Embarking on eating more healthy, I went in search of a vegetable plate. I decided on CP at the advice of my best friend. It was a great choice! I had the garlic mashed potatoes with gravy, fried okra, broccoli rice casserole, cornbread dressing and cinnamon apples. I also had the cornbread and some fried mushrooms that I shared. Second time trying this location and I love it! After the kiddos enjoyed a session at Altitude Trampoline Park we decided to do Cotton Patch for lunch :) There was no wait and the service was superb. Thankfully we enjoyed an order of Fried Mushrooms which I had been craving and was so happy they arrived HOT and fast, a house salad, Catfish with Shrimp platter served with fries and two hush puppies while the kiddos enjoyed their meal. I would add that this location does not have an open bar which doesn't kill my vibe just great to know if you're wanting a margarita to pair with lunch but they do offer basic beer and wines so there's that. Me and my granddaughter went here for dinner. She ordered the cheeseburger from the menu which comes with 2 sides and no drink. There are plenty of options besides French fries on the kids menu so she had the fruit cup and broccoli cheese rice. Her fruit cup was 100% strawberries which she was totally fine with. She ate every single one. I'm not sure if that's typical for Cotton Patch but no complaints. I was charged 99cents for adding an apple juice box to her meal. I had the small fish basket and subbed the French fries for dressing and it was all pretty good. The turkey even comes with a tiny scoop of cranberry sauce in a condiment cup. This is my first time at Cotton patch. I was on my way to the airport in Dallas just and I wanted something that wasn't barbecue and this actually hit the spot. When you walk in the ambiance is real cool. They had TVs at the bar. You can watch the game which was a full service bar by the way and then had plenty of seating. The staff was nice in the greeted me when I walked in and immediately took my order. I ordered the chicken fried steak with a side of green beans and smothered potatoes before my meal came and brought me some fresh bread and butter which was delicious. The chicken fried steak was perfect. It was fried hard like I like and flavorful and the potatoes were delicious. Also the green beans we're actually good because they had pieces of bacon in them which is always a win. I definitely with tried them again because they hit the spot for me when I needed it. We arrived on a rainy evening and the place wasn't that busy (note that they have daily specials and it was steak night) so I was hopeful for a casual dinner. We were seated and the beginning of our experience was frustrating to say the least. However I will say that Kayla and Caleb came through and made this a pleasurable experience. If you are diabetic, as I am, note that you might want to ask for a glass of water for the strawberry lemonade. Although it was good, it was super sweet. So note that their side salad isn't your usual salad, it comes with onions and bell peppers. For a side salad it's a good portion. I also ordered the grilled pork chops (which are always good) with green beans that came with apples. The country friend steak wasn't a favorite as just was just meh. The shrimp seem like they get them pre breaded and frozen and then deep fry them. As much as I love fried green tomatoes, these needed to be seasoned and I'm use to it having a remoulade however here you get ranch dressing. The Texas fries were okay, I felt like the fries needed to be cooked a little harder to stand up to the items being put on them so they don't become soggy. The savior is the gooey cheesecake - it wasn't overly sweet and I would get this again to go. So if you make a trip, I encourage you to ask to sit in Kayla's section. My first issue is that when you order online they don't give you the option to tip they automatically take a tip so unless you're aware of that when you get ready to check out you don't realize it till it's too late I don't tip hourly employees. Second of all not only did they get a tip but I had to ask for plasticware I had to ask for rolls which automatically comes with your meal. So now I've tipped for what bad servicing again. I place a pickup order at 8:15 pm that said it would be ready at 8:35 pm. I arrived at 8:35 pm but it was not ready. I sat down and finally got my order at 9:10 pm after watching my order hanging up there and be skipped. The staff was not friendly and then gave me 2 rolls for 3 entrees. I even tipped them 18% on the app when I placed the order. After looking at the receipt they provided with the bag of food that does not show my tip and the receipt from my app that does show my tip, I am wondering if the staff thought I did not tip. I witnessed one of the employee's asking a delivery driver if someone else tipped. He showed the black lady employee his phone and I heard her say "Oh that person orders all the time but we never see if they tip" which seems like she wanted to know if the orders had tipped. She never helped me but said something to the younger girl that was putting out most to go orders. There were a lot of employees in the store with only one table of people actually eating inside. All the other orders were to go and only the one girl was putting out to go orders. All other employees were mainly standing around and not helping with the orders. If a manager see this review and you have cameras, please take a look at what your employees are doing. We come here usually at least once a month and while the staff is never really friendly at this location this is the first time it's been this bad. Family friendly restaurant located in a strip mall. We were a large group of 7 1/2. The great friendly staff made it look easy taking care of us. Isaiah mainly took care of us. He was patient taking our orders and checked on drinks as he walked by to/from other tables. Our food came out in a timely manner by a lady server who started passing out the hot plates. Isaiah came by to help her and made sure we had everything we needed. We ordered seafood combo, chicken alfredo, chicken fried chicken, fried shrimp and fried fish. My sister Juanita was celebrating her birthday at this restaurant. This was my first time here, and everyone was very cordial and professional. The food was delicious, and the restaurant was clean and tidy. I really enjoyed the comfort food, especially the fried okra, and baked squash with salmon. It was cooked to perfection. Monty was cordial in coming to check at each table to see if we had any needs. We mentioned that it was Juanita's birthday, and he started singing. Several people at the restaurant including us joined in the singing. This is a family friendly restaurant that is committed to providing the best service, and it did not disappoint for my first visit. I used to go the Black Eye Pea restaurant, and it is no longer in business. This is the place to go, if you want a family friendly restaurant with great comfort food. Wanted to get that last meal before leaving town and decide on cotton patch with my mom. She's a big fan but I've only been once in the past, but based off the meal I had, I would definitely return. We both ordered the same thing getting the fried catfish and shrimp combo. This came with two sides and roll or cornbread. We both opted for the rolls. besides I chose green beans and corn. The fish was perfectly cooked and I only got one small piece of bone across all the fillets. The shrimp were also delicious and I got those with cocktail sauce. The food we have had from here was very good. Both take out and dine in. Service was ok, they are trying hard, and I'm sure like everyone they are short staffed and have to fight for the best people. Disregard the ads online about free entrees- it will take days before they respond with the offer, they want a lot of your personal info to get it, and it turns out to be only be good for an online to-go order placed on their app. That's a lot of hoops to jump through IMO. read more

Last night (2/10/24) we decided to stop at the Cotton Patch in Cedar Hill, Texas. I got the chicken and dumplings and my husband got fried green tomatoes . My husband loved the fried green tomatoes too! When I tell you the chicken and dumplings were delicious with chunks of chicken with the dumplings just like I absolutely love !! We got the food to-go because we had to get back home. I/we were not disappointed. Most restaurants short-change us when we get carry out. We pay the same price but it never makes any difference. We always have to call the restaurant back to explain what we were missing in the order or it is something else. Total inconvenience. I would only come here for the sides. For some reason the meats are never good. I'm not a fan of the bread and butter. The bread is tasteless and the butter does nothing to help it. The fried catfish is so rubbery. Thank God I was lucky and happened to come on the kids eat free night which is on Wednesday. Be prepared for lots of salt if you come.
