The place has really cool decor, the pics, stickers, and even the old school arcade games really add to the atmosphere. The service was nice, fast, and friendly as well. Unfortunately I wasn't a big fan of the food. My meatball sandwich was okay, and the macaroni salad tasted similar to one that can be bought from the store. The price for all the food is great though

Came here as a random stop on a Sunday. Place was full - 6 tables of 4 seats each. Staff was helpful and courteous. Subs came out in 6-8 minutes. We got a Club, BLT w/turkey and a Ham/Provolone. Bread was soft and tasted fresh. Subs PACKED with meat. Fun to look at the pictures and fun things on the walls. I would definitely come back!

We came here after playing some mini golf near by. They have a very eclectic interior of their shop and I highly recommend reading some of the items on the walls, it's fun. We got the French dip and a bbq chicken sandwich. One thing I noticed was the small pink sign by the register that says sourdough is an up charge. My friend wasn't too happy that they weren't notified verbally, which is understandable since they lead with the sourdough option it seems. Since I don't like sourdough, I chose white bread for the French dip. It was a decent dip but the biggest issue was how little au jus they give you (we had to ask for another serving). The second serving was just as small. If it helps provide a visual, they fill the styrofoam container to the first line from the bottom which isn't even enough for half a sandwich. My boyfriend's bbq chicken was good and it was packed well with ingredients. He used to go there as a kid but mentioned it isn't how he remembered the sandwiches to be. Overall, it's seems like a good sandwich shop, they just have to work on a proper amount of au jus per sandwich.

How have I been alive this long and never been to Captain Bill's before today? What a fun and eclectic place. Open since 1981 And still serving affordable sandwiches! How many places can you still find a sub for around $5 with some at $2.99. This place was busy when we arrived and people just kept coming, that tells me so much right there. The inside is small with maybe 6 tables, some old school arcade games and no shortage on fun things to look at. There is also outside seating. We were greeted quickly and when we told the employee we'd never been in she answered some questions and let us know her favorites. She sold me on the Captain Cooler drink which is fruit punch, lemonade and sprite. It was so good! Wasn't overly sweet which was surprising, but very refreshing. They offer 5,8,10 inch subs. We ordered two combos. Mine with an 8 inch club and potato salad. My husband a 8 inch Italian and chips. Everything was brought to our table and looked fantastic. The bread didn't get soggy which I loved and the toppings fresh. I typically don't get onion etc on my subs, but I let them make it their way and just added some pickles. Perfection! My husband really enjoyed his Italian. I'd like to come back and try the spicy beef and a few others. Service was friendly and fast. There's a reason this place has survived so long. Come check them out.

Sloppy mess

The captain and his girls and his food hit the Titantic today at lunch. Whatever they called brisket on my sandwich was mostly inedible and the sandwich itself was sloppy and disgusting. The girls, in shorts, are nice, but someone put the whole jar of bbq sauce on the sandwich and this also took a trip through the microwave at some point. I'm bailing ship. They owe me $10.

Captain Bills is a north central Phoenix mainstay. I was in high school in the mid 80s, and in those days tables were topped with pennies. Today, the tables are all topped with photos from when I was there in high school. So fun! Decor is the same since then. Overstuffed, gaudy, and super fun! The staff are friendly and efficient. An 8 inch sandwich a sub and a drink for about less than $10? That's awesome!

Solid sandwiches with great prices. We got 2 sandwiches, 2 bags of chips, and a large soda for $24. Can't beat that! This is the type of place that isn't trying to reinvent the wheel but is rather just making really solid basics. It's like the sub shop version of Chuck Box. I can see why this place has been around 40 years.

Spicy Beef

The food was delicious (and a great value for the price.) The service was quick and courteous-walked everything out to us. This is definitely worth the trip.

A delightful spot with great food and service without punching you in the wallet! Nice and clean, with a great atmosphere, and they are fast! Definitely check this place out!

The inside is a small, highly decorated place. Got a sub here to go but it didn't taste all that amazing.

Good sandwiches and the interior is pretty cool with all the stuff hanging from the ceiling. Very nostalgic.

I'll stick with Goodcents. So much better sandwich was made sloppily and the Italian dressing was way too sweet

I just basically wasted over ten dollars on this sandwich. Got home and the bread is falling apart, it's just gross.

When you walk through the door of this little deli, you are greeted like you are home. Everyone is…read moreso friendly and that is refreshing in a big metropolis like Phoenix. We saw all the desserts right when we walked in and let me tell you, sooooo good. We settled for deli sandwiches and some salads. All very good. I plan to try everything on the menu so this will one of many reviews. The value was quite reasonable and we had leftovers, so two meals from one sandwich! So much meat on it that you fill up fast. The best part about being in the deli is the atmosphere. There is a full grocery store of Italian foods, people eating at the dining area and ordering going on at the deli counter. It is a fun place to be. Highly recommend!

Romanelli's is a marvelous Italian grocery store. TEN STARS! The kind of place that hits you with…read morenostalgia before you even grab a basket. I stepped into this joint and transported back in time - Sunday after church, five years old again with my grandparents, standing at the counter of Giannella's in Paterson, NJ. With the exception of the cashier dude, the staff was...uh..."mezza morto," and definitely in need of some Italian or Italian-American inspiration. A little life. A little rhythm. A smile perhaps. I ordered a chicken cutlet sandwich, add wet mozzarella, hot soppressata, roasted red peppers, oil, and balsamic.. The cutlets were too thick and the mozzarella, although fresh, was strangely tasteless. Apparently this sandwich was infused with gold, crypto, or something because it rang in at $24 with the add-ons. My person had the eggplant parm, which unfortunately was over-seasoned with only a slight trace of mozzarella. The marinara on the side was undefinable. We hit the bakery on the way out. The sfogliatella and cannoli were great, and so were the ladies behind the counter, warm, lively, and actually happy to be there. Look, I'm goin' back to Romanelli's. I'll even pay another $24 for a sandwich. There's a reason this place has been there for decades, and they deserve another shot.
