Lovely state park popular for fishing. There's an indoor/outdoor restaurant on site, gift shop, clean bathrooms and playground. And you can go out in fishing boats mornings and afternoons if that's your thing. $8 parking fee. Free with the Empire pass.

Went on our Annual Fishing trip with the Dixie2 charter boat and had a great time. The staff aboard the boat were friendly and very helpful. My first catch of the day was a log!! Like literally a big piece of wood!! I was a little bummed that everything I caught had to be tossed back . Nonetheless the charter was great and they took us to several different spots to let our lines down. The staff was great and I would definitely recommend the Dixie 2 charter.

This is one of ny state parks that i never visited despite being resident for years. Glad that finally was able today. We came in to find ways to enjoy the season during this Covid time. To get back to one of his favorite things to do ( fishing), we came today as the weather forecast seemed favorable. My husband has never gone fishing and crabbing for ages . Glad he let me come today. My experience was unforgettable. On first visit , we were ate at east side fishing pier . It is long and maintained. It has a built in chair on the lower level. The upper level is likely designed for walkers . I have noticed numerous post lamps and looked that the place is well lit during dark. On second visit, we tried the west side fishing pier. It is longer . Water is shallow . The location is close to a picnic area which is good if have more company. If coming in after 7 am, the parking fee is $8. There are plenty of fishing boats for rental and accepts ticketed guests for a fee. A restaurant , a tackle and bait shop , a boat dock and a pump station are located in the middle of all. Beautiful view of the sunrise was witnessed. Definitely sunset view from this park is pretty amazing too. Swimming is not permitted along the shore line. Huge parking lot.

If your into fishing, crabbing or just hanging out on the beach this is the place you need to go. It is a great family spot with plenty of different activities to choose from. You, can charter a boat to go fishing or get on one for a moonlight cruise, and if you get hungry there is a nice restaurant were you can get some good food.

This is a beautiful barrier island between Fire and Long Islands. It feels like if New York City's nature preserves were just bigger and wilder. Bonus points for having one of the longest piers I've even seen.

Who remembers the OBI? And those commercials on the radio? "Get out of New York State before it's too late!" Prescient advice ....

This is for the new bike way only. Once in a while NYS gets it right! This new bike way runs from Captree State Park to Jones Beach and Wantagh if you want to go that far (almost 20 miles). Flat and smooth, it runs right along the Ocean Parkway. Beware in summertime: little or no shade or water fountains. Other than that good job NYS (and our beleaguered governor).

Beautiful place for walks, biking, kayaking, fishing off the wonderful boardwalk, taking a fishing charter, or just soaking up some island vibes. Less crowded and more peaceful than some other nearby spots... We had lunch at Tiki Joe's, which was nice, but a picnic would have been just as nice. You'll feel like you're on vacation at some island hideaway-- Heck, a visit here to Captree IS a quick island getaway, right in your own "backyard!!"

My boyfriend and I I usually come here at least once during the summer. This winter we decided to pass by and walk the pier. Unfortunately, there was absolutely nothing going on. During the summer months people are crabbing off the pier and going on fishing excursions on the boats. I'm giving it 3 solid stars because even in the summer months the huge restaurant that's located onsite is either closed or completely empty. They have restrooms but they're a bit scary and if you're not going on an excursion or crabbing off the pier you really have nothing else to do here. They do have a small children's play area but like I said, it's small. There's nothing really bad to say about Captree. The problem is, there's nothing that makes it great either. Definitely worth visiting at least once.

Here's the Scoop: This is a fun family outing. Music, boat rides, food, vendors and games. Every year my family attends and we have a ball. The bands that play are great. They sing a variety of songs and have audience participation. The food is delicious! Many different food trucks are abound. There are tented tables as well as untented areas to sit. There's a boat ride that goes under the double span bridge and back about a 20-30 minute ride. Cotton candy, pretzels, hotdogs of course are available too. Vendors there have a wide variety of toys, jewelry, clothing and other unique items. Plenty of port-o-potties. Parking fee is what you pay to enter. Every year I've attended it's a little cool so a hoodie or sweater is needed but the breeze is lovely. Check this event out next year, it's really a nice event.

I came to captree once for fishing and crabbing. Just a disclaimer, I am very new with this fishing hobby. I have yet to catch a fish, but I did have some luck in collecting crabs with a crab cage. There is not size requirement for any of these crabs except if you catch a blue crab. I was told that catching a blue crab is extremely rare and if caught the requirement is 4.5 inches and it cannot be a female with eggs. I believe if you break the rules and get caught it's 50 dollars per female crab that has eggs. You are allowed to keep 50 crabs, again, follow the rules of face the consequences. It's also wise to follow the rules because you want there to be enough crabs for the days, months, and years to come. If you do come here and if fishing is a hobby for you, you won't be disappointed. Every time I come in always see somebody catch something, that itself is very exciting and the anticipation that you might catch something is exiliarating. Have fun fishing.

What a beautiful location to go visit in the early morning!!! It is free before 8am. The sun rise is super awesome!!

At Captree State Park, I just know the simple life. Drop the crab traps and just relax. You are surrounded by beautiful scenery. The water and breeze make you forget your concerns. So just enjoy the day of crabbing and fishing. It's straight forward- you bait the traps with chicken/fish for the crabs. Secure your line to the deck. After a few minutes, pull it up and take a look at what you catch. It's the simple life.

Another great fishing spot. Also take a bunch of boats from here to go fishing . Hit up the bridge and get stripped bass in the fall.

I stopped in recently looking for a medium light rod and reel combo for some fishing at Belmont Lake State Park and Southard's Pond. The owner greeted me like a regular, even though it was my first visit. Before pointing me toward anything, he asked the right questions -- where I'd be fishing, what I'd be targeting, whether I prefer live bait. That kind of intake matters. It's the difference between a salesman and someone who actually wants to set you up for a good day on the water. He walked me over to a display and pulled a rod, reel, and line combo -- all for $50. "This is all you need," he said. And he meant it. He could have easily steered me toward something pricier, but he didn't. That kind of honesty is rare and it earns loyalty. A few bobbers and a bag of hooks later, I walked out fully rigged and ready to go. The shop is easy to find -- right on Montauk Highway, about half a mile from the Robert Moses Causeway. It's not a massive space, but the selection is surprisingly deep, covering rods, reels, hooks, line, lures, and both fresh and frozen bait. The 4.8 stars on Google Maps aren't an accident. Highly recommended.

Upon check-in we'd learned that the limit is typically 4 people (700 lb maximum), but since most of us are pretty small we were well under that weight limit even as five people, so they allowed it (and I lived to write this review so, all good). After signing my life away and a very quick motor tutorial by a kid who looked like he couldn't be older than middle school, we were on our way. The motor on this boat took a little getting used to, but once I got the hang of it I was a pretty good captain (I'd like to think). We put down the anchor and got out to explore Bird and Gull Islands, then headed over to another beach with a hill to climb up and get a bird's eye view of the area. Before we knew it, it was time to head back to the harbor, but we kept the party going with some drinks and food (will review that separately). Jay (who I think is the owner or manager?) told us we were only allowed to rent a boat if we took a picture and it turns out he was serious (see the photo shoot results in my photos which turned out pretty cute). He took these on his phone so not sure what else he plans to do with them.

We purchased our tickets through the website: https://www.islandprincesscaptree.com. The IP is located inside New York's Captree State Park. We put "Island Princess Captree" into Google Maps and it led us straight there. Parking was $8.00 and the parking lot is a good size. The tickets indicated to please arrive at the dock by 6:00pm the latest for check-in and boarding. It was easy to locate the IP and we checked in with a staff member at the bottom of the stairs. The boat left the dock exactly at 6:30pm. About 8:00pm, we anchored and watched the sunset. Till the Grucci Fireworks Show started about 9:30pm, we were able to see fireworks in the distance in all the different towns. The boat tuned into WALK 97.5 FM which simulcasted music during the fireworks presentation. There were music by BTS, Rosé, Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA," and Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA." The Grucci Fireworks Show lasted till about 10:00pm and then the boat headed back to Captree State Park. So many people fell asleep on the way back. Free coffee and other snacks were available for purchase on the boat. My family and I enjoyed the 4th of July Fireworks Captree Cruise to Jones Beach Fireworks Show on the IP. We felt that the other fireworks shows went longer than the Grucci Fireworks Show, but it was still magnificent. It was an event that I've never participated in for the 4th of July, so it was definitely very nice and weather couldn't have been even more perfect. I had a light sweater on when it got a little chilly.
