    Deluxe Burger and Fries
    Brendan W.

Oh the memories of Captain America's!!!! It hasn't changed a bit!! Over - priced Eddie Rockets. Now that really is saying something as Eddie Rockets is known as "Empty Your Pockets" within my circle of friends..... I used to come here as a teen and had also been here as a chisler. I brought my little cuz here after the cinema on Saturday as much of a treat for me as for him. I ordered the deluxe burger which came with fries and was €14!!!! €14 for burger and fries. My Coke then cost nearly €3. €17!!!! I am sorry but that is nonsense. The burger meat itself was pretty good but not amazeballs. Salad on burger fresh enough and the bun was a standard Bundy Bun. The fries were OK, but pretty greasy. The only saving grace for spending €17 on myself was the fact that my cousins meal was €5. The kids meal deals are great value but I guess the clever peeps at Captain America's know that they can charge €17 for an adult to eat if they are only charging €5 for the kid. The kids meal - choice or burger, nuggets, pizza, hotdog, lasagne etc with fries and a drink (soft or juice) and a desert. The portion was pretty big too. So my lil cuz was well happy!!!! If I was without a kid coming here I wouldn't come here plain and simple. But will deffo be back with my lil cuz. The kids meal is giving a 3 out of 5. If it was just for me I would have given it a 2!!

If you like good fun, good food, and a whole lot of crazy crap on the walls, Captain America's is your only man. Captain America's serves typical steakhouse fare, but with the added ambience of guiters and pictures of Bono tacked on the walls. Cap A's do fry a good steak though, so it is worth the effort of eating while labouring under the gaze of Paul Hewson's dead eyes. And, if you happen to be a short on the readies (aren't we all?), Cap A's do a great student menu. Burger + chips + soft drink = €10. Not too bad. And Monday - Wednesday is student nights, which is €3 pints and €3 cocktails, though the cocktails you can get for €3 are limited to the low-alcohol varieties like Blue Lagoons and Sex on the Beach. You can get the good cocktails for just a fiver though (their Long Island Iced Tea is sure to put hairs on your chest). According to their website, Captain America's student nights are accompanied by a band on Mondays, table quiz on Tuesdays and Kareoke on Wednesdays. Now, somewhere in the dim recesses of my brain I definitely remember a band of some description, but I have no recollection of either table quizzes or kareoke. Perhaps this is a very recent addition, or perhaps it is just a testament to the potency of the Long Islands. If you are planning to go on the student nights and just drink, food be damned, be warned! Cap A's try to keep the tables for people who are ordering food, and might try to make you stand at the bar. A way to get around this is to buy a single plate of chicken wings between everyone at the table at the start of the evening and voilá, you are officially dining patrons. No standing at the bar for you.

    Buffalo Wing Platter €11

My friends suggested Cap't Americas for dinner so I thought I'd give it a try. First, the menu is very hard to read because of the color combinations. Yes, red and blue are opposite colors, but you need to play with the hues in order for them to play off each other. The specials literally hurt to look at. I ordered the starter Buffalo Wings (€11.95) as my entree because on a scale of 1 to American, their proportions are American--and I had a mean craving for wings. You get to choose between three different flavors: BBQ, Cajun, and Hot & Spicy. I thought the safest way to go would be BBQ. In all honesty, the wings weren't bad, but I don't think they were worth nearly €12. Not to mention my wings arrived with sauce all over the bowl. I don't know what it was, either the heat or what, but I wasn't really feeling the place. On another note, my friend ordered the same, but she ordered a side of chips and they were kind of magical; trust me, you need an order of those! My table also ordered a pitcher of Passion Punch (€25), which was pretty good. It consisted of Absolut vodka, peach schnapps, apple juice and passion fruit purée. I'd definitely say this is a deal as it gave four ladies two full glasses! That's ~€2.50 per cocktail--it seems their alcohol menu is economically sound. So if you're with a group of friends, I'd definitely recommend getting a pitcher off their drinks menu. tl;dr -- Food, no. Chips + Alcohol, yes!

    Chicken enchilada

The ambiance is fun and cute, but the food is mediocre to downright terrible. The only good thing was the garlic cheese bread and, according to my pescatarian daughter, the Halloumi Burger. My husband had a burger which he thought was meh, and I had the chicken enchilada which was horrible. Another reviewer said the Nachos were great so we got them, thumbs down. Oh, and it was super slow, took forever to get the food. It gets two stars because the location is good and decor is entertaining.

Wow, one of the most expensive places I've ever been to. My wife and I split a barbecue burger and I believe it cost the equivalent of $26. It was above-average tasting, but service was pretty slow. Still, a unique place that Bono frequented, and our snickers dessert was very rich and delicious. Worth checking out.

Tower of long island ice tea for 2 please!
    Victoria C.

Went here Friday after work (looking like a nacker I might add), anyway I went here with a co worker and we decided to get drinks and dinner. But instead of getting 1 or two drinks we got a tower!!! 1 and a half hour later after a full meal and half a tower I staggered home.. Tower was a good idea but you'd have to be four people at least but it was only 30€! :) The food was typical diner food nothing special but real good when you are craving it ;)

Captain America's has been serving up the American dream (in burger format) to hungry Dubliners since the 70s. Back then it was one of a kind - it introduced Dublin to burger and chips long before anyone had heard of McDonald's, Burger King or childhood obesity. It continues to serve an array of massive meaty burgers, flame-grilled steaks, dips, chips and more amid classic American diner surroundings. The atmosphere is lively which may be due in no small part to the colourful selection of cocktails on offer - try the Margarita, an oldie but a goodie. My visits have always been impromptu so I've had to wait for a table but that's alright if you don't mind propping up the bar for while (and why should you, it's a pretty extensive bar). Celebrity memorabilia adorns the walls making it the kind of place that offers talking points if you're struggling for conversation with your friend's boyfriend's cousin's wife or whoever landed up beside you: "Oh look, there's Bono's first tooth hanging beside an envelope once opened by Colin Farrell". Just keep that going until the Margarita's kick in! Captain Americas endured these 40 years because it's not just a generic American diner but it's Dublin's American diner. The same could not be said for the rake of franchises along Grafton Street that could easily be sitting on any street in any city in the world.

    Wicked burgers!

This was a cool place. Lots of good memorabilia crammed everywhere and a great atmosphere. I have the loaded potatoe skins and a classic burger. The food was excellent! The service was great, absolutely nothing to fault. They also do a wicked cider that may well be the best I've ever had... Only wish more burger places were like this. This place puts Eddie Rockets to shame.

The big smoke burger with side salad and a Guinness
    Cella B.

We were craving burgers and decided to give this place a try. It was pretty busy for a Tuesday evening so we had to wait 10-15mins. Once we got to our table we waited almost another 10mins by the time our server came by so by that point we had our food orders ready at the same time as the initial drink order. We ordered 4 meals; the mushroom burger, the cheeseburger, the big smoke and the kids penne bolognese with salads, cheesy garlic bread and baked potatoes for the sides. The burgers are huge and tasty however there were pieces of small bones found in the mushroom burger (not just one but a few small pieces). As soon as we told our server she got the manager and they took it away and apologized profusely. We ordered the ribs in place of the mushroom burger just to be safe and it came out quickly and was tasty. They didn't charge for the mushroom burger but did charge full price for the ribs and the rest of the meals (no discount). We aren't originally from Ireland so not sure how restaurants normally work but usually in Canada they give you some sort of a discount or else give the replacement meal for free because of the inconvenience. Overall this place is just ok. They dealt with the situation well but the rest of experience and food wasn't enough to wow us to return.

The Frenchie burger and a Sex on the Beach
    Grace W.

Every time I come to Captain America's, I have such a great time! The food is always extremely tasty (especially the Frenchie burger, which I recommend highly, if you enjoy onion rings~!) and there's always quite a lot of it! Similarly, this place is quite good for cocktails and they have student days on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (from what I can remember!) so some cocktails and other drinks are extremely cheap those days! However the cocktails in general are really tasty (Woo Woos and Sex on the Beach, of course~!) It's always a nice night out here, and not overly expensive so I would recommend it and suggest coming here with friends for a dinner out! :)

    Fried mushrooms with garlic mayo

Here you'll find reasonably priced American-ish food that isn't all that bad. Finding an inexpensive lunch spot in Dublin is a tricky feat. Hunger + prices + my husband's penchant for comics got us through the doors and up the stairs. It's a bar and grill kind of place with nice big windows at the back. Not bad. The menu looks like one you'd find in so many restaurants in the U.S. All of the familiar favorites. Well, maybe YOUR favorites. I'm not all that crazy about the cuisine of my own country. I let my husband pick, and we shared an app and an entree. While the menu is very American, the food itself has a bit of a twist. Fried mushrooms: pretty good. Just what you'd expect. Americans typically dip them in ranch, but these were served with garlic mayo. They should bottle this stuff, because it's pretty killer. I even ate the remaining dip with the chips (french fries) that came with our entree. Enchilada: interesting... it was an enchilada, I suppose. The chicken was in pieces, rather than shredded, for one. Mostly, though, the seasoning was... unexpected. It had more of an Italian flavor, rather than Mexican. It wasn't bad, but I don't think that I would order it on purpose. It's always interesting to see how American food is translated in another country, and the prices are good. The service was fine and the food was just okay. Not much to write home about.

I used to LOVE coming here when I was younger - I just thought it was the coolest place, EVER. To me, it was like a grown up McDonalds. Actually, I think I'm right about that too! It's basically like an American diner meshed with an American steakhouse - burgers, chips, chicken, milkshakes, cocktails, leather booths, neon lights, music memorabilia...all mixed together for a good night out. The food is hardly outstanding, but it's fun place to go with friends or with your family. They also do great cocktails too and the staff make a big effort. A little overpriced, but nothing too crazy.

The memorabilia on the walls almost makes it worth a visit. The food is ok-they have fish and chips, various sandwiches, etc. It's a casual place and has some outside seating as well as table seating and a bar. The service was ok. They forgot to bring one person's tea until about the third request after we were finished with the meal. They do have a kid's menu. I had the fish and chips. The chips (fries) were quite good. Fish was ok. Prices are average and for a family, a decent place to go.

During our research before we left we saw a video talking about Bunsen. Just seeing the high quality of the ingredients made it one of our must try stops in Dublin. As we do when traveling, we start and end the day eating throughout the day. We popped into Bunsen to finally try the legendary burger around 4:30 pm. Because we were there at such an odd hour, we were the only people there. When you visit Ireland, the pub culture is real and most pubs start to get quite busy around 5:30 pm. Since Bunsen isn't a pub and wasn't located in a particularly touristy area , it didn't surprise me they were empty at that time of day. What stuck out the most at first was the super friendly service right from the door. We were sat at a small banquet of tables against the wall and checked out the menu from QR code link on the table. We were there for their original burger so that is what we ordered. No sides and water to drink. I couldn't be filling up too much yet. It was pretty early after all and we had a lot of places to stop yet. The menu isn't huge. They focus on doing one thing well and keep it at that. I like a restaurant that doesn't try to be everything. Our burger came out within 10 min and it was juicy, hot and fresh. Presented beautifully wrapped. We shared this one burger because, we knew we had lots of food to eat later. Immediately after eating the last bite I wanted to order another. It was really that good. Such perfection! This will be the burger I compare all others in Ireland to.
