From my brief appointment with her yesterday, I could tell that she's the kind of medical practitioner that makes you want to become a long time patient. A solid 5 star dental professional. Unfortunately, my experience with the front desk personnel left much to be desired. LaShandra gave me the feeling that she didn't want to be bothered with me. The tone in which she spoke to me on the phone before I ever made it into the office was curt, but then when I finally came in the office, I felt that her tone was even more demeaning. The whole time she spoke with me, she'd never make any eye contact. I'm hard of hearing and wear hearing aids and trying to hear when people have a mask on is very difficult and she seemed to not want to repeat anything and that she simply didn't have time. (Mind you, there's no one else in the waiting area, nor is the phone ringing during this time which I would've understood if she couldn't answer my questions at the moment due to other office obligations). Finally I asked her to give me a second to turn on my mic (I have a mic that connects directly to my hearing aids via Bluetooth to help me hear better. The last question (about insurance) I started to try and ask her before going into the room with the doctor, I was stopped abruptly by her saying that it was time to see the doctor so I guess that was her way of not answering the question. Growing up, my family didn't have a healthy dental routine of seeing dentists. As an adult, I'm dealing with the consequences of that and trying to create healthier dental habits moving forward. I was beyond excited to come to Capitol Family Dental since it's in my neighborhood and had so many phenomenal reviews. I had even convinced my husband to give them a shot potentially leaving his normal dentist and hygienist that he's been going to for 10+ years since Capitol Family Dentistry is in the neighborhood. But unfortunately, my experience speaking with LaShandra multiple times over the phone before I came in for my first appointment coupled with my in-person experience turned me off a bit. Moreover, when I'd ask questions, she'd make assumptions that she knew the reason behind my question and answered based on what she thought I needed to know instead of just answering my question which made the communication even more tense (not to mention, leaving me without the information I was trying to get). I mean, I'm in the dentist's office ON MY BIRTHDAY with a broken tooth. Definitely not how I want to start off the morning of my birthday but to be made to feel like you're not worth the time is just not a good experience. Not sure how to proceed but I may still be looking for a new dentist. I hate to give such a highly regarded dental practice 2 stars, but when the experience with front desk is such that it leaves you feeling like you don't want to come back and you're weighing to yourself whether or not to continue to subject yourself to this type of treatment, I think it warrants it. I couldn't do only 1 star because Dr. P was a gem. But what good are great doctors when the staff makes you feel like trash before you even get to meet them?

Update: After speaking with Dr. Jacques, who gave me a call. He is always kind and knowledgeable…read more He let me know that he referred me based on my insurance and to contact them. He did this in the manner it should have been done from the beginning. Unfortunately, he agreed I shouldn't come back because his front desk staff attitude is bad and afraid if I come back in person there may be some physical altercation, which is scary because why would it get physical if you hire professional staff? That was a super weird comment. .................................................................................................................................. DO NOT patronize this establishment. The receptionist Lazandria or a name very similar is very rude. She is always the lady that answers the phone with the DC accent. She has been rude since my first appointment. Additionally, when contacting them about a follow-up, the receptionist hung up in my face claiming the dental office on the other line was calling about me, when I told her there is no way this could be true, she hung up anyway. She knew she was wrong because she called back and said, "I'm sorry they weren't calling about you, it was another patient and I apologize for being so rude". The fact you have to call back and acknowledge you can't keep you attitude in check lets me know this dentist does not care about who he hires and how they treat his customers. She was also very nasty when corresponding with them about my referral to a specialist. She told me it was not their fault that they may not be in network when they refer out to specialists. This is after when I called and asked how they refer to specialists, and she said they refer to specialists based on my insurance. She realized there was a problem and tried to walk back on what she initially said. You ARE NOT SAFE with them. Anyone that can hire staff that will be so reckless with your care is not a good establishment. This woman hung up in my face and proceeded to yell at me on the phone when she started changing her story after saying they referred me based on my insurance. They take no responsibility. Anyone that cares about their money and wants a confident health care team that WORKS TOGETHER, this is not the place for you. If this comment is removed, I will repost. Today is 8-9-2022.

Look for dental care elsewhere…read more Dr. Dan Jones touts his years of experience, however the quality of the work that he and the office does is very poor and riddled with errors. After going to a dentist in Arlington, I finally switched to a D.C. dentist and I'm so glad I did…read more Here's why I highly recommend Stanton Park Dental. 1) Experience: From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by Chris at the front desk who made sure my insurance was up to date. There are local magazines in the waiting room. The wait wasn't long at all. Once inside the dentist room, India took photos of my teeth from all angles. She was very personable and professional. She explained the why behind all the photos. It was painless! Dr. Coley then came in to check my teeth and clean them. She also explained everything to me in a way I could understand. It was the right balance of talking and just sitting there as she cleaned my teeth. She is very smart and nice! 2) Space: It's a small dentist office, but one with great history. It's Dr. Coley's father-in-law's dentist office for the last four decades. He collects artifacts, which are displayed throughout. There's a dentist chair more than 100 years old, antique maps of D.C. and Philadelphia, a dentist puppet, and even a Civil War cannon as a door stop. Chris at the front desk said it's like "going to the dentist in a museum." It's so true and the historian in me loved it! 3) Area: It's on Capitol Hill very close to H Street NE and Stanton Park. Easy two-hour parking is accessible out front. If you need a quality dentist, book an appointment at Stanton Park Dental!

I was told that I needed a deep cleaning, which was performed in two separate sessions. Each session lasted approximately 25-30 minutes and was performed primarily by a dental hygienist. The practice billed my dental insurance approximately $931, while I was charged approximately $662 out of pocket, bringing the total billed amount to around $1,600. What concerns me most is the billing. When I contacted my insurance company, I was told that I have been charged more than I should have been and that I should receive a refund. However, when I brought this to the dental office, they disagreed and told me that the insurance company was misleading me. I have not been satisfied with the explanation or resolution. I want prospective patients to be aware of the cost and to ask for a detailed explanation of the charges, insurance payments, and their expected out-of-pocket responsibility before proceeding with treatment. To be fair, the office itself was clean and pleasant, the staff were generally courteous, and the environment was comfortable. My concern is specifically about the cost and billing of the deep-cleaning treatment. Based on my experience, I would encourage patients to carefully review their insurance explanation of benefits and the dental office's bill before paying a large out-of-pocket amount. Roya Karimi

What should have been a standard preventive cleaning turned into a painful and unnecessarily aggressive experience. During the procedure, there was significant pain and excessive bleeding, far beyond what is normal for a routine cleaning. Even more concerning, one of the fillings in my molar was pulled out during the cleaning, something that has never happened to me in any prior dental visit. At no point was there a clear explanation for the level of force being used, nor was my discomfort adequately addressed during the appointment. A routine dental cleaning should not result in pain, heavy bleeding, or damage to existing dental work. I have had many cleanings over the years, and this was by far the most uncomfortable and poorly handled experience. Based on what happened, I genuinely don't understand how this practice maintains such high ratings. Patients should not be expected to accept this level of care as normal.
