I went with friends yesterday to Hillside social for a birthday monthly celebration. I was impressed as soon as I pulled up the outside looks very regal and statuesque and then the ambience inside is beautiful. It has a tropical southern classic feel. I I decided to get the butterfly cocktail. Really I wasn't impressed with it. It was not strong, came in a plastic cup and was underwhelming. I shared food with friends. We got the fried catfish and shrimp combo with mashed potatoes. We also got the suya beef skewers with sautéed vegetables and macaroni and cheese and greens. I was most impressed with the fried catfish. It was delicious and I'd recommend it. You won't be disappointed. The mashed potato were ok. The greens and macaroni and cheese were tasty. The service was good. Our server did a good job with our large group. Be aware if you have a large group gratuity will be included. On Sunday the entertainment is Don Diego jazz band. Came for a last minute date night on a Thursday. Loved the decor and the staff was uber attentive. On Thursdays they have r&b bingo and regular bingo. It was fun and the music vibe was great. My only dislike on bingo was that they gave away the answers (but I can be a little competitive so most people probably like that). As for the food, they have decent happy hour selections and happy hour lasts all night on Thursdays. We ordered the catfish nuggets, suya, and deviled eggs. The last two were not on HH but were well priced. I enjoyed each dish but thought the suya steak could be slightly more tender. I definitely plan to return and to bring others as it seems like a fun spot. read more

Loved the ambiance here! Walked in and loved that they had a live Dj he had me singing from the time I walked in! Service was top tier!! Tony was amazing! He made great recommendations, checked on us just enough and just made sure we had a great time. Great photo opportunities if that's your thing. Now here's why you came....the FOOD!!! Heatwave harvest (drink): 8/10 loved the presentation of this drink. The flavors were on point! It wasn't too sweet and was refreshing. I ended up having two but the only thing I'd change is adding more rum and less ice. Bourbon bbq shrimp: 8.5/10 alright presentation, but great flavor in the shrimp. The black eyed pea "relish" was good and wish there was a little more of it. The flavors went together nicely. Chicken wings (buffalo): 7.5/10 nothing special about the wings. They were a nice size and weren't overly saucy. Seafood artichoke dip: 7.5/10 really enjoyed the flavors in this dip! Wish it came out hotter and the cheese was melted. I also would recommend they serve this dip worth some type of pita bread or pita chip. The potato chips that come with the dip aren't the best combo. Shrimp and grits: 8/10 flavor wise this was pretty good. They aren't stingy with the shrimp and they were a nice size. I was missing the Gouda in the grits and could've used another scoop in the bowl. Eggs: 6/10 they weren't cooked as requested - soft, and were too stiff for my liking. The eggs looked seasoned with maybe pepper flakes. I did have to add salt and pepper. Catfish and grilled shrimp: 7.5/10 the shrimp and French fries were delicious. While the catfish was seasoned nicely, and had a nice crispy outer. it was slightly overcooked. Overall we enjoyed the food and looking forward to coming back for dinner service. read more

I have high hopes for this place in the future. First off OUTSIDE of glasses were dirty. We got appetizer red velvet waffles that were cold with cold syrup . Our food was not what we expected.. all of it was overly salted and the grits had more Gouda cheese sauce than grits , the same for the Mac. We just could not bare to deal with it. (Same problems for 2 tables next to us) Frittatas do not have nearly as much protein as they should for either the oxtail or salmon. Crab fried rice was dry and flavorless . We also were the second table to arrive and got our food almost an hour after being here. Our server was not very attentive . We did like atmosphere and dj vibes . The drinks were refreshing EXCEPT for Bloody Mary which was made with a can of crushed tomatoes we saw being walked to the bar . It was not seasoned or dressed how one usually is . Upon arriving there is plenty of parking spaces available. The building outside looks to one of a venue hall compared to the open ambiance if the other restaurants near by. I did make reservations for Sundays brunch, again it was just opening and with the windows super tinted we weren't even sure they were open. Upon arrive we were greeted at the front door, and seated in a great booth. Our waiter was Tony and he was amazing giving recommendations. Now I will say this I wish the brunch menu was a little more on the breakfast side. Pancakes, waffles ,English muffins, homemade biscuits .. hell fruit I think this place has so much potential but breakfast could def be more than meat.Breakfast looks like a lhesby lunch /dinner menu. So my catfish was amazing no complaints seasoned very well. However my friend had oxtails they were really tender but the meat overall was lacking seasoning. Same with her Mac n cheese. All and all we will eventually give the dinner menu a try but hopefully the breakfast options will be reviewed. Other than that ... I love supporting black owned business , the hospitality is there, the drinks are there just need to add some simple additions to the breakt menu. First of all I was told that it's BLACK OWNED!! So let's first acknowledge that !!! Came with a friend for dinner and the entire experience was a huge letdown. Upon entering, we were not greeted by anyone and stood waiting for approximately 10 minutes until we decided to sit in the bar area. The restaurant did have a Bridgerton theme private party going on so maybe that caused the confusion we experienced - but we aren't too sure. Our waitress was kind, but new, and didn't really know the menu. We ultimately settled on a cup of seafood gumbo and calamari to start as well as drinks. The calamari was typical but the gumbo was extremely disappointing and sent back to the kitchen. We ordered our dinner - salmon with 2 sides and redfish with 2 sides. My redfish was brought out along with 1 of the wrong sides and my friend NEVER received her food. We waited for it to come (over 30 mins) but nothing. My food ended up going cold waiting to get hers (manners - didn't want to eat in front or without her). We had to speak with the manager who advised it was a front and back of the house mixup and took care of things for us but our night was spoiled by then and we left the establishment HUNGRY. I'll preface by saying this review is regarding the event room located immediately to the left as you walk in. This review benefits those looking to rent it out for their event. Sunday March 2025 1:30-4ish Pros of Hillside, based on my experience: parking is easy - spacious lot. Bar is a decent size. If I return, I'll sit there. Location is conveniently near a shopping center (over there by H&M). Drink prices aren't over the top. A margarita and mimosa = $22. Aesthetically pleasing. Now- for those looking to reserve the event room. It's a miss. The AC must've been broken. It was hot. We felt relief when they opened the doors to the room- because right outside (which was still inside of the restaurant) it was cool. You can also hear the live music from the restaurant while inside of the room. We were playing music, too, but the other music was louder. There was a server who came in to assist at times, but a guest of ours did note that they hadn't come to clear the plates from our table in a timely fashion. Either way- I would come back one day to sit at the bar and try the food and get an experience directly from the establishment. But sadly, based on reviews here, and word of mouth, I don't see Hillside being here 5 years from now. read more

Dropped by for happy hour recently and had a great time catching up with friends and listening to the fantabulous DJ Fraces J! Unfortunately, this place still has a few kinks to work out, namely with their service. Our server was so out of it and ended up charging me for another table's food. Then had an attitude about it when I requested a correction smh! Luckily, the bar manager fixed it but that was after waiting for an exceptionally long time. Oh, and forgot to mention that they messed up our order, but I didn't want to make a fuss (and I was really hungry) so I just ate it. I was at the location for a birthday party. Upon entering I was very pleased with the picturesque environment. It was beautiful florals all over the place on the walls. Each section of the location had different types of floral backgrounds. The restaurant was a very nice size and welcoming. There was a good amount of people there. It didn't take long for our orders to be placed but a little bit of a wait for our food to be served. I ordered the lamb chops with mac and cheese and asparagus spears. All of the food was good but the lamb chops were outstanding. The meat was tender and had a nice taste to it. The customer service was also friendly and helpful. Mixed Feelings About Hillside Social -- Beautiful Vibes, But the Execution Missed the Mark I really wanted to love Hillside Social. The decor is stunning and the ambiance at first glance was exactly what I was hoping for. But unfortunately, my experience didn't quite match the aesthetics. While waiting for our table, I noticed the floor was sticky--something I mentioned to the manager who brushed it off with little concern. That should have been my first red flag. Once seated, the service was... rocky. My drink took an unusually long time to arrive, even though the restaurant wasn't crowded. Then the waitress informed me the potatoes I ordered were unavailable--only to realize she had given me the wrong menu altogether. That level of oversight is frustrating. We also had to battle a persistent fly and even a surprise gnat while trying to enjoy our food. Not what you expect when dining indoors. And while the food itself was delicious (credit where it's due!), the silverware situation was just bizarre. We had mismatched utensils not once, but twice. For an establishment like this, consistency should be standard, not optional. To top it all off, the AC seemed to be struggling, and it became noticeably warm during our meal. For two perimenopausal women, that was not ideal. When it was time to pay, the waitress explained they were having a system glitch and couldn't process a charge over $75--so they had to split it into two separate payments. I've dined in a lot of places and never encountered that before. What really disappointed me was the absence of the manager. Not once did she check on our table after I raised the initial concern. This was my cousin's second time here and she had been raving about it. Sadly, this was my first--and probably last--visit. I had high hopes, but service, attention to detail, and guest experience matter just as much as good food and pretty décor. Hillside Social, I hope you take this as a call to tighten up. We had Tony as a server and his service!....he made us feel like we were so important. It couldn't have been a better place to take my friend for her birthday. He made the experience THE EXPERIENCE! I wasn't able to give zero starts or else I would have because my experience was horrible! I have a lot to say about Hillside Social, but unfortunately none of it is good. I booked a reservation for brunch and it was our first time trying out the restaurant so we were looking forward to it. My reservation was at 130p and we got seated about 140-145p which was fine. Our server came to take our drink order, to which I had questions about the drinks and she had no idea of the answer and had to ask. She finally came back about 10 minutes later and we ordered 3 mimosas crafts which each come with 2 juices. When we received our drinks only 3 juices came and I asked where the others were to which the serve replied with "well typically people don't use a lot of juice so I didn't bring them all" I advised her that we wanted all our juices. She came back about 10-15 min later and from there we ordered our food at about 2-215. Come 3p I asked our server how much longer for our food and she advised she just told them to put it in and it would be a few minutes. Well a few minutes turned to 330p with no food and we asked for a manager and told them to cancel the order. A group of ladies next to us expressed issues as well and as we were leaving they received their food but said they sent it back due to it not meeting their standard, to which I can agree with because one of the ladies showed me what was supposed to be cabbage and it was brown. The service was horrible, from the server to the manager being that when we called the manager over he claimed he was going to come to our table, yet he walked by our table numerous times. We also had someone in our party that needed to have medicine with food and as I stated our food never came. All in all we were there from 145p-430p with no food. The only good thing about the establishment was the band. I would NEVER recommend anyone here nor will I even dare to try to go back. Worst experience I've ever had. read more

Overall: Unfortunately, Hillside is a huge miss. The restaurant itself is decorated nicely, however, that's about the only good thing I can say besides the servers being decent. Also, they have a cigar area that you can't smoke in because there is no ventilation, which was disappointing. To start off, the music is nice feature except the DJ isn't actually mixing the music, he cuts off the song abruptly and plays the next one. You definitely need to order an appetizer because it takes at least 45 minutes to receive your meal. I got one of their lemon-tinis which was good except my glass came out with a long (longer than my pointer finger) hair wrapped around the base. What I Got: - Seafood artichoke dip: Skip this. I was expecting to get chunks of seafood but it only tasted like I was dipping into cream cheese. Also, this comes with kettle chips. The only time I actually enjoyed this appetizer was when I got a chip that had a lot of seasoning. - Fried oyster deviled eggs: Skip this. The egg is overpowered by the sweetness of the bacon jam. It's missing the mustard and relish taste that you would get in a traditional deviled egg. - Red Fish with red beans and rice and greens: For there to be a creamy cajun sauce on the fish, this dish lacked flavor. I sent the red beans and rice back because it also lacked flavor (I didn't taste broth or anything, the beans could've cooked longer, and it tasted like everything might've just been made in the bean juice.) - Oxtails with greens and sweet potatoes: The oxtails were the only thing I actually enjoyed. They were seasoned generously and were meaty. The greens fell flat and the sweet potatoes were just barely sweet. read more

That is a ridiculous price for 2 drinks. Bottle are cheap at the liquor store. Never got to taste or look at the food. We were so hungry we're we had to leave. They had flavor & were cooked well. The peri peri wings had a good flavor & were a good appetizer to start with. The other items that were ordered lacked sufficient seasoning and flavor.
