I've always passed by Cap't Loui so I finally decided to check them out. We went on a weekday and it was pretty packed. I did notice it is a smaller sized restaurant and even though they have outside seating, it was too cold this particular evening. However, we were eventually greeted and seated. Since this was our first time here, we asked our waitress for suggestions and she told us they are known for their seafood boils. They do have other dishes, but based on the menu, we decided to go with her suggestion and order a seafood boil which came with corn, potatoes, shrimp with the head off, and 2 clusters of crab legs. Our boil also came with a choice of rice or garlic noodles so we ordered the noodles. We also added an order of sausage to the boil. I believe since they were very busy, it took a while for us to receive our food, but our waitress did a great job of checking in on us while we waited. Once we received our food, it was served hot but it seemed as though the food in the boil was slightly overcooked. The Cap't Loui Canjun seasoning was good but it didn't seep well into the crab legs but it did for the other food items. But of course we had enough sauce in the boil so we used it like a dipping sauce. The garlic noodles were actually delicious. Warning, they are very garlicky as well as the seafood boil. The restaurant appeared to be clean and it was also bright and inviting with the nice music playing overhead. It almost seemed like a big party in there with great vibes. We ordered the crab and shrimp (colossal shrimp) boil. The crab was perfect; I could easily get all the meat out because the shells were cooked just right and cracked easily. The shrimp were a little overcooked -- curled like a C and a bit tough, but they still tasted good. The corn was cooked too long. The potatoes, however, were delicious. Our server SAN was excellent; she met every need we had with a big smile. The place has a hipster vibe with good music playing overhead. If you need to use the restroom, make sure to take your GPS with you--there are a lot of turns. The bathrooms were nice, clean, and stocked with plenty of soap and paper towels. read more

We had our first visit last night. We were all very pleased. I had one of my favs, the fish and chips. It was very good. The fish was nice and flaky, not dry, and very crispy on the outside. The Cajun fries were very good as well. Wifey had the fried shrimp. 10 to an order, they were very good. My daughter had a boiler bag with crab, potatoes and corn. She said it was amazing and seasoned very well, and she eats this type of food once a week so I consider her an expert. Overall we were very happy with the food. First, I am a Cajun from New Orleans, so I was raised on seafood. I was excited to hear about a new seafood restaurant in North Alabama because we lack quality seafood in this region. So a group of us went to Cap't Loui's on Father's Day. Service - The service was very good and friendly. They took the time to explain the menu and various options. Location - It is located in front of Walmart in a small commercial strip building and can seat maybe 40 people. The chairs are hard metal so bring a cushion! Food - I ordered the fried shrimp basket. The shrimp were good, but some still had their tails on. The cajun fries were disappointing, frozen shoe-string-like fries with cajun seasoning. We had some small kids with us and unfortunately, they didn't have a kids menu so they split a chicken tender dinner. Price - My shrimp basket was about $20 with tax, gratuity, and a soft drink. Not bad, but the boil bags that you order by the pound are expensive. One pound of King Crab is $75!!!! I know inflation is out of control and Huntsville is 500 miles from the beach, but, come on man, $75 for 1 pound? read more

It was our first time eating here and I'd say it wasn't as good as I thought. Crab was dry and flavorless, their Cajun sauce choice was oddly sweet (not sure if this is just their signature way to do it but yeah, super weird I've never had a sweet seafood boil) and had to add seasoning to it which was unfortunate and annoying. My gfs po'boy was good though so happy for that which is the only reason why this wasn't just an easy 1 star decision. read more

The place is small, and can get noisy. I've been here twice. Ordered the calamari basket with Cajun fries to-go and came back a week later with family to sit down and eat. The Cajun fries were average. They didn't taste any different than regular fries. The calamari basket was delicious and I'll order it again. Inside, I ordered the Crab Po-Boy. It was huge and delicious. I thought it had a bit too much sauce but will also order this again. Got Lemon-pepper fries which were phenomenally better. Service was good & relatively fast. The restaurant was empty at opening on a Saturday. The wait staff was super friendly and attentive. It was clean and sports on all the televisions save one. So far I've had the fried shrimp and Fish N Chips and chicken tenders. The fries are consistently bland no matter the seasoning. The shrimp however is always seasoned well as were the tenders. A review of Cap't Loui for the non-seafood eater. Huge caveat, obviously, since they mostly do seafood, particularly boil-in-bag deals that are so popular now, and the standard fried seafood baskets. However, for anyone who's curious about their terrestrial fare...read on. I was in the neighborhood and ordered online for carryout since it was the most convenient place near me that I hadn't tried yet (and I gotta try everything in town...eventually). I wound up placing two online orders because husband let me know at the last minute he also wanted something. This restaurant is located sort of in the same parking lot as a Walmart. It was a little bit smaller inside than I expected it to be. Parking was easy. The interior is comfortable and decorated to match the seafood/vaguely Cajun theme. Ordering online was easy and seamless, though I wonder if there's a surcharge or if the prices are just a little high anyway (~$16 a meal, no drinks). At any rate, there's a takeout counter / hostess counter and the gentleman in charge of it was very polite. My orders were packaged perfectly. The food was very okay. I will admit likely the quality suffered on the way home. That being said, I tried a bite of my food as I was loading into the car just to try it fresh and still found it...just okay. I ordered the chicken tender basket and husband got the wing basket. I had regular fries and he opted for Cajun. Neither of the fries were anything special, even when fresh - thin, freezer type variety, and soggy even to start - but the Cajun fries were slightly better. The portion sizes on the chicken tenders were more than ample (5 huge tenders) and you could easily split the meal. They reminded me very much of Popeye's tenders -- a little dry, very crunchy -- but lacked seasoning in the breading. Husband's wings, on the other hand, were well seasoned and just a little bit spicy. I think these are the better item of the two. That being said, the aioli-type sauce they packaged the baskets with added some needed pizazz. Meals come with slaw but I didn't try because I tend not to like it. All this to say...probably worth a shot if you're a seafood lover, but not a destination visit if not. Not terribly surprising. YMMV if you have a more open-minded palate than me. Enjoy :) read more

I have been multiple times and the staff is super nice and have given great advice or instructions every time. They are attentive and friendly. The food is AH-MAZING! Wonderfully seasoned fresh seafood boil , the raw oysters are as good as any high end restaurant , great sides especially the garlic noodles , soft crab and slaw. The seafood is generously sized. Lunch boil is a great value. Wish they had a better adult beverage menu but the food and service is so good it's still 5 stars to me! read more

I obviously tasted a little bit of everything here...my favorite was the Lobster ans crab boil with captains sauce spiciness "hot". The sauce was probably some of the best I have tasted around here, sweet and spicy did the trick. The oysters were okay quality. As for the fried foods, the fries were nice ans crunchy along with everything else. The remoulade definitely helped the flavor out quite a bit. Friday's during lent and I was looking for seafood, fried shrimp in particular. Arrived early - glad we did. Hostess was really sweet. Waitress was sweet too, and the service was great. Wife ordered Fish n Chips, I went for the fried shrimp. Got the fries, and split the garlic pasta. Wife loved her fish, and I had a bite and it was pretty good. My fried shrimp were perfect. Fries - solid, not the best, not the worst - somewhere in between. Garlic pasta - someone else posted they got this, so I we went for it. Very good stuff. I'd get it again. We got the beignets - this was a low point. Bit too doughy to call a beignet, more like thick fried dough. Also, 2 of these tiny bites for $3 is a bit much. Staff was great. Food was very good. Price was good, other than the beignets. We'll happily go back. read more

I thought Cap't Loui was pretty good. I had the fish and chips basket. The fish was cooked properly with good season and it tasted great. It was a mild white fish. The fries were seasoned with Cajun seasoning, they were a little over seasoned, but still very good. The cole slaw that came with it wasn't that great, no reason to put sugar in cole slaw but they did. It was very sweet. My wife had the headless shrimp boiled in a bag with a side of pasta. The shrimp tasted pretty good, it wasn't full of flavor, but it was good. The pasta was buttered with some cheese and garlic. I'm not sure if that's intended to be eaten with the seasoning in the bag, but as it is, it was a nice and different side dish. I'll probably come back again when I am in that area of town. I wouldn't make a long journey for it, but it is a nice addition to the local cuisine. read more

I wanted a seafood boil so I decided for convenience I'd order from Cap't Loui. The food was good but nothing special. It was Waaayyyy to expensive. I ordered snow crab (it was 2 clusters) $40. Everything in a typical boil was Alecarte. Corn($3.99 (3 pieces) potatoes $3.99 (4 red) sausage $9.99. I didn't realize I spent 9.99 on sausage. I thought they were $3.99 like the other things I orderd. I heard about the noodles so I tried them. Mine were stuck to the wax paper that covered them. Didn't get shrimp as I'm already at $78. I had a bag of XL shrimp from Kroger ($15.99) so I steamed and added to the sauce. Like I said, it was good but, NOT $78 GOOD. Pier 88 and Juicy Crab are just as good and half the price and worth the drive. read more

Nice change of pace for casual seafood. Garlic noodles are fabulous! Seafood was a bit overdone but I'm so picky with cooking it and my husband loved it so it can't be too bad. We've tried several dishes and have enjoyed them all. I would like an occasional plain steamed batch with lemon butter but that's me and everyone we've brought or recommended has enjoyed the food! I do crave the shrimp with their spicy Korean inspired taste. About the only thing I haven't tried is the crab dishes, the look fabulous going by but it's kind of expensive so I'll save that for a special occasion. Price is on par with other seafood places so it's not that pricey, I'm just a bit more frugal. Will definitely come for crab on birthday's though!! read more
