Before I purchased a Visual Comfort Dining Room Chandelier, Capitol Lighting had 12 one-stars. Now they have 13. I don't believe the issue is just with one salesperson but rather the company's overall mindset. The Chandelier was a floor model, so I bought it as NON-CANCELLABLE/NON-RETURNABLE, FINAL SALE ITEM, NO RETURNS, AS IS for $2,407.50. I had no issue with this. The Chandelier is made of brass and has visible corrosion and pit marks. What they failed to tell me was that four parts to set the Chandelier to the proper height were missing. The parts supply had the light setting two feet too high. Unacceptable. I was shocked when they informed me that I had to purchase the parts myself, as I had assumed I was dealing with a reputable company. They told me they would deal with the manufacturer themselves to get a quote. Their quote came in at $513.28. My quote directly from the manufacturer came in at $299.60. Not only did they fail to offer to cover this cost for good customer support, but they also felt the need to profit from their mistake by marking up the items by 71%--bad people. I replied and was told what I was looking for was sprinkled throughout the showroom. She walked away. I roamed around by myself for about 15 minutes when a warehouse manager stopped and asked if he could help me. He then replied that he wasn't a sales person and went to find someone to help me. BEWARE and stay clear away from this store. They will NOT stand behind the product they sell to you. Long story short. Purchased a fixture that would go 20 feet in the air. I hired a licensed electrician that rented scaffolding. After putting this scaffolding together and bringing the fixture 20 feet in the air, there were three pieces missing. Fixture could not be put up. I am reasonable and settled for three old pieces from the store display to add to my new fixture. I was stuck with paying a costly electrician's invoice for two days. This store manager Johnathan Rice offered to credit me $100. It is insulting that I settled for old parts, and they couldn't pay for the second day for the electrician. Terrible experience. I ordered two pendent lights and they they arrived the quality was not as expected for the price. I entered a return and was not told I would be hit with a 10% fee. I talked to customer service who told me they would help refund but didn't follow through. I was then told I would have to make a purchase larger than my first and they would then give me my money back. This review is specific to my experience with Helen Passanante. She is "HELPFUL HELEN" in my book. I had the unfortunate experience of a light fixture not work out in my space. Learned after installation that it was not the appropriate height for my kitchen. My inept electrician hung the item without discussing any concerns and cut the wires when he installed. John Rice (store manager) agreed to accept the return (minus 50%). This was very disappointing, however he introduced me to Helen who helped me walk away happy, with a better item for my space. She listened to my needs, was patient, and so pleasant to work with. She turned the whole disaster around. I truly feel I ended up with a better product. I lost money in the process but came out ahead with a more suitable product in the end. I would return for future lighting needs, but exclusively with Helen! I was disappointed in Home Depot and flabbergasted at the high end designers. Not being in need for new chandeliers since our previous home, I wasn't sure where to turn. Thank you Capitol Lighting for saving our house from the indignity of a not-quite-right light from one of the big box home improvement stores. (No offense to the big box stores, but I know exactly what those guys have in stock and while some of the lighting is nice, none of it is quite right for our particular house.) The old porch light fell victim today to a new front door installation. Hence the need to find a new mid-century modern light -- and quick -- because along with the installation crew is a stucco and brick repair crew that will be patching tomorrow. Due to the wider width on the fabulous new door -- and the narrower strip of brick remaining -- the fixture could only be 4-1/2" wide. At 5pm, what are the odds of being able to find the right thing before 9am the following morning? Well fortunately, it was NOT a problem! Capitol Lighting is a stocking dealer with an amazing showroom and very helpful staff. Lots and lots and lots of lighting eye candy! I know this shop name from the stores they have in New Jersey. I decided to try their Boca location as I recently moved to the area and found most of their fixtures are very feminine looking. I finally decided on an industrial looking hanging light (they have a bot of a selection of those) but when the salesperson tried to sell it to me she asked if I was a returning customer and when I said yes she offered me a slight discount. I then looked up the same model light on my phone and asked her to match it - she said yes and admitted to me that when peoplee say they are returning customers then she only offers them a slight discount but when they say they are new she offers a bigger discount. The worst, went there to buy three pendant lamps, they charged me 4 times the price what any other store would have. Inferior quantity pieces, after years the ceiling to lamp cords are still wavy, they did nothing to rectify this. Salesman was terrible, bad experience, will never go back. Great selection of fixtures, with no pressure! Walked in and asked where bathroom fixtures were and was directed, but not followed. Everything was clearly marked with prices, so no need to ask. When we made our selection we went back to a sales person, Judi, who was more than happy to help us complete our purchase. She was very helpful with information about bulbs for it and was friendly and efficient in completing the transaction. Somebody then brought it out to our car for us. Prices are more than you would pay at Lowe's or Home Depot, but you can see the difference in the quality of the fixtures. The selection is also much bigger, and more varied. I never thought I would get a light green glass, to match my new green glass sink. I had several choices and was able to find one the same curved shape as my new vanity. There was a choice of finishes as well, so I could match the faucet and towel bar. Bottom line, you pay more, but get what you pay for! read more

5* Customer service - and let me tell you why. My cleaner broke a glass lampshade on a light fixture we bought from capital lighting. I went into the Boca store on the weekend and spoke to the assistant manager Tony Faddish who orders the spare parts. He informed me that the vendor factory was closed at the weekends but he would call on Monday and order the part for me and would find out the cost. I got a call back from Capital Lighting informing that they had ordered the shade and they would deliver it to me at NO CHARGE!! I was prepared to pay which one would naturally assume, but Capital decided not to take advantage of the situation and put themselves out for one of their (NOW) loyal customers. How refreshing in today's money grabbing world that you find a large company with large values that they employ on a local level. They deserve to thrive with values like that. read more

Have you seen Pretty Woman? Remember the treatment Julia Roberts had when she walked into the dress shop? That's how I was treated at this Capital Lighting! I waited 20 minutes on 2/8/20 and couldn't get any help. THEN an older, very WELL-DRESSED couple walked in. Aaron, the salesman by the door was suddenly free!!! When the greeter told him I had been waiting a long time, to take me next, he sized up the customers that walked in the door, compared them to me, (I was dressed in sweat pants) and said "Oh, I think they are waiting for me". They did not have an appointment, nor did he know their name. The greeter let him get away with this! Talk about pick and choose your customers!!! They were NOT waiting for him. Aaron's behavior was appalling. Inexcusable. All customers should be treated the same. Guess he saw more potential commission $$. Don't judge a book by its cover, Aaron! Big Mistake! I was so upset, I asked to speak to the manager about this. The back office asked "why?" and then Helen gobbled down her lunch to come out and help me. Just purchased a home in Boca. Wanted to purchase 3 new vanity lights for our bathrooms. Went to capital lighting this morning. There were 3 sales people on the floor. There were literally 2 customers in the store. One salesperson was helping the other customer. My husband and I found what we needed. They were about 350 each. After being in the store about 14 minutes, we tried to get the attention of a sales person. The one actually working, ignored us completely and the other 2 were on their cell phones. I stood in front of one man, he turned to avoid me. Needless to say we left. I wrote down what we wanted, went on Amazon and found them for $50 less for each. Tried to shop local. Guess not there.
