A neighborhood gem! We tried Lela's for the first time for lunch after my hubby found it on Yelp. So glad we came! Comfy atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious food! Hubby got the shrimp cocktail which was amazing. Full of shrimp and fresh chopped veggies in a tangy sauce. I got the shrimp flautas. Two crispy tortillas with shrimp served with guacamole, rice, lettuce and tomatoes. So yummy!! Lela's is an excellent place to go if you want good service and good food. Lela's Seafood is a lovely place that draws your eyes right in from Beltline Road. An adorable setting with shaded picnic tables and a deck. It's a sweet converted house with three dining areas and a small bar where we were greeted right away. Our waiter brought us a big smile, menus, chips and delicious thin queso and a warm spicy salsa. Lela's menu is terrific. But even though I recognized much, I still had questions. My husband took the easy route and went taco. He chose the Baja Fish - crispy battered pacific cod fish, sour cream, mayo, salsa roja, cabbage and pico for $5, the Pescado al Carbon - Mesquite grilled alaskan salmon, coleslaw, fried onions, and a mango habanero salsa for $6 and a third taco, also $6. So the story is this. He swears he didn't order octopus, but he didn't realize he had eaten octopus until we got the check. Apparently he pointed at Pulpo En Su Tinta - a Braised and fried pacific octopus with a calamari ink sofrito in a blue corn tortilla. My husband doesn't understand or read Spanish. I thought he told me he was ordering something else. My husband also ordered a Caesar salad for $7. Our waiter helped me decide between Aguachile and one of the Ceviches that range between $19 and $26. In the end I chose what he recommended, his favorite and he said if I didn't like it, he would comp it! You can't beat that. This was the Tuna Ceviche with Mango and a tiny dice of cucumber, Pico, and avocado pearls/dots with jalapeño slices. So we noshed on wonderful queso and salsa and then they brought his tacos. Not his salad, but his 3 tacos all squeezed together on one small plate. My husband didn't tell me that as he was trying to eat his first taco, it was soggy underneath. I wish he had. By the time they brought me my ceviche, he still hadn't said anything and he also still didn't have his salad. Then I realized he was eating part of his big piece of cod with his fingers. Simultaneously our waiter came over. The salad also came. My husband says his tacos are all messy and I tell the waiter it's actually soggy and he says "is there anything I can do?" My husband looks uncomfortable and just sits there holding the pieces of his taco and mumbles. The waiter says something about how it's a quick eat kind of thing. Okay. If that's the case, bring them one at a time then. But what happened, I imagine is that my husband's tacos sat and steamed and oozed together while they worked on my made fresh to order ceviche. When they realized his tacos were sitting, they brought them out, but it was too late. I have worked both out front and in back and I know what happens. But my husband doesn't want me to make waves, so I don't when it's HIS food. He said the contents of his tacos were delicious. My Ceviche was perfect. I didn't really care for the tostada shells they serve with it, but there were plenty of terrific chips left. The Caesar salad was very good and enough for two. Based only on today's experience, I am afraid I will have to leave it up to the individual how or if they order the tacos. But the way in which they prepare the actual seafood was enjoyable for us both. There's a 3% surcharge if you use a credit card. read more

Solid 4 stars for Lela's! The service was very attentive, and the decor is cute, with decorative fish on the walls that fit the seafood theme. They also bring out complimentary chips, salsa, and queso. We started with the Rockefeller oysters, which were pretty good. Their version is chargrilled with parmesan and Cajun butter, so it's a fun twist on the classic, with decent flavor. My husband ordered the zarandeado, and it was the star of the night: really good, and the sauce on the fish had a ton of flavor. Unfortunately, my dish, Lela's Cajun, was not great. It was very bland with no spice at all, and the shrimp was overcooked. It also came covered in cilantro even though the menu didn't list it as an ingredient. I should have asked, but if you're sensitive to cilantro, it's worth checking before you order. Even if you like cilantro, I definitely wouldn't recommend this one. Still, between the friendly service and my husband's great entrée, we'd come back and try something different. read more

This is a late review but I've gotten busy but wanted to circle back to it. We went about 3 weeks ago. It's new to the area I believe and it's a great addition. We hope this one will last. Now since they are new I'll give them grace. The first waitress either forgot about us or didn't want to wait on us because it was almost closing time. Maybe about 40 min before. Which we didn't know and when we asked they said they were still open. So we stayed. After a while of no response from the first girl we flagged down another waitress and she was amazing. Made up for it all. She made sure we were set up with a couple of drinks and it was great. The atmosphere is very "Trópical", which I liked. Good music, cute dining area. The food?? Chefs kiss!! We started with fried pickles and chicharrón shrimp. Those chicharrón shrimp are DELICIOUS!! The guac they serve it with is also delicious! I almost wished we just ordered two plates! Not that the pickles weren't good because they were. Those shrimp are just that good. Each of us ordered different plates and we each tried them all. That's what we usually do so we can get a good judgment. The fish tasted fresh and seasoned well. My favorite was the salmon which ordered. They didn't tell me but apparently they ran out of the cilantro rice that came with it so I didn't get to try it, but the black beans were tasty. Great ceviche!! read more

I really wanted to love Lela's Seafood, but it ended up being a bit of a mixed bag. Starting with the positives: the ambiance is great, and the service we received was excellent. They started us out with chips, salsa, and cheese dip, which was pretty tasty. Unfortunately, where the restaurant falls short is the actual food. While they market themselves heavily as a seafood spot, the quality simply wasn't there. For appetizers, the fried calamari wasn't fresh and turned out very chewy. The disappointment continued with the mains--my husband and I ordered the Rockefeller oysters, and they didn't taste fresh at all either. My daughter had the Baja fish taco (ordered with no sauce); she didn't care for the taco itself, though she did enjoy the fries that came with it. Overall, we were just not impressed by the meal. It's a beautiful space with a wonderful team, but for a seafood restaurant, the freshness of the seafood needs a major upgrade read more

Places like this are why I roll my eyes when people say DFW doesn't have great food. The building is so cool and you can sit on the inside or on a porch. They gave us a complimentary margarita and free chips and queso. Both were very good, we ordered fried pickles, which I loved. We got fish tacos and a shrimp taco both Baja, the shrimp was good but the fish was out of this world. We had a side of rice, which I also liked. We also got tuna on rocks they set on fire, it looked so fancy and was interesting. I love this place and truly hope they're open for a long time. read more

Visited on April 29, 2026...around 2pm. To-go order. One (1) star for the customer service. Two workers were in the lobby area. The lady was pleasant and took my order. The other worker (a large/tall man)...NEVER spoke, never said hello...even when I was the ONLY customer in the restaurant. Suggestion: Acknowledge, speak to ALL of your customers...all of them...even if you're not the one taking their order. Two (2) stars for the food. The flan was "cake-like"...it was not silky, creamy or custard like (see the pic). On the inside, the flan was sponge like...it looked more like risotto. I ordered the Combo: Fish and Shrimp, with hush puppies and fries. The fries were good. The fish was not seasoned at all..:and wasn't fried/cooked well...more like medium well. The shrimp was bland...no seasoning. The hush puppies were a bit doughy...so I will need to cook the shrimp and hush puppies a bit more. read more

The only thing missing...is the sand & sea! This restaurant has a great feel, seating inside and out with a comfortable near the ocean atmosphere. Lots of great choices on the menu (we had a difficult time deciding). I decided on the Lela's Cajun seafood plate. The dish was enjoyable, a creamy Cajun sauce with a nice melody of seafood and rice. My wife enjoy the Langosta al carbona. The tails & prawns were grilled nicely with a flavorful sauce. The cilantro rice over black beans was a nice complement to the dish & the tomato, red onion salad a refreshing addition. We asked our server for a dessert recommendation & my wife said she didn't disappoint! Neither of us can remember the name (see picture). Everyone was great! My mom and aunt insisted this be our first stop because this was their second visit, and now I completely understand why. I'm visiting from Ohio, and they wanted to make sure I experienced this hidden gem. From the outside, it's a quaint little house tucked along Belt Line Road, but the moment you walk through the doors, you're transported to what feels like a beautiful beach hut on a tropical island. The atmosphere is warm, inviting, and unlike anything you'd expect. The food was absolutely phenomenal! We started with the Rockefeller Oysters and the Supreme Shrimp Nachos, and both were incredible. For my entrée, I had the blackened red snapper, and it was one of the freshest pieces of fish I've ever had--it honestly tasted like it had just been caught that morning. The service was just as impressive as the food. Every member of the staff was welcoming, attentive, and genuinely made us feel like family. Five-star service from beginning to end. Glad we found this place before word spreads and they have an hour+ wait to get in! Lela's has a great cozy hole in the wall vibe, and the staff were all super friendly and great hosts. We were in town for our daughter's basketball tournament and loved Lela's so much we went two days in a row! I love octopus and decided to give it a try. They do an amazing job poaching theirs so it is super tender and then finished on the grill. Embarrassed to say I ordered this twice in a row so now I can't wait to go back and try other things. The atmosphere was nice and portions of food was plenty, but the food could stand a little more seasoning. I had fried fish, that was hot and the batter was crisp, but I had to add salt. A friend of mine had 2 tacos, (can't remember what kind), but he complained about the seasoning as well and said one of the tacos should have had a little more spice to it. I've been to this restaurant 5 times and the food has been amazing but I went 2 weeks ago and I was very disappointed. I ordered the grilled octopus and fried calamari both were a complete disaster. The calamari was so tuff it was like trying to chew rubber bands but it was the grilled octopus that was totally disgusting. Even after I asked them to put it back on the grill it tasted horrible. We've passed by Lela's many times and I've always said we need to try it. Today we wanted to support a small business due to loss revenue during the ice storm and Lela's was the perfect place. We were greeted warmly by the staff and fresh,warm chips and salsa were brought to the table. We decided on the calamari for an appetizer, it was crispy and well seasoned. For my entree I ordered the combinations fajitas, because they had just delivered some to another table and they smelled so good. They did not disappoint and the portion was huge; I have enough leftover for my husband and I to have at least 2 each. The black beans and rice reminded me of when I had them in Miami. My husband had Lela's Cajun entree and he cleaned his plate! We shared a crème brûlée which was light and delicious. Our waiter Billy was outstanding and very personable. I really did not want to give this place such a low rating but I had to because the food was not good at all . I had the broiled oysters and they were horrible and the red snapper which was over cooked . I will say the ENTIRE staff was soooooo nice and kind they did everything they could to make it right including taking it off my bill . I am rooting for them hoping they get better!!also they make the food to order so we waited about 40 minutes for our main course .
