When I reviewed the CarFax, it clearly showed that the car had 33k miles in 2012 at its biannual smog check, however the odometer showed just a little over 9k. I purchased a Ford Focus from this dealership last month and I must say I enjoyed my experience and still enjoy my car today. Car 1234 is a USAA authorized dealer and I that is how I was able to find them. I live in Lemon Grove so if it weren't for their website I probably would never find them. As soon as I saw the car I knew it was perfect for me because it was compact and fit my price limit! They included all of the important details on the website regarding the car and great pictures. The day I went to the dealership I met with Mike and he was very laid back and professional. I told him the car that I wanted to test and he gave me the keys and allowed me to take the car for a test drive on my own. I appreciate him doing that so I could relax and comfortably test out the car. I did not take the car that day because I still wasn't sure about trading in my jeep. I was not happy with my experience here. I feel that I wasted time by going here. I was told that there would be a discount. I sat down to negotiate based on the promise of that discount. Fees were then added to the price then removed which was called the "discount". I do not feel that I was dealt with honestly. I had the distinct feeling of being "jacked around". Double check how long cars have been for sale here on carguru. The advertised price is excellent, but their cars don't sell. I believe now that the reason that they don't sell is that this dealer is adding fees and not dealing with their customers honestly at the time of sale. I understand that the car business is tough. Never in my life did I think I would like or recommend a used car dealer! Car 1234 deserves your attention should you be in the market for a used car. My need for a used car was an immediate need. My wife totaled her 2003 Honda Element in a lapse of driving attention (fortunately nobody was injured). My insurance company is USAA (God I love USAA!) who quickly provided a rental car for one week. The clock was immediately ticking to find a used car to replace the Element. No new cars match what we liked about the Element so we focused on finding another Element. Honda discontinued the Element in 2011 so new was not an option. The USAA website provided a link to Car 1234 in El Cajon which showed two Honda Elements on their lot. So without an appointment we drove to Car 1234. Upon arrival we were greeted by Joel. I was pleasantly surprised by Joel who cordially answered our questions without performing the hard sell I had expected. My wife liked one of the Elements so I asked Joel if before purchase I could take it for an independent mechanical inspection. Joel politely gave me permission so same day I took the Element to my favorite car repair shop (John's Automotive, see separate review). John's gave me a detailed inspection report which showed no major deficiencies but noted some items (hoses, etc.) needing replacement. Upon returning the vehicle I met with Car 1234 owner Mike. Mike agreed to have a nearby shop address most of the listed items. So in one day we had a deal to purchase the Honda Element. Mike - If you're reading this here's an inexpensive recommendation to improve Car 1234 business operations - Get new printers! Printing the purchase agreement took forever using old printers. One final clarification regarding other posted reviews. Some reviewers complained that it took two months to receive vehicle title in the mail. My title also took two months to come by mail. But let's be clear, this delay is 100% the underfunded California DMV and not Car 1234. Next time I'm in the market for a used vehicle, Car 1234 will get my first look! read more

I didn't have a "problem-free" experience with Car 1234. I bought a vehicle from them, and I had trouble with it. I give Car 1234 a five-star review not because I had no problems, but because Car 1234 responded quickly to address my problems. I never expect much from a business "after the sale," but Car 1234 exceeded my expectations. In candor, I try not to buy vehicles from dealers. I have found, through bitter experience, that it's often more difficult to get "the real story" from a dealer (who might not even know it), and the prices are almost always higher than one would pay a private party. After spending 2 months looking on Craigslist for something very specific (late 90s Dodge Ram 4x4/regular cab/V10/manual transmission), I finally found one "on the lot" at Car 1234 and drove down to El Cajon from Van Nuys to see it. I liked it and made a deal with Mike with a price I found fair, even on a "private party" basis.. A few days later, I took the train down and Mike's colleague Robert picked me up and took me to the dealership (a 45-minute drive!). I drove the truck home and was happy with it...until the clutch started slipping after I put about 300 miles on it. WIthin another 50 miles, the clutch was slipping so bad I couldn't drive the truck at speeds exceeding 40 miles an hour without red-lining the tachometer. I called Mike and, to my great surprise and gratitude...HE HONORED THE WARRANTY THAT COMES WITH EVERY VEHICLE THEY SELL! Can you believe it? I bought a truck, a mechanical problem developed and the dealer honored the warranty that came with the truck (a 15 year-old truck, no less). When you buy a used vehicle, you "roll the dice." You never know what you're getting, and the seller doesn't really know what he or she is selling. Older vehicles break down -- that's just the way it is. Finding an honest car dealer who promptly honors his obligations after he has your money is a rare, rare thing, and I recommend Mike and his colleagues enthusiastically and without reservation. read more

I have waited a few months to write this review, as I wanted to make sure the car we bought stood up to the standards that Car1234 says they try to meet every day. IT DOES. I took the car to an trusted local mechanic and he said the car was in perfect working order. I have seen some of the reviews that say the owner is dismissive or not as communicative - we didn't find this to be the case. They are busy, and have a busy lot with lots of people looking all the time, but when we came to buy the sales staff took care to make sure everything was in order and that we got what we wanted. Test driving the cars was no problem. The mechanic is on site most of the time and you can ask him directly what he did to the car after the received it and before they sell it. Transparency! So to sum this up: We got the car we wanted for about 15% less than other car dealerships, the car worked perfectly (its a 3 year old car), we were treated respectfully on the lot, and we will BE BACK for other purchases. read more

I drove 1 1/2 hours to get to this place because of its excellent reviews, I want to warn everyone out there so that you don't end up being treated like me. At the beginning it seem to be ok even do we had to walk into the office to get help because no one came out to greet me and my husband. Anyway I will try to keep this short, this guy was ok helping until he asked how much we were going to give down and immediately said we would not get approved unless we gave a bigger down payment, and didn't even want to run my credit. After asking him at least 3 times to just check to see if we could get a loan he agreed. He submitted my information and then acted very surprised that I was approved he said "Oh I really was not expecting that" ... WTF So I let it go because I fell in love with the car and really wanted it, then he went thru the process and said everything was good but that I would have to give him my deposit and he would not give me the car for at least 2 days while he confirmed that my information was correct because according to him "People come in here all the time with false documents" and I could be lying about who I was, plus he said "I need to get paid by the lending company I can't just be giving out cars, when I get paid you take your car" I have never felt this humiliated I don't like to play the racist card but I really feel this guy simply treated me like this because of the way I looked. We left the dealer and said we would call him and he tried to fix it and said "I don't want you to do the drive 3 times, why don't you just sing the contract now and then you only have to come back to pick up your car once I verify your papers" We left and he never even bother to even call us to follow up. It has been a week so far. So much for wanting our business. I went to another dealer that same day and drove off with a better car and a much better deal than what he was offering with a lower down payment. When I first bought my car a year ago, I thought the service was great and they were helpful and nice. The deals they have on cars are pretty good; I got my 2002 BMW 325ci, 97,000 miles for about $8000. I bought the car and paid to have trimming fixed as well and I was told they would let me know when to come back to get it fixed. Months and months later after my mom and I contacted them, it was not fixed, no calls, nothing. I first called and they said they got the wrong part--they never told me about this--then told me to tell them what I need. Still no follow up with me. I drive over there to tell them they never fixed my car which ended up causing a leakage problem that BMW quoted me a grand to pay off. I complained this problem to Mike, he was a little rude and annoyed at me and told me I was supposed to come in to get it fixed--which makes no sense of how I'm supposed to know when to come in or when the parts are ready. He continued to make me feel like I was at fault until he finally said he would fix the problems. He was helpful and nice later on. Understanding it wasn't completely Mike's fault I'll give him a better review. However I don't appreciate the huge lack of communication for a span of a year to get something fixed after I paid for it. Unprofessional. read more

We bought a 2005 Jetta here and had a pretty good experience. It was listed above the KBB price, but they came down enough that we were willing to buy. The car itself is amazing with low mileage and no problems, though we did buy the 6 month warrantee just in case ($250). Customer service was solid, no problems. We ran into other customers who said they always buy their used cars from this place. My only complaint was that it took nearly two months to get my registration and title because of an issue with the original title being from another state. I would have been okay with the wait except that when I went in to ask, the worker gave me a date that the plates would be in. Then when I returned, they still weren't there. That happened twice. I was nervous that I may need to get involved and take care of the issue with the dmv myself, but then the plates suddenly arrived. What a relief! Overall, good place. I absolutely love the Scion TC I purchased from Car 1234 back in March of 2015. I worked with Robert who is very easy to speak with and down to earth. He answered all my questions and was able to work with me to get a good deal. I would have given more stars but some things that were supposed to be taken care of did not go as planned. - I was supposed to have a key less entry ordered which I still haven't received (and am pretty sure never will) - A tire light sensor that was on when I bought the car and was told it was easy to turn off. I've taken the car to 2 different tire places and they still could not turn off the sensor. - Registration that took a couple of months to get and was never told the exact amount and that it was ready for pick up until I called. My experience buying a car here was about as positive as you could hope for from a used car dealership. I purchased a 2005 Dodge Dakota from here in September and as I drove it off the lot it immediately developed a 4WD issue, and to be honest I kind of expected something like that to happen. I then contacted the dealer (Mano/Mike) about the issue and he had me bring it in to be looked at. When I got my truck back they had completely fixed the 4WD issue in addition to another major issue with a tapping valve that showed up after I had dropped the truck off. The bill came out to be exactly $0.00 and he renewed my warranty from that date. Now you may think "Well that sounds like what should have happened." and you would be right, it IS what SHOULD have happened and it DID happen. Later finding out parts of the car were repainted. Most def worth spending a little more for a car and not getting tricked into buying a car that's been in an accident. I was looking for a Mazda in my price range and one of the first searches that came up was car 1234. It's a small private lot run by a few gents who seemingly know their way around cars. While I still am fighting my bank to get my finances in order, I want to comment about the service here. These guys sound like they care about what they do and the product they pitch. They also take care of the vehicles and make repair assessments on them as needed. Car1234 has paid me back but there is an outstanding issue with the license plates from my PA vehicle that we are still working to resolve. However, I cannot yet restore my review to a full 5 stars because of this outstanding issue that could potentially cause serious issues for me in the future. Update!!! DO NOT BUY A CAR FROM CAR1234!!!! About 9 months after I purchased a car and traded in my old one, I saw my old Subaru driving on the 5 in San Diego WITH MY OLD PENNSYLVANIA LICENSE PLATES. I was even able to snag a picture of the car. I knew the PA registration would have been expired for at least 8 months, as I sold it right before. So Car1234 sold my vehicle with the PA plates still on it. Of course I started receiving parking tickets and expired registration tickets on the Subaru. I consistently contacted Car1234 to get them to contact the new owners and give them their plates and get them to pay these tickets. Robert insisted that I wasn't liable for the tickets because I didn't own the vehicle, even though I kept telling him the Ca DMV told me there was absolutely no way out of it unless the me owner agreed to pay me. Robert said the new owners were refusing to come pick up their new plates.Car1234 was not helpful AT ALL and were frustrated with me that I was upset at the whole thing. The tickets eventually went into collections. I contested the ticket formally with an email and all the evidence showing I relinquished ownership of the vehicle the year prior and never heard anything more from them. Then, almost a year later, I had the amount of the tickets, over $100, deducted from my state tax return. I was able to find the new owner of my car on Facebook and sent them a message detailing the whole thing. They responded back that it wasn't their fault because Car1234 had refused to give them their plates and had had a terrible experience with them. I don't know who is lying in the situation but the whole thing caused months of frustration and hours on the telephone with Car1234, my insurance company, the DMV, the collections office, and I still ended up paying for it. Jeff was very eager and helpful. They have a nice selection of used cars and Jeff is very knowledgeable. The test drive was very pleasant and includes both city and highway driving for a total of about 20-25 minutes. They are very genuine and don't try to push anything on you. They also recommended some mechanics near them for any sort of work. I first came across Car 1234 a couple of weeks ago as my fiance' and I are currently in the market for a second car. I came across an ad they had placed on Auto Trader for a 2000 VW Passat and then on Saturday, we drove down and test drove it along with 2 other vehicles. At the time, they seemed friendly and helpful; especially Greg. While I couldn't make a purchase that day, I asked Greg that when I did come back if I there would be any problem if I took the car to my regular mechanic to have it looked over before I started talking about money; he stated that it wouldn't be a problem. Two weeks later, I had plans to go back down on Saturday. However, two days before I was going to head back down there; I saw the the car had been sold. Looking over their website, I saw two 1999 Mitsubishi Galants that caught my interest. So on Saturday, my fiance' and I drove back down there and found that they are in the process of moving to a new location and that one of the Galants was at that location. So we drove over and met up with David, one of the salespeople who went on a test drive with us. The car was ok but I wasn't feeling it and as we were about to leave, my fiance spotted a silver 2001 Audi A4 Quattro that looked sharp. I asked David the price, he told me $5900 then got the keys and we took it for a quick test drive. I had already contacted my regular mechanic and asked him if he could fit me in for a Pre Purchase inspection, he told me no problem. I asked David if it would be ok, he said it shouldn't be an issue. So we drove back over to the previous location as I had to leave a copy of my license and also because David would be coming along (I was told that a few weeks prior, a couple had taken a vehicle to get it inspected and when they got the results back, they didn't like them; so they left car there and Mike who I believe is the owner, had to pay the bill and arrange to have the car brought back). After I had them make a copy of my license; Mike asked me if If I was planning on paying cash or financing (during this time he told me the vehicle was going for $6400 and he got corrected twice by his own colleagues that it was for $5900 after I told him that it was the price David had quoted me). I told him that at that point I wanted to have the car looked at so I can know what I am dealing with as I didn't want any surprises after paying a good deal of money (side note; I had already looked at the Carfax report for the car and seen that it had been in a previous accident). He then became adamant that I had to be pre approved before I could take the car to the mechanic. In all the times I have ever bought a car, known anyone who has bought a car, or known anyone who has worked as car salesperson; this was a first. I again reiterated to him that at this point before I talked about money, I wanted to have the car inspected to know what I am dealing with and that when I came back, we could talk finances then. He then again became even more adamant about being pre approved for financing before I took the car as he didn't want me to waste my time if he couldn't finance. I told him that I had plenty of time today and that he wasn't going to be paying for the inspection, I was. Finally he agreed to let me take it to my mechanic and David came along with me. My mechanic looked it over for about an hour and after he was finished, he called me outside. While the car looked and seemed good to go, it had some serious issues under the hood (and should anyone from Car1234 have any qualms about what was found, I still have the report from my mechanic): -The vehicle had been previously painted; probably due to the accident mentioned on Carfax. -The fenders were missing the VIN stickers. -There was a noticeable oil leak coming from the upper engine -Scratches on the front and rear bumpers -Multiple chips in the windshield -The transmission was shifting hard -The front and rear shocks needed to be replaced -The front tires had wear due to an alignment issue. -Both CV boots are torn -The timing belt needed to be replaced -One bulb on the license plate light was out. -Broken internal vent. My mechanic recommended that I shouldn't buy this vehicle because it was going to need some serious work. He couldn't give me a estimate of how much because it would require more time get into some in depth time on the hoist. When I asked him as rough ballpark if it would be $2000 minimum; he said "very easily so". As I was driving back with David, I told him honestly that financing or paying cash; I would not pay $5900 for the car as it is. When we got back, I explained to Mike that there was no way I could pay $5900 for the car in that condition. I told him if he were to fix the major issues, I would pay $3500 cash. He said that was less than what he paid for it and then tried to tell me they had replaced the timing belt by showing us small key tag and couldn't produce a receipt or invoice. I just had the worst experience. First, I let Robert know that I was driving 1 1/2 hours to come look at the 2011 Ford Fiesta. I get there, first off he was not very professional with communication. Then I get there, for 5 minutes. Look at it, I'm very interested for him to look me in the face and say "we spoke about the salvage title right?" Ummmm, nooooo!!!! Recently purchased a 2007 Suzuki Forenza from the fine folks at car 1234 and it would've been the car from hell initially if not for the excellent treatment. Went to this dealership to look at a 2007 XC90 and the customer service was really good. Just be aware that while I was inspecting the vehicle I asked if I could remove the skid plate from under the engine bay to see if it had an oil lead and sure enough it did. So if anyone reads this just know to check under the car and to remove the skid plate. It really was a shame because this car was in very good condition and I had to walk away because of the engine oil leak. read more

I spent a good month and a half looking for a used car in San Diego and after becoming absolutely sick of all the scam-artist private sellers, I decided to look into dealerships. Most dealers were over-priced fast-talkers who were more interested in making a buck than developing a strong, long-term business relationship. CAR1234 was different. Beside his superior level of professionalism, Mike is also a very hospitable and honest guy. He was extremely nice and helpful and willing to work with me on finding a price that we could both be satisfied with. I traded in my '96 Tercel and Mike even towed it down to his place all the way from Vista! For free! Greg was also very friendly over the phone and while doing paperwork. The next time I'm in the market for a car, I will certainly be going to CAR1234. UPDATE: The car I traded in has been towed and I am being harassed by LEIN ENFORCEMENT INC. for the bill. Called Mike and was told it would be sorted out on his end, only to be blown off on this matter. Mike also referred me to a an independent contractor named Dave who was supposed to buff out and paint some panels on the car I bought. Dave took my $100 and disappeared. His employees even told me he wasn't around when he had made an appointment with me. Unfortunate to be treated this way; I was hoping to do further business with Mike. read more
