Fishing pole setup provided by the crew.

I went out on this fishing boat this past week and i had a blast. It was the first fishing boat out of Captree that i actually saw a lot of action. This crew knew exactly where the hot spots were and just about everyone on the boat caught a keeper. The trip was for blues and bass. We only saw blues, but lots of them. What i also liked was that it was not overcrowded like the fluke boats where you are almost shoulder to shoulder with the person next to you. They're was plenty of room to move around on this boat without feeling cramped at all. The mates were very helpful and always right there when you needed them, whether it was to fix your line or help net that big catch you were trying to reel in. They were very personable and were a real pleasure to have helping you. Im not a die hard fisherman, so it made the trip more enjoyable having someone there to help and encourage me throughout the trip. There were some snacks available for sale on board such as chips and cookies. There were also several cold beverage choices and coffee. I would still recommend bringing a drink and sandwich along though. My brother and i went home with a fairly large bag of bluefish fillets. It was enough for his family of 4 plus myself to have an awesome dinner with some leftovers for the next day. All in all, i had a great time and would definitely go out again. Overall with the cost of the trip, pool entry for the largest fish, and tip for the mates, I'd say you should figure about $65 to $75 pet person total. I would recommend this fishing boat for both adults and children. In fact, a little girl who couldn't have been more than 7 or 8 years old caught the 2nd largest fish on the boat during my trip. Made for a great opportunity for me to keep reminding my brother that he was outfished by a little girl.... But then again, so was I. :-P

My go to fall striper boat. Walter knows his stuff.

Being one of the smaller state parks in New York what it lacks in size it certainly makes up for in recreation. Known for its charter fishing fleet stationed on the North side of the park which embarks daily on fishing adventures (equipment provided) on the great South Bay or North Atlantic. There are two major fishing peers in the park one on the north and my favorite that over looks the Robert Moses causeway on the south, unlike the charter boats you are on you own with equipment for fishing off the peers but the good news is that there is a bait and tackle shop located near the North peer should you need some hooks or bait. Captree offers a bar and restaurant of sorts and concession stand if you're hungry after a long day of charter boat fishing or just stop in for the occasional live music. Don't forget to take a walk or bike ride on the ocean parkway green way, the trail head begins here and ends 13.7 miles away on jones beach. Come to captree to get out in the ocean air and maybe even have a picnic if you desire, the views from the south end on the overlook beach are fantastic.

I stopped in recently looking for a medium light rod and reel combo for some fishing at Belmont Lake State Park and Southard's Pond. The owner greeted me like a regular, even though it was my first visit. Before pointing me toward anything, he asked the right questions -- where I'd be fishing, what I'd be targeting, whether I prefer live bait. That kind of intake matters. It's the difference between a salesman and someone who actually wants to set you up for a good day on the water. He walked me over to a display and pulled a rod, reel, and line combo -- all for $50. "This is all you need," he said. And he meant it. He could have easily steered me toward something pricier, but he didn't. That kind of honesty is rare and it earns loyalty. A few bobbers and a bag of hooks later, I walked out fully rigged and ready to go. The shop is easy to find -- right on Montauk Highway, about half a mile from the Robert Moses Causeway. It's not a massive space, but the selection is surprisingly deep, covering rods, reels, hooks, line, lures, and both fresh and frozen bait. The 4.8 stars on Google Maps aren't an accident. Highly recommended.

Upon check-in we'd learned that the limit is typically 4 people (700 lb maximum), but since most of us are pretty small we were well under that weight limit even as five people, so they allowed it (and I lived to write this review so, all good). After signing my life away and a very quick motor tutorial by a kid who looked like he couldn't be older than middle school, we were on our way. The motor on this boat took a little getting used to, but once I got the hang of it I was a pretty good captain (I'd like to think). We put down the anchor and got out to explore Bird and Gull Islands, then headed over to another beach with a hill to climb up and get a bird's eye view of the area. Before we knew it, it was time to head back to the harbor, but we kept the party going with some drinks and food (will review that separately). Jay (who I think is the owner or manager?) told us we were only allowed to rent a boat if we took a picture and it turns out he was serious (see the photo shoot results in my photos which turned out pretty cute). He took these on his phone so not sure what else he plans to do with them.

We purchased our tickets through the website: https://www.islandprincesscaptree.com. The IP is located inside New York's Captree State Park. We put "Island Princess Captree" into Google Maps and it led us straight there. Parking was $8.00 and the parking lot is a good size. The tickets indicated to please arrive at the dock by 6:00pm the latest for check-in and boarding. It was easy to locate the IP and we checked in with a staff member at the bottom of the stairs. The boat left the dock exactly at 6:30pm. About 8:00pm, we anchored and watched the sunset. Till the Grucci Fireworks Show started about 9:30pm, we were able to see fireworks in the distance in all the different towns. The boat tuned into WALK 97.5 FM which simulcasted music during the fireworks presentation. There were music by BTS, Rosé, Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA," and Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA." The Grucci Fireworks Show lasted till about 10:00pm and then the boat headed back to Captree State Park. So many people fell asleep on the way back. Free coffee and other snacks were available for purchase on the boat. My family and I enjoyed the 4th of July Fireworks Captree Cruise to Jones Beach Fireworks Show on the IP. We felt that the other fireworks shows went longer than the Grucci Fireworks Show, but it was still magnificent. It was an event that I've never participated in for the 4th of July, so it was definitely very nice and weather couldn't have been even more perfect.
