We picked up the car on June 27, 2026, and were charged approximately $2,880. On July 2, 2026, the car overheated while my mother was driving in New Haven, a few miles from home. The next day, in Derby, CT, the car began stalling whenever shifted into drive or reverse. We called the dealership July 3 (holiday weekend, no return call) and had the car towed to Colonial Toyota on July 6. That evening, a secretary called to confirm a "new car purchase" appointment we never made. On July 7, Service Representative Dinorah Melendez told us a fan needed replacing ($1,255) and that the transmission couldn't be diagnosed until the fan was replaced. We had the car towed to an independent mechanic instead, who found no fan-related code and believes the vehicle's condition changed after it left Colonial Toyota's shop. Before we had the car towed, a salesperson, Jason Umpierre, called my mother repeatedly trying to get her to buy a new car, then told us in person that the Rogue was "only worth $1,000" -- despite the dealership having just recommended roughly $3,000 in additional repairs on it days earlier. On July 8, 2026, we emailed Colonial Toyota staff requesting: (1) copies of all repair orders/invoices from the last six months, including what was diagnosed vs. authorized vs. performed; (2) diagnostic and technician notes on the transmission before and after the June service; and (3) documentation supporting the $1,000 valuation. We received no response. Separately, we have never received a satisfactory response regarding my mother's original May 30, 2023 purchase of this vehicle, in which she was sold a car for roughly 82% above its market value at the time, with additional financed add-ons (a $3,400 mechanical breakdown contract and $995 GAP contract) that brought total payments to over $31,500 on a car worth roughly $11,000 at purchase.
