Pan seared snapper? With a mostly uncooked shrimp on top.

First time to eat here, and I think I just caught it on an off night. Was a Friday night, about a 30-40 minute wait. Service was good. I ordered the pan seared snapper, and I just have a hard time I was served snapper. This looked more like tilapia as thin as it was, and didn't taste like any snapper I'd ever ate along the gulf coast. Gator bites and boudin balls were fair, but a bit over fried though. Red beans and rice were delicious though. Wasn't impressed with what I ordered, but I'll probably go back and try something else.

FOOD Bread - the bread is very soft dinner rolls and butter isn't too salted. Cajun Salmon Dip - the dip is good, but it doesn't really taste like Cajun. So really good and fresh. It's a colder dip. The chips are very crunchy. Blackened Salmon - the outside was a little bit salty. The salmon was cooked well. The fries were really crispy and crunchy, which were good. Probably one of the better fries that I've had. The broccoli that I got on the side was pretty mushy, which made it a bit hard to eat. My parents got the crawfish étouffée and they didn't like it that much just because it didn't taste like Cajun flavor. They did give a decent amount of crawfish inside though. VIBES We went around 2 PM and it wasn't that crowded. There's lots of boots seating as well as table seating. The lighting is pretty dim. Gives very like country vibes. Very spacious and it seems like a lot of people are here that are like families or work lunch. SERVICE Service is good. They were fast to get us drinks. The person also serving our table was really nice.

While traveling for work across the country, I always look for great places to eat. On a recent trip from Missouri to Texas, I stumbled upon Captin John's Seafood and Steak in McAlester, Oklahoma. There was a short wait, which seemed like a promising sign of the food's quality. Once seated, the service from the waitstaff was excellent. I ordered the ribeye steak with a baked potato and mushrooms, all made from USDA Certified Angus beef. Despite the restaurant being busy, my meal arrived quick and was very delicious. If you're ever in the area, it's definitely worth a stop. I'll be sure to return if I'm passing through again.

Driving through OK on the 69 and stopped for dinner. Captain John's is our new favorite restaurant along the 69:). Our food was delicious and the food around us looked good too, 80 percent full at 6 pm on a Sunday night, very popular with the local community. Trey, our server, was polite, efficient, and loved where he works. Felt like home:). Strawberry pecan salad was fresh and great flavor combinations. We will be back. read more

As far as seafood places go in southeast Oklahoma, you'll find non better than Capt John's. The crab cakes are a must for me, the red fish is always good, the fried catfish and fried seafood is always a hit and I always get their red beans and rice. The decor and atmosphere are really unique and the bar, while close to the dining area, doesn't interfere with your eating experience. Staff has always been kind, courteous and prompt when we have been in. Oh, and their steaks are most usually spot on! Give Captain John's a try! read more

I've only been there once and the food was fabulous! I got my meal to go so I didn't sit and eat it there. I had ordered the Crawfish bites but they gave me the catfish bites. I've never had either but the catfish bites were so good now I don't know what to order next time I go! Even their mistake was five out of five! read more

What wonderful food! I just got done enjoying the thickest and juiciest pork chop I've ever had! It was seasoned perfectly and served with tasty side orders of gumbo and red beans & rice with blueberry cheesecake for dessert. I highly recommend this place! As a person who seeks out the best fried catfish, I'd say they had excellent fried catfish, shrimp and red beans and rice. Generally a nice, clean place without being overly stuffy or overpriced. Best service I've had in quite awhile--perfect amount of attention, seemed to enjoy her (Haylee?, not sure of spelling) job. Wish I lived closer, but will make an attempt to stop in when passing through. read more

Wow! Amazing! Fun comfortable place to stop. We would make this a place to stop frequently, if we didn't live on the opposite side of the country. When we were seated, she brought out melt in your mouth dinner rolls. Very good, but be sure to save room for dinner as well if you can. I really enjoyed the fresh mandarin spinach salad. The service here is amazing. Kyle was our waiter and was very knowledgeable about the menu and made some very good suggestions. He seemed truly interested in what we thought of their special vegetable of the day (glazed carrots). The food came out hot and appetizing, including the super soft and tasty rolls. I had to stop myself from eating more than two! It was a busy night but the staff handled it all very well. You can tell they are used to big crowds. No water in McAlester. When restaurant opened they were extremely gracious about changing out mussels for shrimp. Service was fantastic. I don't care if I eat on bone China or paper plates. Just grateful for the great food and the awesome service. read more

Food was great. Wait staff was little off that day. I had to ask for refills. Was during church crowd so waiting for a table was about 30 minutes which is understandable at that time of the day: would for sure go back. All our food was super great. I'm highly confused by the reviews. We ordered the Zydeco and cajun jambalaya pasta. The etoufee was really just regular gravy. So it was like eating rice and gravy with catfish on top. If I had ordered that, then fine but I ordered zydeco (etoufee with catfish on top). The cajun jambalaya pasta was ok. Kind of weird that the shrimp only had the flavor of sausage and not shrimp. That's telling on its own. The rolls were hot and delicious. Decent food. Decent price. But cajun, it is not! read more

Our server Sam was amazing! The food was really great, service even better, atmosphere wonderful. I did order the Boudin to go because I liked the Boudin balls. They were homemade with imported boudin... and she even admitted that. I know the brand.. I buy it in Louisiana, but that's OK. Poor honey didn't know the distributor, she's not from Louisiana. History

Established in 2015.

In 2015, the challenge of revamping and renovating a restaurant located at Eufaula Cove Marina began. It was no easy task, but in May of that year we opened our doors to the public... and then closed them! One of the worst floods recorded at Lake Eufaula left Captain John’s and Eufaula devastated by high waters that didn’t recede for months! But nevertheless, we found something within ourselves to continually push forward, to not give up, and to give our customers the best possible guest experience we were capable of providing! Just a few years later, we moved this idea of ours to McAlester to what was previously known as Windmill Cove. If it weren’t for hard work and determination, Captain John’s McAlester wouldn’t be a possibility! It is our duty and privilege to continue her legacy and provide all that pass through her doors with the warmth of hospitality. Captain John’s will always strive to give our guests the highest quality of food and experience possible.
