I had the misfortune of calling Charter inquiring about becoming a new customer. They have been in…read morethe process of running fiber down our road and subsequent salespersons have been carpeting the neighborhood with flyers for service. One such flyer caught my attention with an offer for 1Gbps service for $40 a month for 3 years. I even took a picture of it because I felt that was a phenomenal deal. I spoke with Sean/Shawn (he did not spell his name for me) from South Carolina. I will preface the rest of this letter with a statement that I also work in a contact center so I'm aware of the various sales tactics employed to upsell customers that call into them. I knew exactly what I wanted and I informed Sean, I didn't want anything else other than internet service, period. To which Sean informed me that he had no such deal to offer. Instead, Sean wanted to walk me through a list of questions to elicit upsell charges of which I wanted none of. At this point I was reminded of the adage "if it is too good to be true, it probably isn't..." For several minutes I go back and forth with Sean about the flyer that I have a picture of that states this offer to which Sean says does not exist. (I should also clarify. I am driving at this point so I cannot look up the picture.) Sean offers me an email address to send the offer to him directly to see if there's anything they can do to match the offer. It is at this point that Sean states the offer is probably a bundle deal. Meaning I can't get just the $40 a month service without adding on additional services I do not want. At this point I'm at a red light and I look up the picture I had taken of said offer and sure enough in very small print with an asterisk next to the offer lies the telling qualifying print "must purchase a bundle pack to receive the offer." At this point I am mad at myself for not knowing better and very frustrated with Charter's lack of transparency and ease of effort for their consumers. My frustration is not with Sean, yet. At this point I have been on the phone for nearly 20 mins and Sean is following his script trying to get me back on track for a sale. I know this because I also work in a call center to which I tell Sean the very same thing. Here's where things turn. I'm going to be generous to Sean here and I really shouldn't be. I'm going to assume that. Sean heard that I work at his call center, not a call center. Sean then tells me, a customer that is calling you looking to be a new customer, "look, if you work in the same call center as I do, then I don't understand why are you being so difficult with me? You're being a little difficult, um, because if you understand, like, it's really here. We're here really to save money." Wow I informed Sean that I don't work at your call center. I work at a call center. Presumably Sean realizes he screwed up and gets very quiet and I request a supervisor after asking if all of their calls are recorded to which he responded with yes they are. Several minutes pass and Xavier jumps on the line and makes the obligatory apologies for the bad service and that he will coach Sean as appropriate. And proceeds to ask me what it would take to earn my business today. To which the answer is simple. I wanted the gigabit service for $40 a month for 3 years as advertised sans all the fine print. I wanted the gigabit service for $40 a month for 3 years as advertised. And to Xavier's credit or his unwillingness to try, or I'm not sure which, he tells me no one can offer that. I have had Comcast Xfinity service for eight years and I have zero complaints about it. It is not 1Gbps fiber, but it works and it is reliable. I have zero intention of moving my business to Charter at this point along with three other family members and numerous other friends I know in this neighborhood who will share this story.

Horrible customer service, service throttled down constantly, no service at all way too frequently. This company will be out of business as soon as there is an alternative.

WOW! Internet, TV and Phone

WOW! Internet, TV and Phone

Had it not been for the customer service at the office recently when i went, i would be giving them…read more1 star, but the Receptionist was really helpful and actually nice! I really wish there were more cable & Internet providers in Knoxville, however there is not so basically you pick your poison. When moving into our house we actually had a choice between WOW and the other provider (which my mom hated when in her apt, so we chose to go with WOW, plus they also do not cap their data for internet). For the 1st year we didn't have any major issues, just annoyances.. we would loose connection on WiFi occasionally and for some strange reason on the cable audio would go out no matter which TV you were watching, also we kind of hated not being able to search for shows, you have to know what day and time to record, otherwise you miss out. However even with that our monthly bill was reasonable for phone, internet, cable and all the boxes we had compared to the other company. 2 months ago we decided to downgrade our cable some to save money and from there everything went downhill. The next month when I got my bill it was outrageous!! I called customer service right away questioning it and was basically told that our "promotion" had ended so all the money we were saving had ended and while we were saving a whole $13 everything else was back to full price Let's just say I was not a happy camper when I was told a month earlier when I changed my plan that I would be saving more. I then asked what promotions they had and was basically told there are none for "existing" customers only "new" customers (I had a problem with this since without "existing" customers, you don't have any), if we didn't need the Internet and phone, I would have cancelled everything right there. So I told them I was going to look for other providers and hung up. We decided to get rid of the cable completely and returned all of our boxes, which is going to save us $100 a month (and with a big family to support, that is alot). We had to go all the way to the office to return the stuff and while I was there I was talking to the Receptionist about my issues and she told me that the call center is not allowed to give discounts and if I ever had any issues to come there rather than calling because they are able to do more to help. She was also telling me that they now offer a new 1 gig Internet and with the special promotion it will be even cheaper then what I am paying now (since we use A LOT of Internet here, with at least 5 people on at all times), that it would be better than the 110 mbs we currently have. You do have to sign a 2 year contract, but hey its not bad when we don't plan on moving anytime soon and we know our price will always be the same for the next 2 years. We may get cable again one day, but I doubt it since we mostly watch things online. Over all I would recommend going to the office if the call center is unable to help you like they did me because the office is way nicer and much more helpful.

Quite literally the worst company and customer service ever. I moved out of my apartment and…read morecancelled service. Dropped off the equipment at the Knoxville drop box and they continue to tell me I didn't drop it off and I owe them $235. I've called multiple times and can't get a single person to try and help me with this. Will never recommend or use again. You also cannot go into the office. The doors are locked and "closed to the public" and there's no in person customer service
