If Blue crabs are your jam, this is 100% a must try!…read more Lured by the intrigue of AYCE Maryland blue crabs, we made our trip on a hot August Saturday. Huge outdoor tents with picnic tables and a sandy floor really set the scene for us. We ordered a bucket of beer and dug in as soon as our trays of crab came out. Good, but not strong or spicy flavors and our server was Jane-on-the-spot to offer up another helping when she saw us getting low. The AYCE comes with corn & Hush Puppies, which are tasty and not too large, but I personally left behind the extra carbs in favor of more crab pickin'. The kids from a table near loved the sandy floor, occupying themselves building small sandcastles while their parents enjoyed a similar Crab heavy table - so great for families. Pro tip: Make sure to grab a table that's level - the sandy floor and hilly ground make for some tilting table-tops so beer placement must be careful!

We arrived just as they were opening and the first question asked was "take out or eat in?" I just had to laugh because to eat in meant eating outside under a tarp roof on paper covered picnic tables. And, yes if you are going to enjoy a Maryland crab shack you don't do take out ... you eat in!! The young man waiting on us was scrambling because his co-worker was running late but he provided us with the service we wanted including his recommendation to go for the fried ... if we wanted the best! The three of us were really enjoying out lunches until we saw the platters carried out to nearby tables. OH MY the crab and shrimp made our mouths water ... we wanted more but really weren't hungry but each piece of seafood looked perfect. Definitely will make a return visit when the season opens ... it's only a 2 hour drive ... worth the drive but next time I will be really hungry!!!

The dining room has booths and table seating with tile floors and high pitch ceiling with windows for natural light. The breakfast offerings include eggs, omelets, pancakes, French toast, and oatmeal. The lunch/dinner offerings include sandwiches, burgers, subs, seafood, salads, soups, chili, quesadillas, fried foods, pasta dishes, meatloaf, turkey dinner, chicken dinners, roast beef, pork dishes, and desserts. They offer daily specials too including weekday breakfast & lunch specials I stopped by Ark House on a rainy afternoon. I arrived here and the place wasn't too busy after the lunch rush. I was seated in a booth and given a menu to look at. I requested an ice water and ordered the Shrimp Parm with Spaghetti ($14.99 plus tax) with choice of one side (chose mac & cheese) and garlic toast. The food came out in 12 minutes after I ordered. The portion of food was good which was comprised of 8 breaded jumbo shrimp topped with red sauce & melted cheese with a side of soft cooked spaghetti with a sweet meat sauce. The mac & cheese (orange) was very dense and rich. The thick slices of garlic toast were soft and buttery. After I was done, the check was brought over which was $15.89 with tax and before tip. I paid at the front register. Overall, the food I had was fantastic and I was a bit torn whether to choose a pasta dish or a traditional country homestyle meal. The shrimp parm was very tasty and hot as was the mac & cheese. The service was friendly and adequate. I was glad I stopped here instead of going to a smorgasbord restaurant, which was very packed and pricey. The meal I had at Ark House Diner was pretty reasonable.

The crab tasted horrible. They tasted very fishy and almost spoiled. There were literally CLUMPS of HAIR in the food. I've never felt more UNSAFE in a restaurant. The waiters were so mean to us. And it took 10 minutes at a time to track one of the down. One was complaining about her job, one threw our utensils down on the table with a grunt and walked away, and the other (when asked why a 34 dollar tip was already included) picked up a menu and underlined the "automatic 15% tip" and snarked at our table. The same one made a rude comment to us about not finishing all of our disgusting food. There were cameras everywhere and my friends counted 20 of them. The entire experience was very off putting. We are all very upset as we were excited to finally have a seafood boil (which we had been talking about for months). EDIT: THE BATHROOM DOOR DOESNT LOCK!! My friend got walked in on. Our server was sprinting table to table and complaining about her job. They never asked us for drink refills. And the waiter rudely told us we should've ordered off the menu for cheaper food. Another edit: my chest hurts so bad I GOT FOOD POISONING

Plus, it's a hidden gem kind of place for us, since we're not from the area and it took a little digging. They have the reviews to get your interest, and the food lived up to the hype. We came here after a charity MS Walk held at the Iron Pigs stadium in Lehigh Valley, heading north on the way home to Bear Creek. My brother noted how close they are to Penn's Peak, and since I've never been, it looks like we have a great place to chill post-concert when I finally get myself to a show there. The cheesesteaks are a far cry from wiz-wit, but that's how you want it and the chopped pickles bring that hit of acid, not Phish-enduced. The chicken sandwich was enormous but you could still get a solid grip; incredible crunch, flavor that's just more than the hot honey heat, and a refreshing crisp from the lettuce on that buttery bun. The Bourbon Blackberry BBQ pork was on the sweeter side, but why the hell not; the meat was still savory, the cheddar was the right call and the slaw cut through it all. The mussels were a special for the day; elevated and so flavorful, they could have been on any big city menu.
