    Pulpo a las brasas

Lela's Seafood has become our favorite seafood restaurant in Cedar Hill! From the moment you walk in, they make you feel like family. The restaurant is cozy, beautifully decorated, and has such a welcoming atmosphere. The food is always incredibly fresh and absolutely delicious. Our favorite dish is the Octopus a las Brasas--it's perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and a must-try! Even the iced tea is top-notch, which says a lot about the care they put into every detail. What truly makes Lela's special is the wonderful staff. Their warm hospitality, combined with the amazing food, keeps us coming back again and again. We highly recommend Lela's Seafood to anyone looking for an outstanding dining experience. Five stars!

Pulpo En Su Tinta Taco - Octopus $6, Pescado al Carbon Taco - Salmon $6, Baja Fish - Cod $5 L to R

Lela's Seafood is a lovely place that draws your eyes right in from Beltline Road. An adorable setting with shaded picnic tables and a deck. It's a sweet converted house with three dining areas and a small bar where we were greeted right away. Our waiter brought us a big smile, menus, chips and delicious thin queso and a warm spicy salsa. Lela's menu is terrific. But even though I recognized much, I still had questions. My husband took the easy route and went taco. He chose the Baja Fish - crispy battered pacific cod fish, sour cream, mayo, salsa roja, cabbage and pico for $5, the Pescado al Carbon - Mesquite grilled alaskan salmon, coleslaw, fried onions, and a mango habanero salsa for $6 and a third taco, also $6. So the story is this. He swears he didn't order octopus, but he didn't realize he had eaten octopus until we got the check. Apparently he pointed at Pulpo En Su Tinta - a Braised and fried pacific octopus with a calamari ink sofrito in a blue corn tortilla. My husband doesn't understand or read Spanish. I thought he told me he was ordering something else. My husband also ordered a Caesar salad for $7. Our waiter helped me decide between Aguachile and one of the Ceviches that range between $19 and $26. In the end I chose what he recommended, his favorite and he said if I didn't like it, he would comp it! You can't beat that. This was the Tuna Ceviche with Mango and a tiny dice of cucumber, Pico, and avocado pearls/dots with jalapeño slices. So we noshed on wonderful queso and salsa and then they brought his tacos. Not his salad, but his 3 tacos all squeezed together on one small plate. My husband didn't tell me that as he was trying to eat his first taco, it was soggy underneath. I wish he had. By the time they brought me my ceviche, he still hadn't said anything and he also still didn't have his salad. Then I realized he was eating part of his big piece of cod with his fingers. Simultaneously our waiter came over. The salad also came. My husband says his tacos are all messy and I tell the waiter it's actually soggy and he says "is there anything I can do?" My husband looks uncomfortable and just sits there holding the pieces of his taco and mumbles. The waiter says something about how it's a quick eat kind of thing. Okay. If that's the case, bring them one at a time then. But what happened, I imagine is that my husband's tacos sat and steamed and oozed together while they worked on my made fresh to order ceviche. When they realized his tacos were sitting, they brought them out, but it was too late. I have worked both out front and in back and I know what happens. But my husband doesn't want me to make waves, so I don't when it's HIS food. He said the contents of his tacos were delicious. My Ceviche was perfect. I didn't really care for the tostada shells they serve with it, but there were plenty of terrific chips left. The Caesar salad was very good and enough for two. Based only on today's experience, I am afraid I will have to leave it up to the individual how or if they order the tacos. But the way in which they prepare the actual seafood was enjoyable for us both. There's a 3% surcharge if you use a credit card.

My wife and I had an absolutely wonderful evening at Lela's Seafood, and we couldn't leave without sharing our experience! From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel so welcomed and taken care of -- their warmth and attentiveness truly made the night special. We started with the calamari, which was a perfect way to kick off the meal. For our mains, my wife had the grilled snapper and absolutely loved it, and I went with the grilled chicken and shrimp fajitas -- honestly one of the most delicious dishes I've had in a long time. The food was fresh. Every bite was packed with flavor! Ambiance and music was perfect. Indoor and outdoor seating available for the perfect evening dinner. If you're looking for a fantastic dining experience with incredible food and exceptional service, look no further than Lela's Seafood in Cedar Hill. We'll absolutely be back if we're in the area! Highly recommend!

I really wanted to love Lela's Seafood, but it ended up being a bit of a mixed bag. Starting with the positives: the ambiance is great, and the service we received was excellent. They started us out with chips, salsa, and cheese dip, which was pretty tasty. Unfortunately, where the restaurant falls short is the actual food. While they market themselves heavily as a seafood spot, the quality simply wasn't there. For appetizers, the fried calamari wasn't fresh and turned out very chewy. The disappointment continued with the mains--my husband and I ordered the Rockefeller oysters, and they didn't taste fresh at all either. My daughter had the Baja fish taco (ordered with no sauce); she didn't care for the taco itself, though she did enjoy the fries that came with it. Overall, we were just not impressed by the meal. It's a beautiful space with a wonderful team, but for a seafood restaurant, the freshness of the seafood needs a major upgrade

Very good food and intimate service. The octopus is good in any way you choice to eat it, but I recommend the taco. It is a very causal vibe for any time of the day with any size group of people.

This is a late review but I've gotten busy but wanted to circle back to it. We went about 3 weeks ago. It's new to the area I believe and it's a great addition. We hope this one will last. Now since they are new I'll give them grace. The first waitress either forgot about us or didn't want to wait on us because it was almost closing time. Maybe about 40 min before. Which we didn't know and when we asked they said they were still open. So we stayed. After a while of no response from the first girl we flagged down another waitress and she was amazing. Made up for it all. She made sure we were set up with a couple of drinks and it was great. The atmosphere is very "Trópical", which I liked. Good music, cute dining area. The food?? Chefs kiss!! We started with fried pickles and chicharrón shrimp. Those chicharrón shrimp are DELICIOUS!! The guac they serve it with is also delicious! I almost wished we just ordered two plates! Not that the pickles weren't good because they were. Those shrimp are just that good. Each of us ordered different plates and we each tried them all. That's what we usually do so we can get a good judgment. The fish tasted fresh and seasoned well. My favorite was the salmon which ordered. They didn't tell me but apparently they ran out of the cilantro rice that came with it so I didn't get to try it, but the black beans were tasty. Great ceviche!!

The only thing missing...is the sand & sea! This restaurant has a great feel, seating inside and out with a comfortable near the ocean atmosphere. Lots of great choices on the menu (we had a difficult time deciding). I decided on the Lela's Cajun seafood plate. The dish was enjoyable, a creamy Cajun sauce with a nice melody of seafood and rice. My wife enjoy the Langosta al carbona. The tails & prawns were grilled nicely with a flavorful sauce. The cilantro rice over black beans was a nice complement to the dish & the tomato, red onion salad a refreshing addition. We asked our server for a dessert recommendation & my wife said she didn't disappoint! Neither of us can remember the name (see picture). Everyone was great! If you're looking for mariscos, Lela's is a much try. We will be returning & definitely trying the Chicharron Shrimp appetizer, it looks delicious!!

Amazing fresh charcoal-grilled lobster... you can taste the quality. Super warm, "family owned" vibes. Definitely coming back.

Amazing fresh charcoal "grilled lobster" flavor and texture were perfect. The staff was so kind and welcoming, true family-owned vibes. They even offered me an appetizer while I waited. Amazing place, highly recommend.

Customer service was EXCELLENT! Free margarita for first time customers which was a nice surprise. The food was bomb dot come! I had the fried catfish and my husband the beef/chicken/shrimp fajitas (very well seasoned but he did mention the shrimp was a little tough) I had no complaints about my catfish, pieces so huge I could only eat one, will definitely be back and hopefully they're here to stay!

Lela's was amazing! My husband and I both had seafood that was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious! We were delighted to see that there are also Mexican food choices on the menu. The portions were so big that we needed takeout boxes. Complimentary chips and salsa when you arrive! It's new and we kept saying we were going to try it because we love supporting small businesses and we're so glad we did. We will be back! The staff was kind and efficient!

The smoke from the kitchen basically consumed the dining area and was very irritating. It eventually dissipated after a while, but I wouldn't recommend infants in this environment. After our party was seated, it took 15-20 min before our waiter greeted us and provided water; that was a bit annoying. After we got our orders in, things were smooth sailing from there. We were a large party and our waiter did a pretty good job at managing us and all of our requests. Food: they do not waste time bringing the food out. Most of our orders came out within 10 minutes! I ordered the Short Rib (unfortunately not pictured). It was hot, tender, and seasoned well....very good. It came on a bed of rice and some type of sauce. I was not a fan of either. The rice seemed uncooked and the sauce was too much and very liquid. It drowned the rice and practically made it soupy. I would have been fine with just the short rib. I also ordered a side of black eyed peas... also not a fan. It was undercooked and I didn't love whatever seasoning was used to prepare it. Other items I tried: Fries, Cornbread, Yams, and Soul Rolls. These were all tasty, specifically the soul roll. It came out crispy, hot, and stuff proportionately. I could take every bit of what was inside. It's definitely a must try.

The menu prices could be adjusted downward but it was a nice experience. I'd recommend if you're in the mood for soul food. The sweet potato cornbread was the best!

Hidden gem alert!…read more The Dessert Bar in Midlothian is absolutely worth the hunt, even with the construction mess making it harder to get to right now. Once you find it, though, you'll be glad you did. This spot combines two of my favorite things: decadent desserts + a legit full bar. Whoever came up with this concept deserves a medal. What I had: Raspberry Almond Cake - 5/5. Moist, flavorful, and not overly sweet. The almond balanced the raspberry perfectly, and the slice was massive. Sharing is optional, but I didn't. ;) Chocolate Chip Cookie - 5/5. Giant, warm, and delicious. It had that perfect chewy-meets-crispy texture, and thankfully wasn't dry (a common downfall for oversized cookies). Old Fashioned - 5/5. Honestly, one of the best I've had anywhere. Perfectly balanced, smooth, and strong. I wasn't expecting cocktail game this good at a dessert spot; pleasantly surprised!
