poor communication and no discount (though they did do some extra cleaning) was enough that I wouldn't come here again. read more

I would like to give this place less than 1 star if possible. They are the biggest rip offs in town. I purchased a cell phone with an additional warranty which nearly doubled the price of the smart phone. When the phone died on me some 4 months later, I took it back to Car Toys. They spent an hour giving me the run around and clearly were not going to help. They sent me away telling me to come back the next day when the manager would be there. I did. He told me they couldn't help. I called Verizon, my cell phone provider. They said, "No Problem, it's still under your 1 year warranty" and sent me a brand new cell phone. Not only did Car Toys rip me off for the warranty charges, but they wouldn't even honor the standard cell phone warranty from the provider. Don't go here, whatever you do. read more

Bought (non OEM) headlights from them a year ago. Paid $180 for two new bulbs in my Audi A4. Bulbs failed after having them installed for only a year. Car Toys people said they failed after a year because "they are much brighter than original OEM bulbs" even though these bulbs were not noticeably brighter. The original bulbs I had in my car lasted 12 years, Car Toys bulbs lasted 1 year. They were not helpful at all too when I came in explaining the situation and they merely explained that they are out of the one year manufacturer warranty, then proceeded to try and sell me the same bulb that died after a year. Not only do they sell crappy, cheap products on huge up-sell, but their employees are of no help whatsoever. Avoid. read more

Overpriced and not honest!! GO SOMEWHERE ELSE I went in there and ordered a full setup for my truck, front AND rear speakers, tweeters, plus amp and sub. The price was way more then I wanted to spend, so the salesman knocked it down a few hundred and got closer to my ballpark. I asked (to the exact words)... "that price includes everything we talked about from the beginning, front & rear speakers, tweeters and sub and amp, no changes at all, correct?" He replies, "yes, no changes exact same" I agree to the price and come pickup the truck the next day. They gave me back the front stock speakers, I asked where the stock rear speakers were. He replied "we couldn't do the rear speakers with your budget." I was never told a thing or aware of not getting rear speakers and still charged me the exact same amount. I was stuck and it was my word against his. What kind of BS and dishonest shop are these people running?!?! My mistake, I should of read their reviews before doing business. read more

Genuine customer service, walked me through the options, did not try some crazy up sell on items that I didn't need or wanted at this time. I came in for a remote starter, they provided me a written quote and I said I would be back the next day. I am someone that needs time to think about a $600 purchase. I went back, install completed on time and here is the unexpected part. The previous owner installed a remote starter (I didn't know this) so the installation team worked with what the SUV had, versus just installing the new device. They didn't need to do that, but they did, my cost went from $600 to $225. Honestly goes a long way and I would recommend the shop. read more

Anyone who has a high opinion of this place must not have had a reason to take their dashboards apart anytime afterward. My daughter bought a used Audi 5 years ago and 2 years after that went to Car Toys to have a stereo installed. She was complaining that it wasn't working well, and we now know why. My husband, an Audi mechanic by profession, had to install a new heater core for her, which required taking apart the dash. The damage that was done when they jammed the stereo in was awful....plastic parts to the air conditioner and other surrounding parts broken, wires butchered that went to other parts....this was anything but a professional job. Don't think that because you can't see it, it's well done. And if anything in your dash goes wrong, suspect the work done by Car Toys. My husband wanted to go in and tell them how he felt in front of customers.....I explained that this is what Yelp reviews are for. read more

When she went in to get her car detailed, per agreement, they tried to change the deal by raising her car detailing $100 without any known reason. They were truly taking advantage of her. Bought a 2k system radio and camera , have had to return now 3 times for faulty installation. And on one occasion dropped the car off and then came back only to find they never even looked at it ! Had a install here in 2010. Was ok with it at first. The sub installed with custom box sounds good. Had custom door separates put in with holes cut in doors.Pricey for what I got. The speakers fall out of the doors. Brought it back for repairs. They still fall out. They just had one screw that was tapped into the metal of the door. The rest were in the cloth/board of the original door. No ring mount or reinforcement was made at the beginning or to fix the problem. Was expensive for what I got. I just got a new car and took the system out of my old one and was not impressed on the lack of materials used on my system. Amps each had two screws to hold them down not four! Noticed a lot of electrical tape that was coming undone. I will not go back to have my next system installed by this shop or this company. Just wanted to share that was charged way to much on quality of work, service and price. read more

I have quite a bit of experience with cars and could have very easily installed my system myself but chose not to because it would save me time and i didnt feel like dealing with it. My bill at the end of the day was about $1370 with about $500 of that being install cost. I know for a fact that is a money making gig at that price for a speaker, stereo and sub install. So i expect a near perfect install. Now they have a huge selection of popular brands for stereos and speakers and everything else your cars sounds system will need which is great. But there install time is ridiculous. I brought my car in on a Friday evening to be worked on the next day. It was supposed to be done at 5 on Saturday. When i didn't receive a call i called in only to find out they aren't going to be done until 2 on Sunday. Come Sunday its done at about 1:30 and i check everything put to see if it works to find one rear speaker doesn't work and a door panel isn't installed correctly. I told this to them and they went back and fixed the speaker but not the door panel. The factory speaker wire was bad I guess which is fine but seriously they didn't check to make sure everything worked? Probably a half a week later the front tweeters cut in and out. They didn't hook up an interior door handle correctly either. So i take it back and without charge they blame factory wires again and fix that. I make them fix the door panel mentioned earlier and make that speaker stop vibrating due to poor mounting. I also make them fix the handle. Now a couple weeks later i had a light go bad in my driver door so i took the panel off to fix that only to find a bunch of extra wire in the door and junk wire splicers that crimp on to the wires and dont last long at all. So that pissed me off but i put the door panel back on and went on my way. Then i lifted the floor in the trunk to check my spare tire and i see the ground for the amp has an eyelit for a screw like normal and a screw grounded to the car like normal, however there were two more screws pinning it down because the first screw was loose pr something i imagine. Ill be redoing this whole system on my own as i get time. Im glad i didn't take my classic truck to them. I wish i had looked for reviews before going there. read more

Called to see if they had a part for my wiring harness. Confirmed they had it and I should come in. I get in there and spoke to the person I talked to on the phone, he said that he meant they have wiring components but not the one I needed. I then asked if the sales people are the ones installing the equipment, they confirmed. Asked a simple question about wiring to the ignition harness and both of them just sat there texting on their phones and say they had no clue what I was talking about. Extremely rude. Ripped me off so hard on a Groupon. Paid $99 was told on arrival the Groupon didn't cover pet hair removal ( was previously uninformed). The guy told me they wouldn't be able to use my Groupon unless I paid for the pet hair removal. They also told me they wouldn't get the crack between my seat and console unless I paid for them to take out the seats ( what's the point of a detail if that doesn't get clean?) Even though the Groupon directly states they vacuum and clean all the "nooks and crannies". By the end of our time together I was paying a whopping $250 (for 3 single services) over what I had already paid for the Groupon to come to a grand total of $350. By the time I left I was a sad and confused and the more I sit here and think about it the more livid I am. Also I looked up the detailing packages and the most expensive one is like $170 for a small car so even if I doubled that for a larger car it would only be $240. What the hell car toys?! You guys are greasy little rip offs. read more

Sure wish I had checked reviews and BBB complaints on this company before purchasing anything. So disgusted with this location and company from the store level all the way up to corporate. I purchased a remote start system for my vehicle and when I picked it up, my key remotes were destroyed. The top part of my keys fall off, the key remotes no longer lock or unlock my vehicle, they do not arm the alarm, the trunk button will not pop my trunk....they are useless. I went and discussed the issue with "James" the installation manager, who was rude from the beginning. He rudely asked me "well what do you want me to do???" after I refused to let him just glue the top of the key back on. He stated he would get a hold of his district manager to replace the keys. A week goes by, I hear nothing, so I decide to call for an update. "James" rudely tells me that "I told you I would contact you when I heard back from the district manager, which I have not". Ok then.......I thanked him and hung up. A week later he calls me and tells me that he has been unable to reach the district manager so he would be contacting corporate. He calls me two days later and states that corporate has denied my request to replace the keys because "this kind of thing happens to keys." Obviously annoyed, I requested contact information for corporate. "James" refuses to give me the info to contact corporate (as if I don't know how to use Google) and tells me he is refusing because "this is where this ends." I don't remember ever being treated so poorly by a business. I contact corporate and leave a message, and receive a phone call the next day apologizing for James' rude behavior but still refusing to replace they keys, now stating that the keys were never dismantled in the installation process. Now I am confused, one person is telling me that this type of thing happens.....and the other is telling me that even though I brought in perfectly functioning keys that are now basically useless after a few hours in their possession, they could not have possibly caused the damage. Someone or all of them are completely dishonest and clearly have no integrity. So after paying over $400.00 for a remote start system, I am supposed to spend another $400.00 to replace keys that this company clearly destroyed. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and after three weeks, the complaint was closed, unresolved, because the Car Toys Corporate office refused to answer the Better Business Bureau regarding my complaint. This tells me everything I will ever need to know about this company and it should be a warning sign for anyone else considering using this company! I will never step foot in this store or any Car Toys location ever again!!!! read more

We had a great experience on Saturday afternoon with our old Volvo XC-90. Our amplifier had gone out and the unit had been stuck on maximum volume. I thought one of our speakers was blown also. Instead of paying the dealership price we selected a simple Alpine unit from Car Toys and bumped up the power with an amp. When we picked up the car several hours later the sound was fabulous. Turned out the speakers were all fine although I had told Car Toys that I would pay to have the speakers replaced if one was blown. Although Volvos can be notoriously hard to work on they had a dash kit for our old 2004 model and the new install looks great. We were not taken advantage of and we understood everything we were paying for. The only oddity was our Volvo had error messages coming up - we set up an appointment and took the car to Car Toys several days later and they reset the system to fix our codes in about 30 minutes. Now we have a brand new system that's better than ever along with an I-pod plug in. Overall, we had a great experience and I would not hesitate to go back there. read more

I was shown a Kenwood Auto Receiver that had features I wanted when I went in to Cartoys in Boulder. The model I was shown had the HD radio feature which was a nice to have. The price shown was $229 including installation. I decided on that unit and thought that was the unit that the sales person was quoting me when we moved to the sales terminal. Installation kit of parts was additional (about $50), an extra hard wire $45 (not expected). So at this point I thought the model I was buying had HD... not so. But I did not know until it was installed the next day. My mistake for not verifying at the time of sale, their mistake in telling me the model I was buying had HD. So be very wary when buying what they are showing you is what will be delivered - VERIFY. I was happy with the installation. The Receiver works well, but I wish it had HD radio as promised. After I got home I saw the HD radio was a $70 additional feature - not $70 worth. Cheers! read more
