We always do crab for birthday dinner for my oldest and she was beyond content when we left. Love the easy clean up method of topping the tables! Makes you less worried about making a mess as a customer. We ordered two combos to share between a family of 4 and it was AMAZING and plenty to fill us up. The little potatoes were delicious and so perfectly cooked and the seasoning on the crab was on point. Looked so good we forgot to take pictures before we dove in to eat. Finally took time to stop by Captain Crab to check it out to see if it lived up to the hype in Lufkin... I live in Nacogdoches, so this is about 25 mins from me. To be fair, I'm from Houston where "Viet Cajun" is king when it comes to that crave able combination of Louisiana Cajun/ Vietnamese seasoning that is combined to create pure major with crawfish/ crab seafood delights. So being compared to that delectable taste profile , although a decent attempt at good , this fell way short from great. I got the L1 bag with the house spicy sauce that included crawfish ( that were still too hard in the shell) , mussels, (that were pretty good, but a little past al dente to my liking) and shrimp that were big, but also over cooked like rubber band texture). Also the cheese sticks had no cheese pull...I still gave it 3 stars however for the very friendly service and nice atmosphere. But they need to step there game up food wise, because food is why we come! read more

I didn't take any pictures because there was no time to waste getting the shrimp and Crab legs in my belly! So I live in the DFW area but I have employees in Lufkin Texas. I had to get down to do some face to face training but I was determined to get to Captain Crab. I have been there around 10 times now. It's really deceptive when you see the outside. It looks like a tiny place in a strip mall. It's actually pretty big inside. The boiled seafood is perfectly seasoned so fresh and savory. I had the Cajun seasoned mild but it still had a kick. I had to get it to go but 1lb of crab legs and 2 lbs of shrimp with corn fed three of us and had leftovers for dinner. I also grabbed the seafood fried rice. Shrimp, crawfish and scallops with fried rice yes please threaten me with a good time!! I think it took maybe 7 minutes to get my order and get me out the door and I highly encourage everyone to try this restaurant and I know you will be back. read more

My boyfriend and I went out to eat here last night, we had fried squid for an appetizer and for our entrees we had the boil bags with shrimp, mussels, octopus and crab. I love the calamari. It came out hot and crispy. On our entrees, the flavoring, the captain's special blend, is excellent-most of the food was really good but some was overcooked-like the shrimp, most likely because all the foods were cooked together and have different cook times. Cajun food? Not even close. The problem becomes apparent when an ex Louisiana resident eats there. It should be called "Faux Cajun". The crab legs can not be picked twice on a pick 3 platter even when you offer to pay more? And the whole bag was over steamed/boiled. Couldn't get the crab meat out of shell. The waitress acted put upon when asked for a second pair of crab crackers (bc 2 platters were order & maybe we were to share 1 set?) No utensils, no salt or pepper. The crawfish were mushy, the shrimp tasted like rubber. And 1 boil bag had blue crab instead of snow crab, which matters when you only get 1 snow crab pee their half lb allowance on the the platter. The sweet potato fries were plain and it's inconceivable when kids won't eat the chicken tenders bc "they don't taste right", i.e: tasted like a fried rubber boot. Complete waste of $100 for 2 adults & 1 child. I have no problem spending money on good food but it's always disappointing to spend good money on bad food. read more
