I have patronized this Captain D's for over 30 years. It has had its moments of good and bad in both food and service. As of late, they have made a great turn around and the food is consistently awesome! The service is professional and they definitely know how to upsell and get me to order something else! lol!! Can't speak to the food because I was YELLED AT IN THE DRIVE-THRU by the female taking orders at around 6pm today. What has happened to "customer service"? I was repeatedly asked what I wanted to order when I tried to make it clear that I simply wanted 'fries and to sub coleslaw for extra fries'. She then proceeded to yell exclaiming "you can have whatever you want!", which, 'duh' it's my order, but maybe a more appropriate response would have been to acknowledge that the fillets are served with two sides and hush puppies ...? The icing on the cake was when she (finally realizing how simple my request was or maybe someone told her that the meal comes with two sides) asked me if I wanted double fries, as if that was her idea and I was being ridiculous. Noted. So. I left. I truly hope she is just burnout because the disrespect is unnecessary. read more

The food is pretty dang good and the prices are reasonable for seafood of this type. In other words if you like "Long John Silver's" you're going to absolutely love Captain D's. In my opinion they have a better variety, the portions are about the same, the flavor is better and the prices are cheaper. The only downside is the location we visited and one I'm writing this review for is a bit run-down, in another word they could use an extreme overhaul of the facility. The Food is great. The fish sandwich is a generous portion and the service is fast and courteous every time.

I'm not gonna lie. I went here with extremely low expectations. I fully expected to be disappointed. As a kid, I was always a Long John Silvers fan. I never thought much of Captain D's. I rarely eat at either nowadays. However, something was telling me to try this place. And I am glad I did. I used the drive-thru and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I received my order and the food was hot and fresh! And I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious it was. Way way way better than Long John Silvers. I'm a fan! I love to see businesses doing things right, and this one definitely gets kudos from me! Highly recommend for a quick meal. read more

I love Captain Ds, especially this location. Every time I've been the staff has been so friendly and accommodating. I'm a picky orderer and tend to have lots of changes or add ons, and they are always to prompt and kind about it, and on top of that the food is usually fresh and warm once I get it. My favorite is the 3 piece fish with hush puppies Mac and cheese and extra crunchies. Next time our your crunchies in your Mac and cheese. It's so good! read more

Got horrible service from this location. Was trying to pick up an order from DoorDash and kept being told that I would need to verify the order number, of which there was none. I would assume the procedure for a delivery driver versus a personal pick up would be different, but the associate kept insisting there should be an order number of which there was none. There is also nothing on the site, requiring an ID be shown, or that only the orderer can pick up. After arguing this point for over 30 minutes, I was then told that the order wasn't even ready and I would have to continue to wait. The service here is ridiculous, I won't be back. read more

The line was growing inside and the cars at the drive thru were going around the building. April was working the indoor cash register and had excellent skills in customer service. She seemed genuinely happy to be working there as she was great help with taking orders, finalising to-go orders for the customers inside, and taking orders to the customers dining in. She was quick, articulate, asked if I wanted to add their special to my order, and asked if I'd like sauce--all things to be expected that a lot of younger workers seem to miss these days. Despite the lines, the wait was minimal -maybe 5 minutes. The taste of the food was great for the price. I am only giving 4 stars because the phone line was busy or disconnected and their website doesn't explain what "regular" sides are and what "add-on" sides were. There aren't that many of these left and luckily this location has been here since before Duncanville was founded. (it seems like) They have been putting out descent food for a long time now. I like them alot better then Long Johns that's for sure. The outside could use a tune up, but don't let it fool you. Inside has always been kept up with the times. The food is usually hot and fresh to order. Well the main parts. Sides probably not so much. But they do have a good selection of sides. Corn, mac n cheese, broccoli, coleslaw, etc etc. Price wise they can be a little proud but there are usually coupons in the mail for the area that you can use. And if you join there Captain D's email you get a free meal for your birthday. So if your in the area and are craving some fish (fried or grilled) stop on by and enjoy yourself. read more

For the last 5 weeks I have made a weekly drive-by survey of the Duncanville location and NOT once have I seen the chef/cook and other employees masked up. Just off the highway. I was seeking some great fried hushpuppies and fish? Stopped here, went inside. Clean restaurant. Customer service not great. Food fantastic. Hushpuppies crunchy outside, creamy lightly seasoned inside. You can tell they use clean grease. Fries were nice and crisp as if they fried them twice like high dollar restaurants. Fish was hot and fresh. Still steaming which I appreciated because I know it was not sitting there all day. This is the third time over the course of a year that I have visited and they nail it each time. Oh and the price is more than reasonable for all the products they offer. The salmon and rice-great; fried green tomatoes-great; vegetables-subpar. Please visit for some well cooked better than Long John Silver's fixings! read more

Ah! The taste of my childhood! I love this place! Always tasty fish and their prices are decent for fish, sometimes a little pricey for "fast food" fish. But that is the only real "complaint." The gems of this place are the employees. They are always super nice when we come in for dinner. I'm absolutely delighted that with the egress of business from this town, they still are here. Had I known they had grilled items and I'd actually tried one of them they might have ranked an extra star. But alas my parents (who aren't really into grilled food items) picked up the dinner without any input from me. The country style fish is good (stay AWAY from the battered fish--I used to love it as a kid but I got some about 4 1/2 years ago and it was so gross and greasy and heavy that I was hideously sick the next morning after eating it and I haven't touched that style of Captain D's fish since). The hushpuppies are nice and the seafood stuffed crab shells are a great compliment to the fish. read more
