We ordered a Margherita pizza and were genuinely impressed, perfectly cheesy with a sauce that was right on point. We also had the kale Caesar salad with shrimp, which was absolutely amazing. The bartender was handling everything on his own, making drinks for both the bar and tables while also keeping things clean...so major credit to him. Hung out before a show, wanted a quick bite. Medium to large venue in Asbury Park. Metered parking all around, attached to a bar, & above a live music venue. Cool spot with good vibes. Dim lighting, but not too dim. Fast & friendly service, but most importantly.....the food is good. All together we had the Vodka Knots, which were excellent. The Cheesy Bread, which doesn't offer much in the way of flavor on its own, definitely relies on the marinara to carry it. Garlic Shrimp, was also very good. Fried Cauliflower is a bit unexpected, it's neither salty, nor sweet & savory....it's actually kinda spicy. I'm not used to it having a kick. Different, not bad....just different. Had dinner last night at Capitoline with a group of 6. The vibe inside is very chill, and I hadn't realized that it is connected to (and owned by the same owner of) Loteria, and Bond Street. We started with the garlic shrimp, Caesar salad, and Meatball which were all good but not showstoppers. That being said - the pizzas were all outstanding: thin crust Fungo mushroom pizza, Caperoni pizza with pepperoni and hot honey (also thin crust), and The Grandpa (my fave) pizza with Foccicia crust with caramelized onions and roasted red peppers. We ordered way too much food but pizza leftovers are never a bad idea! They were unfortunately very short staffed. Our waitress was great but she was also the hostess and serving pretty much every table. Because she was so overworked, this led to a few mistakes with our pizza order, our second round of drinks, and the check. Busboys were great and eager to fill water, or give a to go box, but waitress needs some training. We must have sat at an outside table for at least ten minutes, while she attended to a table who sat down after us. My husband had to get her attention before she darted inside. Bear in mind, there were four tables in total but only ours and the other table were just seated and in need of service. Food came and super good. Waitress checked in on us once before we left. We gave a standard tip because of courteous bus staff, not waitress. Would like to go back but will probably sit at bar. Recently visited Capitoline after they renovated and reopened. We were extremely disappointed that they've raised all of their prices and no longer have any wines in an affordable price point. We've always loved Capitoline and were sad for them that their dinner crowd was never what it should've been...raising the prices is not going to help bring in a crowd. ASBURY PARK: we built up an appetite after Yappy Hour and were walking around downtown Asbury Park looking for a dog-friendly restaurant that was open on a Monday night and discovered Capitoline! We are so happy we did! Leashed-dogs are allowed at the outdoor tables and between the tree-lined street and downtown vibe, it was so nice to be there. On a nice day, they open their windows, so if you are sitting outside, you can hear the buzz of the kitchen. The menu is Italian comfort food and we had a deliciously tender Artichoke Hearts appetizer along with a couple of perfectly made cocktails. It was so good! Our waitress was sweet and attentive and we give her a lot of credit as she had her hands full working tables inside and outside. Capitoline is part of "The Complex", a group of restaurants in AP that all have dog friendly outdoor seating. Fried green tomatoes were ehh. i appreciated the effort, but wasnt a big fan. the "creole" mustard sauce to dip into was a nice touch. Favorite restaurant in asbury! More chic and cool than a fast-casual joint but not too expensive/fancy. Always come here for a cheeky bite to eat after a beach day. The mozzarella sticks are definitely chunky and have a bit of funk form the parm on top to elevate its complexity a bit. The chicken for sure added to the pizza we ordered this time if you want that extra source of protein, if you're super hungry from being at the beach all day. I think all the other pizzas have a different crust because this one specifically says "focaccia crust" on the menu. We stopped in on a whim- daughter, granddaughter, mom- wow! All three generations loved it. We started with vodka garlic knots- fabulous! Had cheese bread, plain pepperoni pizza and meatballs. Whenever I'm in Asbury & I want Italian food i come here. It's the perfect combo of casual & nice, with high quality food, & great ambiance. Whether it's a packed weekend night or a cozy weekday dinner vibe, I always enjoy myself here (and they play good music!). The wait staff are always fun & helpful. My friend & I decided to split the Fried Mozzarella small plate, & a Grandpa pizza with added crispy chicken (we were craving a protein), & it was the best decision I made all week. We both agreed the food tasted fresh & well seasoned. The drink was delicious as well, & I loved how pretty it looked. The reason I was in this bar / restaurant was that my girlfriend's band was playing a show in the basement. There is a bar area, as well as a stage where bands perform located in the basement. While I was hear, I had a few beers, which were not that expensive, and we decided to order the meat lovers pizza to split it. I must say this pizza was delicious. We really enjoyed it. For the price of $22, it was large and loaded with toppings. We could not finish the whole thing. But the pizza tasted great. I enjoyed both cocktails I picked out - one was a fruitier g&t and the other was a Bee's Knees. I love that you can buy a bucket of mini beers for about $8 too. The appetizers were the stars of the show..the tapenade and artichokes were my favorite, but the Italian nachos were also really good. I would also try the house made ricotta. I could see myself coming here just for appetizers, that's how good they are. For dinner, we ordered their deep dish pizzas which were pretty good. So happy I stumbled across this place. From outside looks really cool, and menu was perfect for my group. The host was kind enough to call someone who had the table on hold (which would have fit my party) to accommodate us- it worked out. Our waitress answered all of our questions and was kind enough to accommodate our needs as we had one baby and a 4 yr old (total 7 ppl). I was super happy with the service and then when the food came out we were all pleasantly surprised, everything it was fantastic! My mussels and clams were so tasty, the sauce was so delicious our picky 10 yr old dipped his bread and enjoyed it! The fungo pizza was so tasty, and all portions were healthy - did not skimp on flavor or portion size. I would come back to Asbury just for this place! Gonna give them a solid 4. Few things to note- Immediately upon reviewing the menu, my friend noticed a minor discrepancy in the dessert section. You mention 2 pizzas; the P.B.F. and the Campfire. May I just say that this is an interesting section altogether but I digress. The discrepancy: The P.B.F. pizza mentions "fluff" as a topping. And then, the Campfire pizza mentions "marshmallow fluff" as a topping. What is the difference if you don't mind me asking?? The only fluff I know of is made from Marshmallows. So now I'm just concerned. What is this mystery "fluff?" Needless to say, we did not order a dessert pizza. We did however order a pizza.......... Why did you guys get rid of your deep dish pizza?? Found that to be outrageous. I will say it was really tasty though. We got the grandma pizza and some fried mozzarella. My friend said that the mozz is usually more melty. Bottom line: Capitoline is a great laid back type of Italian eatery and bar along Cookman Ave. Good service at the bar, tasty menu offerings and enjoyable drink options...I like what Capitoline has to offer and the atmosphere they do it in. I am a fan! The Deets: I've had the chance to drop by Capitoline a couple of times now, and I have enjoyed my visits. It's a very relaxed kind of place...part bar, part Italian restaurant with communal type tables, part outside cafe, part wood fired pizzeria. The blend comes together well and I dig the laid back vibe. It's part of what is called The Complex that includes both Bond Street Bar and Loteria (Mexican street food) as well as Capitoline. As I do most of the time, I have sat at the bar to both have a drink and get a meal when there. The bartender was positive, helpful, and always on point when anything was needed. They have a great beer and wine selection (including ciders which I do favor these days), as well as a full bar with custom cocktails. To get things underway this past visit, we shared a Caesar salad that was a pretty good starter but even more, we loved the Italian Nachos there also that were a plate of unique chips topped with asiago cheese sauce, sausage, pepperoncini, tomato, green onions..awesome stuff. My entree was their carbonara pasta (spaghetti with pan fried pancetta, shallot, cream, sunnyside egg on top) and this one really stood out. I've had some great carbonara at places, especially in NYC, and this one can stand with those toe to toe as delicious. I definitely was not disappointed in this selection and I'd go back to it again...however being at the bar beside the pizza prep area, watching them being made and put in/taken out of the stone oven, I'm so tempted to try one next time as they looked amazing. All in all, Capitoline served up some good stuff, and I am looking forward to seeing more of these guys in the future. read more

Five stars given for a couple of reasons: They have done an awesome job of repurposing a space, using many items from older buildings to highlight their space. We love the decor and the windows opening onto Cookman Ave are terrific. Has a real casual vibe. Obviously, the food and beer offerings are high on my priority list and they did a great job here as well. They have 10 or 12 beers on tap and, most importantly, at least 4 Jersey breweries were represented (Kane, Dark City, Carton and Spellbound). This is the kind of support our Jersey breweries need! The menu is nicely laid out and the Italian Nachos at $6 were certainly a hit. Other items looked very good coming out of the kitchen (meatball sandwich looked terrific). They were pumping out pizzas at a steady rate while we were there. Capitoline is one of three establishments that are interconnected (Bond Street Bar and La Loteria are the other two). You can walk from one to the other without going outside - something that will come in handy in inclement weather. There is also a basement area (formerly the Silver Ball Arcade) that has ping pong, foosball and shuffleboard - as well as a really great looking bar. This place has all the earmarks of a winner! Came here to see a band play on a Sunday afternoon. Love the cool vibe atmosphere. A bar to the right and picnic table seating to the left. Stage up front by the windows. Hey shout out to Gluten Free people they have GF ROLLS!! They made me a grilled chicken parmigiana on GF bread. They also have naked balls that you can have on GF. My husband had a regular meatball sub and really liked it. Our server was wonderful and very attentive even when the tables filled. They have outside seating which is pet friendly on warmer days. A gem in asbury. The prices are affordable unlike some other spots in the area. Best known for their pizza and that's what we got. It was two of us so we got a large salad (we took home some it was huge) and a small pizza. It was just enough. We got the white pizza and it was excellent. They seat you at picnic tables so it's not good for a romantic date but something more casual. The house wine was 4 bucks or so which I thought was a steal. They have a bit of outdoor seating too. Downstairs is a bar which I thought was pretty cool. I didn't go down there but it seemed to get busy around 10 pm or so. read more

Our great find last night and another interesting place In Asbury Park. The usual spots were an hour wait for a table of 3 and we were looking for pizza. We found this place and we were able to get a table right away. We walked by it at first because it doesn't scream pizzas place. There was a good selection of beers on tap and in bottles. They brought my husband a taste, of I am not sure what. For my son who asked for Lemonade the waiter explained that it was homemade and not too sweet. So we switched to the Shirley Temple. Really appreciate a waitress that understands what a kid will not like. We got wings, calamari, pickled veggies and a plain pie. The wings were good and savory with a Parmesan garlic not super overwhelming. The calamari were good and crispy the sauce on the side had a nice kick to it. The pickled veggies were basically just cauliflower and green beans. I was ok with getting this because I really wanted just a small plate of salad which for me is lettuce. The pizza comes out bubbling hot. It is a thick crust of deliciousness. It really had nice flavor all around.
