Two weeks later -- the check engine light came on again. When I told Carla that I would not continue making payments until the car was properly fixed, she became upset instead of trying to help. I asked if we could work something out to get me into a different vehicle, and I was told, "This would happen to any of the cars on our lot." That response alone says everything. Today I went to the dealership just to retrieve some personal belongings from my car and saw "REPO" written on the side. This was shocking, as I personally drove the car there, it was never repossessed, and I was never notified of anything related to a repo. When I started having problems with the car I was told "this never happened," This dealership has been dishonest, unprofessional, and dismissive throughout this entire ordeal. I originally came in specifically for a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle that was advertised online as CPO. After arriving at the dealership, I was informed the vehicle was actually not certified and only had around 500 miles remaining on the factory warranty. Despite that, the pricing remained consistent with what would typically be expected for a certified vehicle, and I was then encouraged to purchase an additional $3,000 extended warranty instead. As a buyer, that was extremely disappointing and felt misleading. On top of that, several promises made during the sales process were not properly followed through on, including the tint request. Communication throughout the process was poor, and expectations were not clearly managed. The vehicle also was not thoroughly detailed before delivery, as I am still finding personal belongings and food debris from the previous owner under the seats and floor mats. I want to be clear that my frustration is more with the dealership process than with any one individual employee. However, attention to detail, transparency, and follow-through are exactly why customers choose Sewell and pay Sewell-level prices. While I did end up getting the car I wanted I came in expecting exceptional service and a true Certified Pre-Owned buying experience, and unfortunately left with neither.

None of those fancy Italian or German roadsters for me. And when it's time for service, I take my hot rod to Ray Huffines Chevrolet in Plano. No, I didn't buy my speedster at Huffines. Actually, I bought it in New Jersey, so I had to figure out a local Chevrolet dealer for my continuing service needs. After several service runs to other dealerships shortly after buying it that were less than satisfactory, I settled on Huffines. Why? Well, let me count the ways. This is my fourth America's Sports Car over the past twenty years. Prior to this one, I took my cars to several other Chevy dealerships in the Dallas area. And getting service from most of them was like being staked to an ant hill on a broiling August day. Matter of fact, most of the time, I would have chosen the ant hill. But over my five or six visits to Huffines, my service advisors have been timely upon my arrival and pleasant to deal with. And their estimates of the service cost and time frame have always been spot on. The waiting area is typical for a Chevy dealership. No fancy expresso machines, complimentary champagne, and hors d'oeuvres that you might find at your Lamborghini dealership. Again, this is a CHEVROLET dealership. And while you might not drive America's sports car, I'd bet that Huffines would be good for your Chevy Malibu, or maybe even some other vehicle brands. But if you do drive a Lamborghini, I'd probably play it safe at the Lambo dealership, especially if they serve some of those fancy Canapés while you're sipping a nice vintage of Dom Perignon.

At just 6,000 miles, I experienced a serious issue with the truck. About a week ago, I was stopped at a red light and, when the light turned green, I pressed the accelerator but the truck wouldn't move. After a brief moment, it returned to normal, so I didn't think much of it. Then last night, while driving home from Walmart, the same thing happened again, except this time it was much worse. Multiple warning lights came on stating that several systems had malfunctioned, and the truck went into what appeared to be a reduced-power mode. I couldn't drive more than 50 MPH, and every time I pressed the accelerator, the truck would sputter, hesitate, or simply not respond with any power. In my opinion, that's a major safety concern, especially with the amount of traffic we deal with in the DFW area. What makes this even more frustrating is that this is a truck that cost close to $90,000. For a vehicle at that price point, having these kinds of major drivability and safety-related issues at only 6,000 miles is ridiculous and incredibly disappointing. I understand that defects can happen, but when you're spending nearly $90K on a premium truck, you expect both the vehicle and the support behind it to be significantly better. When I contacted the service department, I expected at least some sense of urgency. Instead, I was told my only option was to drop the truck off and wait approximately three days just for diagnostics because they are backed up. To make matters worse, my service advisor wasn't particularly friendly and showed very little concern about the situation, even after reviewing my vehicle information and seeing that multiple fault codes had been triggered. The dealership also had no loaner vehicles available, meaning I would be without transportation during the entire process. First impressions matter, and it's disappointing that I haven't even made it to my first scheduled service before having this kind of experience with the service department. While the sales team earned my business, the service experience has left me seriously questioning whether I'll return to this dealership for future maintenance or repairs. A great purchase experience means very little if the dealership isn't there for its customers when a serious problem arises.

Buyer Beware -- My Experience with HCC Specialty Cars…read more In December 2024, I agreed to buy a 1986 Porsche 930 from HCC Specialty Cars. I flew down on December 8th to inspect the car. When I arrived, I was told they had just pulled it out -- but the engine was already warm, which seemed odd. We went for a drive, and I was told the car had been serviced and came with a binder showing about $140,000 in documented work over its lifetime. During the test drive, I noticed a few small issues. I asked for them to be fixed before delivery, and they assured me they would take care of everything. None of those things were addressed. Later, Patrick (the owner) told me he was disappointed in his team and said he had personally inspected the car though what that inspection involved is still unclear. One thing that blows me away is him saying that he had the car serviced and the oil filter was 12 years old when we got it serviced. 12 years old! The car was delivered to me on December 23rd. The delivery company had trouble getting it started. A few days later, I let HCC know the car wasn't running right. the battery kept dying, and the idle would fluctuate so badly at night that the car nearly stalled. I brought it to Patrick Motorsports, one of the most respected Porsche shops in the country. They replaced the battery and advised me to drive it briefly, but more issues came up almost immediately. The car felt unreliable, and I was constantly worried it would break down. I contacted Patrick again, and we both agreed it needed a full evaluation and repair. I did end up spending over $70,000 to make this car right. I did not expect Patrick to reimburse me this amount but I did expect him to make it right. He never did nor has he attempted to. As the list of issues grew, Patrick started becoming harder to reach. He told me he was overwhelmed and dealing with a lot of other cars. I encouraged him multiple times to speak directly with Kyle at Patrick Motorsports, who could explain exactly what they found. Patrick made one call to Kyle, but never returned any of the three calls Kyle made back to him. Once I mentioned I was planning to go public with my complaints, Patrick said he might offer some kind of financial concession. Then he told me he should perhaps just save it for legal fees. At the end of the day, this comes down to character. Patrick talks a good game, seems sincere, and has a great story but in my experience, he didn't follow through on anything that mattered. He didn't stand behind the car, didn't communicate honestly, and didn't make things right. If you're thinking about buying from HCC Specialty Cars, don't take anyone's word for it. get the car independently inspected before you commit. I didn't, and it cost me.

Given this goal, finding peak NA Porsches has been a challenge. I have had great luck with purchasing Porsche CPOs but finding my final dream NA bucket list car proved difficult. I therefore decided to expand my search to boutique, exotic dealerships. This is when we came across HCC Specialty Cars in Dallas. Since my better half and I both needed to agree on this final dream car we were looking to share, HCC had one that we were able to compromise on and agree on. The dealer's owner Patrick was highly responsive to all our various questions. Since we weren't prepared to fly out to Texas, we were essentially relying completely on photos, videos, CarFax and the word of Patrick. Since he was a real straight shooter, we felt satisfied with the car and decided to move forward. We put in an offer that was accepted. After that, Patrick assisted with getting some additonal work done on the car before assisting with making arrangements to ship the car out from TX. After the car shipping company delivered the car, there were some unexpected hiccups with the car. Thankfully nothing mechanical...just annoying items that pestered the perfectionist sides of my wife and I. We immediately reached out to Patrick and he did do his best to try to problem solve and work through the issues. In the end, I did have to also enlist the help of my trusty Porsche contact at my local dealership. Long story short, everything all worked out in the end which is what ultimately matters. Overall, given the selection of great NA classics in HCC's inventory and what a professional, standup guy the owner Patrick is, HCC is highly recommended as far as boutique dealerships go!

When driving from where I received the truck, the check engine light came on. I notified him of this issue and he said to have it fixed locally and he would reimburse me. It has been several months and many texts and calls and still no reimbursement. Up until this point, David lived up to his word but I am extremely disappointed to have to write a partial negative review due to not receiving this promised reimbursement. In addition, the check engine issue took two times to resolve, the second requiring an additional cost which I decided to absorb thinking I would get the promised reimbursement.
